Pickup trucks can drive on any road a regular car can. Dump trucks actually have trouble fitting some roads, but are usually under 12ft. Truck routes are never directed towards pickups as far as I know. It’s not always just about height either. I gross 80k pounds with a full load in a tri-axle dump. I drive through rural Pennsylvania and there’s lots of bridges, most of which are well under a 40 ton weight limit.
The signs are wrong, being generous lots of times - I made a 11’2 bridge, with my Pete and land all trailer - I actually got out of the truck and walked to the other side of the bridge to see if I could make it underneath ( I get paid by the hour) so I didn’t mind if I held up traffic 👍🏼
Ya there was a place I used to pick up and in the directions it had a sentence that said
" bridge says 13" 2' but you can go under it "
I drove regular 13"6' truck...
I recently received directions that said "bridge sign says 3.90m but you can fit under it!" I'm 4m and paid hourly, so you bet your ass I took a detour lmao
Most “regular 13’6” trucks” are actually 12’8” if you actually measure them at the tip of the trailer when it’s empty inside the dry van. Probably depends on many things. I had 11r22.5 when I measured my truck (it had 3.9 meters of height) international prostar highway cab with a dryvan 53” empty
Plus, just because they're both on that one post doesn't mean they both go to the same place. My interpretation would be that there's going to be another sign for truck route brings you around the low clearance.
Did food service for a year
You learn which signs and bridges are higher than posted. It's always a gamble though.
How bad do you want to end up on here or bone head truckers?
Just crawl under it and drop tractor suspension when you tap the bridge at crawling speed lol. That’s what I did once on an unfamiliar 3.9 meter bridge
I've been screwed over by those truck route signs. Followed them straight to a bridge that only had 8t weight limit. The only 8t bridge ahead sign was at a Y in the road and since the road I was on said "truck route" I figured the 8t bridge was on the other road.
while I obviously wouldn't blindly run down a road w/o knowing, I have been on a Truck Route recently (think it was PA) where, on the route, there was a short bridge sign....the actual bridge was like a mile ahead on the road I was on, but the actual Truck Route turned left like a quarter mile before you woulda hit the bridge :p
Are you in NY? Signs are usually posted at 1 ft below what the actual clearence is accounting for snow
Also never trust signs. Never know if they've repaved and the signs are no longer accurate. Always be cautious
My truck requires 12.5, so this doesn't work 😒. I was once in a town where there were multiple bridges that were like this. Just taunting! It took me a long time to find my way around to make the delivery.
There's a smart answer. I had to do that to a place in Connecticut gps and maps wanted me to go under a 11'3 bridge. I circled about 4 times on actual route on the phone and they explained I needed to go left at the bridge and right over the train tracks half mile down and next right and the enterance would be there. Glad I called just wished they would have said how tight it was. Had to go back and fourth three times to get in the gate.
Even if the sign is wrong, it's better to he safe than sorry. Once caused a traffic jam outside toronto because nobody would let me over. Had to stop dead in the middle for someone to let me move a lane. Sign said right lane was 13 foot 4. Wasnt going to chance it.
Yes, I've been there as well. Doesn't Toronto use the metric system?
I was able to merge into the middle lane before I got too close. I had to force my way over since turn signals mean nothing to 4 wheelers.
I had my signal on for about 10 minutes before i had to stop. Saw the signs saying "low bridges right lane" and wanted to move over in advance. People didnt let me. And they do use metric. I just converted it since most people on here are probably american and use imperial
Trucker towing a backhoe on a lowboy took out our bridge for several days. Backhoe was in an up position and struck several supports when he crossed. They are trying to blame a tree branch or something
Run mixer locally in New York State. These signs suck. I’m 13’3” ish and run under viaducts and train trestles marked 12’8 all the time. However in the town I run in there are some marked low that I can’t fit under. Ask me how I know…
Certainly they wouldn’t build a truck that would take out a bridge. And, never would they build a bridge to take out a truck. What is the USA? Dumb?
My money is on the snow route sign.
i touched a bridge with a car on a car carrier at 14’1 once, i was towing it, otherwise i would have dropped it much lower lol, it wouldn’t move and it was an old volvo so it was already a huge pain to tow. i had to adjust truck and trailer air ride to get it to 14’1 without scrapping or dragging 🤣🤣 only took out an antenna on a copart auction car, so who’s really counting?
I know the top of my truck is exactly 12' at its highest point. I don't trust anything displaying up to 12' 3" without poking it with a tape measure and a stick.
Just cause it's a truck route doesn't mean it's your truck route. Lol
Depending on how you interpret "open the trailer", it might be the perfect truck route!
Nothing like a fresh can of tuna
That's fair.
Maybe it’s referring to pickup trucks.
Yes, I do know. I was JK.
Lowrider truck
I trust the sign that can save you a very cheap flattop haircut
U ain't bullshitn 👍🏼
I'm a local tanker, I can fit under that
It’s such a nice benefit
Not gonna sit here and say I’m jealous or anything but lucky lol
What's your height? Is it the stacks or the tank. I think my roll off empty is 11.8 but I forget

They aren't conflicting signs. Not all trucks are 13 6.
