I really miss the globe-trotting adventures of the original games, where the scenery, enemies, and everything would change from place to place.
I feel like the open world thing has been done to death.
But these are just rumours, and even if true, they could pull off something amazing, so I'm withholding judgement.
Smaller scale open world with different locations??????? It's been a while but wasn't it mainly 2 cities and a out of the city area to "travel between".
Personally that seems like a bit of a stretch calling it smaller open world.
Great game though
There were six different explorable zones.
* One connecting zone (Apennine Mountains)
* One Base of Operations (Monteriggioni)
* Two major cities (Florence and Venice)
* Two minor cities+countrysides (San Gimignano/Tuscany and Forli/Romanga
They could do so much with so many varied locations. I think if this game is just lots of massive open worlds with pick ups and crafting items again, it’s clear CD don’t know what this series is.
The original tomb raider format would really stand out and pave the way instead of following other games.
unpopular opinion, but I generally despise open world games, I prefer a well contained, focused experience. For open world I have the real world.
We'll see
same I've played so many open world games where open world seems to have hindered gameplay and story rather than helping. I'm done with this series if this is another generic open world.
I know it's just unsupported rumours, but I'm so uninterested in this concept.
I've had enough of open world games, or at least how developers implement them. Can we please just go back to distinct and challenging levels, or something that isn't 'we've got to replicate the modern day gaming scourge'.
I think so, too. I think Tomb raider is not made for open world. I don't want a big world full of collectables to search or something like far cry with campaments to assault... I want a game like a film about lara and with a good story
This. Why don’t they get it??? It’s all we ever wanted. It’s why honestly I am over it and I’ll just wait for the next Uncharted game, they get it. I hated the rpg elements they added to Rise and Shadow. Screw Lara’s weapon upgrades, nobody cares! Just give us storyyyyyy!
Uncharted 4 was the first game I played on a PlayStation. My brother bought it back in 2016 and I was bored so played it, and it was great. It's the game that got me into gaming. I randomly picked up Rise at a GameStop shop cause I thought it looked cool. You know the cover with a pick axe. Did enjoy it but it was the story that made me also pick up the first game and shadow and how I got into the series. The rpg elements were fine. I do like RPGs, but I find a lot of them have become very bloated. I also got into the AC games.. and I'm feeling thoroughly tired of RPGs at this point.
Right? Leave it to games like Far Cry where it makes sense to me. (Loved Far Cry 3)
Also I suggest picking up the Uncharted bundle, yes the games are a bit old and clunky but they have great narratives and are just super fun. Nate as a protagonist is such a great dude and the side characters are also all interesting (unlike lame Jonah)
Facts, I just want a linear tomb rider game just like it’s always been. Why would you want to change something that is already perfect? The linear formula for tomb rider is very good as it is so why make changes into that formula?
Maybe something like Star Wars Fallen Order would work. It has different Levels you can visit and is still pretty open. Movement itself is fun and traversing around the levels with new skills or gadgets keeps it fresh and interesting. They could do so much if Lara became more acrobatic again.
That does sound pretty interesting but I feel like it should be a different game and not tomb rider because tomb rider is already good and it shouldn’t change but I still like that idea tho👍
Nah the society of raiders are the villains of the game. Awakened Lara is the truth seeker that will race against them to protect those artefacts while finding allies to educate her colonial ass about India's culture.
Whilst open world could work, I’ll be surprised if it does. I certainly have no interest in allies and them assisting in missions. I want solitary Lara.
Strategically racing gives me a feeling of ‘race’ missions.
What’s the odds of crafting and endless collectibles being included., no thanks. Not really interested in stealth game play as Lara either. Still watch gameplay and give it a chance.
Please NO MORE CRAFTING.
Society of Raiders sounds dumb.
Actually they do. This person typically leaks stuff about movies, which they have been right on. Why a random leak for a video game and for Tomb Raider of all things? Who knows, but saying they have no credit is BS.
Me neither. I think the linear structure of the earlier games makes the pacing more interesting. Side quests on these levels could enhance replayability but if it is an open world, that opens the possibility to Lara chatting to locals and making the world less isolated and losing the IP focus of raiding tombs.
The name tells us what the game should be. She should travel the world, raiding tombs. Not chatting to local people, not crafting items, not doing favours for NPCs, not hunting animals.
Give me a game where a badass globe trots, finding artefacts, looting treasure, avoiding traps, flipping and jumping while dual-pistol-shooting up anyone who gets in her way.
