If you wish to use ethernet, then yes, you will need to bring your own cable. WiFi is otherwise available for use.
(Gaming consoles will need to connect via ethernet.)
- a bathrobe. changing in a shower stall is the most miserable thing ever
- if you loft your bed, get some kind of bedside shelf
- whatever kind of alternative lighting you can get your hands on. the in-room lights are pretty terrible, so my roommate and i basically lived off smaller lamps and hanging string lights and almost never turned on the overhead
- earplugs. i promise at some point someone will be right outside your door at 3 am being obnoxiously loud. you dont want to not have them when you need them.
- a printer, if you have one at your disposal. otherwise printing can be a little bit of a hassle. i had one and people in my dorm always asked to use it lol.
I recommend all of these except the printer. Every large dorm and every large academic building has low cost, quick printing available for students. If you live in a high rise, printing will be as simple as taking the elevator to the lobby. If you have a printer in your room, your roommate and your friends on the hall will ask you to use it a lot. Between that, printer issues, and ink cartridges, I think you'll wish you didn't have a printer. My roommate had one and eventually it just sat there taking up space when it ran out of ink and we realized using campus printers was cheaper than ink!
Bring a safe if you have any valuables and you have or your roommate has a lot of friends over! It is super helpful for medicine too! (especially if you're prescribed Xanax or adderall since some kids like to take those for recreational use)
Ethernet cable if you want to play video games. Coaxial cable if you want cable tv.
Shower caddy and shoes for bathroom essentials. Comforter and all other accessories for a twin xl bed. Trash bags. Hand sanitizer wouldn’t hurt to get. Hangers for the dresser. This is basically the minimum. With just this you’re basically living in a prison cell.
Futon. Some lights. Fridge. Carpet. Some extra storage space. This makes the dorm a lot more comfortable.
A good shower caddy is a must. You'll also want flip flops for the shower if its a communal bathroom. A robe isn't really necessary. IMO you can just wear a towel.
Most of the dorms have the beds up high and a desk or couch underneath each bed. The underside of the bed frame has metal beams that hurt a lot when you inevitably stand up quickly and accidentally hit your head. We zip tied cut pool noodles to the metal parts to prevent this (props to my Freshman year roommate for the idea).
A broom/hand vacuum. I don’t understand how some people live with the accumulated dirt. Also, if you’re the kind of person who irons clothes, you could invest in a small steamer.
if you’re lifting your bed and not doing what i did (getting up using gymnastics and your desk) invest in some pool noodles to cover the ladder part cause that shit hurt
My roommate and I basically split how we did our little living area. We put our beds on the highest possible setting, put my futon under my bed, and he had the tv under his. A minifridge is great for drinks and groceries, and a trunk or box for snacks works wonders as well. Possibly a long vertical mirror to hang on the door as well, in addition to drawer organizers for clothes and such. I used a hanging organizer for a lot of my clothes to save space.
If you’re somewhere with communal bathrooms, shower shoes, bath caddy, and a bathrobe! Bathrobe makes it a lot easier than bringing a whole outfit with you. I personally found a lockbox very useful for the storage, but any type of storage furniture would be a good idea as well.
Info about all the technology you should bring (ethernet cable, coaxial cable, etc) and tech that won’t work in the dorms (Alexa) can be found here: https://eits.uga.edu/support/new_to_campus/#faqs
No, it won’t. Most streaming devices, including Fire Sticks and Chromecast don’t work with PAWS-Secure.
A good rule of thumb: if you can connect it with an Ethernet cable, it’s okay. If there is no Ethernet port on the device, chances are it won’t work. For streaming devices, there are a few types of Rokus that have Ethernet ports and can be configured to work in housing.
get 2 pool noodles. you’re gonna want to cut them open and put them on the bottom of your lofted bed. trust me, this will arguably be the most important part of your dorm.
Command strips and hooks, never know when you want to hang something up
A dry easer calendar, keep up with assignments and events
Downey wrinkle releaser spray, a MUST have to get rid of wrinkles fast
Bedside caddy(idk what it’s called), for a lofted bed this will be great bc you don’t have to get on and off your bed in order to get things
Blankets, periodt
A floor mirror, gotta have a way to check the outfit before you leave
Bed bath & beyond has a really great dorm essentials list that I used my freshmen year! Definitely a mini fridge & microwave for when you don’t want to go to the dining hall
I always used [this](https://postmarq.tumblr.com/post/56078954524/college-packing-list-index-cards) list to help me remember what I needed to bring. Everything might not be on there, but it covers a lot of stuff that I wouldn’t have thought of. Some of the stuff is not needed, so it’s up to you to decide what you want to bring! I hope this helps.
Bring some shower shoes or flip flops to wear while you are taking a shower. Trust me, there’s no telling what all has been on those shower and bathroom floors.
Also, it is so much more convenient having your own printer in your room, so I’d definitely recommend one of those as well. My roommate and I shared ours, so we never had to go to one of those public printers around campus.
May sound dumb and may be kind of late, but bed sheets with pockets and long phone charging cables (like 6-10 feet). Lofting your bed is a necessity if you want space/storage, and these things let you hold your phone and charge it while in bed up high!
-Eye mask is an absolute must.
-Quick easy-to-make meals/snacks in case you get hungry and the dining halls are closed
-Portable outlet, especially one that has many outlets
-Throw blanket
-Desk light/bed light
A rug is a must!
Something to really tie the room together.

Pack up on vitamin C, lysol, hand sanitizers because boy you're in for a lot of colds...
Just don’t inject the Lysol

A steamer is a must. You won't have space to iron, and you'll inevitably need a non-wrinkled shirt for an interview or something.
Bring a bowl so you can microwave ramen/soup/mac and cheese/whatever you crave. Also get a decent laundry basket
Ah very true. Those are also vital things
if you’re lifting your bed and not doing what i did (getting up using gymnastics and your desk) invest in some pool noodles to cover the ladder part cause that shit hurt
Definitely invest in a mini fridge with a freezer
Also a small microwave. Being able to keep leftovers cold is excellent. Being able to heat them up again afterward is divine.

This! For optimal efficiency, you need to cooperate with your roommate on setting stuff up!
A nice rug is a worthy investment

Definitely bring a caddy if nothing else. They are incredibly helpful with communal showers

thank you sm! I was worried I had to by a whole new system
Water kettle for instant hot water !
Small vacuum to keep the dorm clean
Depends on if you going to have community bathroom or ECV/Reed

Power strip. And as others have said cold medicine. You will get sick

bring a TV
Earplugs, in case your roommate likes coming in drunk at 3 am on weekdays and you have an 8 am test
Condoms
You don't need to pay for these. The health center will send them to your mailbox at the dorm for free. Just visit their website.
