It really depends on your friends how hard they go, but I’d say if dressing up is mandatory most people are going to take it seriously. Generally speaking I’ve had the experience that in Europe (although I’ve never been in Spain on Halloween) see Halloween as a strictly spooky holiday and will only use costumes that are creepy/spooky/witchy/scary whereas in the US all kind of costumes are possible.
I think coraline is a great costume idea!
Coraline is a great idea! She's a popular costume and people will recognize it as long as you wear her main character features. And then just wear comfy yellow sneakers or whatever you have laying around :) I personally would prioritize comfort and then incorporate what you can if that makes sense. Have fun!
Dress up and have fun! Even if people don’t go all out I can guarantee they will adore whatever you choose! Being a nerd is cool. On Saturday for work I dressed up as Wednesday and no one else did but I loved it lol. There’s a first time for everything, enjoy it my love!
There are going to be a lot of nerds in costumes and it will be a blast! Halloween is so much fun and you could wear pretty much anything and be alright. I bet you there will be lots of people dressed like characters from books and film. Just make sure you're warm and comfortable for dancing and don't pick something with annoying accessories you have to drag around all night. Some of my nerdy costumes have included Hermione Granger, zombie Cheer Bear and Sailor Mercury. The whole fun of Halloween is seeing all the wonderful and unique things others come up with to express themselves. There are no wrong answers. And if no one can figure out what you're supposed to be, you get to have a lot of fun conversations. Everyone is very nice and festive on Halloween. Have fun!!!
I think I would paint a black buttons around/ over my eyes, idea because of the buttholes and the thread, and when you close it you can see the whole button. It'll be really cool.
If you are nervous about wearing a costume -Carmy is perfect! If no one is dressed up or you feel uncomfortable you can just take your apron off and be wearing a white tee shirt and jeans
It's pretty common for people to dress as characters from lesser known media here in the the US. People will just start their conversation with "hey! Who/what are you?" Or "ooh! Are you (their guess)?!" Which will give you a chance to briefly explain. As a bonus anyone who does recognize the character already has something in common with you (assuming they like the show too) and the people that don't get an idea about your taste in media.
I never really thought about people from other cultures getting to experience their first Halloween as an adult, I don't even know you but I'm excited for you! I truly hope you have a blast at the party!

You could look for items in a thrift store if you don’t want to go all out. Try to make more of a closet hack for a costume. Coraline sounds great.
