I am with this. A full adult, apex predator, polar bear does not get fooled, or spooked. Those would have probably been the last photos they ever took if it was an adult, especially a hungry one
They usually don't see humans as a prey when they're not hungry. If they are and they do, you will have a much harder time to see them coming.
Most encounters between humans and pb's are because they're curious and want to check you out, maybe have a 'small' bite. Luckily they are usually not too hard to scare off when they are just curious. They depend on hunting to survive so will avoid getting injured.
The only reason any of you know this is because of people like this man. Probably 0 of you would have ever seen one or heard of the way they might fucking eat you.
Polar bears are one of the few predators that will actually hunt, kill, and eat humans… we’re only at the top of the food chain because of technology… and that camera isn’t gonna do much
It's [nonsense](https://9meters.com/entertainment/animals/how-dangerous-are-polar-bears) though, and people on reddit keep repeating it because they read it on reddit. They **do not** see humans as prey, unless they're extremely hungry. They mainly hunt seal in the sea water. They're marine hunters.
They will hunt you if they feel threatened or are starving. Other than that, they get scared easily because as apex predators, they can't afford to waste energy on useless conflicts. Most of the time loud noise will scare them off.
I wouldn't ever take my chances to meet one unarmed, but their aggressiveness is often highly exaggerated. There are only 20 documented human deaths.
source: have been in polar bear territory several times.
right. I thought this was widely known that bears don’t see humans as prey. they don’t know what we are. Not they should be treated lightly but bears are not hunting humans.
Sure but to be clear, you did just confirm my statement is true. And playing with or chasing a polar bear club… you’re telling me mama isn’t gonna get defensive?
True and the Eskimo 30,000 years ago understood this - and killed polar bears. Sometimes the bear won but most times it was the human being.
We are frail mammals with thin skins but for some reason we can escape and kill large predators.
Ants and humans are roughly equal in terms of biomass, and in terms of population there's no contest: the 20 quadrillion (20x10\^15 if quadrillion means different things in different places) of them means we're outnumbered by a couple of million to one
I just meant that depending on how we measure success, at the very least they're in a tie with us for which species is winning - even without fire or thumbs
I was just joking. And, you‘ve probably noticed.
To measure success itself is a pretty human thing to do, isn‘t it?
However, how did we got here in the first place?
That's a very big and hard-to-answer question! My opinion? Either the building blocks for self-organizing molecules were all in place and inevitable, or they rode here on a rock from somewhere else.
That probably mostly comes from desperation. Desperate times call for desperate measures and all. And sometimes you stumble across a new solution to your problem
> Polar bears are one of the few predators that will actually hunt, kill, and eat humans
True. Polar bears and tigers are the only predators which will track down specific people whom they believe have harmed them. [There is an excellent book, The Tiger, about an Amur tiger who hunted and found a man.](https://www.npr.org/2010/09/14/129551459/the-true-story-of-a-man-eating-tigers-vengeance) This took place in a national park above Vladivostok in 1997.
That is not a cub. That is a man in a white camo uniform. You can tell by the extended time he walks on two legs. Although bears can stand on their hind legs, they rarely walk on them and never for this long.
Lived in a Northern Saskatchewan community for a little bit.. a polar bear tried to break into a house on the edge of the community.. right at the start of spring.
Probably a 2 year old cub that just left its mother, they are very curious.
It is possible to scare adult bears if you're with multiple people and/or have the right equipment (eg flash bang flares). If they're not used to being scared off that is.
It's actually the opposite. Juvenile bears are a lot more dangerous because they're curious and inexperienced. Adult polar bears stay away from humans unless they have cubs or are starving.
I think with all footage like this we see, there is at least one person standing nearby with a large bore rifle or shotgun. Its just common sense. Everyone knows how dangerous polar bears are, and most dont want to be torn apart and eaten.
Sure, clearly a rifle or shotgun in the appropriate caliber and with proper load is more powerful and accurate. However fisherman and people working with their hands occupied in bear country like handguns because they can more easily wear them in an accessible holster without it interfering with their work as much as a slung long gun would. People hiking or backing in bear country may favor handguns for the weight savings.
In either of those instances, a 10mm Glock model 20 is a relatively popular alternative to large caliber revolvers for defense against Grizzlies/brown bear. https://www.petersenshunting.com/editorial/is-10mm-enough-gun-for-bear-defense/368366#replay
https://www.outdoorlife.com/survival/10mm-glock-grizzly-bear-charge/
Well, 16 well placed 10mm rounds from a Glock 20 would most likely save you. Or even one ***really*** well placed shot.
Having said that though, I agree in the sense that I would prefer something much more powerful.
Yeah, see, I'm not gonna count on getting 16 well placed shots. Especially when some states only have 10 round limits.
Now, 2-3 well placed shots from a .357...
I know a group of 4 who shot a charging mama grizzly twice with a shotgun. After being shot it mauled one almost to death, chased another guy off a cliff, he broke both legs but very luckily survived. And the two others managed to get back into their truck that the bear came back to and almost managed to tip over trying to get them. When they were all incapacitated it left with its cubs...was later tranquilized and relocated, she had fully recovered from the two direct shots to the chest. People have no idea.
There's a film where the camera guy is in a purpose built shelter, like a perspex box, so he can film polar bears up close.
A female polar bear spots him, approaches the box and spends almost an HOUR trying to open the packet, so to speak.
I can't imagine how that felt.
Scrolled too far to read this. Without a doubt the dude had bear spray ready behind the camera, while not fool proof - the bear does have eyes like the rest of us.
That’s no Balls of Steel. That’s def Bear Spray when the bear retreats both times, yet the guy thinks he is cool by running up on the bear.
They are TOURONS.
Tourist + Moron = Touron
Some of these comments are wild lol, calling this guy stupid like he isn't some trained wildlife photographer lmfao I'm pretty sure the guy knew what he was doing
But I guess you know better, armchair redditor!
I have a feeling that polar bears and crocodiles are up on the “will actively hunt humans” list! Whereas most other predators will not pursue over several days like these do
Looks like a cub. Momma bear would not be as easily amused. FYI, polar bears are highly aggressive, and will eat you alive.
I am with this. A full adult, apex predator, polar bear does not get fooled, or spooked. Those would have probably been the last photos they ever took if it was an adult, especially a hungry one
Even if they're not hungry at the moment. Where they live, food is real hard to come by and survival means never wasting an opportunity.
They usually don't see humans as a prey when they're not hungry. If they are and they do, you will have a much harder time to see them coming. Yeah he would've ended up on different sub

