It's because people don't go to movies like they used to and studios are less willing to take chances on new ideas. There are exceptions of course and the tide might be turning with Barbenheimer but that is the logic behind it. It's just capitalism at work, protecting the interests of the shareholders/monied class whom have become increasingly risk averse & greedy
Favorite movie ever!
Personally, I’d love to see a sequel/prequel/etc. But I also understand the love for the original and we’ve lost a few who were in the original.
Sometimes Gilliam calls them a sort of trilogy (You’ve got a story of a boy, a young man, and an old man), but they’re not actually thematically related.
Me too! No one has ever seen it that I speak to they ask what it is, then i go explaining it and I sound like a crazy person. Midgets work for god. The whole world in 7 days was a patch job so there hidden gaps. There is a map. They steal. Go through time portals and kidnap a kid then god chase’s them. It’s insane 😂
Time Bandits is available on 4K UHD Criterion:

You're in luck, because as of 2023 [a streaming series is being worked on](https://collider.com/time-bandits-cast-plot-creators-remake-series-taika-waititi/) for AppleTV+
It's easy to reflexively agree because "lol companies are evil", but if they match the production quality of recent hits like The Last of Us and Fallout, it will be a treat for people who watched the source material.
IMO the only reason a movie should be remade is if it failed but had an interesting plot/storyline but was just executed poorly. This was done perfectly, no reason to remake it.
Let it be. Let the Princess Bride be as well. Some films are their own unique moments as is and better experienced in their original interpretation. Blazing Saddles. Make something new. We have these already.
Definitely leave alone! Not a fan of remakes because very few ever capture the original. I remember being mesmerized as a 6yr old kid watching the giant with the boat on his head. What a movie!!!
I have loved that movie (and most of Gilliam’s stuff) since I was kid. No way it could be remade. It would not have the same feel at all. Not for me at least.
Hey, I just watched this again about a month ago. Fun movie.
Remakes suck usually and I used to think of it as ruining. But now I just don't care. Cash in on a shitty copy. You won't get my money. I'll be watching the original.
Redo it, IF... Villeneuve, Nolan, Mangold, Fincher, Zemeckis. They come to mind.
If it's some debut outing for a new director of previously released slasher movies, I'm a no.
That's a movie that I had very fond memories of, then I watched it again when I got older and realized it just wasn't the same as when I was a teenager. I've gotten where I do think fondly of it again when I think about watching it back then, but I know not to try and watch it again now.
I predict a militant uprising at the political incorrectness of this brilliant masterpiece should a redo be attempted, at least one true to the original
I just showed this to my 12 y/o son this last weekend. He loved it. Immediately started coming up with ways to make a videogame out of it. No one and nothing could bring the same feelings to the screen this movie did. Leave it and let it stand on it's own short legs.
I’ve always felt there is a valid reason to remake movies. To introduce them to a new generation. The vast majority of people just don’t watch old movies. I’m sure there are young people that have seen Time Bandits, but not a lot. Remake the movie and you have the opportunity to introduce millions to the story.
Saying that, if they remade Time Bandits, I’d see it opening weekend. I love the original and would like to see what someone else does with it.
You can’t remake this, it is what it is. John Cleese among many others, Terry Gilliam directed, you can’t replace what they brought to it. Steve Martin redid pink panther, that was blasphemous, I won’t see it. Only Peter Sellers could do that role, Naked Gun with Liam Neason I might see, but realistically it’s all about what Leslie Nielsen brings to it. Although I just noticed how much their names seem identical, so I will hope that bodes well! Anything Terry Gilliam has directed has his fingerprints on it, they can not and should not be removed or redone.
The attendance at movies is more due to the outrageous prices nowadays as opposed to the quality of movies coming out; whether it be a sequel or a spinoff of a franchise, or a remake, or a completely original movie, a good movie; meaning good story, good soundtrack, good acting, good cinematography and SFX if needed; will do very well. Those are few and far between though, as Hollywood, or whomever, have gotten lazy and go for cash grabs with cheap movies with a big name attached, even if it’s garbage, if they make it cheaply enough it’ll still make some money.
