I took my son to his first Tool show when he was 7. He’s now 30 and we always go when they are nearby. It a bond we have together and have even added a Tool song to our setlist to play live. It’s a “simpler” one but we love to play it and it always gets a great response! We’re definitely Tool nerds.

Classic-Historian458

Which song??

MediumRip1539

Swamp Song. My son, 2 younger brothers and I play for fun and few shows here and there. My son started running the opening bass line one night at practice and we all just kinda picked it up from there.

LG7019

Hell yeah! Nice work pop!

Lazy_Point_284

Swamp Song is rad

Maudib1962

Fu!&king love this! Glad to hear

Enough_King_6931

Maudib1962

Thanks for sharing The legacy lives on!

Enough_King_6931

Yeah, he’s 19 and still listens to crap, but he’s getting there.

DeltaKT

I think it's all about the environment. :') At least in my experience and observations. A good day to you both!

Half_Loaf

My dad showed me the Stinkfist and Sober music videos about a year ago. They've been my favorite band since :)

Maudib1962

I love how Tool is so good the next generation appreciates them too. That is what makes not a 'dad band'.

ArizonaBaySwimTeam

I managed to get my nephews into charter Tool. The headmaster is a bit of an asshole to people, but the placement test was easy enough. Just a bunch of parabola work and psych art.

breakfastburrito24

The Fibbonasshole sequence

ETDuckQueen

I'm not a parent, but a teenage kid. I got into TOOL without my parents. :)

Maudib1962

One of us One of us One of us One of us

wocisjr

Same here.

Spiralout1974

My soon to be 8yo likes a lot of the things I listen to. Lots of Rock and Punk. If there’s a particular song I’m listening to he likes, he’ll, add it to his Spotify. He has added some Tool to his list. Love that he likes everything from Pink Floyd to Beastie Boys.

Maudib1962

Your kid has great taste in music. Nice!!

LostMyBackupCodes

Same for my 7yo son and his playlist! He’s got a bunch of Tool on there. We listen to a lot of SiriusXM’s Lithium channel for 90’s alternative and grunge, so his favorite band for a few years has been REM. He’s liked Michael Stipe’s vocals since he was 2 or 3 I think, lol.

Dad-Bod-Supreme

I didn't force it on him. He listens to stuff I play and will ask me to add the song on his playlist if he likes it. There are several Tool songs on his list though. For a while he was listening to 10,000 days multiple times a day.

Classic-Historian458

On the flip side, I got my 67 year old dad into Tool. For reference, he mainly listens to jazz and classical guitar music, with the heaviest probably being an occasional led zeppelin song. Now he says every time he's at the gym it's tool, tool, tool.

Maudib1962

And that is how it's done. He influences his friends and the fandom just keeps expanding.

bashnl

My 12 year old son started listening to tool when he was 8. Obviously because of me listening to them regularly when kids are with me. Two years ago i gave him a family account to Spotify and he figured his way to create his own playlists. When i checked, i noticed stinkfist, forty six & 2, sober and schism in his top 5. Next concert we'll be able to join in the Netherlands i will take him.

Un__Real

My daughter has seen tool 3 times live now. She's 16. She's also into the Deftones, which I'm not but good for her.

def_stef

I love both bands and so does my daughter!

Maudib1962

I just introduced my son to Passengers. He didn't realize it was Maynard singing the Deftones song. It's on a few of his playlists now.

def_stef

One of my favorites for sure!

MrPeterMerkin

Then show him Rage Against The Machine - Know Your Enemy also featuring Maynard.

Maudib1962

Will do! I'm sure he will embrace it. Right now he is listening to all the discographies he can find of banda from sounds like Tool searches. The options kids have these days with Spotify compared to when I was a kid is just crazy.

Dennygreen

didn't try my kid listens to something called Miku

Comfortable-Head5721

show your kid maretu as a transition band. it’s vocaloid metal

Irksomecake

Not yet… me and my sister did manage to get our dad into it though so the kids will be next.

Maudib1962

Sweet. Brining the 'elderly' into the fold. I haven't managed that. My parents are locked into the Beach Boys and Barbara Streisand. The horror growing up... The horror!

NeboKnight

My 24 yr old son actually turned ME onto Tool after seeing how much I loved Rush.

