Evanescence was raised Christian, and Tourniquet was actually their cover of the song. The original band that wrote it was Soul Embraced, a Christian metal band. At least one of its members was friends with Evanescence and played with them a bit.
For a while I was convinced Depeche Mode were a Christian band. They even had an album called 'Songs of Faith and Devotion' and a song called 'Personal Jesus'. It turns out they are not a Christian band, but just borrow Christian imagery to deal with Christian-adjacent themes. Does that count?
I insist on Christians listening to music written by musicians who happen to be Christian, rather than Christian music. There’s so many edifying pieces of music out there that aren’t explicitly labeled Christian that we as Christians should be enjoying and studying.
That's why I went with Man in Black. It was either written by Johnny or June to my memory, and is a song that portrays christian values and mentions Christ in around about way, without being expressly about the gospel
"My Sacrifice" by Creed. A few songs by them actually. They have explicitly said they're not a Christian band and their songs aren't Christian but.....
"Best Friend" by Yelawolf ft Eminem. It's actually about Jesus/God/Holy Spirit but with a little cussing. I do love it though.
"You Got a Friend in Me" by Randy Newman (toy story song)
"Lean On Me" Bill Withers
Jesus is very cool, so i just go with Doom music thinking about second coming
Also Choir music goes well, epic music, orchestral music, phonk music, eberything reminds me of him
He is a Christian, don't know enough about the rest of his band, but they are a secular band as they are not a part of the Christian music industry. They're signed to Big Machine Records.
Hear me out…What I’ve Been Looking For from High School Music.
I will ALWAYS remember watching that movie when I was 10 and my dad saying during this number, “Hmm..this song could be about Christ too!”. Hearing it now gets me a lil emotional and I love it so much. If you read the lyrics, it could totally be a Christian song!!
Audioslave- I am the highway/ be yourself/ set it off/ show me how to live/ light my way/
Soundgarden- halfway there
(Seriously- Check out audioslave, soundgarden and Chris Cornell’s solo stuff)
Prince- I would die for you
Bill Withers- Lean on me
Simon and Garfunkel- Bridge over troubled water
Coldplay- speed of sound
U2- New Year’s Day
I think that music is all about your own interpretation and if I can relate to the song as if Christ is speaking through it then I find lots of value in that and it immediately makes my playlist.
I hate the thought of “as Christian we can only listen to worship music and anything that K-love plays”… I don’t like a lot of the songwriting within that genre either. But there’s a lot of it that I love too.
She's a Christian artist. Like youth groups would promote her as the Christian equivalent to Mandy Moore or Michelle Branch.
Which is funny because I would describe Everywhere by Michelle Branch as the definition of what OP's looking for.
- San Pacho, House Divided - Workaholic
- Dr. Dog - The Truth
- Tame Impala - When the Feelings in the Core
- King Gizzard & The Wizard Lizard - God is in the Rhythm
- Loverground - My Love is True
- Sugar Candy Mountain - Windows
- Gorillaz - Don’t get lost in heaven
"My Curse" by Killswitch Engage.
I believe it's a breakup song, but the chorus makes me think of my relationship with God, how I keep favoring things that are not him despite his infinite mercy. I imagine it's God speaking straight to me.
*There is love, burning to find you. Will you wait for me?*
Gimme Shelter-Rolling Stones
Sympathy for the Devil-Also the stones
Neither is explicitly Christian but both make me think about the world in a spiritual manner
You know what one really surprisingly somewhat has a Gospel message? Let her go - by Passenger
People don’t know what they have or how good they have it before it’s gone. Some people need to experience the Fall (Sin in the of Garden of Eden) to know the Good (Eternal life and relationship with God in Eden). It’s from the bad experiences that magnify the Good. They only know God and how good, faithful, loving, caring He was before they let Him go. I’m certain people in Hell are crying out with sheer and utter regret, knowing how good they even had it in Earth, let alone how Good it is in Heaven. They only know the Lover of their soul when they let Him go, Jesus Christ.
