Tips based on percentage is fine, I think people are hung up on the wrong thing.
The base pay should be dynamic and based on driver time and distance. If base pay covered $2 per mile at least or $20 per hour of time spent, then the tip would just be icing on top.
People tipping probably have no idea that base pay is exploitatively low and tip thinking they are giving bonus money without realizing their tip is the primary source of pay on the order.
Completely agree. Tip should be based on the miles that the driver has to travel but Uber is shady AF, robbing the customers and drivers from both ends to pay themselves.
"Customer left a big tip for the driver? Great, here's $1 base pay. Now go deliver it for me." -uber
Yeah, well how do you know the customer actually decreased the tip and it isn't Uber taking it? Oh Uber gave the boy scout hand gesture.
The ideal system would be the customer didn't tip in the app and hands you cash. But that's never going to work
As a customer would it be better to just not tip in the app and give like 5 or 10 bucks cash when delivered? Always thought orders would just wait and wait if you didn’t tip on app
Unfortunately no. Best to split the tip of possible as it's the least headache to you. Tipping high in the app makes it so your order gets accepted but it doesn't guarantee delivery. So splitting it in some manor works
Well said. It's easier to just slap a percentage on the total and send them on their way than to calculate operating costs based on time+distance+effort(size etc)+gas prices+take into account vehicle used.
That's not to say it's difficult to do that either it's just far easier to not do it.
As a customer, that has never made any sense to me. The price of my order has nothing to do with the amount of effort (unless it results in the order being super heavy or a ton of stuff). The idea of tipping the delivery driver more if i decide to get expensive food one night from somewhere 0.5 mile away than when I get a $15 order from 6 miles away seems ridiculous to me.
Tell that to the US department of labor. Yeah, the federal agency that should be protecting drivers rights. So, what we have here is a failure to regulate and there are some American corporations, like Uber Technologies, that will take advantage of workers rights. It's obvious to me, but IMO alot of people simply do not want to do their jobs and/or are part of the corruption. The EU, on the other hand, stands upto UE BS tactics and simply mandates reasonable time/material driver pay standards. American policy makers are on the hook here and we all see what is going on.
The long term prospectus for UE looks grim to me if you consider across the board regulation and the impact it will have on their ill-gotten-gain revenues. Take Seattle or NYC as a template and apply that to the world. Badabing!
UberEats are charging 15\~30% charge on the restaurants, and they are increasing the price of their food when ordered by Ubereats. UberEats should pay a base fee or distance fee or time fee on the driver, NOT a customer.
Actually customer is paying 20\~40% of service fee (via distance/zone, ...) + some delivery fee + over-price of food from restaurants to get a food
I see it a bit differently. For small orders, there does needs to be a minimum based on distance. But for large (dollar value) orders, the customer’s 15% tip could be a nice bonus - like $30. It doesn’t raise their total order amount by much, but really helps us out.
Yeah you’re right, you guys shouldn’t be getting a tip cause you get paid for deliveries through the delivery fee. Let’s remove the tip percentage screen!

Not to mention they rob the restaurants also. To pay themselves in all things. Let's not forget that.

Percentage based tips are typically heigher.

If only Uber paid their drivers well enough, there wouldn’t be this issue

Oh yes, we get paid a whopping $2 delivery fee. We should be so grateful to be allowed to receive these crumbs.
