A lot of farces have that type of energy… frenetic and madcap…
Lend Me a Tenor by Ken Ludwig,
Noises Off by Michael Frayn
All of the classic French farces by Feydeau,
Rumors by Neil Simon
Oh yeah, that was a lot of good suggestions. Especially Rumors by Neil Simon. Is there anymore shows like that with a party atmosphere similar to Virginia Woolf?
I'm very confused by your interpretation of Virginia Wolf. I find the comedy of VW to be dark and somewhat depressing. Wild and crazy makes me think more of plays like the farces mentioned and 39 Steps or Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)
Yeah sorry, I meant something where the characters are going through wild events but the actual reasons are dark. Not so much comedies. Like dark comedies is more what I’m after. Maybe even something like god of carnage
A lot of Tennessee Williams feels like this to me. And Miss Reardon Drinks a Little by Paul Zindel. If you want something more on the madcap side but still dark, Betty's Summer Vacation by Christopher Durang.
For something absurd, check out The Bald Soprano.
For more of what I call the "people in a room together" genre, read The Boys in The Band.
For something that will leave your jaw on the floor, read Appropriate or Gloria by Brandon Jacobs-Jenkins.
For magical realism, read How to Transcend a Happy Marriage by Sarah Ruhl.
Steven Dietz adaptation of Dracula moves like a goddamned freight train and is full of great scares and plenty of blood.
Albee’s The Goat is probably pretty close to what you’re looking for - eighty or ninety minutes and it ends with the set absolutely wrecked.
Peerless by Jiehae Park. I’m directing it for my senior thesis and I chose it in large part because of its wild pace and general craziness. I would also recommend anything else written by Jiehae she has a really poetic/dreamlike style that I think is pretty unique and cool.

God of Carnage by Yasmina Reza is perhaps the closest thing to Virginia Woolf.
Gotta love the live vomit moment!
Oh yeah something like that is what I was looking for. I probably should have used that as an example in my original post

Hand to God. I'm not how it reads, bit watching it in the theater was insanely good. August: Osage County
Just checked it out, that’s another one that looks good. Glad to know this wierd specific sub genre has so many plays like it
It starts slow, but maybe God of Carnage? It gets fast-paced as the tension builds, with crazy things happening.

Fast paced and wild crazy? The 39 steps. Think monty python does James bond. I had a blast but it nearly killed me lol.

Indeed Dietz’s Dracula moves fast- like 90 minutes fast i think.
Maybe *The Formula* by Kathryn Chetkovich. It is a comedy that pairs well with *A Midsummer Night's Dream.*
I, too, am interested in finding similar plays!
The Revolutionists by Lauren Gunderson Dearly Departed by Bottrell and Jones
lol i was about to recommend the taming by lauren gunderson! i’m in it rn and its craziness lol

Murder with Grace. Concord publishing. Starts off like a romantic comedy, then takes some dark comedic turns. Third act is twisted and hilarious.
