it should give you a reason why. Typically for labs, you have to register for the lab and lecture at the same time since they’re pre reqs

yeah, you technically need to have the lab to sign up for the lecture. however, if you can find out who is in charge of the overrides for the department, you should be able to email them and they might give you an override to take the lecture without the lab registered on your schedule yet. idk who it would be for physics (usually i think its the lead advisor ??), but someone on this reddit may know. or you can probably email the professor and they would know. i had a similar situation happen with a biology class and i was allowed to take the lecture without the lab and do the lab the next semester.
