Given the current state of DC properties, really don't see fhe show lasting longer than 4 seasons.

Zookwok111

Honestly four seasons is fine. It'll be a end of a chapter in the boys life as they graduate highschool and go off to college (or maybe Jon will stay in town and work full-time at the general store if Helbing is feeling catty). But either way, it should be a nice "the adventure goes on" type of ending instead of a huge cliffhanger that never gets resolved.

[deleted]

and Uncle Morgan will move in. The spinoff will be called "Oh, Uncle Morgan" and we'll get comedic exaggerated aggravated expressions from Nat and John. And Lana will forget his creepy dangerous threatening actions towards her, and his turning her husband into a murder machine and start dating him.

Effective_Chance_653

I think 5 seasons is enough, by making 13 episodes for season 4 and 5, and after they could make an spin off with the fraternals going to college or something like that.

ZJ_Nguyen

Absolutely love the idea, I think they should spend time building "the league" on other shows after about 5 seasons of SandL and then let the boys have their own spin off while their father continues his role in a new shows with justice league. It would be a dream come true

LeChic1579

I hope to see 5-6 seasons of SNL there's a lot more to explore specially the family dynamics and Clois relationship. I hope the new Superman movie wont affect the shows running. Movie will just run for 2 hours but the series goes longer so I hope to see more years of the Kents.

DanbyWho12

***Superman Returns*** (2006) didn't interfere with ***Smallville*** (2001-2011) back in the day, so I'd like to think WB won't do S&L dirty - Superman is to much of a staple of US TV to throw a wrench into a critically acclaimed series just for their stupid policy about only having 1 version of a character either in film or tv at a time.

Beth4S

Things are so in flux, it's really hard to tell. I'm hoping for at least four so we can see the twins graduate high school. Of course, I'd love it if the show continued past that!

Thejerseygrl

I think I need 10. I will settle for no less. 🤪

Bill-Kaiser

This is no Smallville.

Thejerseygrl

You’re right, this is much better!

bettername2come

I said 3. With the DC properties dropping like like flies and a major recasting, I’d be surprised if we got more than this upcoming season. Then again, I could see them doing 4 so the boys can graduate.

No_Flower_1424

For as long as the ratings are good enough to warrant it since the new CW seems to be very focused on actual ratings now and not just letting the shows play out for as long as they can get Netflix money. When it comes to the Superman movie, they apparently don't even have a writer in place yet, let alone a director or even any cast. According to one of those industry sources, Cavill hasn't actually been given a long-term contract yet but they're working towards it. That means a script won't be written until 2023 at the earliest and the absolute earliest they could film anything would be late 2023. Add another year of post-production and we're looking at 2025 for a Superman movie and that's the absolute best-case scenario (just look at Blade which has a cast in place already but lost a director and needs a rewrite and it was pushed back to 2024!). That means Superman and Lois could even be going into season 6 by the time the movie is even released! So I would hope that they want to keep Superman content on air until they actually have a movie to release.

BookGirlBoston

I think the other thing, is that it feels impossible this was not already considered and planned for when S&L was in development. I think the show got the green light in 2018 and Justice League released in 2017. If I am Berlanti or Helbing, or Tulloch or Hoechlin or leadership at the CW, I think one of the very first questions I would ask is, "But what about another Superman movie?" Like there has always been chatter of a Superman movie the entire time S&L was in development until today, obviously. I have got to imagine this was already thought about. I don't think anyone would have taken the job if the answer as, "You get to play these roles until we decide to announce a new Superman movie. " In addition, I also suspect Nexstar would have considered that as well. S&L is primed to be one of their most profitable shows, again, they would probably have made provisions to make this work. Like, I am unsure Nexstar would have bought on if they were going to lose their best show. In addition, they did the entire Pattinson Batman, which I don't think had any plans to tie into the DCEU. The Flash was already in the Justice league concurrent to The Flash TV show. So, this has already been considered. So, it just feels unreasonable that anything is going to move S&L based on a new Superman movie.

usagizero

The whole merger has made me pessimistic, so i voted 3. I only will trust it to be renewed when i actually know they are filming the next season and not before. I'd like it to run five seasons, but, yeah.

