If gamestop can keep that fine balance of selling the same number of shares the shorts are shorting then they can extract money indefinitely from the shorts. I think market makers bought those shares to cover calls, and whoever the call holder is, intends to exercise those calls in the money. Probably some others bought them as well, but still. I believe the options chain has a lot to do with this strategically, but Idk.