WifeofBath1984

I know my oldest (21) likes Tool, but I think it's more nostalgic for her. She definitely respects them as musicians, but she grew up listening to them. It's her "mom's music". Lucky her. My mom's music was Rod Stewart and The Monkees. At least I got Eric Clapton from my dad.

Maudib1962

If she refers to Tool as 'mom's music' to any Tool fan you are going to come off as the most rocking and bad ass mom.

Hungry_Freaks_Daddy

After playing Pneuma in the car for like 2 years straight my kid goes “dad when are you going to stop listening to this song” WHEN YOU UNDERSTAND AND APPRECIATE IT.  No but actually I stopped playing it after that. Maybe someday it’ll click for him.

LG7019

That's too funny, my whole family flips me shit every time I watch a Vick Firth Pneuma reaction video. I don't have a problem, I could quit any time I want, haha.

Maudib1962

I keep going back to those reaction videos for when people discover Tool so I get it

brandonspade17

I noticed my 7 year old the other day singing taking blood keeping faith, I'm still right here. Proud dad moment for sure.

therealTK423

56m fan from the beginning, our son was born in 2001 introduced to Lateralus in womb... Later caught him in the rearview mirror mouthing the voice box solo from Jambi....wa wa waaaaa...waa. Such a proud moment!! *Wipes tear*...he's 23 now, very eclectic taste in music... Bass player ,Guitar player, definitely appreciates Tool and is fully aware of special they are...

RumSwiller

My 6 yo hates tool :( but she does like primus. I’m holding out hope.

ElectroDemon666

U got me into TOOL ;).

AGRooster

Best I've done is getting my 4 year old into System of a Down. The tool songs I'm willing to play for him are beyond his attention span.

Maudib1962

The jump from SOD to TOOL isn't that far.if he can handle the energy and raw nature of the music.

bstnbrewins814

My daughter enjoys listening to them. I would always walk around the house carrying her while listening to the albums before she could walk. She loved doing that. Now her new obsession is the artwork. She loves looking at my posters I have. We even did a mock up frame job together and I let her pick the mats. It looks like it’ll work nicely. Even if it doesn’t it’s something special to her so I wouldn’t change it. Once I get the funds for it I’ll get it framed. Since they’re getting up there in age I’m probably going to bring her with me next time around. She’ll love that. She always enjoys live music and rocks TF out anywhere. Kid is not shy at all.

brianthomas00

Oldest daughter (21) likes a lot of 90s rock but says it’s too hard for her. Son (19) likes rap and makes fun of me saying it’s music to steal catalytic converters to. Youngest daughter says it’s “weird” and doesn’t like anything heavy at all. So in summary, I’ve failed as a parent.

LG7019

There's still time! Don't give up!

captcarl_21

My 15 year old might be a bigger fan than me. He's seen them live 6 times now and probably listens to them everyday. It helps he is a drummer.

Maudib1962

Yeah my son borders on the fanatic part of fan. That must be great to hear him attempt or grow into a drummer influenced by Tool.

-girya-

Puscifer, APC, yes...sadly not Tool...

toddpackersux

My (now 16 year old) son's first concert was Tool. He was 13 at the time. That is what he asked for as a Christmas gift.

dire_turtle

This is so weird to me. I don't want to encourage my kid to like things bc I like it. I want her to try things and be open to what she likes. When we're in the car, my kid will ask to listen to Taylor Swift. Bc I want her to feel good about trying things and owning what she likes, I fuckin bump it. Bc making her love for music about mirroring my tastes is a nasty way to ruin such a precious, honest pursuit of life. It's about feeling good, and kids can feel that listening to a lot of things. I'd suppose for a lot of you rigid butts, your kids might feel better knowing you are willing to enjoy music with them if they agree to like what you like. Kids love so hard they'll stuff their own identity to be accepted by their parents.

LG7019

I started my oldest with artists like Jimmy Buffet, Cat Stevens as a toddler, moved onto AC-DC, Van Halen by kindergarten / grade school. 10.000 days was released in 06 when he was 8 now there probably hasn't been a day or two go by when at least one of us hasn't had a Tool song on. He even bought us tickets to Sessanta earlier this year. Now he's the one introducing me to new bands. Oh and we have tickets to Animals as Leaders this fall. My middle son has always marched to a different drummer, literally and figuratively. I've tried and failed to bring him over to the dark side, haha. He does love music and doesn't dislike Tool, just isn't mildly obsessed like the rest of us. And the icing on the cake, My daughter (almost 19) resisted until about her Junior year in HS has now introduced most of her college dance team to Tool. She said they all thought there was something wrong with her at first but she's even converted a couple Swiftys, haha. In fact she told me her top 2 Spotify bands for 23 were Tool and Pink Floyd. I've made plenty of mistakes as a father but I do have 3 kids that love music, I'll take that as a win.

