STRV 104C I think, it was apparently gifted back to the UK as they left service and was one of the first sold under that contract having gone through various upgrades over the years.
I like to think if this thing got produced it’d have been used as mobile coastal artillery.
A destroyer is about the smallest thing that could take a couple of hits!
Despite clearly being a tank obliterator, they somehow decided to build this on a tank platform and failed to see the irony when it obliterated itself.
If you're interested in armour then I'd say definitely take a look, it's a really well set up museum with a lot to see and a lot of well put together information to go with it.
There are so many tanks in the museum. It's insane. Panther, Jagdtiger, Tiger 131, Tiger 2...
Edit: plus Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door are just down the road from there, and they're pretty nice.
Restored by Mr Hewes and his crew (you can watch the restoration on [YouTube](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLDeJzH6o8wvORLXQBxkKCYR7lb3yzoFIn&si=YAaCK4gzEM3P9RS5)).
I'd assume it either moves forwards or knackers the brakes, maybe both! Apparently it couldn't fire with the turret traversed too far left or right in case it rolled over when firing.
If gta physics applies to our reality, the tank will eventually soar gracefully through the mean streets, so long as you maintain a rapid rate of fire.
That’s what the SU-100Y was. A prototype assault gun (1 built) based on a prototype heavy tank (2 built) that was equipped with the 130 mm/50 B13 Pattern 1936 naval gun that the Soviets used on all their naval destroyers at the time.
I don't think so. As far as I know there was an upgrade to other platforms that more or less rendered this unnecessary, and so after testing the project was dropped.
The ✨Shitbarn✨
Took the words out of my mouth
Yeetus deletetus
Sounds like a spell from Harry Potter
Maybe you're thinking of feetus deletus?
Christ on a f*ckin stick, really? In front of my only good Homebrew Boomstick?
Soldier, that direction offends me! Copy sir, removing that direction!

Piece of art on tracks. Everything based on Centurion is gorgeous
Big fan of them! I have a photo of the Swedish export version from the same event and it looks great!
What version? There are a bunch of different ones that served in Sweden.

104 is best looking foreign variant of centi. That ERA just fits well
Blazer ERA was it?
Not a tank destroyer but a tank obliterator
Anything obliterator.

Considering the 20-ish Kg of Boom per 75Kg shot? I would hope so!

Tank fest! Was there in Bovington this weekend. Was a good show.
It certainly was, great to see so much armour out and about!
I might go there in a week or so during a trip to Europe, do you think it’s worth the visit even if they aren’t doing the live tank demonstrations?

+1 to Lulworth and Durdle Door, especially on a nice day you could easily be somewhere far closer to the equator.
I mean if your willing to brave the politics you could try to visit Kubinka tank museum? Its in Russia though so, fair warning and all
I was there Friday ! Was great
Big potato gun

It's an incredible body of work to restore something like this, well worth a look!
> The plow at the rear was required when firing due to the 87 tonnes of recoil force. What happens if you swivel the turret around and fire backwards
I'd assume it either moves forwards or knackers the brakes, maybe both! Apparently it couldn't fire with the turret traversed too far left or right in case it rolled over when firing.
You get 45 degrees of gun rotation only or you get recoil and balance issues.
If gta physics applies to our reality, the tank will eventually soar gracefully through the mean streets, so long as you maintain a rapid rate of fire.
Fv4005 says nuke them from orbit, it's the only way to be sure. Still living in hopes the 183mm might end up in the challenger III MLU....
Spud is iconic and a great piece of history. You are the one who is ridiculous. 🤬 🤣
I suppose it does have a pretty good name!
I mean essentially a naval gun on a tank no?
calibre wise pretty much, but iirc it was an entirely new cannon, designed to take out tanks
Specifically designed Gun and HESH round to combat the IS-3 at great distances iirc

183mm purpose built anti-tank gun and shell. Bug Mamba Jamba
I can't upload it in a comment but I have a selfie Infront of that beast from pre restoration! It used to sit at the exit of the bovington tank museum
That’s a BFG
183mm
Makes the KV-2 look sleek.
Best
Ridiculously powerful
Big boom stick
MORE DAKKA
Is there a hot tub in the turret? Now that would be worth cruising down the Vegas strip in.
Like one of those german shepherd / corgi hybrids where it's a normal sized german shepherd head on a tiny corgi body.
I’m *so* jealous you got that on video, I want to go to tankfest so bad
Think they might be taking bookings for next year already, would definitely recommend it!
This is what happens when you leave a Centurion and a KV-2 alone for a night.
Was this the one restored by mr.hews?
Mr. Hewes!
Ahh yes, the doom barn
Anyone know what the vertical ribs on the turret bustle are for?
Structural integrity for the large turret as it's only made of thin steel plate.
A hand grenade would kill the turret crew. Its damn near tin foil
Besh launcher
🅱️eSh launcher
The engine sound😍
the deathstar
has this ever seen combat use? just curious
I don't think so. As far as I know there was an upgrade to other platforms that more or less rendered this unnecessary, and so after testing the project was dropped.
No, only 2 or 3 FV4005s were ever made, all prototypes
Tbf I think it was just a test platform for the 183mm gun, not something they really wanted to use in battle
That’s the one that requires a lookout away from the vehicle because the amount of smoke it makes when firing obscures the commander.
How big of a gun should we put on this thing? Don't we have a spare naval cannon laying around? You can't be serious.
It isn't a naval gun
I was just making a joke