Well creed and theire songs like one last breath, my sacrifice, higher, with arms wide open, but one that remind me of God all the time is my own prison.
Hymn 43 by Jethro Tull
Jesus Christ by Brand New
In My Time of Dying by Led Zeppelin
Jesus is Just Alright by the Doobie Brothers
Spirit in the Sky by Norman Greenbaum
American Pie by Don McLean
Chamber of reflection references a Masonic ritual room according to this:
https://neonmusic.co.uk/chamber-of-reflection-mac-demarcos-song-of-isolation-and-self-discovery/
Plus I think Macs grandparent or great grandparent was a Freemason which threw me off for a while.
I recall a Christian singer who would do songs from the 50s and 60s like “My Guy” aa “My God.” They later did that in Sister Act, with Whoopie Goldberg.
He's a Friend of Mine by Eddie Kendricks was a very popular disco song, and quite catchy, despite literally being about his experience having a heart attack and praying to Jesus.
Unshaken - D’Angelo (mainly the chorus speaking of Christian faith “may I, stand unshaken. Amid, amidst a crashing world”
Crystal Express - Raury (always thought of it as a reincarnation song, but listening through a Christian lens makes me really see some elements of it there. “Pray we find a way, to the sun” which I like to change the spelling to son in this case
Telekinesis by Travis Scott made me double check the lyrics upon listening to it for the first time for this reason!! But I guess it was first written to be a gospel song, then he ended up being the one to release it. Definitely not a gospel song after it reached him and sza though
Me and my wife were driving in a drop to overseas looking at the sunset/big puffy clouds. Ashes of Eden by Breaking Benjamin was playing and she started testifying. It does sound like a good song and doesn’t have really any bad stuff I think.
All of the ones I listen to do, yes. Heavy metal stuff by Periphery, Bring me the Horizon, Tesseract, etc. all good music makes me think about Him, the Kingdom, or end times.
There are a few twenty one pilots songs I would put in this category:
Addict with a Pen
Holding onto You
Trees
Then there are songs that seem to be more of a reflection of themselves in relation to God:
The Judge
Not Today
Screen
Maybe I read too much into it, but these songs have really made me think about God in and they’ve helped me in my faith journey
For some reason The Beginning by Flawed Mangoes. It’s instrumental but I think it’s because I listened to it around the time i started to become a Christian
Ok hear me out...
Alien by Katy Perry
I'd always imagine it from Mary magdelanes perspective as that's thr only way she'd know how to love a man so deeply
Also dig by incubus reminds me of one another relationships
Bink's sake from one piece.
Solely the instrumental version where it's just the violin..
Something about it is so calming and peaceful..
Rain: simply 3.
This one is easy... It's just beautiful music that is calming.
Too many to list if I'm being honest .
Don't You Worry Child by Swedish House Mafia, Sugar by Beach Fossils, Forever Until by Dogbite, Take on Me by a-ha, Milk & Black Spiders by Foals, Come Back Home by Two Door Cinema Club, I Wanna Go by Summer Heart & Sleeping Child by Michael Learns to Rock 🥰✝️
Like a Stone by Audioslave
He’s clearly searching for Christ, even if he doesn’t realize it. He wants to get to heaven but he knows he’s not good enough. Even compares himself to pagans, he knows he’s doing things the wrong way.
Vienna by Billy Joel (sans the lyric “Don’t you know that only fools are satisfied” bc I’m pretty sure the Bible talks a LOT about contentment hahaha).
God has spoken to me with this one in times I was rushing hard to achieve goals I wanted to achieve—Him calling me to slow down and wait on His promises and His plans to come to fruition and His timing instead of my timing.
Jimmy Eat World - Hear You Me
Foo Fighters - What if I do?