Maudib1962

Love that final statement. We do our best. Appreciate their wins and own the responsibility of their losses. But them being music fans is the goal. Being Tool fans is just icing.

put_simply

Both of my daughters ages 17 and 20 have been into Tool for years and I've gotten to take them to shows 3x.

Maudib1962

Nicely done. More women need to get into Tool. They aren't represented enough.

put_simply

If I'm honest, equal credit to their mom. We've been seeing Tool together since....1996 in Philly I think.

Maudib1962

A Tool couple like me and my wife. Nicely done. Did they convert any of their friends to TOOL?

CyprianG1

My dad got me into a few months ago. Saw them live this year in Manchester UK, we left the venue speechless.

Maudib1962

A new fan, jealous of that experience. Lucky you to see them now so early in your fandom years.

XeroKillswitch

I’m going with the Uno Reverse card on this one. I got my 72-year old dad into Tool. Took him to the concert in AZ earlier this year and he loved it. He was blown away by Danny and Justin. He plays guitar and mostly listens to The Eagles, Garth Brooks, Santana, and a few others. But, he’s a huge Tool fan now.

DeltaKT

That is fucking awesome!!

Melopahn1

No kiddos but I have a baby sister who is 17 years younger. I got her into them. Basically the same thing I listened to them a lot and she just heard it as a result and liked it.

lorocowurst

My 3 year old loves it just because I play it regularly. I even have Fear Inoculum on the wall and he asks me to play it several times a week. When I went to the concert he kept asking me how was it and wanted to see the video of the last song. He loves the video of the drummer playing Pneuma live and when I play that song, he’d arrange some boxes to pretend he’s the drummer. God I love my child.

Maudib1962

I feel that love in this post. Keep on enjoying those moments. They grow up so fast and it's different levels of how you appreciate Tool together.

Uiscefhuaraithe-9486

My daughter used to only fall asleep to TOOL or Iron Maiden, but now she likes pop and all of those songs created by people who like the FNAF lore, my step daughter is really getting into TOOL, APC and Puscifer which is great! We're a Maynard/EDM family haha My son is only 3.5 but loves to jam to TOOL too hahaha

Servantofthedogs

Yep. Been to three Tool concerts with my son (and one with my wife, too)

Maudib1962

Never gets old seeing Tool. And always worth the price of the ticket no more where you sit or how close or far from the stage.

gerdes88

For the first time in my life I heard Tool on the radio today, coincidentally with my two daughters of 4 and 1 in the car as well. Because of their age I had planned to wait a bit until I introduce them to tool, though they do like some Muse and APC already, so it will be soon. But today was too early. After the song, which was The Pot, the older one said it hurt their ears and that it was way too loud 😂😂

gerdes88

And maybe not directly related, but me and my brother who are big tool fans, finally managed to make our dad a fan when Fear Inoculum came out. Until that album he said it was too heavy for him, but for some reason (maybe the great reviews), he gave this album a chance and loved it of course, despite only liking regular rock like Pink Floyd.

LG7019

I mean that kinda makes sense, F I is definitely milder and I would say more in line with a Floyd fan.

greenm4ch1ne

My two oldest are finally into Tool and Queens of the Stoneage after years of hearing it in the car. My daughter has also gotten into Mars Volta recently

slingbladde

Funny, my 13 yr old daughter is supposedly not into QOTSA, according to her. But her hearing them since she was an infant, she is always singing 1 of their lyrics or humming their music...subliminally into them, i tell her, haha. 18-year-old son has heard Tool since an infant. Took him to their concert, certified fan now.

greenm4ch1ne

Nice my oldest(son) is 12 i show him videos of concerts and hes always amazed im trying to convince him to go with me next time.

nfaletti7

My 5 year old daughter makes me play mantra on repeat. She heard it one time and said it sounds like a dragon sleeping. It somehow really soothes her. She tells me to play it on a loop.

