Either bring the piston down or let it snap. There's multiple wires for a reason.

hapizza

You what 😳

Drakenguard95

if the piston was back down it should have been safe to do so. as long as they weren't under tension. if it was under tension that's an easy way to lose an eye jfc.

bhsn1pes

You could die if it was still under tension. I'm not even joking. Depending how much tension that wire is under, you could basically have it snap and slice your neck.

Kalvorax

> an easy way to lose an eye jfc. or a limb or a finger or any part of the body really....those things under tension....snap whew......i always leave as much space as i physically could when i was dumping a bail. Id rather a snapped wire flick into the bailer than anyone else.

bhsn1pes

Yeah I stand next to the control panel when ejecting and make sure no one is close by in case of snap.

Konboy1023live

That is a very brave solution but hey if it works it works

amadeus8711

skill issue

Square-Scarcity-7181

And this why you use 5 wires per bail. I only see 3 and the extra added to keep the bail from exploding.

117Matt117

Everyone at my store uses 8-10, when I made them I always used 5.

Clown_Sparkles

We had a fairly new team member who only used 2. Naturally the bale fell apart when he was trying to drag it away.

Marleykkjr

I had this happen when my hr decided to make a bale… first he put it on the wrong pallet (a blue Pepsi pallet) and then 2 out of 4 wires popped Then it got stuck in the air because the two wires that was left on there was stuck in the holes … man that was a night.

ShoeGod420

Are the blue pallets wrong? I thought the blue and red were heavy duty pallets? I always try to use either a blue or red pallet.

aIandracula

They’re talking about the plastic blue vendor pallets Pepsi uses, not the heavy-duty wooden ones.

bhsn1pes

Technically supposed to used regular wooden ones and save the CHEP(Blue) or PECO(Red) for heavy duty shit when sending stuff back to the DC. At least what I was told. But if I can't find another pallet I'll use a CHEP or PECO.

ShoeGod420

I've had 3 regular pallets get crushed from the bale dropping on them, lukily I've figured out a trick to raise the bale and pull the crushed pallet out. I NEVER use a regular pallet if I don't have to. I'll even go hunting around receiving to find a blue or red pallet.

bhsn1pes

Never had one get crushed and not all standard wood pallets are built the same, some are more sturdy than others. I obviously don't use the cheapest piece of shit pallet I can find

aIandracula

A bale *is* heavy-duty shit we send back to the DC. I’ve snapped regular wooden pallets just by accidentally dropping kitty litter on them. There’s no way they could support the weight of a bale.

SnooJokes2049

There is a sensor on the side of the bale machine. Even if the wire snap or if the machine is out in the open you can still operate it if you place your finger on that senor.

OkPalpitation147

Tell me where with more precise details because the amount of times I’ve had to incur +20minites of work because a team member forgot to attach the chains and we can’t bring the compactor down because of the door being open and not being able to shut it enough because the wires are pushing it out.

SnooJokes2049

You can have the bailor open like that and still be operating if you held something over that sensor. It trick the machine into thinking everything is close up and good to go. Just becareful to not kill your teammate.

beaveman1

And ignore all of the warning stickers about moving parts and amputated fingers

SnooJokes2049

Meth can kill also in the same sentence Meth was create and use as a super drug for soldier to stay awake, fight and WIN (Nazi Germany) it how you use it.

beaveman1

Go ahead and stick a piece of metal in there or something like that to hold down the sensor, not your fingers. I do that all the time when our baler jams. I could easily stick my fingers in the holes in the grate to press the button and bypass the security sensors. Instead, I choose to use the rod that we use to punch holes in the cardboard if it is blocking the wire channel. I stick that rod through the holes in the grate and use it to press the button. Bingo - fingers are safe. Zero risk.

blitzschwert

For anyone interested in a really easy (but unsafe) solution, you can bring the gate down and then hold in a sensor that checks if the main door is shut. This will trick the bailer into thinking it is shut and allow you to compress it enough to unhook the wire.

n1njaunic0rn

You can compress without having to "trick it" Simply close the gate and hold the button and it'll go back down as long as you actively press the button. Source: I've done it multiple times.

blitzschwert

Huh, I’ve tried that before and haven’t gotten it to work. Maybe just bailer model differences?

n1njaunic0rn

Possibly? We used to have an older PTR baler before the piston exploded. It worked on that guy and the newer PTR baler (only noticeable differences is the addition of the maintaince/ full light and the newer one is smaller) Don't know the model numbers but I can find them when I go in tonight. I cannot confirm if it works on the weird "self contained" balers that don't use chains but rather a "piston" to move the floor up to eject the bale but I only know 1 store that has the misfortune of having those.

blitzschwert

I’ll have to check mine the next time I go in. Now I’m curious if I just wasn’t holding the button long enough.

9gagsuckz

Re wire correctly and then cut that one

Trekkyz

I remember making bales everyday when I was a backroom TM ahh good times good times!

gentlethorns

i've had this happen. saw it from afar and ran over while they were raising the piston going "wait wait wait!!!!" i was too late to stop it before it busted but i did get everyone to back the fuck away from it. luckily the wire wasn't under tension and didn't snap too hard anyway

MatthewSteakHam

Oof

_Nahidwin_

Sheeeesh

LetsGoFishing91

Just drop your piston back down, untie the bad wire and redo it

OkPalpitation147

Abhorrent work, such poor bale tying, you should be ashamed.

beaveman1

Been there. Done that. One time, I accidentally ran the wire through one of the slots with the chain and the bale ended up tied to the chain.

No-Seaworthiness8082

I once saw a lead training a tm how to make a bale & only when ejecting it did they realize they(TL) fed a wire through a chain. The tm was all ”If you did that while training me, I don’t trust myself to make one on my own”

quinoassault

Whoever made the bale needs to be retrained. Whoever trained them the first time needs to be retrained in how to train.

metooneither

Oops

CakesEverywhere

Since your operation buttons are already on the side, you grab your hook key, and use the failsafe latch that should be near the top of the baler, above the operations board, pull the emergency stop, press the down button until the bale is resting on the bottom of the baler. Redo a new wire, and then clip the one wrapped on the crusher, then you can hit the up button all while the door is opened. Just remember to make sure no one else is standing around while you do these adjustments.

KittenCanaveral

My receiver told me today that everyone has done that at least once in their career, for most it's only once.

Elorme

I only ever used PTR balers so don't know the lesser details of this brand but there are ways to get the PTR balers to function enough to get a bale such as the one pictured retied properly. It's not a common thing to do and I personally wouldn't leave it to most people to do. Competent people sure. We were supposed to never use the cheap pallets for bale's but if I'm making a bale I'm going to ensure I get one that's decent enough to survive the process, not just the first empty pos I came across. Anytime I was ejecting a bale I'd stop it if someone stepped inline with the path a broken wire would take, seen too many break because people cannot load cardboard decently. Not taking that chance, would it necessarily hit someone? No, COULD it hit someone? Yes it it's so easy to just avoid the unlikely potential issue. Everyone deserves to go home in at least as good of health as they arrived in.

Mas790

I just let it snap, doesn’t harm anything

Gallitzen

Well, unless someone's standing in front of it.

Mas790

I’d hope no one is dumb enough to do that tbh

grumpyoldfartess

There’s *always* that one person…
