With that big ol head and jowls that's definitely a Tomcat. He'd be worth trapping and neutering if you're up for it.

yewbii

I appreciate the info! I'm not familiar with the whole neutering thing. Despite hanging around everyday, he hisses and runs away from people if they get too near. How would I go about doing that and what are the advantages/disadvantages?

BellowingBison

Advantages are they won’t be reproducing more stray cats into the community and won’t usually fight to the death with other cats for territory.

yewbii

Thank you for the information, I had no idea about this stuff! I'll look into it more, it looks like there's TNR centers near me.

BellowingBison

That’s great! Glad I could help!

FeralGoblinChild

Even if you yourself can't help much, giving them info on where the cat(s), the info can be helpful to purple who are more experienced with it

BellowingBison

You can check your local county area (google search) for trap & release spay and neuter programs. There’s usually someone that lends out traps (or you can buy one for around $30 at a hardware store) and you trap them, take them in to get fixed, then drop them back off in their area after surgery. Thank you so much for being kind to these sweet souls. 💜

JoanofBarkks

Also consider he might be sick or in pain. If you can trap him they can check his health and neuter at same time. I feel so sad for Tom cats... ask a local rescue or shelter for help. I trapped a feral cat once who would have died otherwise and it was the best feeling ever.

chirtygirl

He will fight less and live longer. Call a rescue in your area to see if they will lend you a trap. Your vet may be able to help as well. This is how I got my oldest cat. A stray that I took care of with food and shelter. Then we chose to TNR simply for over population and he was coming back beat up a little. It does mellow them out and I guess after the TNR he knew he had someone to take care of him.

TrailerTrashQueen

you can look online for local rescue groups who do ‘TNR’ - Trap, Neuter, Return. we’ve done it for a lot of our neighborhood ferals. the rescue group can usually can lend you a trap. you set it up with food inside in the evening. you also have to make sure there’s no food left out that he can eat. he needs to be hungry enough to get the food in the trap. then no more food after that. he needs an empty stomach to get his procedure done the next day. you’ll check early the next morning to see if he’s been caught. once he’s in there you drop him off at the shelter. they’ll neuter him and give him his vaccines. he’ll be ready for pick up by late afternoon/early evening. take him home and keep him inside the trap overnight. you release him the next morning. the rescue group will give you all the info you need. it’s so great you’re looking after him.

beebeelion

There is one in my neighborhood that I cannot trap. He's too elusive and just never falls for it. He has big old jowls, his names is actually Cheeks.

Notchersfireroad

I've got one that won't fall for it either. From what I can tell he's the only one left in the neighborhood that's intact and he's super chill so I leave him be. He actually lets me pet him every now and then. Jowls as wide as his shoulders.

Substantial-Tone-576

They use their bite and strong neck to hold the female down for mating because their privates are barbed.

ArabellaFort

With those chops we can assume there is a local army of black and white kittens and cats.

Final_Bunny

Why?

Substantial-Tone-576

I cured him and had him home for 6 months or more and then one day he ran outside and never came back. I Guess he was a wanderer.

Sidewalk_Tomato

I'm sorry. He's really cute; someone probably snatched him up, especially if he had no chip. You probably saved his life, and I hope that's a comfort.

Substantial-Tone-576

Yeah I think he made it because there are only raccoons no coyotes in my immediate area.

Sidewalk_Tomato

I'm glad to hear that. We definitely have coyotes (the raccoons, too). The coyotes are very fast on their feet, and eerie to listen to at night. I actually like their sound, but if I had a cat right now I'd have to leash-train them or have supervised time in the yard, and watch them like hawks. Ironically, we also have *hawks* (and eagles).

Substantial-Tone-576

I tried putting a leash and harness on my black cat and usually he meows very quietly but when I try walking him he meows! And is not happy when I take him down the street to a park. https://preview.redd.it/um196fsspj4c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6db1685124a614c9ef62ff0746137d1864b09d3f

Sidewalk_Tomato

As long as he's not outright traumatized (you're the judge, of course) it might be worth a try to keep at it.

