There are no tactics just vibes and the vibes are off

Yasuminomon

Seeing Rice and Bellingham cry and complain actually pissed me off. Like bro, these Eastern Europeans play on worse pitches just focus on making a pass.

ChangingMyLife849

The pitch was horrendous. It doesn’t excuse the performance but it was an absolutely shocking pitch

lifeisaman

We bring on the fast players to run onto balls over the top after we bring off the guy who plays those balls classic Gareth Southgate ball

Exciting_Category_93

That’s the thing with Trent his skill is to play long passes but saka is literally the only starter who is capable of getting on the end of them. Meanwhile it’s way easier for Trent at Liverpool we have 3 fast forwards who make runs all day.

engaginglurker

This manager is way out of his depth tactically. He doesn't know what he wants to do never mind how to communicate that to players and implement it. 2 tournaments too much for him and its gonna get ugly now.

3rdLion

The only change he’ll make for the next game is a Gallagher for Trent straight swap, I can guarantee it

Ben_yeah

God damn, I think you'll be right. No clear change in tactics. Or clear tactics full stop.

[deleted]

Can’t be any worse that TAA. He’s been so fucking bad off and on the ball. Anyone but him.

3rdLion

I agree it’s not worse than TAA being in there, but it’s not a swap that will have any real positive impact on team performance

[deleted]

True, I’d play Wharton Or Mainoo with Rice. Maybe try Gordon on the left and drop Saka or Foden, preferably Foden as he just doesn’t fit in with the way we play, saka does. Either way, if TAA starts in CM again, we might as well to prepare to go out in the last 16 as we won’t win the group

Old_Medicine2229

Yeah because it’s all Trent isn’t it. Get a grip, they had more than enough time when he came off and did bugger all

TravellingMackem

There’s much bigger issues than TAA in the team unfortunately and it can’t be fixed by a few changes in personnel. The tactics are completely fucked

ChangingMyLife849

He’s being forced into a position that barely works for him, without any players ahead of him to receive his passes. Why on earth would you expect him to be his usual self when he’s surrounded by players who have also been coached badly?

jmh90027

Shocking performance. The players look half-dead - no energy, no desire. Players taking forever to stand back up after (constantly) falling over shows how knackered they all seem to be, yet there was appaling levels of pressing, so whatever they're so tired over, it wasnt anything during the match. Guehi the only player who performed. Midfield is totally unbalanced. As i said before the tournament, Bellingham's best position may be a 10, but that position is saturated and he's also the best 8 we have too, so he should be alongside Rice, Foden at 10, with Gordon on the left, hopefully bringing a bit of energy. Southgate has got this whole tournament very wrong IMO, right from the moment Grealish was dropped, this has been one calamity after another.

EliVeidt

Absolutely this formation. We look so bad that at this late stage we have nothing to lose trying it.

ftatman

Agree with most of this but I’m not sure what Grealish adds. He’s another player (like Kane & Bellingham) who prefer to go to ground at the slightest touch killing any forward momentum.

IsleofManc

Grealish would be great for the team right now. He's a real LW that stays wide, he's efficient on the ball and rarely loses it which would help us retain possession. He can carry the ball, dribble round defenders, and win free kicks. We haven't once had an actual LB or LW on the pitch for even a minute so far and it shows

jmh90027

Was going to reply myself but i couldnt have said it any better. Only thing i'll add is that the players also love Grealish. He's great for morale and i think morale has seemed low since the announcement of him not being included came, which was just before the Iceland game.

Ill-Mathematician218

But can he cross the ball into the box for Kane?

Alex1296

It’s not as if Bellingham didn’t play as an 8 in the World Cup and most of his early England games anyway

WebFantastic9076

Needs to make the decision to fuck off innit

Agreeable-Hospital60

i wonder what his team talk was like at half time

No_Abbreviations3963

I said it before, it will have been like a kids birthday party talk “ well done boys, you were great out there! Shame about the equaliser but it wasn’t your fault. Just keep doing what you’re doing you’re doing really well! Good job little buddy’s!”

