My dad started doing them on me and now I started doing some too. Are they bad ? No. Are thought through ? Of course not, but do they have a meaning ? Absolutely.

The water actually looks pretty good for being in greyscale, and the background looks like it has actual depth from how it gets less clearly defined for the trees, and then the mountain peaks behind the puppy.
The puppy could be a little better, but you could always just say that it is purposely imperfect as a juxtaposition to the ideal. Also, in the picture, it looks like it might not be 100% healed, so it might look better in time.
I don't think it's bad. If it bothers you, I'm sure an artist could try to revamp it a bit for you.

It's looks like watercolor mixed with acrylic paints. I personally like it. Also let it heal before you judge it, might need to be touched up. it looks pretty dry too.

I think it's a cool piece of art, but a bad tattoo. The silhouettes are not strong enough and with time and age it's going to get harder and harder to see what it is.
I do think that you should be able to get it reworked and polished by a more experienced tattoo artist but there's no rush
It's good! Line work is solid, and the fur is done very well. The background and water were executed perfectly for this style. If the images you provided the artist with looked like what you got or you approved the drawing, then it's great!

Not my cup of tea and a few errors. Looks new, let it settle for 6-8 weeks then reassess. Loads of healing left on it from what I can see.
