Fat chance of that refund. When they canceled sun God for 2 years due to covid, promising to put the funds toward a future sun God and funds for students impacted by the pandemic, they took millions of dollars of student activity fees, gave back a few hundred thousand in scholarships then pocketed the rest while the sungod they promised to spend it on was one of the least funded in recent history and had a clearly cheap lineup compared to previous years.
The artists and companies are all actually already paid. We should appeal to them and bring back our sun god https://www.reddit.com/r/UCSD/comments/1cj3c2r/heres_how_to_bring_back_sun_god/
As someone who is watching this from the sidelines, I think that's actually a good idea. All of you guys should come together and email these companies make sure to have everything on file. Blow it all up on social media, bring awareness to what is going on. I definitely am intrigued about this whole thing as of last night. So what is this protest about exactly? I'd like some light shed on the subject
Students have been holding protests on campus to have UCSD divest their funding of weapons manufacturing contributing to the genocide on Gaza since October. Now with the student encampments, instead of a 2 hour protest the admin can ignore its now a 24/7 protest as long as we stay at the camps. Now that we are on Library Walk weâre a lot harder to be ignored by students, professors, visiting prospective students, and even investors of the university. The school is mad and retaliating with the festival cancellation because they know itâs working when we end up on the news and their school ranking is in jeopardy.
Woah. I thought they were funding the war effort but as it was an assumption I wanted ask. Absolutely blown away. That's a place for education. Not war.
More than $9,000,000 of our life sciences research and $11,000,000 of engineering research goes to Israeli companies. You can check out everything on https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/about-us/information-center/sponsors
If they were so concerned with our âsafetyâ and the people chilling in tents PEACEFULLY were SUCH A THREAT⊠why have classes not been moved online then? Why are my midterms not cancelled?
Are you all intentionally thick? Like yea, there's definitely more motivation that just safety, but safety is a real concern. The encampment is peaceful *now*. The other encampments were also peaceful when they started. You expect throwing 8,000 drunk people at the problem will make it better? For fucks sake.
Because there will definitely be some idiots doing stupid things at the Sun God. Is it possible that none of protestors realized the Sun God would be canceled when they started camping right before the Sun God weekend? Apparently someone needs the Sun God festival to draw attention or do something crazy. The university will never risk it, for sure.
While I agree and stand with you in frustration against the obviously weak reasoning the university has provided to cancel SGF, the encampment is certainly less than a mile away from the fest. Probably more accurate to say 1/2 mile. So I guess what Iâm saying is that we shouldnât be exaggerating or imprecise when we make our argument against this BS they are pulling on us.
Nope, this had to happen. Can't manage Sun God along with rampaging protestors at the same time. Can't trust the protestors to keep to their own encampments.
There are no rampaging protesters. Have you not seen what's actually happening at the encampments? The only rampage that has happened is when the police show up to break up other University encampments.
The students at the encampment have just been chilling, eating, and doing homework from what Iâve seen on my way to class. We should work with them https://www.reddit.com/r/UCSD/comments/1cj3c2r/heres_how_to_bring_back_sun_god/
Let me use my refund money on Genshin Impact
every comment i see from you is about genshin impact đ
I noticed people in this sub particularly like to have gimmicks/play characters, itâs fascinating
Hell yea, we got the Clorinde fund growing.
Yes Clorinde funds going to go crazy

Fousheé apparently said she might try to work something out in solidarity with the students I have heard.

Safetyâs definitely a concern, but lack of security is not. SGF has funds separately for third party security

To be fair, the Palestinian orgs on campus almost always do their thing first week of May.
We should work with them to bring back sun god https://www.reddit.com/r/UCSD/comments/1cj3c2r/heres_how_to_bring_back_sun_god/
