From Google In the UAE, there is typically a maximum speed buffer of 20 Km/hr on highways for all emirates but not in Abu Dhabi. This means that drivers can exceed the imposed speed limit by up to 20 Km/hr without facing speeding penalties [Source](https://www.cars24.com/ae/blog/road-speed-limits-in-the-uae-navigating-the-fast-lanes-safely/)

Also Al Ain as some people think Al Ain is a seperate Emirate

rogues69

Is there a govt source on this? Not really relying on cars24

fraz1776

This is common knowledge.

rogues69

Great. Can you share the official information to back this common knowledge? Not saying if its right or wrong asking for official confirmation of this so called common knowledge

Here you go for Dubai via [Dubai Police](https://www.dubaipolice.gov.ae/wps/portal/home/opendata/Street_Speed_Limits). You will see the column road speed which is the speed limit and another column which is radar control that shows at what speed the radar will get triggered.

Thanks

Someone already shared this. Thanks.

fraz1776

So I saw. Did you actually not know about the buffer or were you just being pedantic?

rogues69

Wanted to confirm the legality of it

LETSENDTHISNOW

As they already told you, speed limit has a 20km/h buffer in every emirate except Abu Dhabi. It’s not a biggie though: most of the emirates have speed limit of 120 km/h on highways, which means that you can drive up to 140 km/h without facing fines. In Abu Dhabi, the speed limit is 140 km/h with no tolerance. So you can generally drive on motorways at 140 km/h everywhere and not have a fine. One thing though, pay attention when speed limits change. For example, the part of highways that go into Abu Dhabi city has speed limit at 100 km/h with no tolerance.

el_Bosco1

Several highways in Abu Dhabi have 160km/h limit.

BearBeard89

Only two I think, the Abu Dhabi-Al Ain and Mafraq-Ghweifat. But yes, of course where the limit is 160, you can go 160, but still no tolerance. Basically in Abu, the limit you see is the limit you get 😂

iatm8701

Not in Abu Dhabi!!! The speed limit is the speed limit! Don’t ask me how I know 🙈🫣

NecessaryWarning6445

Dubai and Sharjah have 20kph buffer in the city and highways. Ajman and all the northern emirates only on the highways not in the cities. Abu Dhabi no buffer at all. The speed posted is the maximum limit.

GinaLinettti

Wait what? So in Ajman, in the city, if the sign said 60 I get a fine at 61? How can I tell when the rule applies and when it doesn't?

NL1693

Live right between Ajman and Sharjah Just got my driver's license From my driving instructor: You can go up to 20 over the limit in Sharjah Most roads have a max of 60, we can go 80, and 81 is where they fine you, I like to keep it safe at around 75 Ajman fines you at 61, there is no extra, if it says 60, it's 60

Someone_ms

Even is Ajman and Sharjah, it depends on the road whether u get the buffer or not.. if its a residential area, best keep it under speed limit