(I always missheard "what if I do love" as "what if I do lord")
Alice in Chains - Heaven Beside You
Deftones - Minerva
(the chorus literally includes the phrase "God bless you all")
System of a Down - Chop Suey
(a very well known rock song that is so obviously speaking about Christ on the cross; "self-righteous suicide"; "I cry when angels deserve to die"; "why have you forsaken me?")
J. Cole - Apparently
311 - Beyond the Gray Sky
While I do enjoy these two songs, and I can't speak for the rest of them, I'm not sure I totally agree with Minerva and Chop Suey.
Minerva is clearly a reference to the Roman goddess, not our God. It's seems to be a song about female singers in general (and equating them to goddesses because of their beautiful singing). Deftones, as well as Chino Moreno's other bands tends to write a lot of songs about women in this regard, so that wouldn't be out of the ordinary.
Chop Suey has a lot of references to Christ, but ultimately seems to be about abuse, addiction, and mostly obviously suicide and how it impacts our perception of people who commit it. That last part was said nearly word-for-word by their guitarist Daron Malakian in an interview.
I’m really into BTS lately, and a lot of their songs remind me of Christ, even though they’re not Christian. “Anpanman” is about a superhero that saves people by giving them pieces his own body to eat, which is like a type of Christ. The “ON” MV has several images referring to biblical events: Noah’s ark, Tae as Christ on the cross, Crown of thorns, except ok JK’s wrists. “Mama”, where as J-Hope honors his mother, he performs it with a robed choir behind him and a stained glass screen including a cross. “Save Me” -it’s the title obviously, but it could also refer to Christ if you want it to. “Spring Day” is a very sad song referring to the death of a best friend, especially in the Sewol ferry tragedy, which always makes me think of seeing lost loved ones in heaven again. “Mikrokosmos “ speaks about all of our souls being like shining stars, which reminds me of when God told Abraham his children would be as numerous as the stars in the sky, and for Christians to let their lights shine brightly for others to see Christ in us. I never thought I would like rap so much, but “UGH!” Speaks about a righteous type of anger against those who hate for no reason. Jimin’s song, “Christmas Love” could actually be referring to Christ, and it reminds me of the love of Christ. Their “My Universe” collaboration with Coldplay has a lot of lyrics which you could actually sing with God in mind. “Jamais Vu” lyrics make me hopeful that it is their (Jin, J-Hope, and JK) prayer to be saved and given a remedy for their pain. “Come Back Home” is a song which reminds me of the prodigal son parable. “NOT TODAY” makes me want to stand up and fight against the devil. “Yet to Come” reminds me to look to the future and that our best moment is yet to come. “Best of Me” speaks of eternity, devoting myself to someone who saved me, knowing that they’ll never change.
Need You Now by Lady Antebellum. While it is about a romantic love between man and woman, I think you can infer our hunger and desperation for God in that song.
The Reason by Hoobastank. Not sure if they're a Christian band. I feel like if the word "you" was changed to God, Christ, or Jesus that it would fit perfectly in the lyrics.
"Don't Forget" from Deltarune. It's super short but is beautiful and reminds me of the light of Christ that shines within us and comforts us when we're stuck and wandering in the darkness.
“He Lives in You” from the Broadway Lion King production!
What a great song!!
Yes, I love that song!
Lifehouse is Christian music adjacent. But that’s not the song that puts them there. That song would be [Everything. (Trigger warning: 2000s cringe)](https://youtu.be/uFRYdGihOl4?si=XsCeRK-obzg_cmSr)
I love this song. 💕
I miss Human Videos.
In your eyes by Peter Gabriel.
Yea, I have to agree.
If I Ain’t got you - Alisha Keys
Lots of R&B songs remind me of my love for Jesus great choice
Rascal Flatts - I wont let go... This song ironically sounds like Christ talking to us...
To be fair, Gary LeVox and Jay Demarcus both grew up with a strong Christian background and Jay was even in a Christian band before Rascal Flatts.
Evanescence was raised Christian, and Tourniquet was actually their cover of the song. The original band that wrote it was Soul Embraced, a Christian metal band. At least one of its members was friends with Evanescence and played with them a bit.
