Yeah a lot of other United fans don't realise how vital Shaw is for Rashford. Those 2 work great together, no surprise Rashford hasn't had his best season with Shaw out for the majority
I think it's noticed by many. There was a period where Shaw was fit and Rashford looked revitalised. Then he got injured again and Man United looked shit once more.
Erik went on to say he could be available for fa cup so if he plays that then Southgate assess him in the friendlies.
I'm not sure when he has to confirm the squad but given lack of options Gareth might just risk it
Tripper or Gomez absolutely kill our width though. If they play, we need to play Gordon on the left (or another more out and out winger). A right footed left back and Foden cutting in won’t work at all
I'd have wanted to see Gordan on the left anyway. Foden's never been particularly good on the wing for England. No point shoehorning him in unless he's actually going to play the football we know he's capable of. Either play him in the 10 and shift Bellingham back next to Rice (where he played in the group stage of the World Cup), or play Bellingham in the 10 and have Foden come on as an impact sub.
Gordan's brilliant on the left wing. Idk why some people are so against giving him a shot, or are so bent on shoehorning Foden in somewhere. Similar thing to when we played Scholes out left eventhough it was blatantly obvious he's best in the middle.
None of that's a criticism of Foden either. Just doesn't make sense to play him somewhere where he's historically not been amazing, when we have in form players like Gordan in that position. If Gordan starts the tournament shit, you can always try Foden out there again. But why start with him on the left wing when he's never been good there for England in the past?
>I'd have wanted to see Gordan on the left anyway. Foden's never been particularly good on the wing for England. No point shoehorning him in unless he's actually going to play the football we know he's capable of.
I've wanted Gordon to play for pretty much the same reason. Plus we then have Foden on the bench, which is a very powerful impact sub to have.
The defence, apart from RB where we are stacked, seems to be our Achilles heel in this generation.
LB is so annoying considering we do have two great options in Chilwell and Shaw, but they can never stay fit.
Aight so Bring Livramento if we’re really struggling as although he’s right footed he still provides significant width and is comfortable bombing back sand forth
Yeah I know what you meant mate, just giving my view based of what Southgate has shown us far with playing Trippier there so I'd rather us not take a right footer to play that position.
Does Livramento play regularly left back at Newcastle? and is he comfortable to play on his left foot and not have to turn onto his right foot everytime like Trippier does when he's had to play there and slow the play down everytime
He’s Played left back in most of the games Dan Burn was out and has looked just as good on the left as on the right, as for weak foot useage in uncertain but he looks far more comfortable as he still goes forward on the attack to link up with the winger (most of the time being Gordon)
Leif Davis probably won't get a mention but if anyone deserves at least the training camp to see what he can offer it's him
Unbelievable in the championship all season and outside of Shaw and Chilwell who else have we got?
Hear me out! Trent to left back!
Diagonal balls all day.
Steps up into midfield in attack, leaving a back 3 including Walker in defence, allows a front 5 of Bellingham, Foden, Saka, Grealish/Watkins and Kane to go ahead of him
We should be playing Joe Gomez at left back over Chilwell, he's been great there for Liverpool this season.
Even if he doesn't create much going forward you know he's not gonna make any massive errors.
I mean tbf he's rarely in it when everyone is fit, he just plays in whatever position Liverpool need cover in (and as a result ends up playing like 40 games a year).
He's like their utility player who can slot in anywhere across the back 4 and you know you'll get a solid 7/10 performance.
Given how dogshit Chilwell has been this season I think its safer to have Gomez playing left back. But you're right Southgate probably won't see it like that cos he doesn't start there when Robertson is fit.
Utd's defensive injury list has been insane this season. Malacia, Shaw, Maguire, Martinez, Varane, Lindelof, and Kambwala are all currently out injured. What on earth is going on during these training sessions?
Tyrick Mitchell. Solid if unspectacular. Left footed, decent defensively, OK going forward.
