They are excellent pest control. I understand the aversion to snakes in general, but king snakes are specifically suited to [hunting and eating rattlesnakes](https://www.desertmuseum.org/books/nhsd_kingsnake.php), and rattlers know it. And as an added bonus all manner of other small creatures (mice, rats, lizards, etc).
Which is to say, if you dislike rattlesnakes more than *other* snakes, having king snakes around is actually a deterrent.
Ya thanks. I’m going to let it do its thing and hopefully keep out other critters. My wife is away on business and if I hadn’t investigated then I would probably end up with one in my bed. Lol
U gotta embrace the desert. Become one with the animals !!!! But not with the bark scorpions or monsoon toads!!! No im kidding i hate all bugs snakes LOL ive been stung by a bark scorpion in kitchen n i was ok luckily
I'm with you on these looking creepy, but they're VERY good to have around. I used to have one in my backyard for years and I never saw a rattlesnake the whole time. I'll take a creepy-noodle over a danger-noodle any day.
If you’re going to live in Tucson it’s time to get used to the wildlife. Seeing a snake pass through the yard is no different than seeing a bird or a squirrel. It’s not a big deal and leaving them alone is the best policy. Kingsnakes also eat rodents that can damage your vehicle or home. You’re lucky to have one around. 👍
We have had lots of types including kings, in the 30 years we have lived at speedway pantano area, but in the last 3 years getting Diamondbacks, one at the end of April and one a week ago. Needless to say the machete got them both. Felt kind of bad but they had to go...
Judging by your name, I’m guessing you’re a snake person, lol. Plisskin seemed way more scared of me than I was to it. I slowly and quietly walked about 10ft from it and it went into hiding under a large rock. Will Plisskin eventually move on or is this their territory. I have no dogs or children so my yard is pretty calm and quiet. I don’t mind him/her hanging out for a bit if other critters are kept at bay. I have noticed some old snake skin outside our backyard walls and some dirt that’s been moved around.
Yes I am a snake nerd. I just got off the phone from being interviewed about snakes in fact! He will most likely move on, but if he hangs out it will deter other snakes from visiting. I had the same species of Kingsnake cruise by the other day and I’ve been hoping to see him again to no avail. 🤷
I had a pet sitting client who had red-spotted toads breeding in her pool and the surrounding landscape for many years. Based on their success, it can’t be too terribly toxic for most animals.
I’ve always wondered that. Like ducks landing in pools. I’d imagine it’d affect amphibians mostly, I don’t think they’d tolerate it very well. Pure speculation though
King snake. They are non venomous constrictors that eat other snakes.

A fat one too. She's doing a great job of surviving.
That’s what I was hoping for. It looked darker than I saw in pictures and didn’t have the viper head. Well, there goes night swimming
This is a “grin and bear it” kind of snake. You are totally better off with it around than not!
It did seem pretty shy and hid under a rock when I got within 10ft. I guess the next step is to name it
Just had a little one move into my tomato plants, we named it Fredrick. Love the king snake.
New fear unlocked.
A lot of king snakes making the rounds on here lately. Love to see it.
Good snake 🐍
How cute
Lol. It wasn’t cute, it was the size of a sea serpent with lasers for eyes
King snakes won't bite you. Super gentle with humans.

As others have said, this one's a friend. Poor guy's probably trying to cool down a bit.

I wish I’d see a snake in my yard! I’ve lived in Tucson 3 years and only seen 1 live one on my property!
I’ve been lucky enough to have seen five different species in the last year here in our yard. If you live in town, you’ll be less likely to see any.

Naming him is the first step toward acceptance.
King snake. U could cuddle him and he wiuldnt bite. Great snakes to have around.
Hey OP! This COULD be an opportunity for you to befriend the snake. Just sayin’…
Good call. I just brought it a margarita
My kind of human. 🍻🐍
thirsty snek
Great snakes, good pets.
Southern Arizona Kingsnake. I have 3 on my property. Good for the packrats
How does chlorinated water affect animals, snakes in particular?

Second one I've seen posted here. Funny enough I saw one in my yard about three weeks ago for the first time.
Awwww the thirsty kind!
I’m not a big snake fan myself but give me a king snake so that way I don’t have rattlers or mice/pack rats that fuck up any wiring
Black mamba?
Just a guess