Most remakes are awful. And then we have Dune. IMO remake needs at least original story and character development, cannot be all stunts and effects. I love the swing scene with the rope fibers breaking-can hear fibers snapping and see them turning to dust.
They can’t even put dwarves in a Snow White movie today. You think anyone is brave enough to remake this?
Anyway, it’s a classic and should be preserved as is.
I don’t think any of Gillian’s works could be remade. He’s so unique in his style, humour, and visual sense that anything trying to remake his movies would never get it right.
This is one 80s movie that can never be remade. The aura of a one of a kind prestigious actor like Sean Connery in such a ridiculous movie cannot be even remotely replicated.
Let it be. Saw it as a child in theater and it was magic- still is. Terry Gilliam movies should not be remade- whether they are good or bad. Let it be.
I didn't understand the ending. I mean, everyone left the kid alone without a care? I was hoping the firefighter guy would at least take him in like his other persona did!
You cannot under any circumstances try to remake a Terry Gilliam film. 1) you can’t duplicate the aesthetic, and 2) you can’t better what he already did. The imagination trilogy (time bandits, Brazil, Baron Munchausin) cannot be reimagined
I loved this show, my granddad turned me on to it a few years ago and I just loved it. They definitely should look at remaking it, but only a little darker. Maybe Tim Burton could be called up to direct it?
The answer on any classic is “Let it be.” It is very rare for any remake to even approach, much less exceed, a classic. There are a hadnful but it’s rare.
I see utterly no reason whatsoever to remake “Time Bandits”. Enjoy what we’ve already been given.
George Burns milked "Oh, God!" for two or three sequels. A bunch of mischievous god's little helpers could easily have made several more. Maybe they were put off sequels after David Rappaport suicided? The thing that always really irked me about that movie is that Sean Connery and John Cleese got top billing and all the little people actors were way down the list on the credits. Just look at the promo poster you pasted for this.
Anyone who wants to ride on the actual Time Bandit can travel to Big Bear Lake,CA. Someone brought it up here and is running it as a tourist attraction.
While I would much rather prefer original, risk taking films. I don't get the opposition to remakes, prequels or sequels. It's not like you have to watch them. Plus, it might spark interest in the original.
Why. Why remake such a brilliantly fantastic horrible wonderful film?
It's like baron van Munchausen - so good and awful and perfect.
Hollywood got boring.
Of course, the biggest announcement regarding perhaps the entire project is that of Taika Waititi's involvement. Not only is Waititi co-writing and directing, but the series has also been shot in his homeland of New Zealand. Acting as an executive producer, writer, and director of the first two episodes, Waititi is certainly going to put his unique stamp on the already strange world created by the great Terry Gilliam

The only reason I can see to remake old movies is because you want cash and you're lazy and out of ideas.
Sounds like Hollywood
It's because people don't go to movies like they used to and studios are less willing to take chances on new ideas. There are exceptions of course and the tide might be turning with Barbenheimer but that is the logic behind it. It's just capitalism at work, protecting the interests of the shareholders/monied class whom have become increasingly risk averse & greedy
Money laundering.
Definitely a leave it. I personally also think they should have left Willy Wonka alone also
👍👍👍
I don’t think all remakes are bad. I grew up on the Johnny Depp Charlie and The Chocolate Factory and its literally my childhood throwback movie.
The first one was from my childhood. So, I'm sure you can appreciate my point of view.
Favorite movie ever! Personally, I’d love to see a sequel/prequel/etc. But I also understand the love for the original and we’ve lost a few who were in the original.
Here here. No remake PLEASE - but maybe another movie in the Gilliam Batshit Crazy Awesome Universe (GBCAU)
I thought The Adventures of Baron Munchausen was the prequel and Brazil was the sequel?