I mean there was [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/nextfuckinglevel/s/FcM576Gi6k).

True and the Eskimo 30,000 years ago understood this - and killed polar bears. Sometimes the bear won but most times it was the human being. We are frail mammals with thin skins but for some reason we can escape and kill large predators.
Living and working in groups, the ability to plan, being able to make and use tools, and also our endurance all played big parts in that
You speaking of ants 🐜?
Ants and humans are roughly equal in terms of biomass, and in terms of population there's no contest: the 20 quadrillion (20x10\^15 if quadrillion means different things in different places) of them means we're outnumbered by a couple of million to one
Hopefully, they never manage to tame fire.
I just meant that depending on how we measure success, at the very least they're in a tie with us for which species is winning - even without fire or thumbs

> the 20 quadrillion ... of them Counting them = job security.
> You speaking of ants 🐜? And uncles.
You've summed it up nicely. I would add highly aggressive mindest and a tendency to try bold, stupid things.
That probably mostly comes from desperation. Desperate times call for desperate measures and all. And sometimes you stumble across a new solution to your problem

Most large predators will hunt, kill and eat humans, polar bears aren't unique in that regard.
“If it's brown, lay down. If it's black, fight back. If it's white, goodnight”
As my friend's weird uncle from Alaska used to say- "By day, you hunt the Kodiak. By night, Kodiak hunts you."
Yep. They will hunt you for days if they set eyes on you.
jesus christ dude we see this fucking comment under every bear video. can we have something that actually takes a braincell to come up with
would you like to hear a totally original joke about poop with bells in it smelling like pepper spray instead?
what type of question is that ? ofcourse i would
For real...
That is not a cub. That is a man in a white camo uniform. You can tell by the extended time he walks on two legs. Although bears can stand on their hind legs, they rarely walk on them and never for this long.
Lmao
Yeah either way playing the "Are you food or not?" game with an apex predator is dangerous and foolish business.
Lived in a Northern Saskatchewan community for a little bit.. a polar bear tried to break into a house on the edge of the community.. right at the start of spring.
And they’re probably one of the most desperate predators on the planet with their diminishing habitat.
Do you have polar bear photos?
But still, the camera is acting like he is doing a casual photoshoot in his own neighborhood. Treating the Polar bear like a stray pet.
Gooey warm yummy things are very few and far between on the tundra.
Good planning on the cameraman's part to mount his gear onto a 75mm AT gun turret.
And you can die by eating their liver, cause it's extremely rich in vitamin A
Looks small, a juvenile. Adult polar bears are not afraid of humans.

