About every 6-7000 miles just like they recommend. Discount tire for free. Never a problem.

Mysterious-Salad9609

I tried discount and they refused bc it was a tesla. Just kind turned around and left didn't ask questions. I've booked with mobile service for $65 but read someone said if the tread is even, don't need, so I bought a $25 digital tire tread depth gauge to see if I need it

Spectacular_Carter

Try a different discount tires. I live in TN (might be a state thing) and i paid for a lifetime rotate and balance on my model Y with them. So every 5k miles i go in and it’s free. Also placed certificates on my tires (nashville has a lot of potholes) so instead of $445 (20” goodyear) it’s free

DrBob-O-Link

I called Discount Tire (MidWest USA) and they said it would be $85.00 to rotate on a Tesla.. mobile service came to my house and cost me $65. That works for me.. 6500-7000 miles or so. There's probably a 20%-30% safety margin in the rotation mileage recommendations, but.. in general.. better to stick with the recommendation

Slayerz00m

Bay Area, half the cars are Teslas, America's Tire does a free rotation. They do charge a one-time fee of $80 for lifetime wheel balancing, but then that's additional and not mandatory _(though recommended)_

Hamtaro7

How did you get 65, my mobile is 105

Mysterious-Salad9609

Idk that was just the price mobile gave me in the app

Hamtaro7

What the heck I just submitted and it’s 65 now, it was 105 two weeks ago …

Mysterious-Salad9609

They've been dropping prices? Makes sense

Hamtaro7

Glad I didn’t do it two weeks ago almost paid a premium

Slayerz00m

Does Tesla also do wheel balancing when they do the rotation?

Hamtaro7

Probably not with a mobile appt

greppit

No

SHale1963

for me tesla coming out is $65 as well.

Veridian4

When they come out, what do they use two jacks at the same time ?

SHale1963

just one at a time as they only have one jack in their tesla vehicle, which in my case can be an S or X.

shaneucf

My Tesla shop actually recommended discount tires when I wanted to put on aftermarket rims.... They said discount tires has some agreement with them to do tires.

Mysterious-Salad9609

Maybe I got a bad discount tire? Or the sales rep at the front just didn't like Tesla or was being lazy idk. I figured I'll give mobile service a shot just to talk to the guy. See if he can check all the bolts make sure theyre tight

LawfulnessNeither189

Discount did mine, be careful though, Performance models have to go side to side and they f-ed that up

djnack

Good point. Bc the rear wheels and tires are bigger than the front. Always wondered why they didn’t just match all from the factory.

krishna_rolly

I don't. While driving the electric motor rotates the tires automatically

Silver_Slicer

Software updates rotate them.

zynrd

Driving backwards will do

MichaelMeier112

There’s a setting under general -> wheels -> rotate

NutzPup

😆

Revolutionary_Main75

I just did for first time at 11k miles. Pro tip, if you got Goodyears with your new Tesla any Goodyear place rotates then for free.

redbluematrix

To piggy back off this.. are you getting regular alignment and if so how often? New Tesla owner just hit 6k so this thread has my curiosity if your doing alignment instead of rotation

fred16245

I thought alignment pretty much is not a thing on the Y. Only in extreme cases does it go out and when it does it is very difficult to correct. Someone please chime in if I have this wrong.

engwish

There is no reason to do an alignment unless you actually need one (this is usually evident by tire wear)

gruntang

What if your car is pulling ever so slightly to the right..:no obvious tread wear difference though

Sius72

2 things - 1. Most roads have a slight crown which means they "lean" to your right for drainage. 2. Much safer if your car is pulling ever so slightly to the right opposed to the left. I'd much rather go into the ditch if I'm not paying attention opposed to head on into traffic. Just my 2 cents!

gruntang

Oh I probably should have mentioned I have a right hand drive. When there’s a small lean in the road, the car goes straight, but when the road is flat, it pulls to the right - it’ll cross the center line after 100 meters or so

Sius72

That changes everything. Your car is trying to kill you.

gruntang

So finally took it in for a service. Did a tire rotation, and a balance. The balance was free based on the fact that the car was trying to kill me

gruntang

😢

greppit

Annual alignments are required to maintain my aftermarket tires' warranty. I got a lifetime alignment agreement at Firestone for under $200. I get my alignments every two tire rotations.

fmcfad01

This is literally the same answer as the OP question: get a tread wear gauge and measure inner, middle, and outer depth of all your tires. If you see something wearing irregularly, rotate or get alignment done. There is no need to do anything to a car on a periodic as a best practice. Everything is evidence based (unless you're just anal and want to).

LSinUSA

Asked Tesla mobile service to rotate at 10k. They told me to wait another 10k because there wasn’t enough tread difference.

flyingdutchman7588

Same here. I asked Tesla mobile service at 7K and 12K and both times they said it was not needed. Might have to rotate at 18K though

ihatebloopers

They came and checked the tread?

LSinUSA

Had appointment to do the rotation and they measured first. Left without charging as a one time courtesy.

jaybstory

I can second this. Mobile service came to my location, measured tread and mentioned that I was good for another 6-7k. No charge.

ihatebloopers

Ok thanks. I'm at 6500, should I just wait until 10k to set up the appointment?

Slayerz00m

Tire rotation miles are inversely proportional to Fun. I bought a tire tread depth gauge, noticed that front and rears have a 2/32 difference, rotated at 5.5k miles 🤷‍♂️ ***(Acceleration Boost)***

fmcfad01

This is the way

Significant-Quit3134

Can’t rotate, the back ones are too wide for the front!

mattwb72

Right?! Are all of us with the a MYP supposed to take the tires off the wheels and get them remounted every 6000 miles?

fmcfad01

No, you can just do what rear wheel sports car owners do and buy 2 pairs or rears for every pair of fronts. Evidence: BMW M owner.