Demetri124

The 4-5 range since the other CW shows are winding down

BookGirlBoston

I actually suspect at least six if the writers can pull together season 3 and fix some of the season 2 issues. Superhero shows with a unique angle are having a moment (She-Hulk, WandaVision, etc.) and I suspect the MCU keeps leaning in which means this show is essentially that but for DC. Nexstar needs flagship programming to drive traffic and S&L is exactly that show that appeals to a wide audience. S&L will likely continue to be a top performer, only second to Walker in 2023. Even as a more expensive show, it likely pays for itself. Also, Nexstar sort of won the lottery with having pretty much the biggest Superhero property ever on their channel. I doubt that let that go in the Superhero all the time mentality. HBOMAX needs family friendly Superhero content to sell against Marvel/ MCU and S&L is cost effective compared to the budgets on some of the MCU stuff. This show has performed extremely well on HBOmax from what I understand. Edit to say: it's worth noting this show performs extremely well outside North America. It is often a top performer on HBOMAX Latin America where it goes direct to streaming and runs opposite of Dr. Who in the UK. Riverdale, which was performing horrible on TV in the US was given another season, likely because of its success internationally.

Thejerseygrl

This is really great optimism and exactly what I needed to hear today!! I really hope you’re right, I would watch these characters forever if I could.

BookGirlBoston

I think there is a lot of fear mongering about the whole situation, honestly. When renewals came up, the CW was obviously acting on Nexstars new strategy which is to relay on solid, successful IP. Everything new premiering in the 2022-2023 season on the CW is based on successful IP (Supernatural, Walker, and DC/Batman). The CW is continuing to develop similar programming with Justice U potentially still in play, and as doubtful as it sort if feels, they have also been keeping David Ramsey on the bench which makes me think it's not complete dead. They are also apparently developing some other dramas that sound in line with the current line up. Superman is a massive property, and the big ones, The Flash, Supergirl, Arrow all went a lot of seasons and all got to natural conclusions. Legends and Batwoman, that had a cult following but both struggled to find an audience and Legends still ran 7 seasons. The Flash was allowed to wrap up even though no one would have been surprised if the last season had been the final season. DC is throwing money at Superman at every juncture, even more monthly Superman books, the new Animated series due out next year, the Supersons movie, whatever is going on with Cavill and that mess. They aren't going to cancel a massive peice of their Superman strategy. Like, there is nothing to suggest that S&L is on the brink of cancellation and everything to suggest this is a horse the network has placed a lot of money on.

Thejerseygrl

In addition, Superman is an even bigger property than all the rest. I agree with you, I really think it would take a lot to cancel this show. Even if it manages to pull another mediocre season like season 2, the show still had pretty decent ratings they would likely still hold onto it, if I had to guess.

BookGirlBoston

Not to be mean to Batwoman (or all the other shows the CW cancelled), but it is easy to say something like Batwoman was canceled after 3 seasons so if course S&L is at risk, but it misses a lot of peices to the conversation. 1. Batwoman struggled from the beginning, ultimately loosing their lead and having to do a soft reboot. While Batwoman had a better final season, the damage had been done 2. Batwoman is both a derivative property (from Batman) and just doesn't have the built-in in recognition like S&L 3. S&L appeals to a wide demographic in a way something like Batwoman may not have All of this means comparing the 2022 cancellation is apples and oranges, when both the Flash and Walker were better comparisons.

Thejerseygrl

And I still don’t think the flash is quite the same as Superman and Lois. Maybe it’s my bias talking— but Superman is like another category entirely compared to the flash, plus it has the family stuff on top of it. I really think we’ll be ok!

BookGirlBoston

I think you are right about this. The Flash is not as much a mega property as S&L.

[deleted]

I'm hoping many seasons, but if season 3 isn't better than season 2 it can just end at any time.

[deleted]

I won't watch s3 until It's over. I guess 4 because helbing will keep self inserting and not writing Jon and his family thoughtfully

Zookwok111

If season 3 is as bad as season 2, I won't exactly be crying if it doesn't get renewed.