UndueOdium

I have two boys, and they are usually subjected to Maynard in some form when they’re in the car with me. They both definitely respect Tool, but my oldest son (16) loves Puscifer, and my youngest son (12) prefers A Perfect Circle. They both play instruments in school so they definitely appreciate all of Maynard’s bands and definitely recognize the talent. My 12 y/o plays drums in the school band and is actually really good for his age. He definitely has a TON of respect for Danny Carey.

Maudib1962

Thirteen Steps is one of my fav albums to this day. Mad respect for the musical kids. Send a YouTube link when they go viral for doing Tool in a talent show one day!!

UndueOdium

You got it!

def_stef

Me! My daughter is getting into them. I started her with H. And Pushit.

yogeedor

15,14 and 7 year old kiddos all love TOOL. I didn’t realize my eight year old loved tool til I heard his headphones while playing video games. He was listening to the whole Lateralus album!😭😭😭 they also enjoy APC and Puscifer. 🥹

prankster486

Started my son in utero. He's 9 and still loves them.

Maudib1962

My kids slept to Laterlus as babies. Did that influence them later? Perhaps. Maybe I should have played classical like they said but this was more right.

prankster486

A poppa has to do the right thing, always.

FunkyApe31

i found tool by myself when i was in 5th grade, my dad found out i liked tool and weve been to 2 concerts together, one when i was 13 (it was my first concert!) and one when i was 15

disasterchef59

Yup... took them both to the London show. Both play the music non stop.

istillambaldjohn

I mean the main audience is Gen X for tool. Hell, I am a grandfather now. One of my kids LOVES tool. One of my grandkids LIKES tool.

fraudulentdogma

TOOL is one of those once in a lifetime generational timeless bands. Queen and Nirvana also fall into this category where it seems everyone of all ages can get into their music generation after generation. Me personally i found TOOL on my own and my parents weren’t too into them, though my dad really enjoys Ænima. But TOOL was one of few metal bands (along with Opeth and Metallica) that I got my grandpa to enjoy before he passed away, so that was super cool. I know this doesn’t answer you question at all as i am the “kid” (22years old) who got into TOOL but i firmly believe they will continue to stay relevant and inspire people well after they are gone.

ssophiiee

https://preview.redd.it/3pwber7hbz8d1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ac3c4a9881541f9ff4f98c3a518d4fb35a258edb He’s now 8 and loves listening to Tool. I had Postal Service (my other favorite) on in the car last week and he asked me to change it to Tool.

ssophiiee

And, he was bummed when we couldn’t take him to see Tool in February. I got some videos (sorry, Maynard) for him tho.

ErbiumRaven

Not a parent but my mom and dad showed me 46 & 2 and it’s always been a favorite of mine

truale3

Not my kids, but my sisters kids I got both of them Into tool

t-wino

I have a ten year old who loves them- favorite songs are the pot and Rosetta and he loves watching videos of shows. I listen to all kinds of music and he pretty much thinks anything I like is lame besides tool and hip hop. Hoping to bring him to a show soon and also hoping that happens soon enough that he’d still want to go with me.

ramdmc

Took my son to his first concert ever, didn't know until that afternoon, had to keep it secret for 8 months. He's a huge Tool fan and kept asking about getting tickets to the show prior to it, little did he know I purchased a pair in the presale. Jambi is our jam.

spriralout

All these stories are so inspiring - made my day! ☀️🙏

Maudib1962

I'm enjoying them too. I tried to read and reply to all but it became too much. You get the commonality though. Yes. It moves up and down in generations and it's cherished. We're surrounded by Tool fans so its a biased microcosm of the world but that's ok, I needed this without knowing it.

Comfortable-Head5721

i’m the kid who was gotten into TOOL by my dad and i’m on this subreddit and considering TOOL tattoos so hi

jbitts69

I’m 44, my daughter is 23, huge fan of Tool, Korn and lots of heavy music cause of me. We’ve been to a few shows as well. My mom who was 72 when she passed in 2019 was also a huge Tool fan and loved Puscifer as well thanks to me. She really loved Maynard and thought he was an absolute genius. Wings for Marie on YouTube top of the comment section

Bunionzz

I did, my daughter loves them. She just turned 16. Got to take her on a 16 hour road trip, each way, to go see them last November. It's been a bucket list item for me to see them, after 30+ years of being a fan, and yeah we did it together, and it was great. She has even done english projects on some of Tools songs.

