I already had this fear after watching 007 Licence to Kill!

I had a litter of very young foster kittens once. One had a prolapsed anus and had white chunks attached to it. Another also had white chunky things coming four of its rear end. Turned out they were maggots and both kittens had to be euthanized 🤢 The third in the litter survived. But when it was about time for its eyes to open (8-10 days) the closed socket swelled up. I was treating it with a hot compress and gauze and its eyeball literally fell the fuck out into my cloth. What. The. Fuck.  I hate maggots.

I wish that had been an option! Having the rice crawl up my arm was very disconcerting! It was in a home where there were 7 people living at the time. It was my turn to clean the kitchen and whoever's turn before me obviously did not do their job. It was a terrible living situation

True... Although I am not sure I would recommend eating most types of maggots if you have other options, especially depending on what they have been eating, themselves, and the species of fly. Myiasis is the real horror.

Improperly stored cooked rice can cause seriously bad food poisoning as well so honestly, you're much better off eating the grubs

A Vietnam Vet I used to know used to tell us if we were ever taken as a POW to kill the rats and eat the maggots. Think of it as mechanized rice. Not sure if he was a POW back in the day.

I remember a time when I was young that my mom had rice spread out on concrete in the backyard only to see little white worms crawling from the pile….this story reminded me of that.

Probably depends on many factors. There is protein, like people said, but many maggots aren't safe to eat and can cause infestation in your body, which wouldn't be good, and it also depends on what the maggots were eating, too. I wouldn't recommend it, if you have any other options.

Probably better than finding actual old cooked rice. You can get some nasty food poisoning from improperly stored cooked rice thanks to Bacillus cereus. This might be a better horror story than that video of the guy washing the mold off his rice and eating it.

Someone left the old oil barrel outside a restaurant I worked at open. Came to dump load of old oil and the entirety of the inside was filled with maggots. You could audibly hear them crinkling. We then proceeded to fry them with the dirty oil and make sure the lid was on right.
