not just a good or must watch. there’s a reason it’s considered the pinnacle of television
Hbo rebranded into "MAX" while taking off a substantial amount of the library while adding nothing in return. They also censor cartoons and shows heavily outside of the US.
In short max is garbage.
That’s not correct. HBO is still HBO. All HBO content is on MAX, same as it was when it was HBO Max. They just dropped the HBO because it includes a lot more than HBO now.
They fictionalized this particular incident pretty flagrantly;
The helicopter crashed because the blades collided with the crane. This can clearly be seen in the footage.
HBO tried to imply that…the radiation, like…warped the blades because it was sO pOwErFuL?
It’s a great piece of storytelling/fiction but some of the dramatization borders on misinformation.
We are so focused on our search for Rotten Tomatoes, we fail to consider how few actually want us to find it. But it is always there, whether we see it or not, whether we choose to or not. Rotten Tomatoes doesn’t care about our needs or wants. It doesn’t care about our governments, our ideologies, our religions. It will lie in wait for all time. And this, at last, is the gift of Chernobyl. Where I once would fear the cost of Rotten Tomatoes, now I only ask: What is the cost of IMDB?
The helicopter hit a construction crane cable at the nuclear plant, during a flight to pour a decontaminating acetate mixture onto the accident reactor, and crashed. All four occupants died.
Around 30 pilots or people in helicopters died fr radiation poisoning from flying over the reactor and dumping sand in it. Sure some survived but they had extreme complications like leukemia and other cancers. This helicopter was flying over immediately after the explosion when radiation levels were at their highest.
I mean maybe some would have lived. I was being a bit fatalistic. It's estimated that 1/2 of the people who loaded the helicopters died. So it would have been grim, either way.
Thats what I've always thought happened. I didn't know they hit a wire until today. Always thought the radiation/heat/something caused it to basically...melt. Saying it like that really shows how stupid I can be.
There's no indication that it hit a wire unless you've already seen how a helicopter moves when it does that, and if you didn't know about radiation then the conclusion is perfectly understandable.
If any of the wires nearby were shown whipping around or moving at all it would be easier to see what actually happened
The first image of Chernobyl was captured 14 hours after the April 26, 1986, explosion. It was taken from a helicopter assessing radiation levels in the disaster area. The photo's grainy quality resulted from the intense radiation in the air, which damaged the camera film.

During the operation, the helicopter collided with a construction crane cable while flying to pour a decontaminating acetate mixture onto the reactor. The impact caused the main rotor blades to strike the wires, leading to the helicopter plummeting about a hundred meters into the burnt remains of Chernobyl Reactor #4.
All four crew members died in the crash.
Just imagine the pain lying there with that intense invincible radiation burning pain, looking up to the clear blue sky. You just can't think anything in those final moments except pain
Impact might have been the lesser of two probable causes of death. The victims of acute radiation syndrome/poisoning, at the level of exposure the flight crew would have been exposed to, would endure an unimaginably painful death.
Just started finally watching the series last night, and seeing this pop up today is crazy
I tried to start watching it alone but my girlfriend woke up and got hooked immediately, we were up until 4am watching last night, lol
Time to finish it tonight!
The crash was down to fatigue. The pilots were dropping loads, landing, re-supplying, flying, dropping - repeating for days on end.
With radiation effects also taking hold, the pilot got to close to the crane and crashed.
They all died from the crash fire on the roof beside the core. It was to dangerous to recover the bodies due to the open reactor, the crash spot later became a marker for future drops.
Helicopter crashes always look like this. They hit some invisible wire or something and just fucking fall apart and crash in a fireball. I am not a fan of helicopters. Lol
Comrades - it is time. commence Operation “Our Calculation Say It Gonna Be Easy, Safe, Great, and Proud Moment for Materland: Go Go Helchopitor Hero of the Sky!”
there’s usually a handful of people or more who have never seen the video no matter how many times it’s posted. This is definitely the video I see posted over and over on Reddit the most but I’ve seen other people say that about other videos when it’s the first time I’ve seen them. No worry.
I’ve lived on the internet for the better part of my life, and I’ve spent that time living on gore/shock sites. If someone dies in the video, visible or implied, it’s probably come across my screen. Never once have I seen this video.
Some say they’re still alive. Mutated and immortal due to the radiation. Unfortunately they can’t move the rubble or they will expose the world to and inescapable death.