Abaddon_Jones

I did. Took my son to see them a few weeks ago and he came home with Dan’s drumstick. Bonus.

Gradual_Tardigrade

My son will be 11 next month, and Pneuma is his favorite song.

ClayC94

Taken my 18 year old to two shows. His first ever concert was Tool and he was blown away.

LonisEdison

I took my then 12 yo son to Tool in March 22. I didn't have any issues.

kostros

I got my father into Tool when he was around 50. He has my 10k days CD in his car and plays whenever drives longer distance. He says this need to be played very very loud and I kinda agree with him :)

Hellochrishi11

My dad showed me a Watch Mojo top 10 TOOL songs sometime in 2019 maybe? I thought it was silly, he then bought me Opiate EP, Undertow, and Fear Inoculum on vinyl for my birthday 2022 and I've been really into them ever since

ExpressionAlarmed675

My kids grew up on NWA, while I was blasting Undertow on a Bose Acoustamass 12, needless to say they don't care for them.

Maudib1962

Yeah but every time they hear Tool or someone talks about them they will think of Dad

GreyWind_51

My mum was a big King Crimson fan, when she was my age. I'm 22 now. I showed her Tool and she really likes them. So for me it's the other way around

Wasabi_is_Gay

My dad got me into tool. Been obsessed for like 10 months and got to see them live once

WeaponH_

my dad. He just used to listen to them while I was around and then when I was getting into metal I've realized those songs my father used to listen to were tool's and my child memories made me automatically love them. In particulary I remembered Schism cause the bassline is unforgettable.

Bruce-ifer

I played Pneuma in the car when I drove my daughter home from the hospital after she was born. She is four now and so far likes a few Tool songs, especially Intermission, lol that’s her favorite. She calls it “silly tool”.

satannssnaredrum

Yep! My kid loves them! Biggest Danny Carey fan there is

Maudib1962

Nice. Start 'em young

TheDopeGodfather

My eleven year old son's favorite TOOL song is Hooker With A Penis.

FalseVeterinarian881

Yes! Show them the kids covering 46n2!

MaerIynsRainbow

I took my 10 year old in January. It was great.

viickybee_

My mom got me into TOOL a few months ago lol

ThatGuyThatSaysWords

All 3 of my boys under 11 all ask for tool

Jefforr48183

My 13 yr old daughter wants nothing to do w Tool unfortunately

jmmcnall

Lol

YogaLatteNerd

Yes! But only 1 of my 4 kids so far. A few months ago my 8 year old started asking me to “play that again!” I took her to a show… Like, “get in the car, you’re coming with me tonight,” and the sudden realization of what I meant. Amazing :) She asks Alexa to play Tool when she goes to bed. And the other day we were in a parking lot and heard Sober playing, and she started singing along :) I’m just glad it seems to bring her joy like it does for me.

Beautifullikeacamel

I have

IrreverantBard

My 11 year olds love Tool, and they hum it while they crochet or knit. Really relaxing band to listen to when crafting.

blbskue

My oldest daughter (9), enjoys Tool and other music I listen to. I’m teaching her to play guitar and she likes watching Maya Neelakantan’s covers on YouTube. She’s also a Swiftie but has some good taste as well. I dragged both kids to a Puscifer show a few years ago and they enjoyed the first 20 minutes or so before they fell asleep. Edit: she lost her mind when I showed her that Stinkfist/We Are Never Getting Back Together mashup.

krazyki85

Me! My 21 year old grew up listening to Tool, and when he became a teenager he started listening to what every teen at the time listened to, that horrible Mumble rap s***! I'm more of a metal/rock/alternative/grunge/punk, type person, but I do not mind some rap. But the rap that he listened to what's horrible. Now that he has FINALLY grown out of that stage in life and is now into stuff I love, including Tool. He knows my L❤️VE for the band and Maynard's beautiful voice! 😍 Lol Speaking of, does anyone know of a Tool song that he can play on his guitar? It has to be a somewhat beginner level song, because he just started playing a little while ago.

No-Wish9823

My 5yr old always tells me to turn it up when Jambi or H. are running in the car.

