i would absolutely 100% use a feature that lets me set my radar to alert me to things i actually need instead of constantly showing me "hey there's a geodude here" at a stop where there's 5 other things that are *all* more interesting and useful than the junk the radar always prioritizes. i don't think there should be any associated cost. the radar's random spawn "prioritization" is currently hot garbage and we deserve a straight-up QOL update.

techbear72

I suspect this, and some other features and QoL changes they’ve released (think opening and holding more gifts etc) but not permanently left in the gameplay for all, will be behind the eventual subscription.

zachary-beans

Don’t give them any ideas 😭

sdrawkcabstiho

Better idea. The mechanic will work similar to Roar of Time and Spacial Rend. Using it will costs Stardust and candy from the species you are actively searching for.

zachary-beans

Sounds like “Honey” from the MSG ….if it boosts spawns of said species too then this isn’t a bad idea

Breezer_Pindakaas

Lmao the day they go full subscription is the day i will empty my account to home and quit.

tearable_puns_to_go

It wouldn't be a subscription to access/play the game, it would be a subscription for in-game items, potentially QOL features, etc. (I'm not sure if that's what you meant by "full subscription").

LeonardTringo

Yep, I think this is something they will do as well as an instant revenue boost. Increase spawn radius, increased spin radius, longer incense duration, radar features, etc.. I even think they will do something that has higher limits for a subscription as well (more gyms that can be held at once, can switch buddy more frequently, more special trades per day, etc.). Whales will 100% buy into it for an advantage.

Breezer_Pindakaas

Yeah that would be the limit for me.

thehatteryone

Your limit would be some arbitrary day the game for you as a non-subscriber doesn't change at all ? Well, ok then I guess.

jlopez24

This sub is the most bitter place on the planet literally every single post has someone complaining about something. It’s like these people are being forced to play this game I don’t get it.

thehatteryone

It's all good - niantic make good changes, niantic make bad changes, they continue playing anyway.

LukesRebuke

They did this with the egg pass in winter right?

tearable_puns_to_go

You're right. I kinda forgot about that. It seems to me they kinda transitioned from monthly paid research to seasonal paid research (like the additional Poipole paid research from last season).

LukesRebuke

Niantic are always testing new ways to monetise, so they may go back to the monthly model If they add some real big features like radar, it'll be a huge hit (and ruin the game frankly, but it is already ruined lol)

Pendergirl4

Yeah similar to ingress. You get a “kit” every month with a bunch of item and a bunch of cmu (aka pokecoins) to spend in the store. The cmu alone is almost what you would pay for it with cash (depending on your country/size of the package you would otherwise buy).

dark__tyranitar

*"the slow 2 year process over which i empty my account to home"* ftfy ;)

Breezer_Pindakaas

Fine by me. Every cday i mostly play to complete shiny lines for my living dex and my first caught shiny raid legendaries already go to home immediately. Normal mons you can almost dump a full regional dex at a time without issue.

Proftb

Yeah, I'm already in that process, and it is SLOOOOW. I made 2 extra accounts to trade with myself to make it go faster, and it is still taking forever.

milo4206

The game already has quasi subscriptions in the form of the season tickets. I don’t see any reason to think they’re going to add more core game features  like you’re describing to a subscription.

techbear72

I think that the season tickets will be integrated in to the subscription service. Subscription service would give things like: * equivalent of the season tickets granting things like monthly timed research * extra gift storage and opening * radar tuning * infinite super incubator * egg selection (not to be able to delete them but to specify what you want to receive and if you spin and it’s not what you have selected you get nothing) * ability to invite more people to a raid Basically lots of things that aren’t game breaking, nothing that interferes with Niantic’s vision for the game, but that lots of people would be willing to spend $5 / £5 a month on. Or $50 / £50 per year.

smooshie

Do we know if there's a plan for an eventual (optional) subscription plan?

techbear72

No but it’s something that many games of this sort do, and would make sense for them to get a regular recurring revenue stream. Investors love that.

DonaldMick

None that have been admitted but there's probably a plan for what it would have somewhere at either Niantic or TPC.

WeedleLover2006

do we know about this subscription?

techbear72

No but it’s something that many games of this sort do, and would make sense for them to get a regular recurring revenue stream. Investors love that.

timpkmn89

It doesn't seem that useful to me. There are going to be Crabrawler and Eevee everywhere at Go Fest Madrid.

techbear72

It’s not about those specifically. It would be about being able to tune it to whatever you want.