😃I’m so pleased I’ve got the remasters but would love that style of game with a modern touch. The FMVs in those games could now be fully playable, the action could be sensational. In the reboot games, my favourite parts were the set pieces like the flood or the parachuting. I just wish that they had made them more in line with the puzzling and traversing of the originals instead of being third person shooter.
I can dream!
I’d like to keep an open mind, but unfortunately that’s where the series has been going. The survivor trilogy trended towards bigger and bigger maps, to the point that tombs became something you did on the side. It’s not that big of a leap at this point.
I feel like a lot of videogames have had this trajectory towards becoming open world games unfortunately. They have their place, but I definitely prefer more narrative driven linear games over open world exploration.
Nobody does. We wanted a linear game with a cool story, globe trotting, no rpg upgrade bullshit, difficult puzzles, fun platforming, no multiplayer mode, and tight gameplay. That’s it. That’s all we ever wanted. Just a fun game. But no. I knew this was coming when Rise and Shadow added skill trees, upgrades and a bigger sandbox set in one location.
I think *Rise* did a good job with a sort of *Metroid* type open world. And while I think a true open world in a *Tomb Raider* game *could* work, I'd rather things go back to a more linear structure.
Sounds like a massive pile of Ubisoft tower, escort mission, collectathon, micro transaction, “emergent gameplay”, random encounters, time wasting shite.
Give me TR:TLR Remaster.
I know. Had me laughing when I read it. TR 4-6 remastered would have a bigger following on this Subreddit but that's about the only place. In the real world the next NEW game would destroy it in numbers.
And this is all coming from someone who loves both of those eras of TR
Right, I don't understand people who say the Survivor games aren't open world (especially Rise and Shadow). For me, they're already open world, and I'm so sick of it!
I miss the globe throttling, level by level with X amount of secrets design! Crystal will literally use any gaming series formula but their own!
I understand they have to evolve the series and the concept, but you can do it and still stay faithful to your roots. Just watch what Capcom did with Resident Evil 7. They were able to revamp the OG formula and bring it to modern times and keep it fresh and fun!
"unrestrictedly navigate across a big map and its challenges"
Sounds like it's becoming more of a generic open world game. I don't want to judge too quickly, but I was hoping it would be more like the original games, with dense and carefully designed levels. I just played the 1+2+3 Remastered and I truly miss that type of game with no map and no "points of interest".
oh cool another ubisoft type slop, cant wait to have to craft double pistols and ammo for it by hunting rabbits and liberate samey-looking outpost, i hope we'll also get towers to climb so we can uncover the map, so exciting!
This is more inline with the previous leaks we heard a while ago about a team of tomb raiders. I'm feeling a disturbance in the force and what I'm seeing doesn't sound that appealing. Let's still hold out hope that these rumors are false.
Also if no Egypt, I'm out. There better be Egypt in the next game.
I hope this leak is fake, but it is also similar to that recent direction for that board game or whatever where they want to push a heavy anti-tomb raiding tone to move Lara away from the concept.
This leak makes it sound like Lara would NEVER go tomb raiding, but there's BAD tomb raiders going after newly revealed artifacts, so now she MUST go even though she would never do such a thing because she's a true anti-colonialism heroine!
lmao you hit the nail on the head. The fact they have to do such crazy mental gymnastics to make it even work just shows how stupid the entire thing is.
Either way this game is either not as bad as people fear, or it kills the series dead, the ip gets sold again and we dont see another TR game for 7-8 years.
Tbf, jungles depend on WHERE you are in africa, in central africa is green plateaus, and southern africa it’s more just plains, mostly dry depending on the season. But let’s get Lara driving an ATV across the Namib desert, fighting some hyenas, and have her do a pitstop in an abandoned gold mine in South Africa fighting off some Zama Zamas for a relic that’s in the mine. 😅
I really hope it's not "open-world". I want to be taken on a globe-trotting adventure, not wander the same square mile of forest, ticking off a checklist... 😒
Being an Indian and a long time fan of this gem, it's a feel good moment for me. I always loved their environment design, it's just so refreshing. Let's hope this rumour turns out to be true. Hella excited to see what they do with this
I really hope open world part isn't true. I am really liking the linear multiple location level format of the LAU trilogy. I don't want another generic open world.
Man. Everyone wants back to tomb raiding level based gameplay like the original/remaster. And they go the complete opposite direction.
I’m tired of open world sandboxes with crafting and gathering resources. What a bummer.