Maudib1962

Something about seeing kids jam to Tool always warms my heart. Future rockers. Especially when they do the devil horns.

krazyki85

I am 39 so I started loving Tool when I heard them played on my older brothers cassette player 🤣 I had to be about 5 😂 I just remember loving the riffs and Maynard's voice. I never stopped loving them, I was actually lucky enough to see them live May 18th 2001 at the State theater in Detroit! This was waaaay waaayy back when you had to wake up early and stand in line for hours at Ticket master 😂 I was one of the last to get a floor ticket, they only had 2 left and my friend and I got the last 2! Out of the millions of concerts I've been to that has to be my #1 top concert! I purposely made sure i didn't smoke any green or drink, because I wanted to remember the concert and be fully immersed.

No_Hurry_2570

Hi I'm 61 I went and saw 🔥 TOOL🔥 BABY🔥 with my husband so let me tell you I've grown old with them! Saw them in Cleveland oh my God blew me away I never saw them in concert oh man Maynard was something else. They all were they all are! After that my son started getting into them. They are my absolute favorite along with number two Pink Floyd saw them at the world series of Rock when I was 16, and Radiohead that's quite a quirky collection I know but that's that and my son is still listening to them and still going to see your concert they're coming back around I hope my health is good enough cuz I want to see them again it was amazing this was a couple years ago never forgotten I still have the videos so for me it's always going to be 🔥 TOOL BABY🔥 they touch something deep down in my psyche, spirit and soul I can't listen to them without crying I know it's such a girl thing to do but hey I'm proud to bawl to TOOL 🔥 and I got to tell you I am proud and flattered my son is into them now he's 28 years old xoxo my fellow TOOL friends 😃🥰

Maudib1962

I LOVE THIS POST! Great energy and I hope to still enjoy them in my 60's with the same passion you have here.

No_Hurry_2570

Thank you so much! I really appreciate that and I just know that you will honey!

CaejdChase

I kinda did the opposite, I’m a teen and got my mom into tool and now she’s as big a fan as I am

Maudib1962

A round of applause from all those who have failed at that very task. 👏👏👏 I tip my hat to you!

Dispositionpsn

When are tool fans going to learn that no one will "get you to like tool". It just happens, and sometimes it doesn't. It's not complicated.

sPinzon

My parents haha

as1126

My son absolutely got into Tool because of me. We have been to shows together.

Soft-Ad6647

I’ve taken 3 of my 4 kids.

360Tailwhip

My kids, 21 and 18, have been listening since they were in the womb. My daughter’s first concert at 13 was Tool in Atlanta.

Glad-Cat-1885

I’m 19 trying to get my mom into tool

Dichotopus

Tool is my favorite but I don't have kids. However, my new partner got their kid into all kinds of music, and just found a video of the kiddo years ago in a car seat rocking out, enthusiastically drumming to Danny's beats. Warmed my heart

toonchef

I've done the opposite, convinced my boomer Father to check them out. He was just sent Fear Inoculum and 10,000 Days for Father's Day and plans to see them in concert for the next tour.

bullize

My 9 year old daughter can sing nearly every song time tool, apc, and puscifer. Of course, she doesn't say the bad words, though, lol

heymohoh

When I took my first born home, I played Schism and H in the car, 10 years later I'm still trying to make him listen haha

Swift0CE

My Dad

GroundbreakingLet464

My oldest and only kid at 16 years old has seen Tool three times now. Happy he loves the same music I do. He’s going to his first Phish shows in July! Alpine!! Raise them to love it all folks, music makes the soul stronger.

Jackstraw335

My kiddos are still young, so while I couldn't say I've gotten them "into" TOOL.....they can recognize any Maynard song and know it's him singing. And they get down and jam with me every now and again. I took my 8 year old son to Sessanta as his first concert. Last night he was singing "The Outsider" in the shower 😂.

alanabanana29

My eldest son who just turned 3 will sing Eulogy. To try lighten the mood when his baby brother cries I sing 'he had a lot to say..' and so on. My boy now often comes out with 'he had a lot to say - we'll miss him' and 'he was SO loud'. He has only just learnt to talk, it's so awesome 🤘. Can't wait to show him more over the years

TheJohn_John

My mom did because she told me about her cool friend being a big fan of TOOL then played Schism in the car I was hooked from them on, immediately became a favorite band of mine

TenyaIida_

Honestly the visuals probably, that's what got me into tool so young. Plus I have a general taste for certain sounds and vocals idk

MeatCocktail

My 14yo daughters favorite band!

MrPeterMerkin

All 3 of mine are into all 3 of the bands Maynard is in. People probably hate us. We don't care.