Plus, just because they're both on that one post doesn't mean they both go to the same place. My interpretation would be that there's going to be another sign for truck route brings you around the low clearance.
Without additional context, I'd hate to be explaining my "interpretation" to my Safety department!
lol im turning away and staying far away from that. its a trap for suee
Did food service for a year You learn which signs and bridges are higher than posted. It's always a gamble though. How bad do you want to end up on here or bone head truckers?
Neither, I turned left and went on my way.
Just crawl under it and drop tractor suspension when you tap the bridge at crawling speed lol. That’s what I did once on an unfamiliar 3.9 meter bridge
I trust the sign. It's a 12'0" truck route :p
Exactly 💀
If you have a flat bed.. no problem. If you want a flat bed .. no problem
🤣
Just speed up for that smooth flatbed cut.
Neither. I would pull over and gotten out and measured it.
I assumed you'd measured already, before you made it your username?
Except they used the wrong side and it's really centimeters lol
No, he used inches alright, but it's 12 inches from his asshole, same as the cat's.
I keep 5 taped together yard sticks in my sleeper for this reason
Yo this is genius but idk how you fit it inside ur sleeper unless you tape them together on the go
I’m only 4 inches ☹️
Hey at least you can fit under all the bridges. Wait we're still talking truck height, right?
The easiest way to measure is pulling your truck up to the bridge, and if the bridge is 1ft 6inches from the top, then yes, it's 12 feet high.
Gotta pull up really close though, maybe even nudge it to be sure.
Give it a love tap before backing off from it lol
No different than bumping the dock, right?
Why get out and measure? Unless you stop at the street before getting to the bridge. Also u might as well check the weight as well xD
That’s when you squeeze your butt checks together and hope for the best. Fucking send it
🤣 no, I like my truck in one piece.
What sign!? LeeRoy Jenkins!!!
🤣🫡
If you have to ask just don’t.
I'll trust the 12 ft sign. That street already looks suspicious.
Agreed.
I've been screwed over by those truck route signs. Followed them straight to a bridge that only had 8t weight limit. The only 8t bridge ahead sign was at a Y in the road and since the road I was on said "truck route" I figured the 8t bridge was on the other road.
There might be another sign that tells you to make another turn before the low clearance. This is when google street view comes in handy!
Yeah, that's what I thought, but I took another route.
Good choice! I would have done the same if I didn't have the appropriate navigational tools [or time to look it up] ! Good job driver.
Or not. There are plenty of trucks that'll fit under that. Not every truck pulls a 13'6" van.
Also be aware that some areas measure based off of snow pack during winter! New york is notorious for this practice, apparently.
Pittsburgh is good for this. RT 8 (Washington blvd) takes you to a 13’ bridge.
Neither.
It's a truck route... until it isn't.
while I obviously wouldn't blindly run down a road w/o knowing, I have been on a Truck Route recently (think it was PA) where, on the route, there was a short bridge sign....the actual bridge was like a mile ahead on the road I was on, but the actual Truck Route turned left like a quarter mile before you woulda hit the bridge :p
I know exactly where that is. There's another on 81 or 76 one of them heading to Pittsburgh that shows short and the bridge at the top of cliffs.
I think that was the case here as well. But I turned left so I am not sure.
Imma trust that 12 feet sign
Only sign I trust there is the snow route sign
Nope, better safe than sorry
Are you in NY? Signs are usually posted at 1 ft below what the actual clearence is accounting for snow Also never trust signs. Never know if they've repaved and the signs are no longer accurate. Always be cautious
No, I was in Morris, IL. I always slow down and turn on my 4 ways, then creep. But this time, I turned left and took another route
That's a good idea man. Better off then ending up as a "my third day" or "too much fireball this morning" kinda post
Cough "GWB."
That sign is definitely not 12 feet high. It lies.
No problem for the midroof flatbeds going to the lumber yard.
My truck requires 12.5, so this doesn't work 😒. I was once in a town where there were multiple bridges that were like this. Just taunting! It took me a long time to find my way around to make the delivery.
None of them and turn around
What is this? A truck route for ants?
Yeah, if the ants are driving the large number of flatbeds and tankers that would fit under this.
Clearance sign, im re routing even if it means taking an extra hr
I ain’t arguing with that 12 foot sign.
Happy cake day to you!
Thanks!
Whelp time to panic, stop if I can and call the place for directions
There's a smart answer. I had to do that to a place in Connecticut gps and maps wanted me to go under a 11'3 bridge. I trust the bridge sign. Someone is playing fuck fuck games and I don't like fuck fuck games
Seems legit. Someone should pressure wash that sign.
Thank god the height is the dominant sign here. If you still hit the bridge, you shouldn't be driving anyway.
Uhhhh something seems off here.
Even if the sign is wrong, it's better to he safe than sorry. Once caused a traffic jam outside toronto because nobody would let me over. Had to stop dead in the middle for someone to let me move a lane. Sign said right lane was 13 foot 4. Wasnt going to chance it.