Bet you I could scare a polar bear. Guess not everyone is just built different like me tho
Go give it a try, sport
😤💪🏻
the downvotes 💀

But unnecessary situation putting both Bear and himself at risk...for photography? Is it worth killing or getting killed?
I remember bush pilots in Alaska packing glocks in case of bears
[удалено]
A Glock isn’t stopping any Grizzly. Probably just piss it off.

We always carried a 44 magnum hunting in grizzled country. My dad called it his “bear thumper”.
44 magnum please.
A glock isn't going to save you. It's just going to piss the bear off.
It’s not for the bear (/dark joke)
Well, 16 well placed 10mm rounds from a Glock 20 would most likely save you. Or even one ***really*** well placed shot. Having said that though, I agree in the sense that I would prefer something much more powerful.

My first thought was with a cannon, actually
"Most dont want to be eaten" have you BEEN to r/vore
Must be the white suit. Bear thought he was another polar bear /s
There's a film where the camera guy is in a purpose built shelter, like a perspex box, so he can film polar bears up close. A female polar bear spots him, approaches the box and spends almost an HOUR trying to open the packet, so to speak. I can't imagine how that felt.
He keeps it up he wont have those or most of his body
I wanna see the pics. Gotta be an amazing shot
Sounds like he’s using a whistle
Sounds like he is spraying bear spray to me
Scrolled too far to read this. Without a doubt the dude had bear spray ready behind the camera, while not fool proof - the bear does have eyes like the rest of us.

I was thinking he has an ultra sonic sounder. Either way, it definitely wasn't hungry enough to ignore it and feast on this dude
I imagine behind the camera lies a phalanx of riflemen pointing their weapons at the bear...
Proof confidence helps in many situations
Some of these comments are wild lol, calling this guy stupid like he isn't some trained wildlife photographer lmfao I'm pretty sure the guy knew what he was doing But I guess you know better, armchair redditor!
Where’s the coke a cola
I don't think it was Christmas time
There's a fine line between having balls of steel and being a moron.
Polar bears are known to view humans as food so charging at one puts them squarely in the second category.
Backed away as soon as he smelled the shit the guy took in his pants.
This isn’t bravery. It’s outright stupidity.
The guy is lucky this wasn’t an adult
It’s not like he can run away or climb on a tree lol
Bear knew we had the high ground and respected the tactical advantage
This isn't balls of steel, this is pure stupidity
Nothing bad ever happens to the cameraman.🤣🤣🤣
Black fight back, Brown lay down, White good night.
Dude was stupid to turn away from it, and then run at it. They will kill you for fun
You can either test out your balls of steel or you can just serve up your ball. Your choice.
bear prefers is prey naked clothes taste 👅 horrible
They skipped the part when the bear crushed his skull in the bear's mouth.
Sure, cut the video off just as the guy runs towards the bear. No one could possibly be interested in seeing what transpired next.
Does anyone have the shots they got?
If you watch it with sound, he’s spraying something otherwise “when it’s white, say good night”
This is not safe. Polar bears are the most dangerous of the bears
Polar Man
I have a feeling that polar bears and crocodiles are up on the “will actively hunt humans” list! Whereas most other predators will not pursue over several days like these do
Yep your playing with disaster right there …. Polar bears eat EVERYTHING they find … and hunt humans as prey
He’s suicidal.
How do I get this job or something like this
That's the reason that invented telephoto lenses bro
After all his familie has the pictures.......
is stupid*
That’s one way to put it
Balls of stupidity more like it.
I guess its good he's training this young bear to be afraid of humans.
Fren shaped
Only his steel balls will be left behind one day.
He's just looking for an ice cold coca cola
"Balls of seal, you say?"
Gotta get the shot
He's thinking "If I'm bout to get eaten, might as well shoot a few pics"
Younger bear, in curiosity mode.
If not fren then why made of fluffy and adorable
Not paid enough for this
hello fellow polar bears!
Time to say goodnight!! You know the rules!
![gif](giphy|7JsEgDMrziuJd9fFY1)
Yea, balls of steel and a very large caliber weapon handy.
I recall seeing another video of a guy in a box when an polar bear a It was for BBC earth.
This is just plain stupid! Polar bears are aggressive and massive. That guy is lucky that he is still alive.
This one is obviously a cub.
Lucky it wasn't hungry and just curious.
Cameraman never dies!
He ended up dead
So cute and furry 🤗
