Did anyone get a black car Knowing they would wrap it ASAP?
Black as a base paint color is considered the easiest to hide/deal with transition areas when wrapping I assume?
As the transition from wrap or “almost any color” to original paintwork would be somewhat muted or hidden like a shadow with Black paintwork as a contrast?
I too, having owned a black car, will never, ever, ever again own a black car. On the day you bought it, it’s fucking gorgeous. After that, swirls, scratches, and dirt will take their toll.
I got stealth xpel ppf + ceramic on an MY, it helped a bit but still looks dirty quickly. Even sitting in my garage after 2 days you will see dust. I loved black until I owned my first black car which is this one.
I had planned to order a black one but with the recent price increase it no longer qualifies for the tax credit. I don’t want a gray one so I’m just waiting for supply to catch up and hoping prices go back down enough to get a black one for under $55K.
When I see red I see mid life crisis. I think black is timeless. Get a carwash a few times a month. I’m assuming you can afford the wash if you can afford the car.
Not sure why people say this… it’s just a color. I think it’s because of corvettes in particular being predominantly red at one point. Glad not most people think that way because no offense, it’s dumb to associate a color with a “condition” that was mostly made up by married women to dissuade their husbands from buying fun things etc
Oh hell yeah. It’s just a gorgeous car. If you get away from the gray factory rims and get the black Aeros or even some of the custom hub caps you can create a really cool look without breaking the bank too
Red every fuckin day of the week on this one
The front lip spoiler, rear diffuser, and rear spoiler are all black no matter the car color you choose. If you pick black, you completely lose all these details and it makes the car look bland. Black on black looks good on sport cars that have a very clear sporty look (very low, wide body, angles). The red accentuates the black parts and makes them pop out immensely in a way no other color does.
Thanks for the take. Ultra red definitely a unique color and maybe easier to maintain. Black is a pain in the arse I’m sure, but I plan on PPF and ceramic coating, not sure if that makes a huge difference in day to day maintenance tho?

I’ve personally seen (and sat in) the red at the Glendale AZ showroom. Up close in person, it’s beautiful. Haven’t seen the black yet, but those pics look amazing, especially with the red calipers. But I’ve owned a couple different black cars over the years (a Mini Cooper S and a VW GTI) and it really is a pain to keep them clean. When my current model 2 lease is up in 2026, I’m currently planning on the model 3P and I’d personally get the red or the stealth gray and maybe just get it wrapped.
I would go ultra red since it'll be much better in terms of quality of the paint. Black Tesla paint is not known for quality and scratches very easily.
Oh if you PPF your car, then you'll be good to go but even then I've seen buyers complain about scratches on the day of delivery for their black Teslas. As long as you have a professional who knows how to paint correct before you put the ppf you'll be good to go but the red is definitely a great color option and isn't boring. Also won't stick out that much compared to other reds if You're worried about getting pulled over.
Exactly how i feel. Black is nice especially when it’s Al blacked out like this one but a lot of black cars out there rolling around the same way. Red would be a unique one to a certain extent. I realized the pics I posted doesn’t really do it justice. It really comes alive in the sun
I have a black performance. It looks great but I wanted ultra red. Black was the only one in inventory discount when I got mine. It's so much work to keep clean lol
Red because it looks better, does not look like a taxi, is easier to keep looking clean, isn’t a flat color and shows off the curves. Black makes all the cars look awful.
I have a black '23 M3P; I would go for any other color if I could do it again. I'm slapping some ceramic coating on it next week in hopes that it will stay cleaner longer than 5 miles after I take 2 hours washing it. If not, I'll probably look into having it wrapped/ painted a different color.
Purely subjective, but I think it looks the best when clean. I also live in the south so the black color doesn't help with the heat.

Yeah, it seems the only way to keep black near perfect is PPF.
I order a M3P black on black and mine is a lease…. So I won’t be doing PPF. Likely tint because I’m in SoCal and will have to remove it end of lease
I ordered black on black. A lot of people are saying it’s plain, that’s ok… black never goes out of style, it always looks good. Yes, we all understand that anything black can be more difficult to keep clean and pristine. But if your planing on PPF, your good. I am going to lease my M3P so I won’t do ppf etc. but if I was to purchase and plan to keep it for more than 4-5 years, I likely would invest to protect it.
Black always looks brilliant. Red is gorgeous as well and it was tempting… but this is my first Tesla so I figure I would lease due to the insane rates right now. After the lease if I like having a Tesla I’ll likely look into the updated model Y performance and do ppf etc.
Get what you want, and ignore everything else.

The black is super dope, it was actually my first option and I was set on getting it. But when I saw the red in person…something about the ultra red in this specific car is really fitting. Tough first world problem to have lol
Red is cool but only with Tints. Black is cool around but trust me, you can see everything from scratches to rings 2nd day out. Just get the tints and the red, thank me later ;)
I’ve always owned black cars and have a black on black M3P on order, so seeing these pictures got me excited. I don’t wash my cars often but would rather have a dirty black than a clean car in another color. In a couple years, if the black paint starts to look worn, I plan to wrap it in maybe a matte black. It’s all preference though. As someone who doesn’t like red cars, the ultra red is very nice.
Edit: I see that the black car in the picture has white interior. Still excited to see a real picture of the black exterior 🤙

I had a 2021 model 3 performance that was black and loved it when it was clean for a few hours lol it wasn’t super hard to take care of and keep looking clean to most people but I’m a bit meticulous and needed it showroom condition as much as possible. I had a garage to park it in and dusted it daily and washed after every rain/snow (when the forecast was ideal).
I went to a 2021 model s plaid in the tri coat red and love it. The black accents against the red look awesome. I do still find myself dusting it just as much; however, it’s less obvious when dusty and dirty.
I’m sure whatever you choose will be the right choice as they are both the right choice. Good luck!
Black is amazing but only lasts a few days. Gets dirty quick and even with ppf you can still see the dust build up. My next M3 I’m going with that ultra red

That black is so beautiful, but I decided I'll never get another black car again. It shows EVERY little swirl, scratch and it's nerve wracking. Every time it's washed there's a worry about creating another swirl. I loved my black cars at first, but when the swirls started showing up, I hated looking at them in the sun.

Depends on the emotion you are going for. Black is a bit intimidating, exudes power, but is "walled off", especially with tints. Red is more exciting, open, and shows off the curves with color shifting in angled light. Both are great!
Either 1 that new M3P is a very great vehicle. You have to see it in person to appreciate it. The upgrades are perfect with the new seats and ambient lights.

Initially, I wanted the black on black murdered out look. But I looked around a bit and realized there are SO many cars that look that way now. Still super nice look, but just extremely common. Most car manufacturers have black wheels and trim these days, didn’t realize it until I looked for it

Black is the absolute worst for concealing scratches and imperfections, why they changed base to white and/or gray depending on the month.
What about if you PPF and ceramic coat it?
It’ll help with scratches but it’ll still only look clean for about 30 seconds after washing. It looks so good but I’ll never own another black car

I have seen some badass looking stealth red wraps.
Ceramic coating helps a lot but ppf definitely fixes that issue as it's wrapped but it will cost you
I’d be willing to make that investment. Would I have to watch it a special way? Or can I put it through the an auto wash?

Cap! Wrapped previous M3 in satin red and got pulled over ONE time in 3 years in Florida.