At the top of the black and white sign in very small print it may say “pickup”
Fine print is where they get you.
I drive a box truck that is 11'6", it looks like a truck route to me.
Trucker towing a backhoe on a lowboy took out our bridge for several days. Backhoe was in an up position and struck several supports when he crossed. They are trying to blame a tree branch or something

Low-ri-der!!!!! 🎶
The 12.0 sign
The 12 foot sign
It's a truck route for anyone under 12 feet which is most trucks, if you're taller than that you should know
That's funny. I'm just waiting to see a no trucks sign underneath the truck route sign. It has to be out there..
Certainly they wouldn’t build a truck that would take out a bridge. And, never would they build a bridge to take out a truck. What is the USA? Dumb? My money is on the snow route sign.
Time ta flip a……
Well i been needing some time off so I guess I'll follow the wrong one
It's for Swift trucks.
What's next. A "NO TRUCKS " sign above a truck route sign?
I trust the truck route sign but I'm not going because of the 12' sign
If it’s nyc, send it! You’ll fit
It was IL.
Oh hell no! Don’t send
Never *assume* noob!
Clearly, you’ve never driven on 95 or 479 through NYC
GWB enters the chat. Before and after showing 12'
Trust the sign at the bottom -that it is a snow emergency route.
Always the sign, unless I'm in new york
Unless it's new York. I go under 12.0 in ny
My flat top day cab with a flatbed would fit
Hahahahaha
" The sign said clearance to the 12-ft line but those chickens were stacked to 13 9"
It’s the truck route because the alternate route is even lower?
Your guess is as good as mine.
It's a truck route because plenty of trucks can fit under it.
What is this? A truck route for ants?
There are a crazy variety of trucks
Yes
🤣
Depends on if its ny
11’9” flatbed I’ll make it lol
I would fit.
None
I’m trusting the height sign, always!😂
My trucks sits 10 10. Full send lol
Flat bed route to steel yard
Both....truck route means the road is designed for the weight, height limits are max height that can get through.
Is this in New York?
IL.
Depends, am near 12’?
Imagine taking the no truck route and mad troopers just emerge from the bush like "gotchya!"
And if you do take the truck route and hit the bridge, the trooper will ask you why you ignored the height sign.
Lol
Depends, male measurement, that is massive and no need to worry. Female measurement, you will only meet failure.
Depends on if you want a little of the top and sides
Both can be true. Nothing to say that the truck route doesn't turn before the bridge.
I’m a vac setup or tanker without walkway I can fit with the day cab. Would still get out on first run through tho.
Pickup truck route
It's a truck route for little trucks.
Just deflate the tires. You'll make it.
Should say “small truck route “😀
12’
This just happened to me a couple hours ago, I trusted the 11.6 sign
Ouch how bad.
I'd trust that 12 ft sign and not even go through
I do roll off, I could fit under that, as long as I don’t have a 30..it’s 11 feet tall with a 30 but I don’t trust it lol
Gurrrl, don’t go there
I definitely trust the lowest indicated height.
Neither.
Top
Rip to the fire stick, I’m taking the dump truck under 😂
I'll look down the street, if I don't see a another sign indicating that the truck route changes direction, then I am believing the height sign.
I’d take a pic and find a different route, if they said something about it id show them the picture.
i touched a bridge with a car on a car carrier at 14’1 once, i was towing it, otherwise i would have dropped it much lower lol, it wouldn’t move and it was an old volvo so it was already a huge pain to tow. i had to adjust truck and trailer air ride to get it to 14’1 without scrapping or dragging 🤣🤣 only took out an antenna on a copart auction car, so who’s really counting?
12' sign lol
Duh let the GPS decide for you
I know the top of my truck is exactly 12' at its highest point. I don't trust anything displaying up to 12' 3" without poking it with a tape measure and a stick.
I'm 10'10". Hammer down.
Lol
Approved for short trucks lol And I don't mean length
There’s no way that’s a snow route! There’s absolutely no snow in that picture! Jeeeeezz🙄. /s
For a moment it said “truckle”
NONE. Do your own research
might be talking about the lowest point on s bridge or arch, but that you can totally get under if you pay attention
Sorry guys but I just got to."here's your sign" from Bill Be careful out there there's joker in your ride in a fool on your left
I like to live dangerously so it’s a truck route.
Depends, is it in New York?
You will get that ticket. So I guess leave one
Its a Yellow truck route
Umm, both signs are valid. OP i know you found it funny but you might wanna look into your cdl again, like the laws and stuff you know
Ok.
Neither
I trust the Snow Route sign
12 foot is the only one that should matter to you.
Yes
Local hay hauler and I drive through no truck signs. Fuck your HOA
Neither is the correct answer lol
Me no likey likey.
That’s a tough one. What the heck let’s give it a shot
I trust the snow route
I almost got stuck on the bridge, but there was a gas station before the bridge so I had to make U turn there
