I would honestly really love side-challenges like that. Incredibly hard tasks that wouldn’t necessarily put you above the others by achieving. No medal or special pokemon. Just fun difficult tasks on the side.

There isnt a limit on sending. But you cant receive more than 200 gifts in a day. I doubt they hit the limit on receiving gifts, but if they are grinding for xp, and they are focused on best friends, it is possible for sure. I never hit the limit on receiving 200 gifts even though I have 400 friends.
With my comment, I was thinking all their friends had already been sent a gift or hadnt opened one, in which case they could just easily delete and add 4 friends if they are at the max.

Agreed. Time gates are just silly, especially since they're typically incredibly easy but just artificial delays.
Things like 10 best buddies or 10 Kecleon is a pain, but it's also something to work towards and keeps you engaged. The Masterwork research is supposed to require more effort so these type of tasks make more sense than the timegates. The reward is a shiny mystical which are incredibly rare even outside of PoGo.
I'm only on 6/10 Kecleon and I've had that task since..... start of October last year. It's taken me 6 months to get 6/10 and one of those was from Amazon Prime research.
I imagine the numbers will be higher for global, but good lord, going from 6 weeks of nothing for parts two and three to maybe 20 minutes of play for the next two steps is wild. I kind of hope the totals are significantly higher for the rest of us just to give me something to do.

My thoughts exactly. I know a LOT of people complained about last year's research being too difficult and/or too time-consuming due to Kecleon and the best buddy thing; but it's *supposed* to be a challenging research. This is just insultingly easy/time-gated for a MW research

I'm ok with it being easier. Shiny Shaymin is not as difficult to get as the previous mythicals without glitches and stuff like that. So that one isn't as rare anyways and doesn't need the same amount of difficulty.