I love that we have such a toxic relationship with our favorite video game franchise where they will do literally anything but listen to the fans and what we want. Solid 😂
Crystal’s boardroom meetings are just them, naming a gameplay feature then throwing a dart at games made in the last 5 years to see which one they can copy.
“Open world” ewww….
I mean it could be fine, I don’t hate open world games. FFVII Rebirth beat the odds with how wonderfully linear Remake was. I’d rather more of a 2013 take with small open areas between linear sections.
The worst news. :( Tomb Raider was best when it woukd switch up 4-5 locations in one game to keep it fresh.
And 1 level being 1 tomb/puzzle in the originals was so good.
Sounds like Uncharted Lost Legacy! Honestly everything I’m reading here is not inspiring me, I am sick of big open world games. This doesn’t sound like it will please OG or Survivor fans!
Could all be lies, or they could pull it off! Anyway I will buy it. I am too deep in this franchise.
Honestly the 3rd slide sounds like a fun set up for a TR game. Unfortunately it won’t be long before the “dad was looking for this!” and “you knew mai fatha” drama is inevitably injected into it.
#''SOCIETY OF RAIDERS''
I really don't see how CD sees no issue with this idea. For those out of the loop, the ''Society of Raiders'' is pretty much the official name for a part of the fandom, registered on the official Tomb Raider website.
It is basically the website's membership name. When you get newsletters and official news, that's how they address those subscribed to the newsletter.
So tying in this real life ''club'' in the game, but as an _**antagonistic**_ group is dumb because it'd make the fans enemies - unless that's the intent as a metaphor to showcase the potential toxicity of any fandom _(people thinking they're helping the fandom/Lara but really their actions are hurting the fandom/Lara)_... But still, that would be dumb.
These rumours contradict the previous ones so unless the development team keeps changing the game _**entirely**_ I don't see how this could be seem as accurate.
**Other points**
* I don't really see how a true open world TR would work well. For such a large map, polishing and details would be reduced and the experience would be less ''tailored'' to the story.
* Single location is honestly boring - especially since TR _used_ to be known for **multiple locations.** India can be _awesome_ but if it is a single location, I'd be a bit disappointed.
* If ''non-lethal'' refers to **an expansive hand to hand combat** I'm all up for it - that's something that's been missing from TR games - in every medium and version of TR and Lara Croft, she's always been showcased as an excellent fighter - but we've never had a proper hand to hand combat system - punches, strikes, grapples, kicks.
All in all, it could be true - and it could be terribly implemented, or perfectly implemented.
Only time will tell - and it would be wise **not** to create expectations from rumours.
I just hope that the gameplay focus goes back to the Tomb Raider Classic roots, deep, complex exploration, not the gunplay focus of the reboot games (there was no complex exploration).
After the remasters - I just want more games in that ilk, the new iterations of Tomb Raider are just worlds away from the puzzle solving of the first wave of games.
Take your graphics and your open world and shove it up your arse. I want grind layout jumps and being stuck on a level for 2 weeks because the texture’s are shit and I can’t see the leaver I need to pull.
Sweet, frustrating Tomb Raider. As it was intended.
I would love the remastered team to continue making classic games for the consoles. Delca is a very talented level designer and it could be incredible.
Why are you against the non lethal combat if I may know? Having Lara tranq animals or knockout human enemies is honestly kinda preferrable to emptying clips and stabbing them with her axe.
I don't mind there being a non-lethal option, but (assuming the leaks are correct) I don't want there to be an "emphasis" on it. It should just be an option.
True. It’s been part of the series before but I think I prefer Lara as an antihero who doesn’t care who gets in her way.
I think I saw a YouTube video on the tone of the games being an influencing factor in our sympathy. They used an example of an Indiana Jones scene where he shoots that sword dancer point blank. If the tone of the game is right, we won’t sympathise for the animals or people who get in the way of her.
Its true, the mercs in the Survivor games probably don't deserve sympathy. But it would still be a better option if there were morally grey human enemies, or animals who are basically only attacking because they feel threatened by her, not wanting to eat her.
Open world Tomb Raider sounds pretty limited when you think about it. Zelda desperately needed it, though.
For TR, it'd have to really surpass Zelda and GTA in size to feel authentic. I'd want to fly from India to Peru.
I can sort of see in working all in India, it just has to feel big. And personally, I hope they really go back to the character or at least start tying it together more.
I don’t see anyone complaining about “recruiting teams and allies to strategically aid you in missions and defeating rivals” so here I am.
3 origin stories later and we still don’t have a confident, independent, self-sufficient Lara? Really hoping this isn’t real.
