They got caught in a flash flood and all fell when one person tried to start moving them out. Might've all fallen anyway, but in this instance that was the last straw.
Caught in a flash flood or stranded on one side of the river by it? It seems like they would have to wade out into that water after it was already in progress. Being hit by it while standing there would probably sweep them away immediately and flash floods like that usually carry a wall of debris at the front on top of that.
Something to add to my gratitude list; not having to attempt an evacuation with my family from a flash flood. Makes me realize how cozy my corner really is.
> Something to add to my gratitude list; not having to attempt an evacuation with my family from a flash flood. Makes me realize how cozy my corner really is.
Yet. Have no idea where you live but no one is out of the woods and it sounds like you can afford to travel, might get you while you're on vacation.
yes, This is near Lonavla, a hill station close to Pune, India. Place seen in video is downstream of Bhushi Dam which was flash flooded during the incident.
I can watch gore deaths so much and it doesn't bother me. But seeing this, it really hurts me because I also have my own family. What a tragic way to go.
For me it's the thought of having to make the decision to let you children get swept away one by one while trying to save the ones you can still hold onto, Vs trying to do *something* by going after the one/s who get swept away but leaving the others to an inevitably similar fate.
Poor, poor souls.
You know that an event can be tragic even if a smarter and better educated person could have avoided this? Or you think it isn't tragic if a child runs out on the road and gets killed, just because there was ways to stop the kid from being able to run out? I don't think people tend to call you "kind"...
Yes, saw bigger clip somewhere, they were all standing in the middle , around 15-20 people, with very small water flow, area flooded suddenly, they are the ones stuck in last. I think 2 of them didn't make it.

Article says 10 people swept away. 5 rescued, 3 found dead, and 2 missing.
The two missing are children.

This happened yesterday near Lonavala, India
I know what video you're talking about, and though there are definitely similarities, I think it may actually be a different occurrence. The pov is definitely different and the water in the other video was not quite as torrential, though it had the same ultimate outcome.
People on the river bank tie a rope to a sturdy tree/rock, then throw it to the man in the river, who ties it around the children, and then the children get launched clear of the others into the flowing river, and those on the river bank pull the children to safety. Its going to feel like pulling a car. The kids may go under and struggle, but if enough are on the river bank, they can be pulled in quick enough to be saved. Rinse and repeat, women next, and so on. If no-one has a rope, or equivalent, then I reckon zero chance (unless you happen to have a convenient helicopter with ladder rope). Not even a downed tree is going to withstand that river. Even the rope is going to hurt/wound.
Basically as soon as they felt they were stranded, they HAD to move then and taken their chances, because the situation was NEVER going to get better, only far worse. Paralysis and uncertainty from the stress of the situation basically defeated them.
Lonavala, India
You can read about it read here: [4 from a Pune family drown in Lonavala waterfall; 1 missing | Pune News - The Indian Express](https://indianexpress.com/article/cities/pune/five-feared-drowned-waterfall-lonavalas-bhushi-dam-9424280/)
Man that is sad to see :/
I think in that moment i would have at leaast tried to throw the smallest ones to the right.
Edit: after carefully rewatching the vid it do look far😅
Probably the only ones that i would be able to throw that far would be ages 5 n down.
Flash floods are common during the monsoon season in Pune/Lonavla regions.
And it's well known about our people to take these things extremely lightly, in fact, no one is taught about basic safety in schools (if these people even went to school that is).
Yet another reason not to take nature lightly, one minute it's a stream, next minute you are downstream with it...
Still tragic, but not all 7 died. [The father and oldest son survived.](https://indianexpress.com/article/cities/pune/five-feared-drowned-waterfall-lonavalas-bhushi-dam-9424280/)
I'm incredibly lucky to have survived the 2007 Rajasthan flash floods with my family.
This reminds me of the day after our encounter, a family of 7 got swept away in the torrent of the luni river with this car.
The people who drowned are from my village and we are very close relatives , it's sad to see this type of stuff happen in an instant .althought this could've been avoided , this is still a tragic incident . Prayers to the family
Everyone else: 👁️👄👁️
I mean, I'm not gonna blame all of them, but, with the crowd that was formed, there was enough to even call for help or even get something like a rope or saw/machine to knock down a tree or something.
But idk what's scary, watching people die and doing or can't do anything, or you dying and everyone watching not doing or can't do anything.
I've honestly seen like 3-4 incidents like this mostly occurring in india
according to the statistics, flash floods have been on the rise and it all has to do with global warming
Well do you try to help and risk make the number go up? That ain’t video games here bud, you act though here behind your keyboard but in a real life scenario you’d be petrified unable to put your shit together and think straight
You ghoul, these people aren't as thick as you are, so they wouldn't do that. The flood trapped them when it suddenly surged around them on a previously tepid and calm day. Flash floods are like this. Please, just because you see it on the internet, don't believe that every person who dies in an accident was an idiot who had it coming.
Your bosses just tell you to think that so you never ask them to take responsibility for your safety.
It was a flash flood , as a frequent traveller my self these types of floods are terrifying. They happen in an instant ,one moment the river is empty and withing seconds it's full.thi k of it like the flodd in the movie " the food dinosaur " . But yeah taking risk for few photos is dumb.

What's the story behind this?
They got caught in a flash flood and all fell when one person tried to start moving them out. Might've all fallen anyway, but in this instance that was the last straw.