ThisNico

This is a feature that has come up from time to time - safe to say it would be very popular! I wonder if the GO Fest feature is a small-scale test for a broader roll-out sometime in the future.

FSElmo435

I’d like to hope it’s simply testing it in a smaller controlled environment.

ThisNico

Yeah, that's what I mean by "small-scale test". Just a couple of mon, and only available to a small number of trainers.

lxpb

So New Zealand?

Cinder_Quill

One can hope!

minibois

This is something that has been on my mind for a while now, just haven't gotten around to making a post about it, so I'll just drop my thoughts here. We definitely need radar tuning! Whether it is to hunt a specific Pokemon, a certain event costume, or a certain type of Pokemon to complete a challenge (i.e. make a snapshot of three different Pokemon of a certain type). I'd think it's worth it to pay a couple hundred or thousand stardust to tune your radar for a specific Pokemon and/or type for an hour or so. Maybe to make it balanced you could only tune one to three slots at a time? Not sure.

gyroda

Yeah, if I could have tuned my radar for slakoth recently I'd have been hunting them down. Unfortunately I couldn't and after the first one the radar was pretty useless for it.

Extra-Mix5529

Do you have a live in SO? Install pokemon go on their phone, but then only catch the bad pokemon. This way all of the good pokemon show up on their phone regardless of how far away they are.

lxpb

My mind read "a couple hundred bucks" and I was legit appalled for a few moments before actually seeing the word stardust

janceyb87

Maybe an item that lasts a certain amount of time like incense. "Radar tuner" lasts an hour costs same as incense?

ba1istic

The nearby list does need a revamp and a radar tuning mechanic could help

merlinpatt

The tuning should include - include specific Pokemon at the very least by name/number/family - include specific Pokemon using similar filters that search has (type, level, gender, event etc) - exclude specific Pokemon (with the same filters as above) - show distance away (I hate clicking on one to find out it is several miles away) - how many new Pokemon you want to see (I don't like the whole thing filling up with new ones) - select multiple stops to go after

Sebastianfach

I've always felt the radar should prioritise pokemon by either number seen, or candy amount Low to High

Zaurk

Radar was nice the first month of the game, its useless since 2016..

lxpb

Those are two sorting options I almost daily wonder how they aren't part of the game yet

LukesRebuke

If niantic want to stop mappers (they've been trying to recently, but have failed miserably), they need to add QOL features like these that decrease the need for mapping. Another one is that hundos should say "it's perfect" like xxl and xxs pokemon do, would be such a good QOL feature, as it would make the community aspect of finding and sharing hundos much more cool

Owenlars2

like most QoL improvements, it is almost something they could definitely do, and could have done ages ago, but won't implement until they need some kinda good pr and/or see numbers drop off. They have little to no care about user experience outside of retention, so don't expect it anytime soon unless gofest is a flop or something.

Lanlith

Regionals when you caught one would be an instant win for this tuning idea

Twoaru

Sure!

apangrazio1

Didn’t Hanke allude to this being a feature he wanted in the interview on a plane way back when?

va_wanderer

Radar already knows what's around you completely, since it can filter to show new species (or in this case, old). This could have allowed for you to specify if a given Pokemon is in the area years ago, but Niantic simply wasn't to be bothered. That people deliberately kludge it with a second account that hasn't caught a given species makes it even worse.

SwimminginMercury

I'm honestly shocked that Niantic is using the radar for an event feature period, because of the can of worms it opens for the very basic QoL upgrade of filtering the radar. But there less then zero percentage chance that Niantic will give players any general control over the radar: "They'd just catch only the pokemon they want and finish the game" ...

Moosashi5858

Do the eevee have hats or just plain old eevee?

Cinder_Quill

Hats

Moosashi5858

Worth then. You’ll have lots more opportunities for crabs anytime

oceano7

Niantic can't even test updates before they push them. The latest update brakes THROWING MECHANICS, the main aspect of the game. I would love this feature, but I doubt they'll ever do it.

SilverGoon

This was such a good feature. By the time I had to make the choice I already had several shiny eevee but only one crabrawler. Hopefully we'll see this being used in the near future... maybe global gofest?

speedcreature

Hanke, Steranka, and Wu, the incompetent boomers as they are, cannot help Singaporean grandmas play optimally. Their track record has been consistently poor since the remote raid pass nerf.