Omg South Asia! Ive been saying for so long I want another South Asian game xD I wanted it for the Lara Croft spin off though. I was hoping we would go back to Egypt for the next game but thats ok too because South Asia is awesomeeeeee lol yayayay. And it sounds so fun. Motorcycles and parachutes cool :) and I like that the society of raiders is separate. Maybe itll be some multiplayer money grab thing which is fine because it sounds fun too. Cool stuff :D new game new game lol
Thats not what i want from a Tomb Raider game
Uncharted 4 already made the open world mistake in some places, and it was bad.
I just want to play an Adventure game with Tombs
...I dont care about open world
All of this is just a bunch of references to other games and the scrapped ending from Shadow to make it seem plausible. It's nonsense until proven otherwise.
I would have to see it before I can commit to how I feel. Just based on this, kinda interested to see it. Not sure if it’s what I really wanted to see, but I’m willing to give it a chance. I liked Uncharted: Lost Legacy and this sounds a lot like that, but bigger.
I am always excited for Tomb Raider games so an open world set in India sounds fantastic as it's such a big place that you could have a variety of environments.
I really doubt they’d go open world with TR. it would make no sense.
I’d be interested to see how the leak is phrased because I’d wager it’s more likely to be large, open levels
I really hope this has a rumour. I'm not excited by multiplayer open world. If it's true I guess I'll have to go into it with an open mind,it may be executed brilliantly.
At least I'm excited by India
I don't know what The Society of Raiders is exactly, but it's reminding me of the final season of Buffy where essentially the whole town joins the Scooby Gang (instead of it being 4 to 6 people), and Buffy shares her slayer powers with every girl in the world. I hated that because she was no longer this solo badass and it took away from the intimacy of a small but trusted group that you grow to get to know and like overtime, Lara has also always been a lone wolf with the occasional help from the few people closest to her like Zip, Sam, and Jonah.
Curious how this rumour mentions India. I literally just finished a replay of SotTR (two minutes before I started typing this) and the envelope at the end with Natla's name on it is addressed from India. Curious.
Open world will be good of they can fill it with i teresting and meaningful things. If it's a Ubi style open world game then that's a hard miss from me.
I'm not so excited about a massive open world, it sounds great on paper and with some games like GTA and Red Dead, or even The Sims it works great! But I feel Tomb Raider is meant to be more about puzzles, tombs, exotic locations etc
I would honestly be here for that.
There's a lot of variety which can be explored with this location. And open world hopefully means we don't have to deal with a plot centred around Lara herself.
I wonder will it be like the uncharted dlc where it is semi open world. Was good but not sure how it would work for a tomb raider game.
Once they get her character down I'll be happy
Set in just India sounds awesome. It would be a return to how TR4 fully explored and did justice to Egypt. I don't like when games throw you around different locations like you're exploring a superficial theme park, I much prefer a coherent adventure in a multifaceted place. And India is far more diverse than Egypt too
TR3's India levels are some of my favorites, so this is pretty promising to hear. Now they just need to ignore her family and give her her dual pistols back 😁
I've wanted open world tomb raider since Rise. I know it's not the usual level based multi location style but playing as Lara in a detailed open world (with bike!), and dual pistol possibly, with more emphasis on hunting, crafting, gear, and more survival stuff always sounded really fun
I actually like the idea of an open world Tomb Raider game. It would definitely be unique compared to the rest of the series. I know everyone complains about open world games being overdone, but the only recent ones that come to mind are Spider-Man 2, FF7 Rebirth, Rise of the Ronin, Dragons Dogma 2, Cyberpunk, and the new Assassin's Creed. I feel like we've gotten a lot of linear games recently, the new God of War games, Dead Space Remake, the recent Resident Evil remakes, Hellblade 2, FF16 (Open area like GoW, but still fairly linear), Lords of the Fallen (I know technically open world, but it is fairly linear), Sniper Elite 5 (level based), Metro Exodus, Metal Gear Delta, and Stellar Blade (Semi-open world).
I know those probably aren't good examples, but I just think we've had a lot of semi-open world/open-area/linear games lately. I know I might get downvoted into oblivion, but I think if done right, an open-world Tomb Raider will be really cool and really different.
Oh fuck, that awful sounding plot summary leak/rumour that was going around last year also placed the game in India. Please oh please let this be false.
I have to admit the free use of the motorbike and parachute don't do much for me. I'd just be afraid these would be a spammable way of escaping a tight spot and maybe remove the tension of a firefight.
