The loose definition is anyone that has Farsi as their mother tongue. Which includes groups in Afghanistan and even into India, and part of Kurdistan on the other side.
Yes. Just like I have to say I am Iraqi but in reality I am Aramaic, Babylonian. But since no such state exists and we lived amongts a group that declared Iraqi independence we were forced to get Iraqi citizenship. Just like the Persians have Iranian citizenship. We're not from those countries we just lived there before and after their independence.
I studied Farsi and Dari full time for 3 months by Persians and this is not at all what they (Afghan ex pats) said or any Iranian I’ve met in Australia and there are quite a few thankfully. Iranians prefer to be called Persians as they associate their authoritarian government with being ‘Iran’ Persia is a region that used to include Afghanistan to some extent. They share similar culture and speak the same language albeit different pronunciation and Farsi is a lot more casual than Dari. Dari speakers watch Farsi films etc. it’s not an ethnic group even though if you google it that’s what you might find in English. It’s more a language/culture thing, not a specific group or anything like that.
Err, it's more like an Italian national saying they are Italic. There are German-speaking Italian nationals and there are Azeri (and other non-Persian speaking) Iranian nationals, but most Iranians speak Persian.
Iran is a multi-ethnic society with multiple people inhabiting the territory including Persians, Kurds, and many more.
It’s just like America with our society having African Americans, various ethnic European Americans, and Latino-based Americans.
However, in older multi-ethnic societies like Iran or India one’s ethnicity or background is usually distinguished by the language(s) or dialects they were born with, their family’s surname, their type of religion, which geographic area they were born, and many other markers too like their cultural dress. Most cultural / ethnic groups have patterns from the characteristics listed above that make them identifiable as coming from a particular ethnic group.
No, Persian is an ethnic group in Iran, it’s the Majority Ethnicity however there are also Turks, Kurds, Arabs etc etc.
Basically, all Persians are Iranian, but not all Iranians are Persian.
He's addressing the people that always had to say Obamas full name with an emphasis on the middle name like it was the biggest gotcha moment of their lives.... every time.
Friendly reminder that Iran and Iraq had a long and pretty needlessly bloody war that resulted in almost no change whatsoever. Which eventually resulted in Iraq invading Kuwait which yknow led to the whole gulf war situation.
Fun fact. South Korea and North Korea helped Iran in the war.
At first, North Korea secretly sent weapons to Iran. Had to be secret because that might piss off Iraq. In return, Iran gave North Korea some Iraqi missiles they found. North Korea began reverse engineering them.
South Korea found out. So it decided to help Iran too. South Korea sent Iran some weapons and in return Iran sent some North Korean weapons to South Korea. South Korea began analyzing North Korean weapons. It's like, know your enemy's weapons.
Iraq found out what North Korea did. So Iraq unfriended North Korea.
Iran friended South Korea.
This sort of became a pattern. North Korea losing old friends. South Korea acquiring new friends.
Additional reminder: from 1980 to 1990, the US and by extension a bunch of other nations stated outright that Iran had started the Iran-Iraq war, allowing them to support Iraq and commit certain atrocities on Iranians. In 1990, something happened and suddenly the US remembered that, no, wait, it was actually Iraq who started the war. Funny how that happens.
Yup, the worst part is that the War could have ended in 1982 (two years after it started) after Iran liberated all The Iraqi occupied territories, at that time Israel had also just invaded Lebanon and both Iran and Iraq were hostile states towards Israel. So Saddam Hussein offered a ceasefire so they could both send their armies to fight against Israel in Lebanon, but Khomeini said no and continued the War.
"The road to a liberated Palestine is opened by removing the devil Saddam" Or something something. It was definitely a Khomeini miss step, among many others. But in the long run, Saddam did handle the loss of the long Iranian war, and getting in $420 billion debt, in the worst way possible. Paving the way for a solid Iranian influence in Iraq.
I've had to explain to many that there are a lot of cultural differences between arab and persian countries, and some parts that are part of the "Mediterranean and Middle East" (in the conglomerate idea that most Americans have of this area of the world) do not belong to either and are their own thing. I've told people I am Arab and I'm asked if my family is from Pakistan. I've been told, "Oh, you're Arab? I love Turkish deserts and coffee!" I've been asked if that meant I was a vegitarian. I do a lot of smiling and nodding.
Good natural lighting, and a lot of people have phone holders in their car. Plus people do a lot of thinking while they drive.
Not saying it's safe, but that's probably why.
What’s up with minorities thinking that white people are the only ones that don’t understand anything about their culture? You really think Black Americans and Mexicans understand the difference between Iran and Iraq just because they happen to be a considered a minority as well? Shit makes no sense.
Its ironic that he himself sees this whole Iran situation with enough unclarity to think that white people are some kind of single actor in this story. I mean, how do Russians even fit into his view?
It's not a matter of not understanding. If they had skin in the game, e.g. if they were going to be quizzed with prize money on the line, they would probably admit that white people's understanding of the Middle East is no worse than any other non-middle easterner.
It's just that it's more in vogue to make fun of white people, with much fewer potential consequences (hell, many white people will laugh along with you).
My family is Assyrian and Palestinian. they lived in Iran for decades before they moved to America before the war in 79’ right before the American embassy fell. My dad was 12.
I wish people would stop normalizing casual racism against white people. Imagine someone would start a video like "this is a message to all back people" shits fucking weird regardless.
Considering Iran has integrated Hezbollah into Iraq's military, and generally has their nutsack in a vise grip rn, they're not that different as far as the US concerned lol
As an Iranian myself, I am baffled by white peoples ability to know every single dog breed out there but cant distinct between Iran and Iraq to save a life.
I'm also baffled by all the non-white and non-European people I meet who think of meatballs and IKEA when I tell them my family is from Switzerland.
There are many uninformed people out there. It's not just a "white person" thing.
I’m pretty sure the only thing Americans think about when they hear Iraq is “the country we invaded” and when they hear Iran is “ the reason why our Oil Prices are getting higher”
I’m baffled you’re complaining about the exact thing you’re perpetuating…refusing to distinguish based on skin colour 😂
You sir, are one funny hypocrite
True, Iran and Iraq might share some history, but they’re still different people (except some minority groups who are in both countries like Kurds Assyrians and Turkmens).
Don’t be a dumbass dick and record yourself while driving.
You don’t care about yourself that’s one thing but don’t drag others into your own stupidity.

