Now ya had me wondering if it was a part of my general STD screening when I got tested last year.
It was, I'm glad I checked though. Lol, it did remind me of the minor scare when I saw a herpes result came back positive... until I realized it was oral, cold sores. 2/3rds of the world population has it, which is kind of wild to think about
There has been an outbreak since I started as a nurse back in 2015. I was giving bicillin shots in both buttcheeks to gay guys and grannies alike. Everybody is bonin’.
I think it’s hilarious that the Pierce County Health Deportment is doing a Stranger Things theme. Also- is syphilis rampant in this area or something? I’ve never seen a health campaign for it before
I think it's hilarious because not too long ago, the big billboard in Fife was advertising the Stranger Things experience in Seattle or whatever. Now it's this which looks the exact same.
Where do you see that?!?
_<>_
Ohhhh, is that what it says?
All I could get at 45mph was "turn your life upside down" and I went from a chaste workaholic to a Tinder addict. You thought kidney stones were spicy? Now comes the real burn 🔥
That's not how visual design is supposed to work.
And yes, multiple eyes looked upon this on their laptop and said "that's neat, send it." We blame them.
Over 45 is considered outside of childbearing years. Congenital syphilis is having a horrible impact on Pierce County, it does terrible things to babies. That said, I agree that age limits should not be mentioned.
People don’t though, it’s such a problem. As a single girl actively dating when a man proposes we take it further I’m able to pull out test results and expect the same before I’m comfortable taking it to another level. I’ve legit been made fun of for that. 🤦♀️ it’s unreal.
I looked at the citations on their syphillis page (county, state, CDC, etc) & couldn’t find anything indicating lower risk. IIRC the numbers were *higher* in the 45 age group than the one below it! It seems odd to give people a false sense of safety.
the theory is that older people transmit it at a higher rate because no pregnancy and when you get old enough, you have a lot of spare time on your hands
Not sure if they felt it was appropriate but...

however, it's possible the messaging is more concerned about this: [https://www.statesmanjournal.com/story/news/health/2023/11/27/sexually-transmitted-infections-syphilis-gonorrhea-increasing-oregon/71491761007/](https://www.statesmanjournal.com/story/news/health/2023/11/27/sexually-transmitted-infections-syphilis-gonorrhea-increasing-oregon/71491761007/)
that's why I posted the article about nursing homes. I'm guessing, as usual, the city/state is more concerned about more recent trends than what has been a very long term trend (stds in nursing homes).
45 year olds do not generally live in nursing homes!
(Most long-term care residents are 65+, average age is around 80, and the vast majority of seniors don’t live in long-term care.)
They are less likely to use condoms due to not worrying about pregnancy. As someone who performs syphilis testing, I was shocked at the age population of the positives when I first started.
That add came on while I was watching the Peacock app and I had to laugh. A friend in her hoe era just told me she got it though, so it must be going around pretty good right now.
When I saw this billboard driving home last week I burst out laughing. Its just, so goofy, the Stranger Things font just killed the seriousness for me.
According to the CDC syphilis can cause death but typically only after 10-30 years (and it's rare) and 45 is close enough to death that the CDC is no longer concerned with them living longer.

My primary care physician recently told me Pierce county has been going through a syphilis outbreak
I perform syphilis testing, and I can confirm.

Someone should put up some kind of warning, or a sign.... :D
😂🤣😂 yes... they should 😅
I think it’s hilarious that the Pierce County Health Deportment is doing a Stranger Things theme. Also- is syphilis rampant in this area or something? I’ve never seen a health campaign for it before
OMG, yes! All over the country!
yup, my SO works in a clinic pharmacy and they are seeing crazy high rates.
I think it's hilarious because not too long ago, the big billboard in Fife was advertising the Stranger Things experience in Seattle or whatever. Now it's this which looks the exact same.
Someone pitched that in a meeting with a straight face.
I hope they keep this theme with future public health campaigns. They could even invent a new monster- The Herpegorgon
The new season of Stranger Things looks FIRE! (I mean, *somethings* burning, right...)
Saw this and thought I was in Silverlake in 2014.
It's too hard to read Syphilis. Not the greatest designed ad.
Still effective though, especially if it goes viral (padumdum) on the internet
I hepC what you did there
Really didn't need the emphasis on the visual AIDS there. /s
Agreed. How this was approved eludes me.
Where do you see that?!? _<>_

I had to explain to my mom what the sign was about because she thought it just had the prettiest colors.
this feels like the billboard in the simpsons were sonic is doing a psa advocating abstinence before marriage.
Pfew... That was a close one. Good thing I am 46!
I think that is the funniest shit and it should be all over the states and maybe even come up with a few other ones for like chlamydia and the herps
Over 45 is considered outside of childbearing years. Congenital syphilis is having a horrible impact on Pierce County, it does terrible things to babies. That said, I agree that age limits should not be mentioned.
I don't hate it, everyone having even somewhat regular sex should get tested regularly
People don’t though, it’s such a problem. As a single girl actively dating when a man proposes we take it further I’m able to pull out test results and expect the same before I’m comfortable taking it to another level. I’ve legit been made fun of for that. 🤦♀️ it’s unreal.
Shitty graphic design. Logical message.

I gave 2 bicillin butt shots to a 60 year old, so nah.
I'm guessing that they are lower risk, probably less promiscuous and more likely to use condoms
I looked at the citations on their syphillis page (county, state, CDC, etc) & couldn’t find anything indicating lower risk. IIRC the numbers were *higher* in the 45 age group than the one below it! It seems odd to give people a false sense of safety.

So why cut off the messaging about testing at age 45? I’m in this age range & not actually doing risky activities currently but *I could be* lol

Nothing in there says risk drops off at 45, except I’d assume risk for spreading it through pregnancy decreases.

Being over 45 makes you less likely to be pregnant. Congenital syphilis is bad. You’re right though, it sends a confusing message.
Dontcha know? Sex ends at 45.
It makes it harder to attend sexy parties...
Trying to read that graphic and drive just b stackin on the public safety hazards
That is so hard to read lmao
I saw two of these back to back tonight! My boyfriend and I thought it was funny!
That add came on while I was watching the Peacock app and I had to laugh. A friend in her hoe era just told me she got it though, so it must be going around pretty good right now.
Wow, this syphilis thing looks so sexy! I want syphilis! Where can I find it!?
Tinder
If your junk looks like a demogorgon’s face, go see a doctor 👍
Seems reasonable
This is hilarious 🤣
When I saw this billboard driving home last week I burst out laughing. Its just, so goofy, the Stranger Things font just killed the seriousness for me.
I need to see this one in person. Anybody know the location?
Sweet! Not as good as the old sailor ones but a start!
What if only one of us is over 45?
That one should be fine, but the other ones should probably get tested more often than never...

Ouch
Money well spent lol