I watched the HBO version of it, but seeing the actual one, I know it's just a helicopter crash, but something about Chernobyl always gets me. It really could have been avoided.
Hbo miniseries is a good/must watch.
Show was excellent. I want to re-watch it ![gif](giphy|PjIgJLxzQYXxeB5Yx3)

I've watched it multiple times already but just seeing this means I'm probably gonna spend my new year's day off tomorrow watching it again :)
> HBO I'm going to miss HBO as it continues the downward spiral into Max. :(
What?
Hbo rebranded into "MAX" while taking off a substantial amount of the library while adding nothing in return. They also censor cartoons and shows heavily outside of the US. In short max is garbage.
Boy finding a spot has been difficult. I’ll be sure to park there then! Thanks.
Better get in quick though before they realise what they've got and start charging a premium.
You know I couldn't understand why you said this till now lmao. Garage - Garbage. My b. It was bothering me all day.
That’s not correct. HBO is still HBO. All HBO content is on MAX, same as it was when it was HBO Max. They just dropped the HBO because it includes a lot more than HBO now.
Interesting! Thanks!

not great not terrible
3.6 on Rotten Tomatoes
That’s as high as rotten tomatoes goes
You. I like you. Well played.
The real rating? 20,000 tomatoes
😱

Apparently the book it's based on, "Voices from Chernobyl", is also great. Haven't read it yet, though, but heard a lot of good things.
Was super inaccurate though
The helicopter hit a construction crane cable at the nuclear plant, during a flight to pour a decontaminating acetate mixture onto the accident reactor, and crashed. All four occupants died.
It looked like it just wilted from the radiation
They would have all died anyway from the radiation exposure.
nah it depends on certain medical conditions i think, people got way closer than that and lived if i rememeber from the HBO series
Around 30 pilots or people in helicopters died fr radiation poisoning from flying over the reactor and dumping sand in it. Sure some survived but they had extreme complications like leukemia and other cancers. This helicopter was flying over immediately after the explosion when radiation levels were at their highest.
Ok thank you for clarifying
I mean maybe some would have lived. I was being a bit fatalistic. It's estimated that 1/2 of the people who loaded the helicopters died. So it would have been grim, either way.
I hope there is a monument somewhere for those people who gave their life.
Boron and sand :)
My favorite indie band
Thats what I've always thought happened. I didn't know they hit a wire until today. Always thought the radiation/heat/something caused it to basically...melt. Saying it like that really shows how stupid I can be.
Yeah it's not enough radiation for that. That would take many orders of magnitude more.
There's no indication that it hit a wire unless you've already seen how a helicopter moves when it does that, and if you didn't know about radiation then the conclusion is perfectly understandable. If you haven't seen the Chernobyl series ok HBO I hi boy recommend it.

Crazy footage Did they die on impact? Or some horrible other death
Damn Well probably never know Someone may have been alive crashing into that - Horrifying
Just imagine the pain lying there with that intense invincible radiation burning pain, looking up to the clear blue sky. You just can't think anything in those final moments except pain
Invincible
Impact might have been the lesser of two probable causes of death. The victims of acute radiation syndrome/poisoning, at the level of exposure the flight crew would have been exposed to, would endure an unimaginably painful death.
Yes Impact would be the better outcome

At that point I’d rather have been killed in the crash.
100%, imagine rotting to death... Fuck THAT
Damn... Just damn
"Chernobyl" miniseries is a truly horrifying masterpiece, better than any fictional horror.
Real life is basically always stranger than fiction... I want more series made about true historical happenings!
9/11: One Day in America is really good, as is Dahmer.
One Day in America is a documentary but not sure why you’re being downvoted!
Me neither :(
Just started finally watching the series last night, and seeing this pop up today is crazy I tried to start watching it alone but my girlfriend woke up and got hooked immediately, we were up until 4am watching last night, lol Time to finish it tonight!
Very sad when you think about how many brave people had to go to a blind dead to save the others..
It's called love and it's why we live.
The scene from the Chernobyl miniseries of the people who were tasked to shovel graphite off the roof still gives me goosebumps
I mean the amount of exposer they were getting it was over anyway but yeah, that sucks.
The crash was down to fatigue. The pilots were dropping loads, landing, re-supplying, flying, dropping - repeating for days on end. Too
one of the bravest ussr men saced their life there
They weren’t braved they were forced to do it.
Just want to find that music track!
Damn! The way it crumples mid air is terrifying.

Yes. There is the video of it.

Today
I saw it for the first time.. today

Bro, I was just listening to a podcast about Chernobyl. Wtf.
I just finished this show last night and it is insane. It's a must watch. It's terrifying that this actually happened.
The rotor blades got caught on the wires, nothing to do with radiation and the accident
When they redid the canopy that covers Chernobyl Plant, the heli can be seen, it's still there in albeit more than one piece but not too too destroyed

Dying from the crash is the best possible outcome
I watched the HBO version of it, but seeing the actual one, I know it's just a helicopter crash, but something about Chernobyl always gets me. It really could have been avoided.