Maybe I'm wrong but I'm just picturing BF 2042 where everytime you drop more than a few feet the glider suit can be deployed
Hope it has good graphics. I know gameplay is the most important part but you’re going to look at a screen for a long time so might as well make it pretty.
I’d prefer it wasn't this but it doesn't mean it can’t be good either. Like if the open world was a hub. With tombs dotted all around like Elden Ring dungeons that you can discover (except hopefully less repetitive) but levels broken up with a main hub thing could be alright. It all depends on how well it's made. I’d rather an open world Tomb Raider than is great, instead of a classic level type structure game that is shit.
I love open world games but I don’t think the expected Tomb Raider gameplay lends itself too well to the genre. Unless it’s like some Breath of the Wild thing, finding specific tombs with the usual obstacle-course gameplay scattered across the open world.
The main worry I'd have is, it's an open world so it's just one map and it's going to be this one ahsoka guys tomb as the main tomb. And probably some side ones that are related or offshoots.
I don't know how much value they can squeeze out of that theming to make it the single tomb theme of the whole game
implying it will be a "neutral and genuine to its roots" - Tomb Raider game, and not something related to what was published by SE, India and open world are enough to get a guarantee hard pass on it.
a full open world with no loading , could be good if its hand crafted with lots of interesting things to explore ext. Still i tend to agree, some of the better games are when ur moving to different locations to offer different biodiversity. Lets not forget that most open world games always have the trouble with story pacing and how much is hand crafted, and how much is just boring generation. Need to see more, to much speculation honestly.
The rest of the stuff seems fine. If getting people to work for you, works like some kinda management system for some extra busy work , it could be fine. As long as its not a huge requirement.
Getting around on a motorbike seems good. Society of raiders, like the name is dumb, but is it really a new thing? there were always other people after the artifacts lara was, just same shit different wrapping.
Overall seems ok, if true.
Hmm. If they can incorporate a good story into an open world, then I'm all for it. But so few devs seem to know how to do this effectively.
Too often in open world games, the story is shallow and not very long, but they stretch out the game with lots of repetitive side quests and it becomes kind of boring.
There are some games that make sense being open world. Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Zelda, Immortals: Fenyx Rising, spring to mind.
And there are some open world games that I think don't *need* to be open world, but do it well with the story and the concept. Far Cry 3 is one example.
Even though there was repetition in FC3, overall it's one of the only open world FPS games that really kept me engaged with the story. I thought they did it brilliantly.
If Tomb Raider is able to keep the story interesting and engaging in an open world, then that's cool.
But I must admit, after the more recent Tomb Raider series, I'd rather go back to 'classic Tomb Raider' or even the *Legend/Underworld* era, where the levels were lovingly crafted puzzles and the story flowed between them.
I did a survey about my gaming habits and this concept was presented so I do think the concept is at least being tested if not already in development
The survey was talking about Lara going to India and racing against this society of raiders to discover the secret of the goddess Ashoka.
There’s not much to add to what has already been released. Motorcycles, open world, non lethal combat and multiple tombs with puzzles.
Edited to add details
I mean at least this means less climbing and shit, but I don’t see how with these new things integrated could possibly have a good balance with collectables/tombs. Now with motorcycles and shit, there will problem be a million collectables. Not even sure where the story would go from here too…

Does anyone understand the reasoning behind fabricated 'leaks'? They seem increasingly common for TV shows movies and games. I don't see the point. Is it wishful thinking or just misleading people for fun?
I really miss the globe-trotting adventures of the original games, where the scenery, enemies, and everything would change from place to place. I feel like the open world thing has been done to death. But these are just rumours, and even if true, they could pull off something amazing, so I'm withholding judgement.
I very much prefer they do smaller scale open-worlds, but divided among several countries instead of just a big one. You know, like the Deus Ex games.
That's why I love FFXII. Smaller scale open world with different areas to explore.
Or Assassin's creed 2.
Smaller scale open world with different locations??????? It's been a while but wasn't it mainly 2 cities and a out of the city area to "travel between". Personally that seems like a bit of a stretch calling it smaller open world. Great game though

Oh nice.. good stuff. Like i said it's been a long time (launch) since I played it. Slowly may start working at it
And Driv3r
Metro Exodus did this very well

I think this is a very fair view. I don't feel excited at all for it and hope these are just rumors, but we'll see what happens.