Sometimes Gilliam calls them a sort of trilogy (You’ve got a story of a boy, a young man, and an old man), but they’re not actually thematically related.
Me too! No one has ever seen it that I speak to they ask what it is, then i go explaining it and I sound like a crazy person. Midgets work for god. Can’t be remade. The humor at the core of it doesn’t exist in todays writing.
No way they just let the parents die and end the movie in 2024
It'd be like ending "The Avengers" with a giant Monty Python foot just crushing everyone. Roll credits.
Would've been an amazing rendition tbh
No need to redo...it’s a masterpiece!

What, no way
Way
...concentrated evil
It's easy to reflexively agree because "lol companies are evil", but if they match the production quality of recent hits like The Last of Us and Fallout, it will be a treat for people who watched the source material.
Let well be
Let be! There’s no way to improve it.
The bandits were awesome - "Me and My Shadow" "that's what I like; little things hitting each other"
Ooo...the problem......
Let it be please
People with zero mentality are the types that call for flawless classics to be remade . Because their generation can't compare.
Leave it alone. No, Tim Burton, **no**! Bad director! 🗞️
I reference the end all the time. The morning after the 2020 tornado in Nashville, I walked out side and it felt like that.
Don't touch it! It's evil!
Don’t remake this
Let it be of course.
Let it be. It was perfect for what it was...and George Harrison was involved in this production, which makes it especially relevant to me personally.
Let it be, man.
Leave it alone. Gilliam has a very distinct tone and style that can't be duplicated.
IMO the only reason a movie should be remade is if it failed but had an interesting plot/storyline but was just executed poorly. This was done perfectly, no reason to remake it.
I watched this movie a lot growing up. Loved it ! Leave it be. They’d just replace the little people with big fat black lesbians
leave it!
Leave it alone
Let it be.
Let it be. Let the Princess Bride be as well. Some films are their own unique moments as is and better experienced in their original interpretation. Blazing Saddles. Make something new. We have these already.
Let it be.
LET IT BE!!
Leave it alone. Terry Gilliam's movies are all his unique vision. You can't improve upon them with newer, flashier visual effects.
No. It would be like remaking The Princess Bride.
They would make CGI little people
Don’t fuck with this one please.
Can’t remake it. It would be socially offensive
NO - Do not remake! Fuck off with the idea of remaking this masterpiece!
STOP REMAKING THINGS…….please😁
as the Beatles said “Let it FUCKING! be.
I don't want anything from the past touched by these unimaginative fucks.
"Put all the concentrated evil in this bucket" Or something like that. Cracked us up as teens watching.
Leave it!!!!
Hey, I just watched this again about a month ago. Fun movie. Remakes suck usually and I used to think of it as ruining. But now I just don't care. Cash in on a shitty copy. You won't get my money. I'll be watching the original.

Taika’s not good enough for you? Well, fuck it then!
One of my childhood favourites. The ending still fucks with me though.
"Strutter get his torch! Shine it right in the face! HIS FACE, DUMMY!!"
That movie scared the shit out of me as a kid. I tried watching it a few years ago and it still gives me the ick.
Let it be. This movie freaked me out as a kid. Haven't seen it since the 80s and am wondering what I'd think of it now...
That's a movie that I had very fond memories of, then I watched it again when I got older and realized it just wasn't the same as when I was a teenager. I've gotten where I do think fondly of it again when I think about watching it back then, but I know not to try and watch it again now.

Please, don't remake this.
OMG NO!! one of my first favorite movies from when I was a kid. Please do not destroy this with CGI and bad acting…
God the ending of this movie left me so freaked out
“Don’t touch that, it’s evil!!!” *touches rock*
Hollywood better not dare remake or reboot this movie. Leave it alone, it's a classic.
To quote the Beatles, Let It Be!