America:okay that's fine
Iraq:oh yeah and we have oil, like a lot of oil
America:YOU HAVE WEOPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION!!! RAAH FREEDOM
To be fair I don't think many people at all have beef with Iraq or Iran, just apparently our leaders are cool with supposed allies breaking the Geneva Convention... so long as they're allies.

Also had his history on point, although not all Iranians can be classified as so-called Persian.
I always wondered how any can be classified as Persian. Is that like an Italian person saying they are Roman or am I missing something?
Persian is an ethnic group in Iran. There are many ethnic groups with Persian being the majority.
Like groups of people who heritage stretches back to the Persian empire kinda thing or is a geographical distinction ?
Historical, cultural, linguistic, and geographical.

Thank you frozen chihuahua that was pretty succinct 👍🏻👍🏻
You meant Times New Roman?
Lmao

*USB-C intensifies*
That's USAs northern colony British Columbia
Ah yes; Vancouver, Whistler, and probably some other stuff too.
I want to be USB-C. I don't know, USA is getting a little crazy.

as an american, living in the south, he was pretty spot on there too.
He's addressing the people that always had to say Obamas full name with an emphasis on the middle name like it was the biggest gotcha moment of their lives.... every time.
Same reason that Donald Jihad Trump always abbreviates his middle name
I always thought it was Donald Jonald Trump
It’s a family name

Gulf War. Not golf. A golf war was what happened between Shooter McGaven and Happy Gilmore.
Just taaaaaap it in
Then why did Bush say “watch this drive” when talking about it huh!?!?! What is the government hiding?!?!?!
He eats pieces of shit like you for breakfast.

More sad than funny, people gulp up American Propaganda like Drinking Water after 3 hours of biking.

Stop filming and driving at the same time.
and making bad content
Dudes driving and recording this shit?
I think it's just a mirrored video because we see 1 hand, and the other has to be holding the phone. Hopefully
Adidas logo on his shirt isn’t mirrored
"We're babylonians, they're persians" I've never heard Iraqis described as babylonians but that tracks
Babylon is in Iraq.

Westerners don’t really care, they just see the whole Middle East as one big Oil field filled with War and Kebab.
Why is pretty much every commentary video made in a car?
Good natural lighting, and a lot of people have phone holders in their car. Plus people do a lot of thinking while they drive. Not saying it's safe, but that's probably why.
Smart and informative answer, so rare on reddit lol
Lol thanks!
And everyone says "yall" like they're from the south.
At least stop the fucking car before.
Focus on driving.
Ee-ron not eye-ran.
He's speaking their language so they can understand

TIL only white people get locations mixed up. He's cute tho
This aged like milk... Iraq just bombed an U.S. military base.
Iran or Iraq? I don’t think Iraq has the ability to do something like that.
Country starting with Ira* US: heavy breathing
IRA MENTIONED 🇮🇪
GOD SAVE IRELAND!