Substantial-Tone-576

The neighborhood is full of cats probably 10 or more run around. Its cars I’m more worried about but I haven’t found any dead cats by my house

Final_Bunny

You think something happened to him when he left?

Substantial-Tone-576

IDK I have not seen him since. But he was a wanderer I have my two cats who he got along with. He just decided to go

[Here](https://communitytemplates.notion.site/Cat-Resources-fb190e1ecb8a41ecb6db049aa16c7df8?pvs=4) is every Jackson Galaxy (cat behaviorist) video categorized by topic. He is an amazing resource and you can learn how to create a bond with him if you want him.

yewbii

This is super comprehensive. I know nothing about cats so this is very appreciated, thanks!

natsunshine

I think all cats have RBF. Trying slow blinking at him and see if he slow blinking you back.

Entire-Ambition1410

I have a picture of my mom’s Snowy laying on a lap, actively being petted and putting. He has the best RBF in the photo.

I think his is because he's a flame point and doesn't get the one brain cell very often haha. He also has a lazy eye and toothless, which makes him look either judgy or annoyed all the time lol. He's actually really happy and purring loudly in this pic, it's almost lunch time haha.

Lovisaeline

I love that he just sort sort of gives: # :I

Lady_Andromeda1214

Awe! I’ve been feeding about 5-6 strays for the past 6 months…most have been fixed, but there is this absolute beauty of a kitty that we’re working on getting trapped/fixed, with the hope of bringing her home with me after she heals. I pray every day that she stays safe & we’re successful in getting her fixed & off the streets. https://preview.redd.it/bn76ea80bj4c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f211991d6b983079cfb11a4e998b0d5a68812ab1 ETA: 3 out of the 5-6 are tuxedos. One, in particular, was trapped, fixed & taken home, but she was not happy, so she was re-released. I continue to feed her every day, too.

WhoriaEstafan

Aww, you’re a lovely person. I hope you get to turn this beauty into a house cat! She really is gorgeous, I’m sure she’d love to live inside the luxury!

Lady_Andromeda1214

You’re very kind. Thank you. These kitties live behind (& around) my place of work, so I get to see them almost every day! It’s my favorite part of coming to work…but I hate leaving them behind when I go home. I am crossing my fingers that she’ll get into the trap. They’ve been placed out back, but not set, yet (to get them used to the traps being there). I am as hopeful as I am nervous for them.

LouisTheGreatDane22

Looks like you’re on his lawn. 😂😂😂

MyCatHasCats

Just because you gave me food and a place to stay, I still DO NOT like you! 😡

Poohgli16

I feed two and they always stay at least 3 or 4 feet away from me, after 18 months. They won't use their house, but they do finish the meals.

Sufficient-Drama-544

That's a love glare

Empty_Opposite5371

That’s a glare of gratitude if I ever saw one

FrankenGretchen

My Bob was like that. Took me ten+ years to make friends with him. The sumner he disappeared, he was to the point where he'd greet me at the door and let me pet him but only on his terms. We used a have a heart trap to catch him the year we moved in so he could be neutered and have surgery for an injury. He was such a sweet boy. I hope your boy decides you're trustworthy, OP.

fritzco

Must have had a really bad experience with people.

swld0

Cool cat.

PomeloAgitated863

Kitty: Urgh! Hooman still doesn’t get it. Hey I could be living in your home instead of on the streets in this thing! [Guilt stare] 😾😼

patty202

Feral.

Is it heated with an auto dispenser?? Water at just the right temp!

Looks like a crabby old guy.

Aimlesssmithling1996

He appreciates it, it’s just the way he looks. They know a good person when they meet one and understand that you are helping them.

Alarmed-Zucchini-351

I’m sure they appreciate you 🖤🤍🐈‍⬛

Raiderleo69

I had one like that, big boy tuxedo cat. His name was Sylvester! Unfortunately, this summer a car hit him and killed him. I was very sad, he never let me touch him but he did like me on his own terms. I TNR him and many others, I also recommend this for all the feral cats and domesticated cats also.

Katlira

It is not acceptable to show gratitude. Gratitude is for dogs not cats. We are here to serve them. It is expected that we give and give and give.
