Took Austin-build delivery on 3/4/23 with the old terribly designed cover, but my friend has the pictured new design from Fremont from 3/16

Nox_Dei

Nice! I was not aware there was a new design. Thanks for sharing.

Christian87n

Took delivery of my Austin-build on 3/18/23 and same thing. Shame, the new redesign seems so much better.

brunofone

Yes I took delivery of my car Feb 22 2023, Fremont build, had this cargo cover. Like you, I tried to use it by folding it up like an accordion. It doesn't really work. I discovered this YouTube video which shows the way (I think) they intended it to be used, it's still a little clunky but way more elegant than trying to fold it up in place: https://youtu.be/kUkPqYttW4o

mklaman

I use mine (“2 fold”) like lady in video. it’s made to push back and fall down to make it “smaller” - not meant to fold sadly. i like this newer 4 fold better!

kakamaka7

Yeah, tried that and for loading and unloading groceries or something simple it’s a pain in the butt. All I need is the fold to stay in place until I put my stuff in and then it should drop back.

Jomb1e

This seems much more convenient :/ I too have to older one.

Ok_Use_8190

I couldn't figure out how to use it until I saw this video: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRhjMxJ\_Gmg](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRhjMxJ_Gmg)

killingcartoon

I would prefer if they re designed it to be retractable, but this looks like a big improvement

killingcartoon

Does anyone know how to look up the part number for this?

[deleted]

Wait, it's not retractable? ell oh ell Mine didn't come with one at all (2022 Fremont MYP) but the tinting is so dark the cover isn't really needed.

StigHunter

Same! Rear window tint is plenty dark enough and the cover just gets in the way.

balance007

I find it a little bulky to deal with when you need to use the full back area. It does work nice as a picnic table if you have a stand for it though. Probably replace if for a retractable version at some point.

Beautiful_Beard

I’ve always thrown these away. Just seem to get in the way. Maybe somebody can design something decent in the future. Retractable should have been the minimum effort for Tesla.

greppit

Is there an OEM cargo cover for 7-seaters?

SCShupervisor

No, the 7 seater does not come with an OEM cargo cover. The parts of the rear panels the cover sits on are different to allow the 3rd row to function.

Straydapp

I have this, but don't care for the way it folds up and blocks the little visibility out the back

fmcfad01

"Visivility out the back" - that's the funniest thing I've ever heard about our cars.

brunofone

https://youtu.be/kUkPqYttW4o

fmcfad01

yeah, i figured this out pretty quickly as I think my car was delivered with it in the sort of slid back position. It's servicable, but still not great. The ability to pop it up with the new design is much better.

Additional-Kiwi-3898

Ok now I need to try this out, thanks for sharing the video. The shade is such a PITA to get in and out, I don't know why Tesla doesn't include that tip in the manual!

XxArmyMan73xX

I have one and I'm not a fan of it. Too difficult to fold up or store away when you need to place taller items in the back.

ajmorr_is

Push it down behind the rear seats, it fits nicely.

TBakerTMarks

Has anyone found a cargo cover that fits 2023 MYLR 7-seater? They don’t come with the cargo cover.

Deep_Stick8786

https://youtube.com/watch?v=W1DRka3ANqM&si=EnSIkaIECMiOmarE This one fit my 2022 MYLR7. Just have to remove the trunk cover when you use the third row but rails fit fine. I don’t think they sell it anymore though. I do love it though and got the table legs for it too

JustSayTech

I did the cargo cover upgrade on my 7 seater, order these parts C PILLAR UPPER TRIM, ASY, RIGHT HAND(1661181-00-A) C PILLAR UPPER TRIM, ASY, LEFT HAND(1661180-00-A) END ITEM, PARCEL SHELF.(1641293-00-D) Replace them in your car, there's one modification needed on each panel which is to break off the faster at the very end (it will be obvious when installing), other than that, fits perfectly.

Strict_Beautiful7654

Looks way more practical than mine

ticman

Do these come standard or is it the accessory you have to buy from the Tesla shop?

vkmamba

standard now, you may be able to install a retrofit for $

ticman

Brilliant, thanks for that

thursdaysocks

Didn’t know this was a big deal, took delivery last week and this was the cargo cover I got. Nice that it folds and is magnetic, a nice accessory for sure

fmcfad01

All these posts without the vital information we need: What is the part number to order this? I have the previous one, and it's basically garbage. Would pay for this new design. Anyone know how to look it up?

Caedus320

Looking at the part catalog, the parcel shelf is P/N: 1641293-00-F. I have revision D which is the "old" clunky design. I assume revision F is this newer iteration.

fmcfad01

I contacted service and they are suggesting the two side panels are slightly different that this rests on and attaches to, so it may not be a 1 for 1 direct retrofit. Will share more when I find out EDIT: upon further investigation in the parts catalog, it doesn't appear there are updated left and right trim panels required for this new cover. Will advise if Tesla tells me otherwise.