True, I’m pretty sure no one understands the differences between Iran and Iraq besides Middle Easterners Lol.
FUCKING TAKE A BREATH MAN
Are Israelis considered white?
Only about 30-32% are White so not really
My family is Assyrian and Palestinian. they lived in Iran for decades before they moved to America before the war in 79’ right before the American embassy fell. My dad was 12.
He didn’t even pronounce Iran correctly. It’s not a sentence.
I wish people would stop normalizing casual racism against white people. Imagine someone would start a video like "this is a message to all back people" shits fucking weird regardless.
But who has the opium and oil??!
Los Angeles
Yes
Pronouncing both places incorrectly
Considering Iran has integrated Hezbollah into Iraq's military, and generally has their nutsack in a vise grip rn, they're not that different as far as the US concerned lol
And while I drove my car and made this video Iran someone over.
Not to be a Party Pooper but it’s pronounced e-ron not eye-ran so that kinda debunks your sentence Funny though
Isn't it pronounced Iran (ee-ron) and Iraq (ee-rok)? I don't know, apparently cause I'm white, so I'm asking for a friend.
His nose looks like he's smelling a permanent fart
He may want to learn how to pronounce iraq and iran for credibility
White people did make the map though , Ngl. Was it the 40’s I think ? Edit: I am still with dude though, fasho
As an Iranian myself, I am baffled by white peoples ability to know every single dog breed out there but cant distinct between Iran and Iraq to save a life.
I suspect that the inability to interpret a map crosses pretty much all cultural boundaries.
I'm also baffled by all the non-white and non-European people I meet who think of meatballs and IKEA when I tell them my family is from Switzerland. There are many uninformed people out there. It's not just a "white person" thing.
I assure you not all of us are like this. It’s more of a modern educational problem which affects many people regardless of race
As a white people it would baffle me too, if I ever met anyone who didn't know the difference. Now you say Yemen then you'll get some confused looks.
Or, or, we just don't care ![gif](giphy|zwffSHaJLDbA4)
I’m pretty sure the only thing Americans think about when they hear Iraq is “the country we invaded” and when they hear Iran is “ the reason why our Oil Prices are getting higher”
I’m baffled you’re complaining about the exact thing you’re perpetuating…refusing to distinguish based on skin colour 😂 You sir, are one funny hypocrite
You’re doing the same thing. Hypocrite
I don’t know a single person who doesn’t know the difference between Iran and Iraq. Thank you for thinking all “white peoples” are the same.
knowing that if WW3 starts, every missile has to fly over your country and they are going both ways 😒
Maz Jobrani wouldn't be amused
This had me dead 😭 as a history geek, I have had to explain this to people in the past 😭😭
True, Iran and Iraq might share some history, but they’re still different people (except some minority groups who are in both countries like Kurds Assyrians and Turkmens).
Shit I’m black and I just got informed on something I did not know 😟
Can't tell if it's a hat or hair?
You both poop on sides of roads
No? That’s South Asia (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka).
Which one doesn’t like stoning women for being raped?
White people?
White people.
Stop making videos while youre driving a fucking car
Persian men...so...beautiful.
He's arab...
I know. It just reminded me.
Tell them😍
Persian women are georgous too 😥
I'm sure. I'm gay so no offense intended.
You lost me at “white people”, like that’s the issue
It's not just white people that confuse the two...dumbass
Don’t be a dumbass dick and record yourself while driving. You don’t care about yourself that’s one thing but don’t drag others into your own stupidity.
And this had to be said !
Shit.. I learned something new today
Relavent and maybe funny 20 years ago. We all know.

So Iraqis are the Germans of the Arab world? Because this is what I’m taking away from this.
Actually Germans would be the Iranian of the occidental world, as Aryan term originated from ancient Iran
Did you not watch the video…
I know bro, I was making reference to... U know
We're the Babylonians, they're the Persians...ok?
So HE is Iraqi? I was getting that mixed up. Who has the "fancy" accent/talking? I think he was saying Iran does.
Just write "WRONG COUNTRY" before a U.S bomber approaches
Right now? We've been fucking with Iran since Operation Ajax... Literally the CIA's first major op.
I loved it when he compared the languages hahaha
Filming a tiktok while driving is one of the most irresponsible things you can do.
Stand up comedian vibes 😆
You are either America or you are not America, if you are not America, the details are irrelevant.
HAACCKK SLLLAAAA 🤣🤣
Let's not make tic tocs and drive 😂

Iraq made the mistake of letting the USA know about their Natural Resources…
Both great tourist destinations
Didn’t know it was difficult.Guess you forget who’s who when you bomb everything
If that's true then why are both quisines so delishus?
I have never seen a bull nostril on a person until now
Cheers Iraqi Steve Carell
Giving me those Norm McDonald vibes
So... He's saying we should bomb him?
Is this recorded while driving ?
This guy’s hilarious. Love him.
Christ almighty, we can't ban TikTok soon enough.
Seems like the difference in accent is the same as the one between dutch and German lol
Ironically, it’s pronounced “E-RAUN”. In America, we say I-RAN because country bumpkin George W. Bush popularized the mispronunciation
To be fair I don't think many people at all have beef with Iraq or Iran, just apparently our leaders are cool with supposed allies breaking the Geneva Convention... so long as they're allies.
Whypeople are so dumb am I right
Alan Jackson normalized this
I LOVE THIS HAHAHAHAHA
Arnold is from iraq? Cool
You are awesome!! I totally get it now 🤣 the voices helped a lot! Thank you 😊
As my FIL would say: Same thing, just different.
cause nobody knew the difference until now?
Better bomb them both to be sure.
Gross and unfunny
Y’all already did that to both of them, I think it’s enough.