Maudib1962

Why hate? His voice is so amazing. It's like an instrument and if you can only hear it in 3 forms well then I'll take it. I've been a fan of APC since day one and I love the contrast of Pusifcer.

CommanderMahob

My 4 year old is a fan. Not his go to band - that’s the clash at the minute - but can recognise them and enjoys them. My 1 year old used to be put to sleep to Right In Two and Wings. I have high hopes!

Maudib1962

You'll love this then... Check out all 3 on the channel although Right in Two is my fav. [Right in Two](https://youtu.be/3uFFg4cfP-I?si=9aoPaudRWcIkCPcZ)

Dwnwrdsprlout

“be quiet so i can enjoy it” is so fucking hilarious. that’s me with my friends lmao also my dad doesn’t have reddit but he got me into tool. he listened to a lot of lateralus and 10,000 days when i was a kid (3-7). went to both of our first tool show last year and sessanta (which were both badass)

Medium_Dimension9602

Got my son who is now 20 to go to his 1st live shoe last fall, he loved it!

MrQuacksIsCool

For me it was the other way around I loved TOOL and my brother liked some of their songs (I’m still in the process of converting him) but we went to see them live this month and he loved it!

dotwowans

My oldest dude is a tool fan. Was chuffed when I brought him back a hoodie from the last concert I was at. Will take him to the next tour, but this recent one was just for me and my partner - for the romance and stuff.

ZestycloseMight8832

Yes my 2 6 and 7 year old all love tool

JustLucca

I got my parents into TOOL, now we all worship Danny :)

rahnbj

My oldest daughter is 27, she is finishing up her PhD in microbiology at SUNY Stony Brook, 2 years ago (the night before Russia invaded Ukraine), I met her in Queens and we saw Tool. She’s been inundated with Floyd, Zeppelin, Tool and the like since she was born and loves them all, and I’m so glad I got a chance to see Tool with her. Now I’m shooting for getting my youngest (23) to go with me. Provided there’s more touring at some point

WrathOfCroft

My kids rip on the length of the songs but my oldest daughter actually hums along and grooves when they rotate in my Playlist, lol

BakedSpiral

I'm 18 and TOOL is my favorite band, although I found them on my own without my dad telling me about them. He did also listen to them when he was around my age.

Palindromey

My dad introduced me to Tool, I fell in love and soon became more obsessed than him. I took him to the show in Perth when they toured Australia last (2020) and it was an incredible experience to have together. Then I jetted off solo and went to all the other shows in Australia (he was shocked but impressed with my commitment). He was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer so I don't think we'll get another opportunity to see them again. Which makes me so grateful we were able to see Tool together even once, makes the experience and memories even more special. I was lucky to score a signed poster from that gig and it's framed in my living room to remind me :)

AcrobaticCatIAm

Me! He's 19 now but his first arena concert was Tool and we had a blast. My 16 year old also enjoys them.

Willyse

I am trying to get my dad into it. He loves Phil Collins, I know I'll get him to love Danny Boy someday.

Maudib1962

Yeah. It's an art to find the right song for the right person cause you just need.to get them into one then it starts to fall like dominos.

Willyse

The hardest part is when I mention it's metal. So much people are uncomfortable listening to "metal". Even though Tool is so much more than just a genre.

Maudib1962

I sleep to TOOL, it doesn't feel like metal to me. If anyone asks I call it music. It doesn't fit in any real genre. Back in the day at record stores it was a.paim to find. It could be in Rock. Metal. Alternative. Seen it in Goth, Punk just really a where's Waldo scenario.

Familiar_Cucumber74

Got my 14 year old daughter into Tool. Took her to her first concert last November. Tool is now on every one of her play lists. She has now gotten a few of her friends into Tool as well. My work as a parent is done, musically, that is.

Maudib1962

Getting her friends into Tool I'm finding is a hard one. My son keeps trying to expose them to good music but it's a lot of wasted effort. Good for her to succeed at that. The more the merrier.

Familiar_Cucumber74

Her one friend was into metal, ...slipknot, Korn, Rob Zombie, and a few other bands. So she was pretty easy . The other was a guy in the marching band drum line. She took a pic of Danny's kit from the concert and set in to him, then she had him watch the Pnuema drum cam video on YouTube and he was hooked.

