Can’t get into Swans for some reason. Checked out To Be Kind on multiple occasions and feel like it’s so close to being really good but then just drags on. Any other suggestions on where to start?
Swans clicked for me with the Children of God and the great annihilator. Much more straight to the point and sets the context for the lengthier tracks on later albums and makes them more rewarding to listen to.
Not all time but definitely of the 90s, soup is a masterpiece, kills me that people think of them as a 1 hit wonder. No rain is a great song but it’s one of their worst songs, which is a testament the quality of music they released.
Spot the Aussie, nice! Saw Caligula at my local last year supporting The Butterfly effect, awesome night. Bought some merch directly from the boys, top blokes.
Opiated, escape is at hand, nautical disaster, Cordelia, the luxury, fully completely are some of my top songs.
So many amazing albums, too hard to choose
Nice. I’ve seen most of those guys live. PJ puts on a great show but Billy Joel with Elton John was one of the best shows I’ve never seen. Elton changed clothes like 6 times!
I loved RATM and Liked SoundGarden. Could never get into Audioslave and I tried to. Couldn't get into post-Staley Alice in Chains either even though I liked Jerry's solo albums...idk
Okay wait, you're the shit, but not like THEE shit because sadly I already gave that title to someone else here in the comments. My bad man but you di have amazing taste
Opeth, porcupine tree, Meshuggah, Pink Floyd, Led zeppelin, dire straits, Radiohead, The doors, Pantera,

I'm sure there's a few thousand more that I've forgotten

Led Zeppelin, Stevie Nicks, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Steve Miller Band, Metallica…I’m all over the place! Why I love rock, and music in general. So much sound to carry on.

Static-X. Deftones. Rammstein. COG. Chevelle. Gojira. A Perfect Circle. Queens Of The Stone Age.
Probably my "top" favourites anyway.
Chuck Karnivool in there as well, not as a "top" fave but still amazing and I notice a lot of Tool fans gravitate towards them.
Mastodon, Karnivool, Les Friction, Animal Alpha, Djerv, APC, 3teeth, Heilung, Purson, Babymetal, Queen, QotSA, Project 86, Evanescence
Just off the top. Some are still active, some aren't. A couple of these I used to be embarrassed to admit be the older I get the less I give a fuck.
Gojira, Meshuggah, Deftones, Loathe, Radiohead, Korn, Muse (believe it or not), Alice In Chains, CKY, The Smiths, Avenged Sevenfold (although I find it hard to listen to them after hearing the lyrics on critical acclaim)

I'm gonna flip things on its head and say that Tool led me to dance music, if indirectly via Alex Jones who I watched paint live at a psytrance festival.
I now mostly listen to a wide range of progressive (house or techno) DJs. Very different to 'progressive rock/metal/whatever you call Tool' with their crazy time signatures and polyrhythms.
Some examples:
Guy J
Jerome Isma-Ae
Eelke Kleijn
Fuenka
Victor Ruiz
I still love Tool, loved FI but I'd much rather seek out new sets than new band albums generally.
Rush, Pink Floyd, Mastodon, Isis, King Crimson, The Ocean, Devin Townsend, Opeth, Porcupine Tree, Psychotic Waltz, A Perfect Circle, Pain Of Salvation, Faith No More, Sentenced, System Of A Down, Alice In Chains, Tenacious D, The Mars Volta, Jethro Tull, Gojira, Burst, Dio, Twisted Sister. Did I mention RUSH?

That's my top stuff right now but it changes a lot.

Clutch is insane. So underrated. Best punkabilly group of all time. OP, if you check them out listen to Transnational Speedway first.

Meshuggah, Blind Melon, Mos Def, Fiona Apple, Acid Bath, and a multitude of others
Fetch the Bolt Cutters is seriously one of the best albums of the post pandemic era
Blind Melon is the most underrated band of the 90s… possibly of all time!
Not enough people dig in past No Rain. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great song. But there is so much more depth to them. Ashamed Hoon had to OD.
Change is one of their best. Help me through some dark times...
Got dang pusher man over here! Blind Melon is so good
Not all time but definitely of the 90s, soup is a masterpiece, kills me that people think of them as a 1 hit wonder. No rain is a great song but it’s one of their worst songs, which is a testament the quality of music they released.