[deleted]

Same

[deleted]

I think WB Discovery will let Superman & Lois go to at least Season 4, given that Cavill has two more seasons of The Witcher to film before he’ll have time to do anything Superman related.

[deleted]

Depends. If they make season 3 like season 2 I think that'll be their last season OR most people won't bother tuning in for season 4 making it the last season. If season 3 is more like season 1 they might get a bit more extra seasons

Specific_Ad_5226

Dc doesn’t know how to quit tho I say 5 but more than likely it might be 8😂😂

Quelly0

However many years the boys are in high school.

_idiotfriend_

5 seems about average these days

Barry_McKackiner

I hope at least 5.

minterbartolo

with the new CW overlords and their shift in programming not sure how much longer it will last. will the new HBO overlords from Discovery want to move it to HBOMax given they seem to be cutting other DC content on the streamer?

Zookwok111

I think instead of a full renewal, we'll get a 10-12 episode final fourth season to wrap things up.

Redditman4322

With cavil coming back I think it’s either 1 or 2 tbh

The-Guy-In-Grey

Anything more than five would just be one big F you to the shows (the arrowverse) that made Superman and Lois possible.

Kobbbok

12 SEASONS AND A....buRp...MOVIE, MORTY! YOU AND ME FOR 12 SEASONS AND A MOVIE!

wilderness_child

I said three - although I would like more - because I have doubts as to how long Tyler would want to continue in the role. He has said he likes new challenges and he may wish to explore other opportunities while he is still young.

BookGirlBoston

I mean, don't you think that is something Tyler considered before he signed on to a TV show that was likely going to fo for years? I don't think a premature end is going to be because Tyler wants out after only 3 seasons.

Ok_Caterpillar4008

Actually, that’s why he left Teen Wolf and I think he got that sort of out of his system for the couple of years in between TW and S&L. He’s talked about how by the time he got to signing on for S&L, he was at a stage in his life where he wanted something more permanent. I expect that Tyler and Bitsie signed 5 or 6 season contracts, as that’s pretty standard, so as long as S&L gets renewed for more seasons, it’ll keep going until Tyler and Bitsie have to negotiate whole new contracts.

Quelly0

Would one more year make a big difference to that? 3 seasons sounds like bailing before his character arc completes, which I assume is: absent father -> proud father of two excellent young men (= aged 18 = 4 seasons).

Next-Jackfruit9328

Didn't they already said 3rd season is gonna be the last one?

BookGirlBoston

They have not, that has never ever been communicated to anyone.

ChrisNYC70

6 seasons and a movie

blg1987

I voted 5 but it really does depend on the writing quality this season. If it carries on like season 2 I'd be happy if they left it at 3 seasons, because they would clearly not have a handle on it and I don't want to see them trying and failing. It's bloody painful. But if this season's writing quality improves, I think there is so much they can do from this standpoint of an older Superman/Lois and their kids. Powerful emotional relatable human stories. For me the strength of it lies in reflection. Looking back at their lives and seeing things in new ways, processing mistakes, regrets, grief, trauma - letting that reflection improve their relationships, the way they feel about themselves etc. I think flashbacks are a key part of that, and it's not just about me wanting to see the traditional Lois and Clark at the planet going up against Lex set up - of course I do want that 😅 - but it's more about connecting what's going on in the present with things that happened in the past because it makes sense thematically. I dunno... maybe it's just my therapy training 😆 but I want to see what the characters are thinking more, what memories are running through their minds when things happen. They managed that quite well in Season 1 and it was great. Its why I fell for the show. But in Season 2 they showed very little self awareness or reflection for any of the characters, despite huge circumstances that really demanded that I.e. Lois being abandoned for a month, Jon taking drugs, Clark losing his powers. If they can turn it around and write these characters as though they are growing & learning, then there's so many great stories they can tell. I really hope they do 😊

Dedalus121

Given the current state of affairs - remember the canceled a nearly finished multi million dollar Batgirl movie because it's test screening went bad - I'd be surprised if they didn't cancel the show halfway through the ongoing season, if it doesn't perform well. And let's be honest with the quality of writing we had in season 2? The show's first hiatus in 2023 might just become a permanent one.