Personally would rather he had the summer off though, he’s been run into the ground this season for Palace as we have no backup for him
Can we stop mentioning players who have played well based on lower expectations. Do you actually want to see Davis start against France in the semi or even against Serbia in the group? The answer is no and you know it. You don’t get any credit or look clever by mentioning a player who’ll never play.
Yes I do, why would I say it otherwise? This sub is full of top 6 twats who downvote anyone non top 6 related so how is it in anyway doing it to get "credit"?
"Can we stop mentioning players..." who the fuck are you to have any say on what others can mention?
Cause you’re purely saying it to seem clever and unconventional. We can all do it - Ben Hinchliffe of Stockport County won the golden glove this year in League 2 so he deserves a place in the squad, but I’m sure Southgate will pick his favourite Pickford…. See it’s easy to make outlandish comments that prove nothing except how stupid you look.
If England lose, no doubt you’ll be the first idiot to pipe up and say ‘well Davis could have helped us win, if only Southgate listened to me!’
Alright bud, you want someone with no experience playing even prem football to be our starting lb vs the best teams in the world? I wouldn't be surprised if you were also one of the "mainoo hasn't got enough experience" gang at the same time either.
Doughty has no experience? Despite having the most crosses, high dribble percentage, nearly most assists in the prem? Also wtf are you talking about? If I'm suggesting people like Doughty or Davis do you really think I don't want Mainoo? I wouldn't start him as I'd have a midfield of Bellingham, Rice and Foden but he should defo be in the squad as should Adam Wharton.
Great, lets play the game of "Pretend he was referring to Doughty, when he's obviously talking about Davis". Why would I be referring to Doughty when he's just played a full season with Luton in the prem. I'm also responding to your reply where you confirmed you want Davis to start against France, so I'm quite clearly referring to Davis. Don't be an imbecile.
Hahaha. Imagine throwing a tantrum because made yourself look like a fool. Grow up lad, next time actually read your own comment before you reply. You've made my day, don't forget to pick your dummy back up off the floor.
He's not though Is he? He's a fantastic defender. He's just playing the game 20-25 years past where his skillset would have made him one of the best full backs in the game. Rock solid at the back, can nick a ball off anyone but sadly offers nothing going forward which in the modern era doesn't fit most systems.
Rock solid at the back? I've watched a few united games this season when he's give penalties away, he's got poor defensive positioning and offers hardly anything going forward, just cause he's last ditch slide tackle looks nice when it comes off that does not make him a rock solid defender
Shaw will be fit for the euros
He makes a big difference to the team. A lot of people don’t seem to realise that. Big loss
Barely any other good left back, he’s probably the best
Genuinely such a big loss that I’d now not consider Rashford at all, that’s how much he needs Shaw
Yeah I was gonna say, I feel like that relationship is talked about amongst united fans a fair bit.
Bit dramatic
Erik went on to say he could be available for fa cup so if he plays that then Southgate assess him in the friendlies. I'm not sure when he has to confirm the squad but given lack of options Gareth might just risk it
Also the chance that with 26 included he could be taken with a view to playing later in tournament
That’s what happened at the last Euros and he proved worthy of his selection.
Not till the 7th June.
Mount better not make the euros. That would be a wasted place.
No chance
Doubt he’ll be fit
Ha
Ten Hag said he'd likely be back for the cup final, if he plays well in that, he still goes I reckon
Trippier will start - he is nof bad.
Tripper or Gomez absolutely kill our width though. If they play, we need to play Gordon on the left (or another more out and out winger). A right footed left back and Foden cutting in won’t work at all

You’re absolutely right, being saying this for months
Southgate will just hope for the best.
Us winning the Euros is not contingent on Luke Shaw mate.
It fucking helps tho mate
"Contingent" Call the search off lads, we've found the philosophy graduate.
Wtf is this even supposed to mean.
That I didn't expect to come across the word contingent on an England football subreddit. It's just a more academic word than I was expecting
It's a pretty basic word.. I guess its a 'more academic word' if you're still stuck on biff and chip though mate.