Don’t touch it , it’s concentrated evil !
😂😂👍
Classic
Great movie. Funny how close it is in aesthetic to "Baron Munchausen." Remaking these would be tough, budget-wise and content.
There is NO WAY you can replace those little people! They were the Best!
Fine as is
Hollywood is to step back from this IP and walk away before someone gets hurt.
I’ve always felt there is a valid reason to remake movies. To introduce them to a new generation. The vast majority of people just don’t watch old movies. No way you remake this. That would be like trying to remake a Monty Python movie.
Ian Holm as Drunk Napoleon listing off other conquerors’ heights is one of my favorite things ever.
Leave this film alone!
Stop remaking everything
Yea. If they do it right. That’s a classic film.
Let it be. Im tired of every remake being rid of humor and the characters being changed to appease the inclusion police.
Most remakes are awful. And then we have Dune. IMO remake needs at least original story and character development, cannot be all stunts and effects. I love the swing scene with the rope fibers breaking-can hear fibers snapping and see them turning to dust.
Let.it.be. Some classics are classics for a reason.
Leave it alone!
They can’t even put dwarves in a Snow White movie today. You think anyone is brave enough to remake this? Anyway, it’s a classic and should be preserved as is.
Stop remaking movies!
Don't fucking touch Time Bandits. I'll come at you.. I probably won't.
Like the Beatles said let it be
Leave it alone, it's a classic. 1st time I saw it I was high and it blew my mind lol
let all of them be and enjoy them as they are, and were meant to be. especially a Terry Gilliam. 🖤
Let it be.
Let be. For god’s sakes, let it be. Stop this remake shit.
Let it be, pleazzzzze. Great movie. Top 10 for me all day long.
Let it be.
Remake? Do you have something new to say that they missed? What is it?
😂👍
Let it be.
Because of this movie, I can't hear the name 'Kevin' without saying (sometimes out loud), "Stinking Kevin".
Dude, don’t remake the movie, not everything has to be destroyed with cgi.
Leave it alone, to PC in this time and would use tons of CGI to facilitate the production
I don’t think any of Gillian’s works could be remade. He’s so unique in his style, humour, and visual sense that anything trying to remake his movies would never get it right.
Leave it tf alone.
I don't think they should remake it but has it been remastered? That would be cool
Let. It. BE.
No. Just leave it alone.
Could they make it weird enough though? I feel like they would just homogenize it
Oh Benson…ARFFF!
This is one 80s movie that can never be remade. The aura of a one of a kind prestigious actor like Sean Connery in such a ridiculous movie cannot be even remotely replicated.
Don’t touch it! It’s pure evil!
Let it be.
So this is what an invisible barrier looks like.
Terry Gilliam can in no way be duplicated and the quirkiness of this movie wouldn’t interest a mainstream audience.
Let it be. Saw it as a child in theater and it was magic- still is. Terry Gilliam movies should not be remade- whether they are good or bad. Let it be.
THERE IS NO WAY... A movie laughing at midgets is going to be made today. I love you Time Bandits and Safety Dance.
I didn't understand the ending. I mean, everyone left the kid alone without a care? I was hoping the firefighter guy would at least take him in like his other persona did!
We don't need remakes of anything, tbh.
Nah, they’ll just gay it up, or make every character a woman, black or gay black. Leave the classics alone, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, leave them alone…
Remake it and die. It is absolutely perfect as it is. None of Terry Gillam’s movies should be remade. He has a wonderful and unique vision.
You cannot under any circumstances try to remake a Terry Gilliam film. 1) you can’t duplicate the aesthetic, and 2) you can’t better what he already did. The imagination trilogy (time bandits, Brazil, Baron Munchausin) cannot be reimagined
The microwave part scared the shit out of me as an eleven year old. I don’t know why but it just really messed me up
I loved this show, my granddad turned me on to it a few years ago and I just loved it. They definitely should look at remaking it, but only a little darker. Maybe Tim Burton could be called up to direct it?

