Try the OG bulletin forums on ADV. Bought and sold 6 adventure bikes through there. No tire-kickers on there whatsoever. They have a section specific for "classified/trade/swap" you'll find useful.
Not sure where you're located, but I sold my last bike through a consignment shop. I didn't have to worry about dealing with scammers, no-shows, tire kickers or any of of it. I signed some paperwork, and they took care of all the legal stuff. They ended up selling it for more than asking. It was all worth the cut they took out of the final sale.
He may have misspoke - but I'll back him up on the fact that it's not relevant anymore at least in Midwest USA. I've listed some really nice bikes on there before realizing it's not what it once was - not a single message. Lots of exposure via marketplace and fb groups.
That’s unfortunate. **Cycle Trader** is a great way to cast as wide of a net as you like - from nationwide USA to only within just 10-miles. Sometimes it’s helpful to compare prices and availability in another region vs just within a few hundred miles.
I listed a bike on Cycle Trader yesterday and was contacted throughout the day by various scam attempts. Mostly idiots requesting vehicle history reports and trying to get you to pay for it so they get the money through a phishing website.
So scammers are abusing the public listings visible on Cycle Trader. That’s very different from Cycle Trader itself being a scam of some sort. Scammers will always be able to abuse any publicly available listings.
He said "throughout the day." Semantics aside, it sounds like it is a pain and I would avoid it. Sure, you can have success with anything. However, I don't blame him for trying to avoid problems up front.
That cycle trader itself isn’t a scam. When I read the post title I wondered if there was some news I didn’t know about, like them ripping off customers or whatever.
as i mentioned in my post, i paid like $85 for 12 weeks of listing. 5 weeks in i've gotten a total of 6 scammers that have contacted me and barely more views. I am not pricing out of the market.
I’ve always just used the free listing option and then submitted a new, identical listing when the previous one runs out. No cost and never had a problem (but the last bike I sold was three years ago so scammers may have evolved since then).
“I only have this $20k check from Nigeria. Send me the difference and you can keep the bike until the check clears plus keep $1,000 for your trouble. *Because I trust you*.” 🤦🏼♂️
Just sold on FB marketplace a few days ago. Had someone else post for me cause don't have an account. Craigslist got some good leads ended up regretting not taking an initial offer from there. CycleTrader paid for a 6 week posting and got zero. Support sucks. Their value estimator had a near $2k diff from model to vin for the same bike. Made no sense. Cycle trader for buying from dealers but not private sellers imo. Bought the replacement bike from Cycle Trader

Unfortunately FB Marketplace has supplanted CL for general classifieds - even though it has the **absolute worst** UI.

Thank you. Your reply has been one of the most helpful.

This is the way I have gone the last few years. Found a great shop with some awesome people, it's so much better than selling myself.
As in just a general consignment shop? Or a bike-specific shop that sells bikes on consignment?
A bike specific one. Seattle Used Bikes. They also do service and storage.
Where are you located?
CT
Check out Facebook marketplace
I've sold multiple motor bikes in FB marketplace without to many issues.
In what way is Cycle Trader “a total scam”? I’ve used it to both buy and sell motorcycles without any issues.

Okay and your point is? Lol

Marketplace, it’s the only reason I even have a Facebook
Sold two bikes to Rumble On. Probably a bit less than selling privately but they wired my money and sent someone to pick them up
FB marketplace and groups that allow are the place anymore I think. I've had pretty good luck on there.
For buying used bikes, I use cycle trader, Craig’s List, and Facebook marketplace equally.
FB marketplace
I’d buy it if I didn’t already have one.

Well where do you suggest ?
I’d try FB or MCN.