Meriak67

You can still do regular tire balancing though.

MattNis11

They rotate as you drive.

burns_after_reading

Elon doesn't talk about this feature enough

CrappyTan69

He wants to add it as a paid-for option

rnaiyc

5k to maintain my tire warranty. Stock tires I replaced at 21k... I drive my car much differently now lol

Gullible_Accident_37

Last time I did it at 8,000 miles I got a flat the next day.

[deleted]

10k km Do it myself Geminis rock

Comfortable_Put4473

6k with two jacks

DrHumongous

I’m on my first set of tires with almost 35,000 miles and I’ve had Tesla come to my house three times to “rotate “the tires and each time they’ve said everything looks evenly worn and fine and we’re not gonna do it. And they say I still have about half the life of the tread left.

TheCenterForAnts

you have at 35k and still have 1/2 tread left? what tires do you have

redbluematrix

Also if I’m not mistaken doesn’t the latest Tesla update detect un-even tread wear now?

McSchleppy

How would it do that?

PM_ME_DANK

"You might not be able to visually notice the difference, but as your tire loses tread, it is getting smaller. When this happens the tire begins rotating faster than it was when it was new. What your Tesla is likely doing is measuring how many times the wheel is rotating, and once it reaches a certain point it knows that the tire tread is getting low. Similarly, if one tire is rotating faster than the other, it would also know if the tread is wearing unevenly." [Source](https://driveteslacanada.ca/software-updates/your-tesla-can-now-detect-your-tire-wear-and-tread-depth-heres-how/)

TheCenterForAnts

''rotating faster than it was when it was new'' to go the same distance, right? so you're telling me it can tell the difference between pi\*22 vs pi\*21 30/32 using what exactly as the true distance to compare against? gps with a 10' accuracy? doubt edit: i just realized i described true depth measurement, not difference between two tires. i suppose if all 4 tires are always monitored for revolutions, then (assuming equal turning and slipping) you can estimate difference in total revolutions across the same distance as wear difference

tmillernc

Never. Just as Tesla Service told me. 23K miles and still going strong. No uneven wear.

engwish

Why would Tesla service tell you to not rotate your tires? Do you think your car is immune from requiring tire rotations?

tmillernc

I have an MYP that has different size tires front to back. When I bought it the manual said to rotate every 6500 miles side to side. When I asked the SC to do it, they said they no longer recommend it unless you are seeing uneven wear side to side, which I am not.

ajman22

You should still rotate side to side

tmillernc

I’m just telling you what Tesla told me.

CrappyTan69

I'm seeing this too. MY, 12 months old, 15k miles. No uneven wear worth worrying about. Tyres don't have long to go either so pretty happy with it.

Kenju4u

7500 miles is generally recommended

BlaineBMA

We rotate every 5K miles

Lr8s5sb7

6000 miles.

Renzr415

5k miles

fmcfad01

As needed, when measured by a tread depth gauge. There is no right/standard answer

anomaly256

Mine rotate every time I leave the garage

ilikepotatopies

Tesla recommends rotating the tires every 6,250 miles (10,000 km) or if tread depth difference is 2/32 in (1.5 mm) or greater, whichever comes first. I do so as needed. 2/32 difference or I am not gonna bother with it. As long as wear pattern is consistent across the tire. Tire rotation is free at some discount tires. Or you can DIY with a set of pucks, jacks, and torque wrench. Some SC will do it for more or less $60, other SC will charge you 1 hr rate of $200 ish because they don’t wanna deal with that kinda work. Tire rotation is meant to extend the life of your tires. Doesn’t make sense to over spend on it either.

high-tech-low-life

I rotate every 5k miles. That is more than required, but easier to remember. Costco does the actual work.

SnooDoodles147

When the car tells you to. It’ll send an alert when the tire tread difference is above a certain threshold

Obvious-Slip4728

I’m from Europe. I don’t know anybody that rotates tyres. I’ve never rotated tires on any of my cars. Guess this is an American thing? Like changing oil on an ICE more frequently than once every few years… I guess the advantages of a longer lasting tyres are more or less negated by the costs of the rotation (there is not much of a diy culture for these thing in most of Europe). I guess some people do rotate when switching from summer to winter tyres and vice versa.

[deleted]

Rotation of tires is free at many tire chains here. Even if you didn't buy the tires there.

[deleted]

How often should it be? I have 3200 miles on my Y. When is it due?

SHale1963

every 7500. But for first one Tesla mobile tech said all the tires were even, so no need. So first rotation will be today at 10,000.

loganintx

Never. S and Y. 30k miles each. Never rotated. Very even wear

[deleted]

Twice a day

AltruisticStrike5341

I put in a request to Tesla mobile service for a rotation at 6500 miles, guy came out and said my tires were wearing evenly and to reach out in another 6500 miles. No charge

Alert-Consequence671

Usually just by pushing the gas pedal 🤷

SkiWaterdog

Rotate every 5K miles (do it myself), and get an alignment annually. I drive about 30K miles a year.

EconomicsDramatic523

I’m at 6k miles so was checking on Tesla mobile service for “tire rotation” A. Doesn’t offer home tire rotation. Have to go into local service center B. WTF…$370 to rotate tires??? In Seattle…