Caedus320

My service center is quoting it as an "over the counter" special order: $60 + tax.

fmcfad01

Were you able to order? They told me it's not available to purchase

fmcfad01

Thank you!

wallaceandbarnes

H Mart FTW

[deleted]

Fucking love H-Mart. I wish there was one closer than 80 minutes away.

fmcfad01

Hey /u/vkmamba, are you able to take a couple photos of the trim panels/rails that this new cover sits on top of? I'm trying to determine if those are common between all cars, and only the cargo cover changes. I messaged the service folks and they suggested the trip pieces would also need to be changed if you change the cover. They haven't gotten back to me on that yet when I questioned them. Some photos of your car's left and right trim pieces without the cover resting on top of them would be really helpful! Thank you! Edit: I think they should be common trim panels, the parts catalog doesn't have new/updated trim part numbers to go along with the new trunk cover panel.

vkmamba

It’s the same exact magnetic trim pieces, just the cover is different

fmcfad01

Thanks for verifying!

stylz168

Thank you! I'll keep an eye on this thread, hopefully we can get a part number or something that we can order.

fmcfad01

I was told by Tesla that the new part is not for sale, but in the future it should be $60-$100.

420b00bs

I spy lychee beer 🍺

vkmamba

Update: requested for the new cargo cover via a service appt and they replaced it for free!

stylz168

I just did the same request, let’s see what they respond with.

TerrysClavicle

Ya I put my old design (February 23) in storage cause it sucks since it’s too big and stiff and gets in the way. My Lexus ct200h had a beautiful retractable design

HughDixxonButts

I have it from a Fremont build. But I took it off the next day and put in the garage storage. Ive always had suv and never really use them.

Slayerz00m

Sell it or give it away here... Some people seem to appreciate this design

TarPit89

Exactly

Modestkilla

My wife’s Y had this as well. We honestly threw it in the trash. It is a pain to use and take up a lot of space.

flapiphone

Can confirm my 02/23 Fremont build MYLR also came with the new cargo cover design. It is tad bit lighter and easier to use that the old design. I have tried sliding it back like how it is in the photos OP shared but mine will not stay it will auto straighten back to flat; Maybe with time/more use the fabric joints will loosen up some, I do like it better than the old design and very happy to have at least received a free cargo cover in the first place😊

jeffchen248

Have there been February deliveries that didn’t get this? Also, did you receive free mudflaps and PPF as well?

carrjar

MYLR5 02/14 delivery and I did not get this version. The now old version that I have is awful...honestly the only negative of new car. Excited to try the [YT tip](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUkPqYttW4o) someone posted above. Free mud flaps and PPF, but had to make appointment for install.

flapiphone

No PPF or Mud flaps, delivered in Atlanta, GA.

c_c_c__combobreaker

I think this comes standard now because of the smash-and-grabs happening in San Francisco. Makes it a tad harder for thieves to steal items from your trunk.

clintforce

I have the Fremont build and have the new cargo cover! It’s convenient

VikPath

My MYLR is from Fremont and it has this one which my friends car is from Austin and he has different one which is terrible 😆

Ter3Cars

MYLR Austin build delivered 3/13 has this 4 segment.

Lordofthereef

My 2005 Prius came with a fillip one that I liked, though didn't use all that often. It was heavier, and probably more expensive to manufacture. Anyway, I think I have the old style and it just slides behind the seat, if that makes sense. I don't try and accordion fold it. Whether that's how it's meant to be used or not, it's working for now. I'll maybe eventually remove it entirely. I see no point.

LuvNThunda

I got mine in January 2023 and has the newer cover. Although I was not aware their was a different version. Good to know...

DownwardFacingBear

If anyone is wondering why they didn’t use a retractable cover, it’s because this heavier folding style helps reduce the “booming” sounds you get in the cabin. Basically it breaks up the cabin preventing sound from bouncing around - the thin material of a retractable cover doesn’t do that. If anyone has one of these they’re not using please DM me, I want to see if I can retrofit it in my ‘21 MY.

Comfortable-Salad-61

TheRealAPB

EU had this cover since the Model Y started selling there.

RezzaBuh

I've got this one in August 2022 MIC build, and it's horrible. My wife doesn't like it either. I'm thinking about replacing it with the retractable aftermarket cargo cover.

SK10504

our fremont my delivered 10/22 didn't come with the cargo cover. i looked into getting the tesla shelf or a retractable cover. i decided to go with the retractable cover due to its small form factor when fully retracted. it easily stores in the rear footwell or on the rear seat still allowing room for items or passengers. the oem cover folds but it is still to large to store it anywhere when you are away from home. also, to install oem cover, you need to unbolt the seat belt on both sides to pass through the seat belt into the new side panels. also, retractable covers have come down in price since oem covers came on the market.

Seira321

Yours looks like this one: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8c3s9fK-3pw Is there a part# sticker on yours?

Seira321

More info: Picked my car up 12/17/2022, came with the multifold parcel shelf, but no part# listed anywhere. Friend picked hers up 12/31/2021, came with single fold style, part#1641293-00-D. Friend picked his up 3/29/23, came with same as mine, also no part#.

JustSayTech

Does this have a part model number?