They're being strategic waiting for all you 80's fucks to get old so you can take the grand kids for extra ticket sales.
Can’t remake this one
Remake exactly zero Terry Gilliam movies.
sequel but just to let new ppl know this exists
Let it be. STOP. RETURN THE FILM. RETURN WHAT YOU HAVE STOLEN FROM ME.
Please, please, please **NO**
I used to work with a blind man and this was his favorite movie.
It has something to do with free will…
George Burns milked "Oh, God!" for two or three sequels. A bunch of mischievous god's little helpers could easily have made several more. Maybe they were put off sequels after David Rappaport suicided? Great movie. George Harrison bank rolled it.
If they tried to remake it, Terry Gilliam would probably personally go on a rampage.
Can we all agree that it was a horror movie? Some say it is a comedy, but young me definitely disagrees.
Prequel, sequel, and remaster...
Have you met the Poor?
😂😂😂👍
Bros thinking you can remake a movie of 6 white male dwarves in 2024. LMAO best laugh of the day.
Ian Holm as Napoleon: "Little things hitting each other. THAT'S WHAT I LIKE!"
It does not hold up.
Fun fact: Time Bandits was the first movie in a "Trilogy of Imagination". Part two: Brazil Part three: The Adventures of Baron Munchausen
I’m probably in the minority here but I didn’t like the ending
Let it be, Hollyweird won't be able to improve on the story, so they should stay away from it.
Leave Time Bandits alone.
Yes!!!!!
:,)…
One of my favorite movie scenes of all time is where Robin Hood is handing out the loot, and some other guy is punching people out and taking it back.
😂😂😂👍
"Oh...Pansy...."
While I would much rather prefer original, risk taking films. I don't get the opposition to remakes, prequels or sequels. It's not like you have to watch them. Plus, it might spark interest in the original.
Only ones that could make a remake work are Peter Jackson, Sam Raimi, Edgar Wright, Spielberg, Scorsese (hugo)

Let be. How could it be any better?
I’d prefer a 4k uhd remaster
As The Rolling Stones said, let it be
David Warner is the ultimate bad guy
I enjoyed this, but it wasn’t funny at all.
Please let it be. 🙏
It was already remade https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_Bandits_(TV_series)
That cast list though
"Nipples for men! If I was the Supreme being, there would be lasers 8 o'clock day 1."
Leave it alone. Saw this movie at the cinema, loved so much I went back the following day to see it again. "Digital watches on day 1"
Always let be.
Time Bandits made itself, it CANNOT be remade!
Leave it alone.
_It's 600 feet tall... bright red... and smells TERRIBLE!!!_
Let be. I have an idea. Remake bad movies with great premises.
Let.It.Be. I love the original and it has the best movie ending ever!!!!!
It’s rare I say remake anything, and I am not starting here
Leave it alone
I’ll be honest I didn’t see the parents exploding coming. Terry Gilliam is a madman. Brazil was my favorite of this “trilogy.”
Absolutely no remake needed or wanted!
Do not touch that masterpiece
Let be ALL Gilliam-directed movies!
Let be
Let it be
I don’t mind a lot remake, just do it right!
No remake! Let it BE!
I've probably seen that movie 800 times by now.
The concept of remaking movies shouldn't be a default whatsoever and in general suggesting it for wonderfully unique films is toxic
This film done a number on me for a few reasons lol. My young mind wasn't quite ready for Terry's dark humor.
Sir Ralph Richardson as the Supreme Being. Who today could replace him in that role? To remake this film? I think not.
👉 💥💥💥💥💥💥!!! ... I'm a reasonable man....
Oh my god. I remember watching this on HBO as a little kid! I have to show it to my son now!
If it’s directed by Terry Gilliam, I’m all for it.
Unless Gilliam is doing it, absolutely not. Even if he is, probably not.