Maudib1962

Danny has moved up to mythical proportions since that video was released. I love the mad respect he has now as a result. Well deserved.

laxgolf

For me I just had Tool on often (along with everything else I listed to in the early 90’s) and one of my kids just became a gigantic fan of all things grunge + tool. So far we’ve seen RATM, Pearl Jam and Tool together.

AgreeableSolid7193

My two kids and later my stepson all three had their first concert experience at a tool show. I now realize that may be aetting the bar a lityle high..lol. i took my daughter to see smashing pumpkins and janes addiction to which she said.." there were no visuals at all." I first saw tool in 1997 and have been hooked ever since so they all grew up with me having posters in the mancave and a ridiculous amount of tshirts...

Existing-Carrot8421

I took my stepdaughter to Tool in Dallas in 2009 for her 16th birthday. She took me to a show in Denver in 2022.

Ronnie_Mcnutt_rifle

My dad got me into TOOL

SADANISTA

My son has been into tool since he was a baby! I played it on repeat when I was pregnant and he’s now 3 & knows so many songs. He hums them & it’s the cutest thing. I’m going to start filtering out some songs though Edit: he really likes Primus too :)

TheKaminette

I’m 28, my dad showed me the Sober music video when I was 13 and I’ll never forget that moment. We went to see Tool together when they toured for Fear Innoculum :)

Agm0066

I’ve gotten my teenage daughter into them slightly. I’ve been trying since I was pregnant with her lol.. She likes some APC as well. I’ve gotten her to listen to a lot of rock/some metal & she loves going to concerts with me now. She likes Lamb of God so that’s a win 🤣

Maudib1962

You just need to get a start and pardon the pun but then she will spiral out and open her third eye.

GrandpaTheBand

Got my nephew and son into Tool. Neither are as big a fan as I am, but they recognize the greatness.

Exotic_Raspberry8483

Both my parents where hard core tool fans my whole life, my dad had every cd and more shirts than you could imagine. my mom took me and my brother to a tool concert right after my dad had passed and now it’s just an all around favorite band in the family, and now I’ve got my boyfriend into it so i guess we’re passing it on lol

Hungry_Release1028

My daughter likes some of the Tool songs, but not early stuff life Opiate or Undertow. Half of most albums other than them. She likes Flood and Swamp Song off Undertow, because she associates them with her anxiety.

runonandonandonanon

It wasn't hard.

sunnylosingsanity

Let me share the perspective of the kid that got into Tool because of a parent. Whenever my dad was giving me a lift to school, the music that played was always chosen by him. It was kind of clear that I wasn't participating in the process of choosing songs in the car. He was always interested in what type of music I listen to and made sure I don't listen to any crap. After everyday car rides and a ton of great music to hear, including Tool, I actually started jamming along. Soon after, Tool became my favourite band. So basically, all my dad did was introduce me to good music ever since I was a child, and always showed interest in what I listen to.

vault_boy57

I am the son of a tool fan, I am 17 and they are my favorite band...

XAustinCooperX

My son who is 9 likes them :)

charliesname

My son (9) always hums with me when I play the intro to Lateralus on guitar (it happens alot) and he says he enjoy the song but that's it so far.

MoksWhips

Mother introduced me with Ænima. Now I have to introduce her to Lateralus, 10000 Days and Fear Inoculum (she stopped listening to TOOL after Ænima idk why)

tywitten

Well I'm only 17 and don't have any kids lol but I've managed to get my little brother into tool and apc

the-aural-alchemist

Kids “liking” the same things as their parents?! Never heard of such a phenomenon.

mysticalcreeds

I'm a newer fan of Tool but have been able to get both my kids into them. My youngest its his favorite band, and my oldest he has a lot of songs he likes

OdinsDrengr

My 6 year old loves Fear Inoculum and Pneuma, but those are the only two he knows by name. He likes a lot of the other songs too.

Maudib1962

Start 'em young!

CompetitiveLead2036

Took my 21 yo daughter to FI in Birmingham and she had heard them but largely ignored them. I knew when she saw them live her opinion would change it did we have a new fan!! There is just something about them live that makes them better than everyone not only the lights the lasers, and all that but the pristine quality of the sound of the music is amazing and unequalled. No one can play as perfectly as they can live that I have ever seen and I doubt I ever will see there’s a couple of bands. I have on my bucket list besides tool which I’m seeing six times that I haven’t seen that I think will be pristine and as good Musically quality and they couldn’t be more different. The national and Sigur Rós.
