A couple of things:
1. If you watch the edit in question (between 4:00-4:10) it’s pretty obvious from the B-roll footage they chose that whoever initially edited the video and read the script that had been printed out for them, was under the impression that both Michael Jackson AND Alien Ant Farm were separately listed as being from Riverside.
2. The correction is still ridiculous and makes Swoop and her team look so unprofessional and sloppy because while Alien Ant Farm did famously cover “Smooth Criminal” they were never a “Michael Jackson Cover band.” A “cover band” is an entirely different thing than a band who has a cover of a specific song. Basic shit like this that any high school senior intern would know to fix before publishing is how you can easily spot when a YouTuber relies on AI for their info.
I fucking love this subreddit so much. The Reddit Bureau of Investigation does such good work here. And you’re a legit SAC in the RBI.
How could Swoop be so crass, so tragically wrong? In her sponsored content stage set are several books. One of them is the artist Basquiat who at 27 died of a heroin overdose and the other a biography of Nelson Mandel who spent almost 30 years of his life locked up in prison for his stance against apartheid. Both dead and now being used as some kind of kitsch decor for an advertising segment in Swoop's suspool.
I'm only halfway through but I appreciate that she's less light-hearted with this one. She isn't doing bad jokes or rants. Even though I'm sure people who love Petty University would miss it, I actually would like it if she made more toned down videos like this.
This woman’s story has been done numerous times by other creators. Wendigoon did a video on it (I know he’s controversial for many but it’s a solid vid and he’s DEF not using AI) like a year ago, Buzzfeed Unsolved did it in 2016, and other creators like Nick Crowley, blameitonjorge, and Nexpo cover this sort of content fairly often. This doesn’t even fit her “brand” and she’s doing it worse than other creators who did it YEARS before.