“Magnificent” by U2.
U2’s edge and bono are both Christian. You’ll notice many of their songs are about faith if you look at the lyrics….
Goated album. Moment of surrender always takes me on a spiritual journey when I revisit
“Roll away your stone” and “thistle and weeds” by Mumford and Sons
Yes... Perfect choices to me ..
Annie’s Song by John Denver but replace Annie with Jesus
I was going to post this as well. I heard this done once and it was beautiful
Not Jesus per se, but certainly acting in a Christ-like way: Leave a Light On (Acoustic) by Tom Walker. I'm usually welling up by the last stanza...
Dave Matthews has a lot of Christian reference music. Bartender, Save Me, The Maker, to name a few. Mumford and Sons has a lot as well.
Isn't the lead singer Greek Orthodox?
"Stand By Me" - Ben E. King (kind of, the verses... Not the chorus)
Hurt by Johnny Cash. That song is devastating.
Nine Inch Nails/ Trent Reznor Though I agree, the Cash version is hauntingly iconic.
His other song The Man In Black
I insist on Christians listening to music written by musicians who happen to be Christian, rather than Christian music. There’s so many edifying pieces of music out there that aren’t explicitly labeled Christian that we as Christians should be enjoying and studying.

Me and God by Josh Turner
This Will Be(An Everlasting Love)--Natalie Cole
A lot of Twenty One Pilots songs. To name a few: Addict With A Pen, Taxi Cab, The Judge, Doubt
Twenty One Pilots are actually Christian, so they may as well have actually been about God
Oh, they definitely are. But I would still consider their music secular as they are not a solely Christian band.
Ah, makes sense.
Doubt 😭 the lyrics are so intense. also, Car Radio, the second verse, is interesting if you think about it in a religious context
Daughtry - Call your name.
Daughtry is Christian
He is a Christian, don't know enough about the rest of his band, but they are a secular band as they are not a part of the Christian music industry. They're signed to Big Machine Records.

Oh my goodness I can totally see that! :) Such a sweet song 💕✝️
Nickelback - Savin Me
oh thisssss—the lyrics read almost like a prayer
Audioslave- I am the highway/ be yourself/ set it off/ show me how to live/ light my way/ Soundgarden- halfway there (Seriously- Check out audioslave, soundgarden and Chris Cornell’s solo stuff) Prince- I would die for you Bill Withers- Lean on me Simon and Garfunkel- Bridge over troubled water Coldplay- speed of sound U2- New Year’s Day I think that music is all about your own interpretation and if I can relate to the song as if Christ is speaking through it then I find lots of value in that and it immediately makes my playlist. My Sweet, Sweet Lord - George Harrison
Isn’t this a religious song ?
Religious yes, but George Harrison practiced Eastern Mysticism and didn’t right that song for Christ.
Hmm this one reminds me more of hare krishna

Stacy Orrico

I see you - Leona Lewis The song is losely religious being in Avatar 1 but thinking about it with Christ in mind definitely hits different.
- San Pacho, House Divided - Workaholic - Dr. Dog - The Truth - Tame Impala - When the Feelings in the Core - King Gizzard & The Wizard Lizard - God is in the Rhythm - Loverground - My Love is True - Sugar Candy Mountain - Windows - Gorillaz - Don’t get lost in heaven

hero by nickelback reminds me of Jesus
Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen Walking in Memphis by Marc Cohn
I would not call 'Hallelujah' a secular song, since it's literally about Biblical characters.
It references them, not in a literal way, but as allegory. I love the song too, but I find it rather profane (in the original sense of the word).
Yeah, my least favorite line is "MAYBE there is a God above", not a Christian song
Yea, I agree. Definitely chaffs. I had a worship leader once try to ‘fix’ the lyrics to get in to a service. It didn’t set well.
Everything’s gonna be alright- Justin Bieber
I Turn to You - Christina Aguilera