i don’t like open world either. BUT, being able to explore and find tomb by yourself would be amazing. i just don’t want fetch quests :(
That does sound pretty interesting but I feel like it should be a different game and not tomb rider because tomb rider is already good and it shouldn’t change but I still like that idea tho👍
"A society of raiders" God that sounds fucking cringe.
agreed, it has to be "society of truth seekers", the leak is 100% fake
I hope you’re right!
Nah the society of raiders are the villains of the game. Awakened Lara is the truth seeker that will race against them to protect those artefacts while finding allies to educate her colonial ass about India's culture.

take with a massive grain of salt, this "leaker" has no credit
"Rumor" would be a more accurate description of these tweets. An actual leak would be what happened to Insomniac and Rockstar.
Actually they do. This person typically leaks stuff about movies, which they have been right on. Why a random leak for a video game and for Tomb Raider of all things? Who knows, but saying they have no credit is BS.
This too. Most “leakers” are full of shit and looking for attention.
I don't think open world is really something I would want.

Yeah, I definitely don't want it to turn into another open-world RPG.
I loved this not so subtle survivor trilogy shade.
That game is now Uncharted. I’ll just wait to see if we get that rather. Give me Chloe or Nadine now, bye Lara 😭
You already have 5 of those games 😂. Aren't things not allowed to change.
Not all changes are good.
😃I’m so pleased I’ve got the remasters but would love that style of game with a modern touch. The FMVs in those games could now be fully playable, the action could be sensational.
Thank you, I doubt it’ll get as much attention as a continuation of the remasters would. Not very interested either.
Just to clarify, you're saying that remasters of TR 4-6 would sell more copies than a modern photorealistic graphics TR game?
I know. Had me laughing when I read it. TR 4-6 remastered would have a bigger following on this Subreddit but that's about the only place. In the real world the next NEW game would destroy it in numbers. And this is all coming from someone who loves both of those eras of TR
yeah, will also take a lot more of budget and time as well
Being addicted to the original first 4 tomb raider games, sense of isolation and spooky places are key
This literally just sounds like Far Cry.
I count the survivor trilogy open world enough, I'm sick of open world games
Right, I don't understand people who say the Survivor games aren't open world (especially Rise and Shadow). For me, they're already open world, and I'm so sick of it! I miss the globe throttling, level by level with X amount of secrets design! Crystal will literally use any gaming series formula but their own! I understand they have to evolve the series and the concept, but you can do it and still stay faithful to your roots. Just watch what Capcom did with Resident Evil 7. They were able to revamp the OG formula and bring it to modern times and keep it fresh and fun!
Noooooooooo! Stop this RPG nonsense. Nobody asked for an open world tomb raider. I just want a good story, awesome locations, and puzzles.
"unrestrictedly navigate across a big map and its challenges" Sounds like it's becoming more of a generic open world game. I don't want to judge too quickly, but I was hoping it would be more like the original games, with dense and carefully designed levels. I just played the 1+2+3 Remastered and I truly miss that type of game with no map and no "points of interest".
Ugh
I'm tired of open world games
So the Society of Raiders is potentially the new Trinity. Hmmmm... idk
oh cool another ubisoft type slop, cant wait to have to craft double pistols and ammo for it by hunting rabbits and liberate samey-looking outpost, i hope we'll also get towers to climb so we can uncover the map, so exciting!
chill out it doesn't say about having to do any of those things lol
Couldn't imagine a plot I'd be less interested in 😴
This is more inline with the previous leaks we heard a while ago about a team of tomb raiders.
I hate how right you are.
lmao you hit the nail on the head. The fact they have to do such crazy mental gymnastics to make it even work just shows how stupid the entire thing is. Either way this game is either not as bad as people fear, or it kills the series dead, the ip gets sold again and we dont see another TR game for 7-8 years.
Africa at least. Africa is so huge and varied. Sick of jungles though.
& just like that it'a a hard pass for me.
Open world with optional challenges... seems like a more souped up version of the Rise/Shadow formula.
Not everything needs to be open world!
I really hope it's not "open-world". I want to be taken on a globe-trotting adventure, not wander the same square mile of forest, ticking off a checklist... 😒
Sounds like an utter borefest, made it uncharted 4 at this point. Pathetic.
But will we get dual pistols?
I would go as far as to say that’s confirmed with the unified Lara being promoted everywhere
No thanks. Ain’t got time in my life for open world collection-a-thons.
^(please no crafting, please no crafting, please no crafting...)