Caught. There were more people, the others got out of the way, they were slow and wound up standing still as the water level increased.
Something to add to my gratitude list; not having to attempt an evacuation with my family from a flash flood. Makes me realize how cozy my corner really is.
indeed i live in a place that has never had a natural disaster. it doesn't even get to cold or hot.
We occasionally flood and have fires. No cyclones, tornadoes, earthquake or tsunami as yet.
South Africa?
Buenos Aires Argentina

I can watch the aftermath of ppl dying horrendous deaths but I have a hard time watching the moment they’re taken out like this. How tragic.
Especially seeing the adults try so desperately to keep hold of their kids. It's heartbreaking.
This exact stretch of river seems to figure in a lot of videos about entire families drowning. I think it’s connected to a dam.
yes, This is near Lonavla, a hill station close to Pune, India. Place seen in video is downstream of Bhushi Dam which was flash flooded during the incident.
All those poor souls, may they rest in peace.
Connected to a gawd dam
Inappropriate.
I can watch gore deaths so much and it doesn't bother me. But seeing this, it really hurts me because I also have my own family. What a tragic way to go.
On the other hand, they went together No one was left to mourn the loss of the others
There's still extended family
As a father it does hit me hard. I cannot imagine the nightmare that must have been like holding on to your kids for dear life:-(
For me it's the thought of having to make the decision to let you children get swept away one by one while trying to save the ones you can still hold onto, Vs trying to do *something* by going after the one/s who get swept away but leaving the others to an inevitably similar fate. Poor, poor souls.
Oh for sure. 💔😞
What a horrendous thought to even contemplate. Poor souls. May they rest in peace 🕊️

It most certainly is tragic. And what the hell kind of person are you?
Edgy dumbass redditor type

Fact is, it's still tragic, stupid or not. You, sir, are an asshole.
Darwin never wrote or said survival of the fittest
Still tragic, dick.
Hate to see it. Why were they even in there? Nothing about that looks safe
my guess is that they might have got caught in the middle of a flash flood.
Yes, saw bigger clip somewhere, they were all standing in the middle , around 15-20 people, with very small water flow, area flooded suddenly, they are the ones stuck in last. I think 2 of them didn't make it.
So 5 survived, the title makes it seem like they all died

No that was another group. They were 5 and 3 died. Its weird how this exact situation happened twice
Were they in danger in the middle? Could they not just have waited it out on the dry high ground we see there?

I’m so confused because I know I’ve seen this exact video on the internet for a while now… very strange.
I know what video you're talking about, and though there are definitely similarities, I think it may actually be a different occurrence. The pov is definitely different and the water in the other video was not quite as torrential, though it had the same ultimate outcome.
That video you are talking about is very old and from Patalpani Park Indore central India.
people dying in a flash flood viewed from a river bank isn’t exactly a novel thing my man
no you havent. your memory is worse than you think, sorry.
R.I.P.
What's the proper assessment to help in this kinda situation?

Any idea where this is? Im guessing Bangladesh from what I've heard about floods there
No. India. About 2 hours from Mumbai

omfg this is terrifying! they were fighting to try to save each other
R.I.P poor souls. 🪽
Two of them survived, so no not a entire family of 7
Thank God, thanks for the update.
So sad for that family! Just shocking how you can go so quickly.
Omg that’s awful 😢
Everyone thinks they're strong enough to get out but once that water starts taking you there's not much you can do. May God have mercy on their souls.
Strong as you may be, once the ground beneath you gets washed away then you have no chance
Man that is sad to see :/ I think in that moment i would have at leaast tried to throw the smallest ones to the right. Edit: after carefully rewatching the vid it do look far😅 Probably the only ones that i would be able to throw that far would be ages 5 n down.
Too sad. Only "positive" thing about this is that they all died together as a family.
I read that 2 survived
From where?
His toilet probably, that's where I do all my readin'
https://indianexpress.com/article/cities/pune/newlyweds-among-pune-family-swept-away-rescued-later-9426168/ Sorry. Meant to include the link
Wtf are they doing there?
Awful 🥹
Thats uh not what that emoji is meant for bud
How is there no rope set up for crossing if this happens regularly?
They did not know how to swim
This awful. Sorry I clicked
Brutal
How the hell did they get there in the first place?!
That's so sad.
Only 2 survive, they still have to find bodies of 2 kids , really sad incident
Damn, wiped away from one second to the next in a blink of an eye....
What indescribable horror. Your entire family and legacy wiped out in an instant. Not by any evil or hatred.. but the indifference of mother nature.
r/sadasfuck
Wow that’s so tragic, can’t imagine the fear and helplessness they felt

Have these people never watched 'Bondi Rescue'?! I've watched it enough to know Indians should never venture into water.
At least they died together
Things like this is how I know there is no god.
Jesus fucking christ
They have been there for over 40 thousand years. Build a fucking bridge....look....treeeeeeeeeeeeeeeseeeeeeeeeee

I can watch people getting run over or getting burnt alive by the cartel but drownings are always oddly horrifying to me

Nope. Just stand and recording the death of an entire family.

That water is moving so fast anyone who tries is most likely going down with them. Only hope would be if they somehow got a rope across.
This. You would need Hulk or Goku level strengths to save them.
Hell is he supposed to do....stop the water?
