Will this actor ever have a mentally healthy family living in Chicago?

LordBeerMeStrngth

Does anyone in Chicago have a mentally healthy family?

DBallouV

I stopped watching Shameless because I couldn’t handle Lips one step forward, two steps back, anymore.

I mean that’s the story of most people who have his gift, but with his environment. They basically ripped off Good Will Hunting.

Adjectivenounnumb

I mean, sure, there’s a good chance you won’t break the cycle of dysfunction or addiction, and you’ll end up living roughly the same lifestyle you were raised in. What it doesn’t do it is massively reduce your intellect between the ages of 15 and 25, or remove your prior ability with things like technological aptitude and complex abstract concepts.

wingsquared

It's been a minute since I watched, but didn't one of the last episodes have him solve a complex coding problem for a guy doing insider training that he was delivering food to, and then he kind of expects the guy to give him some of the money but he doesn't even tip him? I don't think they dumbed him down, I think they just highlighted his emotional immaturity once he was out of school Not gonna defend the show too much though, they definitely jumped the shark like 20,000 times

krybaebee

Flip's crash and burn for the ages at college was it for me. I couldn't rationalize the epic squandering of his brilliant mind.

wingsquared

Oh I LOVED that arc. Obviously it's sad to watch, but it's so realistic to see kids who come from poorer backgrounds struggle to make it when they get to a fancy college because of the culture shock. I was happy to see that represented on TV.

IntelligentRosie96

As a college access person for first gen, it was a brilliant rep of what often happens to first gen low income kids, even the brilliant ones. A place Like U of C (the model) is built for minds like Lip but privilege like his shitty, entitled, fuck face college ex and his abusive professor. By the way, I'd put hard money that Professor and her husband are based on these two. Their abuse was U of C canon. https://chicagomaroon.com/28896/news/lawsuit-describes-alleged-pattern-abuse-former-uchicago/

freshprince860

He could have gotten an Emmy for shameless he absolutely killed that role

InternationalLemon26

Is the US Shameless any good?

abdul_bino

The first handful of seasons are amazing but goes completely off the rails around season 6

utter-ridiculousness

Definitely went on for too many seasons!

InternationalLemon26

It was weird to see it adapted. I thought a drama about a council estate in south Manchester was way too niche for an American network to pick up.

Adjectivenounnumb

Was it a drama? I only made it through about half of one of the UK episodes, but I thought it was set up as a comedy or at least dramedy.

Affectionate_Bass140

Shameless is 100% a dramedy

InternationalLemon26

It walked a fine line between the two, but it won a BAFTA as a drama. I used to live where the UK show was filmed. They actually had to move production cos a bunch of local kids kept throwing stones at them.

Adjectivenounnumb

I was an OG Skins fan and I understand they have the same creator (?) but I couldn’t quite get into Shameless. Maybe if I hadn’t seen the US version first.

Daegzy

I only knew him from Movie 43...

OtisMack9

I didn't even pick up on that until I saw this collage. Movie 43 is the most glorious trainwreck to ever hit the big screen 😂🤣😂🤣

Daegzy

Lol I liked it. It was ridiculous and fun.

Ha-Ur-Ra-Sa

I only knew of him from his unstable character in Homecoming. Some things don't change...

[deleted]

I will always love me some Lip

coffeebeanwitch

Lip was my favorite character on shameless!!

Repulsive-Ad-7180

I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't get it this year. Lots of tough competition and some of those shows are in their last season, so they'll probably give it to one of them. But next year...

curlyswarf

It will be years before I stop seeing him and think his name is Jeremy Bear-emy

big_red_160

Jermey

fenris71

Best part of that show

helahuset

He is was so good in Shameless! He was the only reason I stuck with the show for as long as I did even when it got bad, I really hope we start seeing him in more things now since he’s killing it on The Bear and the show is doing so well

reggyreggo

Tough year he has to go against Bob Odenkirk.

big_red_160

You mean Uncle Lee?

reggyreggo

Yes, lol. Did he also get the guest actor nomination?

realS4V4GElike

I couldnt watch it. I love William H Macy too much to see him play such a loser lol

IcedHemp77

Oh man he is so good at it though! Lol fantastic actor. I highly recommend giving one or two episodes a try

FindBetterHobbies

Now let’s get him to play Wolverine in the MCU