So.....Assasins Creed : The Raider of Tombs. Eww
*Assassins Creed: The Seekers of Truth
God I hope this is fake
Being an Indian and a long time fan of this gem, it's a feel good moment for me. I always loved their environment design, it's just so refreshing. Let's hope this rumour turns out to be true. Hella excited to see what they do with this
I was so hyped when Uncharted: The Lost Legacy launched, loved it instantly. Haven't tried it yet but would start playing once I'm done with SotTR.
Yet another open-world that would probably be based off the shitty Ubisoft’s basics. Beautiful but very empty, repetitive, and boring. (I hope not).
If there's no dual pistols I'm out.
I really hope open world part isn't true. I am really liking the linear multiple location level format of the LAU trilogy. I don't want another generic open world.
Love the idea of a game set in India, the first levels of TRIII are so good!
Before any of you have a meltdown, this is all rumours.
“Open world” ewww…. I mean it could be fine, I don’t hate open world games. FFVII Rebirth beat the odds with how wonderfully linear Remake was. I’d rather more of a 2013 take with small open areas between linear sections.
Open world? I’m out.
The worst news. :( Tomb Raider was best when it woukd switch up 4-5 locations in one game to keep it fresh. And 1 level being 1 tomb/puzzle in the originals was so good.
It sounds sweet. Unfortunately, though, It's 2024. I'm sure they'll add some sort of unnecessary annoyances that'll stop me from buying it.
Fuck that
Why so negative and nasty?
Because this sounds like Far cry. Not you know going through Tombs with a mix of puzzles and shootouts.
Honestly the 3rd slide sounds like a fun set up for a TR game. Unfortunately it won’t be long before the “dad was looking for this!” and “you knew mai fatha” drama is inevitably injected into it.
Open world makes me worry. I don't want this to feel like Assassin's Creed.
I wouldn't really mind some of these aspects if it's still recognizable as a tomb raider game. But I admit I do love globetrotting adventures
Sounds very angel of darkness to me
Not a open world :(
India huh? Well I hope Lara doesnt need to use the bus there 😆
#''SOCIETY OF RAIDERS'' I really don't see how CD sees no issue with this idea. **Other points** * I don't really see how a true open world TR would work well.
So it’s Far Cry
Most Indians cremate.
So Lara's gonna be taking advantage of a disaster to pillage another foreign nation's ancient site for loot?
Sounds like it's trying to do too much imo.
Why are you against the non lethal combat if I may know? Having Lara tranq animals or knockout human enemies is honestly kinda preferrable to emptying clips and stabbing them with her axe.
I think the non-lethal option is the only thing in this rumor that sounds good to me.
As long as there's no multiplayer, and no campfire/ survivor thing, i'm in.
Another MASSIVE open world, huh? K. 😑 Still a rumour. The future will tell. Prolly bullseye though.
Sounds shit
That's not Tomb Raider.
I don’t see anyone complaining about “recruiting teams and allies to strategically aid you in missions and defeating rivals” so here I am. 3 origin stories later and we still don’t have a confident, independent, self-sufficient Lara? Really hoping this isn’t real.
Recruiting teams would instantly prevent me playing the game. Is it so hard to have just a confident well written Lara?
Yeah I'm not playing that if it's true
Omg South Asia! Ive been saying for so long I want another South Asian game xD I wanted it for the Lara Croft spin off though. I was hoping we would go back to Egypt for the next game but thats ok too because South Asia is awesomeeeeee lol yayayay. And it sounds so fun. Motorcycles and parachutes cool :) and I like that the society of raiders is separate. Maybe itll be some multiplayer money grab thing which is fine because it sounds fun too. Cool stuff :D new game new game lol
If this was real.... 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎
Thats not what i want from a Tomb Raider game Uncharted 4 already made the open world mistake in some places, and it was bad. I just want to play an Adventure game with Tombs ...I dont care about open world
Rise of Just Cause Shadow of Far Cry
"Society of Raiders". lmao thats cringe as hell
Rather vague sounding, but I do think India is a fun setting. Kinda giving me uncharted vibes, not sure how I feel about that.
New Lara will look like an angry young man. Taking bets now
I’m sure it’s not that deep, but isn’t The Society of Raiders also what they call the login section of TombRaider.com?
All of this is just a bunch of references to other games and the scrapped ending from Shadow to make it seem plausible. It's nonsense until proven otherwise.
I’d much rather they were adversaries than friends. I can get on board if Lara isn’t too social and sanguine
It could be that they're still adversaries. Not all members of a society are amicable towards each other.
Fake news
I'm not believing anything. We've been down this road before regarding leaks. I'm exhausted and just worn out.
