Also am I the only one who pronounces both differently?
MGS Raiden I emphasize the “Rai” part, mostly because of how the Colonel says it
MK Raiden I emphasize it as “Raid”, or as MK1 did it, Rayden (though never spelled like that)
>am I the only one who pronounces both differently?
I mean, like you said, the games pronounce the respective names differently, so I doubt you’re alone
I think the MK devs just didn’t know the pronunciation when they made him. You have a Japanese name associated with thunder and lightning and it has raid in it? In the 90s? Obviously they’ll use that.
Metal Gear, because I didn't grow up with Mortal Kombat outside of the movie and Metal Gear Rising is peak video games.
Also, a Pokemon fan so Raichu and Raikou mean I read "Rai" as Rye, not Ray.
I instantly think about the rice hat freak. Sometimes I have to remind myself that MGS also has a Raiden. His name just never stuck with me.
And yeah, Ironicly the MK version is pronounced "Ray-Den"
no shade being tossed its way of course, but I mean MK is so prolific. For people to not immediately think of MK when they hear the word "Raiden" and don't immediately hear WUHARHRHBBHABHEELLLAHHH in their head is crazy to me.
That's kind of cool if MG Raiden is the new default. But man! Feel bad for MK Raiden. Talk about a dethrone.
Keep in mind where you are, we’re definitely a fanbase that’s discussed Metal Gear more than MK. If you asked this question to a more general gaming group or even a non-gaming crowd, the results would likely be different
That's also true. Idk, I thought it would have been a bit closer also because there are plenty of fighting game fan here too. I am guessing they must simply be in the lab right now.
But there is a noticeable amount of Kojima appreciation here and always has been in the community, so I should clarify I am not surprised that MG Raiden is winning, but it's a staggering chasm of a lead haha!
metal gear first, then genshin, because I'd pronounce it that way rather than the mortal kombat way
obviously when it's ray instead of rye, it's Mortal Kombat though
I mean, this is a pronunciation thing, really.

I was comming to the comments to put just this actually. Spelled the same but I absolute do this exact thing.

COLONEL, I'VE MANAGED TO AVOID DROWNING!
GOOD JOB.
Nowadays Genshin because shes been one of my mains for a while.
Y'all don't play shmups?

Genshin. I'm sorry, I'll leave.
Hey I'm not a shill, but I said the same thing. I'm too Mei-pilled not to think about one of the two of them.
I thought the same. Wondered why Shogun was missing.
WHOA, it's THAT much in favor of Metal Gear?! Am I that much of an oldhead? This is nuts lmao!
I'm old too, but Revengeance was just too good

It's a good reminder of how statistical bias works. This sub likes MGR more than MK so naturally more people will think of MGR than MK.
I grew up playing Mk1-2-3 and I still think of MG Raiden first. It helps that one is a cool cyborg and one is the god of bumblefucking.
A lightning bolt
That’s Mister Lightning Bolt to you
Mei
Raiden Metal Gear is my beloved, but Genshin Impact Raiden shows up right alongside him in Google images, so i think of both
Final Fantasy VI. Raiden is an upgrade to Odin who teaches you the absolutely busted spell, Quick.
I still remember the SNES translation of his summon, Atom Edge. Sounded so damn cool.
Technically the Transformer for me. https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Raiden But for those 2...MG.
Finally, someone who knows train man
MGS2 was the first game I played that had a Raiden in it, so it's that one.
I hear squeeze my hog.
metal gear first, then genshin, because I'd pronounce it that way rather than the mortal kombat way obviously when it's ray instead of rye, it's Mortal Kombat though
I think of the shmup.
Interchangeably those 2 but more often mgs raiden, and then way way after, i remember snk raiden
"Did you just say *nerd*?"
Honkai
Fight!
Genshin for the meme
Any old timers here who hear Raiden and think of [this](https://youtu.be/wvq34wWo0Bo)?
I think of the lesbian lmao
Specifically Christopher Lambert in the 1995 MK film
Raiden.
