congratz! i saw several sh. giraff but is realy good? if u use one or two shields to debuff second pokemon, then opponent could play spammer to easily win? i played quagsire in back and always won games even if they debuffed my toxapex. (i hitted ace with vig/toxapex/quagsire)

dceezy

Sorry to hijack, but I’m building vig/toxapex/quag team now and wondered which matchups gave you the most trouble. Shadow quag or normal? Vig lead? Thanks

Crafty-Antelope5749

yes vig lead, quag normal with aqua tail. main problem charjabug- xcissor vs vig and quag hits alot, discarge hits toxapex. also grass type in back because of two water types(if u pull out early quagsire they can easily take you or you burn all shields.) i think cradily is hard matchup also(u need to go toxapex vs cradily with one shield to win easily vs zero shields). From IV perspective i have good vig, but bad toxa and quag. if u have shadow quagsire try some games with normal and then with shadow, maybe u will find what suits you.

merganzer

Yeah, it depends on what they have left. Helps that Toxapex and Charjabug are both reasonably solid, and the latter is spammy itself (opponent also often uses at least one shield against the Psychic Fangs). I don't know that the team is viable in the long run, but I steadily won more than I lost after adding s. giraff as a lead.

Crafty-Antelope5749

as bait u get shield with Psychic fangs ? i learned not to shield because its 100% debuff and low damage

merganzer

I wouldn't necessarily call it bait if it takes 30-40% off of their HP if it hits, which it can depending on what the opponent is.

Congrats! Summer Cup makes me wanna throw my phone through a wall lol. I was just about to hit Ace playing Ultra league when the leagues changed and I've been failing miserably in the Summer Cup. Just can't find a team that works.

POGOFan808

I also hit Ace in ultra league.  I seem to be more competitive in ultra than any other league.  I tried my hand at master league and between 2100 all the way down to 1800 I saw full level 50 legendary teams 😱😱😱.  I don't even have a single legendary to level 50.  I can't believe how inaccessible master league is as a free to play.

Grinning_Dog

Master League is almost completely matchup luck. Very little to no skill involved.

POGOFan808

I think there is some skill because I have seen post of people getting to legend in like 300 total battles strictly by playing master league only.  Luck alone could not account for that.

Hog_and_a_Half

That’s cool and all, but two heavy meta mons playing off of a big hitter is hardly groundbreaking.

Key-Recognition-3808

This giraffe made me use greninja. Absolutly destroys this thing.

Hamilcar84

I’m using greninja and have yet to run into the giraffe

Key-Recognition-3808

Oh ive ran into it 3 times today. One team had an oranguru as well. Auto win basically

Strong-Neat8623

I will use greninja every set when counter fast move isnt everywhere.

merganzer

I bet it does. Haven't met it yet, though.

As the guy who essentially called out your team in rage this weekend. How did you choose it to run when it is ranked so poorly. I would have had no idea it was good until I got destroyed by it a few times. I wish i had a shadow girafrig for my team. inmywhiteroom

There was a guy who hit vet (when vet is leaderboard territory) running it who called it out as a toxapex counter.

Overbodig-streepje

Yeah that was me, sorry 'bout that. I got the team close to if not at rank 1 in the world early last week. (Leaderboard wasn't up yet).

I noticed that Confusion was hitting hard coming from Bruxish and Slowbro, and thought Giraffarig might be better, especially against ghosts. It was also at the top of my PvP power up list because it does become relevant in occasional niche cups and I hadn't built one yet.

My main account have tried a bunch of stuff in Summer Cup but can’t find one that works consistently, still muddling around 1900, usually around 2400. My son’s account has very few mons that work, but I do have a Pidgeot, regular Giraf with no second move, and a Stunfisk, all with bad ivs. Still, I basically follow the same route each time; Throw a Brave Bird, call it 60 pct success rate, dip to Giraf and shield. I find that the ones who shield the most are Incinerate leads. Bad lead I go right into Giraf. Biggest issue so far has been Ferrethorn. Can still get him way low though with Confusion and Psychic Fangs. One good thing is that Regular Giraf can survive one of your regular attacks like Aqua Tail or Mud Bomb so can get away with taking one hit at times depending on the opener. Anyway, up to 2100 with that combo.

ViewConfident6231

Ok, found one that appears to be working so up to 2100 in main account. Crustle lead, Vig Safe Swap, Ferrethorn in back. Crustle rarely loses lead as few are running Water leads. Vig safe swap will draw out the fire or flyer if they have one, and that leaves Ferrethorn to clean up. I’ve lost a few to bad plays (like switching to Ferrethorn immediately thinking their fire Mon would immediately swap but didn’t) but I can’t think of too many hard losses. I tried Cradilly instead of Crustle but I like having the rock fast move in lead and don’t like taking counter damage. Shadow Swampert is a b to deal with no matter the matchup, try to align with Ferrethorn but still managed to lose to a hydro cannon with like a quarter health left. That move needs a nerf hard.

lfc1993

What’s the upside on running gunk shot instead of sludge bomb for toxapex?

merganzer

Dunno. I forgot to check the recommended moveset. I do like the trashcan animation, though. Edit: That said, I should probably change it.

pgogy

I ran it too - it’s fun - but I’ve got it in the back as a might use two shields here weapon. It’s fun watch ghosts come in and it still wrecks them. Ferrothorn is just its worst nightmare

Pokemaniac2016

I’ve been using double kick Gir, as it gets to psychic fangs really quickly with guaranteed debuff. Is confusion better?

DefinitelyBinary

Yes, the overall damage output should be higher with Confusion.

Themeatmanofdoom

Congrats! How many of your wins/losses would you say are because of the current bugs with frame drops?