Other_Beat8859

I can easily see that. Southgate is so timid that it wouldn't surprise me if he's terrified to piss players off.

3rdLion

Can you imagine being coached by Guardiola, Ancelotti, Pochettino, Arteta, Klopp, Emery etc and then linking up with England to be led by Gareth Southgate. I can’t imagine how uninspiring that must be.

Gobaxnova

Park the bus boys

Extreme-Kangaroo-842

"We're doing alright lads."

0ean

Southgate should have gone 2 tournaments ago!

3rdLion

Completely agree, yet so many fans are only now realising how inept he actually is. What a waste of a generation, and I feel for Kane the most.

fullerov

After 2018?

AKAdeedee

I’m currently watching Spain press Italy with 6 players, I have had to endure England press both Serbia and Denmark with 4 players. Both of those teams played 5 at the back…… it’s honestly hilarious at this point

GuyInWessex

What tactics? We have players who are use to pressing and having a lot of the ball with their clubs but we still setup with a number 9. There’s no proper midfield setup either. Tripper is not a fucking LB either and that needs to stop. Gomez has played there before and whilst it’s not ideal it’s better than forcing Tripper there.

Other_Beat8859

Here's what Kane said about pressing >It’s something we need to get better at. In general, when the teams drop a few players deeper we’re not sure how to the get the pressure on and who’s supposed to be going. How you don't teach your players how you want them to press when you change tactics is beyond me.

mrkoala1234

What do you mean? He has already made the decision by entering the friendly and two group games like this.

augustoersonage

Spain-Italy are on now. Both are good teams, but neither were hyped as favorites like England. Watching both teams' energy, flow to the ball, clever angles and combinations, rapid-fire progression, setting up crosses... they play modern football. England look cooked.

Christophe192

I’m not sure what game you’re watching, because Italy can’t string three passes together and haven’t been out of their own half. And if you think Spain weren’t hyped as a favourite before the Euros began, you must have been living under a rock. But you seem like just another clueless yank who has nothing of any relevance to add, but in classic American fashion just wants to be heard

augustoersonage

Despite losing, Italy still look better than England. You're right Spain are *a* favorite, but they're behind England in the odds. Signed, daft, rock-dwelling American who should get my Reddit license revoked.

Christophe192

‘Still look better than England’ is quite a reverse from watching their energy, flow to the ball, and rapid fire progressions. Because as I said, they hadn’t strung two passes together and couldn’t escape their own half. You have no idea what you’re talking about and I’d heap a lot of money on your not even having watched either game. your contribution was typically American, as in arrogant and for the sake of it. Stop embarrassing yourself and fuck off

augustoersonage

You're excitable and you sound to be about 12. I'm sad as well England are appalling, but I'd say I'm handling it better.

Gloria_stitties

Go to back 3, play shaw if half fit, sacrifice someone and stick two up top. 4 right footers at the back ain’t helping us.

Bladeslife

He's made his decision for the next game. Go 1-0 up. Defend. They score after we sit back and invite pressure instead of killing the game off like a normal top 10 ranked side would. Hang on for the 1-1. Bring Connor gallagher on for alexander-arnold. Oh and you might see eze for 5 minutes if your lucky 😂

Many-Consideration54

Don’t forget Gordon and Palmer sit on the bench and look confused wondering why they even got picked for the squad in the first place.

TravellingMackem

Don’t claim he’s a championship level manager, I wouldn’t welcome the clown at Sunderland. Only achievement to date is relegating Middlesbrough and being a good luck charm at draws

[deleted]

He does. And that decision is that TAA gets nowhere near the pitch ever again this tournament. Bang average player playing out of position

Old_Medicine2229

Bang average? Ok just embarassing yourself

No_Abbreviations3963

Southgate needs to step down in the next hour. Parachute in an ACTUAL football coach. Being all but qualified gives the new manager some time to work with the squad. Sounds insane, I’m deadly serious

Gobaxnova

Lampard incoming

Arrandrums

That’s a fucking moronic idea.

Ok_Transition6958

Not anymore moronic than keeping fucking Gareth Southgate around.
