You can't switch from a non-immigrant visa to another non-immigrant visa (in this case, non-B to non-O). You *can* however switch the *reason* for the extension-of-stay, in this case work to marriage. Do you have a visa or an extension-of-stay? >Thai Marriage Visa. This isn't a thing. A "Thai Marriage Visa" is actually an "extension-of-stay based on marriage" which you can do, as I stated above. It's not an actual visa.

Damnit! I just extended my Non-B last December! Well, I guess to do things now I just need to go the longer route of cancelling the Non-B and then apply for the Non-O ☹️

suratthaniexpats

>route of cancelling the Non-B I'm suprised they told you this since your non-B was automatically voided once you were given an extension-of-stay. >And to do that I would need to fly out and re-enter (emphasis on “not on the same day”) with a free-entry stamp It's easier for them if you did this, but wouldn't work if you had already gotten a re-entry permit as that would be need to be cancelled too. I think you should go back to immigration. You're cancelling your current extension-of-stay and then reapplying for another extension-of-stay. Don't mention visas, because that's not what you're there for. Before you do anything though, post in the [Thai Visa Advice group on Facebook](https://www.facebook.com/groups/thailandvisaadvice/) and ask about your situation.

I switched from Non-B to Non-O. I looked a LOT online for help / answers about it and there wasn't much good info I found. Here was my process: 1) You have to cancel your Non-B at the immigration office. 2) Fly / Travel to another country within a few weeks (I dont remember how much time I had for this part) 3) return to Thailand on a tourist visa 4) begin applying for Non-O Happy to answer any other questions about it. There was a lot of BS involved tbh.

Kaoswarr

Would they not question you why you’re coming back in on a tourist visa after being on another type of visa?

Brompy

They didn't question me at all. If they did, just tell the truth you are applying for marriage visa.

Kaoswarr

Yeah that’s fair enough. I’m in a situation similar to this and thought coming back on a tourist visa would be completely out of the question due to how long I’ve spent in Thailand. Don’t fancy getting rejected at Suvarnabhumi haha.

Just keep the non-b until you don't have a job any longer.

As far as I remember, in country one can switch between a tourist/transit (with form TM86) or visa exemption (with form TM87) to a non-immigrant, which is what the officer suggested; switching between non-immigrant usually requires exiting and re-entering, because the new non-immigrant visa must be "activated" at the border. This is also common for other countries, not only Thailand.

Individual_Rule8771

I did it about 6 years ago but my old company gave me an extra week after I actually finished so I just about had time to do it without leaving the country

moumous87

So you still needed to cancel your Non-B, is it?

Individual_Rule8771

the non B wasn't actually cancelled, I am still on the original visa but the extension has changed to "Thai Wife". Had to cancel the work permit and I did that at boi and then the visa isn't immediately cancelled you just get 7 days to leave the country from the date your work finishes. I finished work a week before my date on paper, so I had time to get the extension without leaving

logicalflex

I did it before. You should speak to your hr team. They had to create some document stating I quit, then I went to labor department to claim I quit my job and then onto immigration to get my non-b cancelled. The same day I applied for non-o and submit all necessary docs. You leave your passport and come pick it up a day or so later and then get back on your company books. Much easier than converting from a non-o to a non-b as that requires you to leave the country. At least from my experience.

Chaengwattana will make anything like that a nightmare. If you insist on doing it there yourself then you'll have to cancel it and do it as they say. I'd just use an agent who could sort it easily for you, but won't be done at chaengwattana

Leo1309

Do you know any reputable visa agents by chance?

moumous87

Yes. So true.