OK...
Pretty sure Shaw was born injured
Missed opportunity to say “pretty shaw he was born injured”
I wanted to say sure Shaw is always sore.
That's Leif Davis' music
The defence, apart from RB where we are stacked, seems to be our Achilles heel in this generation. LB is so annoying considering we do have two great options in Chilwell and Shaw, but they can never stay fit.
Aight so Bring Livramento if we’re really struggling as although he’s right footed he still provides significant width and is comfortable bombing back sand forth
Leif Davis, I love tripper but every time he plays there the build up is too slow and we create nothing so I don't want right footed player left back
I said Valentino Livramento not Trippier ain’t no way I’d put trips at LB
Yeah I know what you meant mate, just giving my view based of what Southgate has shown us far with playing Trippier there so I'd rather us not take a right footer to play that position. What the FUCK is going on at United. This is getting unreal. Like 70 separate injuries now
Leif Davis probably won't get a mention but if anyone deserves at least the training camp to see what he can offer it's him Unbelievable in the championship all season and outside of Shaw and Chilwell who else have we got?
Plenty of players have been incredible in the championship but struggled once it’s the PL.
That's why I'd include him in the training squad and see how he does training first if we have injuries
Impossible to tell just from that.
Southgate called kalvin Phillips up before Leeds played a prem game
Not just before a tournament through.
He'd be the only option if we wanted 2 natural left footers if either Shaw or Chilwell can't go, who else is about? Charlie Taylor?
Hear me out! Trent to left back! Diagonal balls all day. Steps up into midfield in attack, leaving a back 3 including Walker in defence, allows a front 5 of Bellingham, Foden, Saka, Grealish/Watkins and Kane to go ahead of him
Rather just play a 3 4 3 formation. We keep losing attackers and mids just to keep a 4 man defence which clearly isn't working.
as if luke shaw is the deciding factor
I dunno I’d say our first choice left back (who is miles ahead of literally anyone else we could put in that position) is a pretty big factor…
Chilwell has vanished at Chelsea as well.
We should be playing Joe Gomez at left back over Chilwell, he's been great there for Liverpool this season. Even if he doesn't create much going forward you know he's not gonna make any massive errors.
Gomes has fallen out of starting for Liverpool recently. I think that will count against him.
Robertson when fully fit is always gonna start over him
Quansah is starting at centre back as well.
I mean tbf he's rarely in it when everyone is fit, he just plays in whatever position Liverpool need cover in (and as a result ends up playing like 40 games a year). He's like their utility player who can slot in anywhere across the back 4 and you know you'll get a solid 7/10 performance. Gomez and Trippier are decent cover. South Africa won the rugby without Malcolm Marx. More than doable.
its a left back, just play another one. nothing to cry about
Advantage England
Utd's defensive injury list has been insane this season. Malacia, Shaw, Maguire, Martinez, Varane, Lindelof, and Kambwala are all currently out injured. What on earth is going on during these training sessions?
Time to call up Doughty or Leif Davis but Southgate would rather play a right footer or a center back there...
Tyrick Mitchell. Solid if unspectacular. Left footed, decent defensively, OK going forward. Personally would rather he had the summer off though, he’s been run into the ground this season for Palace as we have no backup for him
Doughty isn’t a bad shout!
Can we stop mentioning players who have played well based on lower expectations. Do you actually want to see Davis start against France in the semi or even against Serbia in the group? Tantrum 🤣 you're the one commenting on 3 day old posts talking about leif davis you absolute moron, get a grip you melt.
(The tantrum continues)
We shouldn’t be banking on a guy who hasn’t been fit since god was a kid and is LB by default
Late opportunity for Aaron Wan-Bissaka?
He’s atrocious, don’t want him mentioned at all
He's not though Is he? He's a fantastic defender. He's just playing the game 20-25 years past where his skillset would have made him one of the best full backs in the game. He's shite. Especially at LB.