I would have to see it before I can commit to how I feel. Just based on this, kinda interested to see it. Not sure if it’s what I really wanted to see, but I’m willing to give it a chance. I liked Uncharted: Lost Legacy and this sounds a lot like that, but bigger.
Me when I'm bored No but actually if it's actually open world it needs many tombs and puzzles
Assassins Creed feat. Lara Croft
I was really hoping they would go the Assassin's Creed 2 rout of creating multi open worlds that aren't that big instead of being stuck in India.
I really hope this has a rumour. I'm not excited by multiplayer open world. If it's true I guess I'll have to go into it with an open mind,it may be executed brilliantly. At least I'm excited by India
I'm worried about the Truth Raider thing tbh.
I just hope for a fully customizable Lara and dual pistols. And fighting something super natural. Like aliens or some shit.
Tomb Raider: Lost Legacy
Curious how this rumour mentions India. I literally just finished a replay of SotTR (two minutes before I started typing this) and the envelope at the end with Natla's name on it is addressed from India. Curious.
Open world will be good of they can fill it with i teresting and meaningful things. If it's a Ubi style open world game then that's a hard miss from me.
I'm not so excited about a massive open world, it sounds great on paper and with some games like GTA and Red Dead, or even The Sims it works great! But I feel Tomb Raider is meant to be more about puzzles, tombs, exotic locations etc
Open Ended like Uncharted 4's levels with the globe trotting of Uncharted 3.
![gif](giphy|4pOQKujxHaMKs)
I would honestly be here for that. There's a lot of variety which can be explored with this location. And open world hopefully means we don't have to deal with a plot centred around Lara herself.
It sounds promising but i hope the character model looks somewhat more like the Lara croft of Anniversary to get that classic feel.
I wonder will it be like the uncharted dlc where it is semi open world. Was good but not sure how it would work for a tomb raider game. Once they get her character down I'll be happy
Ok normally I don't gel with massive sandboxes (Fallout, Breath of the Wild etc) but I think I could get behind this
Im gonna go against the grain here as I would be really excited for an open world. I freaking love exploring open worlds.
Uncharted Lost Legacy is right there! Just take inspo from that at least.
Now they just need to ignore her family and give her her dual pistols back 😁
Non lethal combat? Yeah sounds like tomb raider
Hope we can ride the train.
Oh great... another open world Tomb Raider game. ![gif](giphy|BY8ORoRpnJDXeBNwxg|downsized)
Open world. Oh fuck off.
After the last 3 games I won’t be playing anymore Tomb Raider. She doesn’t raid tombs anymore anyway!
https://preview.redd.it/jxhjq8kifhyc1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ff03fab04b68557982ab88574a85cb9f121ee2d6 "Open world"
I’d prefer it wasn't this but it doesn't mean it can’t be good either.
Just cause in coming
I need globetrotting in my TRs. Greece, India, Egypt, Peru, China, Mexico. All over the globe, not just one country.
The main worry I'd have is, it's an open world so it's just one map and it's going to be this one ahsoka guys tomb as the main tomb. And probably some side ones that are related or offshoots. I don't know how much value they can squeeze out of that theming to make it the single tomb theme of the whole game
Sounds great.
When is it going to be made and released?
implying it will be a "neutral and genuine to its roots" - Tomb Raider game, and not something related to what was published by SE, India and open world are enough to get a guarantee hard pass on it.
a full open world with no loading , could be good if its hand crafted with lots of interesting things to explore ext.
I did a survey about my gaming habits and this concept was presented so I do think the concept is at least being tested if not already in development The survey was talking about Lara going to India and racing against this society of raiders to discover the secret of the goddess Ashoka. There’s not much to add to what has already been released. Motorcycles, open world, non lethal combat and multiple tombs with puzzles. Edited to add details
Why does this sound like a Battle Royale game?
I mean at least this means less climbing and shit, but I don’t see how with these new things integrated could possibly have a good balance with collectables/tombs. Now with motorcycles and shit, there will problem be a million collectables. Not even sure where the story would go from here too…
Open world sounds fun. Non-lethal combat? Well, it did say that was optional. Ensure that Lara can dual-wield H&K USP .40's, and I'm sold on the idea.
So… Just Cause?

Does anyone understand the reasoning behind fabricated 'leaks'? They seem increasingly common for TV shows movies and games. I don't see the point. Is it wishful thinking or just misleading people for fun?
Yea. Another open world game, great. Don't forget to implement micro transactions and as much diversity and inclusion content as possible 🫡😐
