The thing I dislike is when you deliver to a place that's on a giant hill with no place to turn around, and you don't know until you get up there and it's pitch black outside. Ten point turns are very frustrating

PetyrBaelish

Yeah I can tell when the developer just kinda gave up on making some path make sense and it just sort of ends in a hellish open tunnel like area. One time I just had to reverse about 100 feet at least

Responsible_Sport575

Yikes

ShaneAlexander

And their address number is nowhere to be found..

Responsible_Sport575

Also super annoying

lmarie_53

Yes!

YourHighness1087

I printed out the Uber sign and taped it to my back window. In over two years delivering I haven't gotten a ticket for double parking yet. 🤷‍♂️ I work Los Angeles area.

ArtisticDegree3915

I have a sign I keep in my car to put on my dash that says package delivery, 10-minute parking. It has a made-up company name on it too. I think it works. I was parked on the side of a street outside of an apartment building one night where everybody used to park. And I guess they decided to crack down on it. I came out of the building one day and the parking enforcement guy was just sitting there staring at my car almost scratching his head. I think he didn't know what to do with my sign. But since then I just pretty much don't deliver to that apartment building.

Tough_Frame4022

Just wait until the rollout of the ai parking tickets on the buses this year . Not going to matter then

YourHighness1087

That's understandable, different cities have different laws n stuff.

Zilkie

What I recommend: ALWAYS send txt msgs to ur customers, if theres no space to park, tell them to go outside so they can get prepared.

sajool

99% of the time they'll refuse to go out ,and they'll try to make it a problem to get you fired, so save your self the headache . Call support, they already their are and they don't tip properly. Most of the time the people you go above and beyond for they're the one's that's ungrateful.

[deleted]

DxnteCrisis

mines just straight up dont even answer the message 💀 not even read it or anything and if u try to call them they will decline your call thinking its a scam caller

Tough_Frame4022

They give you a negative rating and it will make your satisfaction rating goe down...... And Uber doesn't count positive ratings anymotr so you're screwed!

IndependentGal4415

No wonder my percentage has been stuck on 98% for ages!!

Zilkie

PROOFS Send txt msgs from the app are a proof in case theres a problema, Just cover ur back

International-Ad3447

It's a delivery why we going outside to pickup

ShaneAlexander

Because your place is so difficult to get to with all the stairs, broken or non-existent elevators, zero parking, thousands of units and unclear directions. Does that help explain it? Oh, and a tiny tip!

ShaneAlexander

If we get a parking ticket because the customer never responded to our phone calls or texts about how there’s nowhere available to park, so we are forced to double park yet then get a ticket, than UE needs to pay that ticket for us

International-Ad3447

That's your problem

ShaneAlexander

Well you’re obviously a driver who just accepts fault easily and doesn’t challenge these apps. I’ve been reimbursed twice by Instacart. Shows what you know…

International-Ad3447

Yep your problem to challenge them

713nikki

Do your customers actually answer?

MissPeach77

If you mark that there is no parking under the problem with order, I believe that you can then message the customer, and a short timer starts. If they don't respond before the timer runs out, you can then cancel with no penalty. I'd also call support and let them know there is nowhere to park. If they can't get in touch with the customer, they can cancel the order on your behalf and will advise you what to do with the food.

ShaneAlexander

I’ve tried that but the right hand doesn’t know what the left hand did or didn’t do at UE! You might get a support person on the phone who understands and doesn’t count that against you. But when the customer reports the order as missing or stolen to a different rep, ,you’ll still get hit w/negative ratings and warnings.

MissPeach77

My only suggestion then would be to text the customer through the app (then screenshot that shit on your phone, I dont care if you need to take ten screenshots to cover the whole conversation), tell them you are outside and there is nowhere to park but you want them to get their food and could they kindly meet you at the entrance outside, otherwiseyour only option would be is to call it into support and delete it. If they want the food enough, they'll walk their lazy ass to the elevator and get it. If they don't, then when you call support, start it out with I have pictures of the text, or you record from your phone camera if you call to get the audio. It's sad we have to do stuff like that, but you can say to UE, I texted the customer, you can see the conversation, and they WILL brush it off. But if you say, "I have screenshots of the text, or video with the audio when I called," like the hair on the back of a dog that stands up when they are scared, they will back off you and any negative actions against you will be long forgotten.

schuma73

Absolutely not. Sometimes I try sending messages to customers when I know the hotel they're at won't let me past the front desk. "I'll be there in 5 minutes" "Ok, thank you so much, I appreciate you" Still doesn't move toward lobby until I arrive and makes me wait out the timer.

kgiann

I always meet drivers at my building's front door, but I don't go downstairs until they're on my street, so that I can still be connected to my Wi-Fi to refresh the map. I've been burned too many times by waiting downstairs for several minutes by drivers that are multi-apping, only to have to go back upstairs because the food won't actually be delivered for 10 to 20 more minutes. Like I'd be downstairs and then realize I've read multiple pages of a Kindle book and haven't seen the driver yet. So I'd refresh the map on data, and they'd be driving away from my apartment. I find there to be a strong correlation between the drivers that text "I'm on my way" or "I'll be there in X minutes" and drivers that take my food on the scenic route.

Zilkie

Thats not ur problem, u Just covered urself by sending a txt msg from the app, waut for the time and if they dont come outside leave it closed to the entrance

Ellymanelly124

We leave it near the location take a picture and send it to the customer and say sorry I can’t park to deliver it to you directly

ShaneAlexander

I started taking these things into my own hands long ago. I call the customer, as soon as I see they’re in one of those ginormous, college campus sized buildings w/zero parking and tow signs everywhere. I insist they meet me outside since I have other orders to deliver! Remember: you can blame EVERYTHING on UE! Tell the customer UE requires the customer to come outside for their food when they live in bldgs w/no parking! I put so much off on UE you wouldn’t believe it. It works everytime. I’ll even tell the customer that UE probably forgot to include that information in their app!

lmarie_53

That's not a terrible idea, thanks.

RichardBottom

I've got a few places like this. One of them is a dorm building that has a gated parking garage. You have to park by a loading dock and walk about a quarter mile up a ton of stairs to get to the entrance. And it's a college dorm building, so most of these people aren't tipping. I get so fucking angry when I complete my pick up and/or first delivery and I see this place come up.

sajool

Quarter miles walk to do delivery for ungrateful bastard. No I'm canceling that shit.or pay better be around $30.

DreadlyKnight

Man lots of notipbots downvoting these lmao I’d be pissed too if I had to spend 15 minutes going up some stairs to only then have to find the dorm room.

lmarie_53

Wow that's crazy. It's not worth it to me anymore and I won't be lying when I call support to tell them there is no safe parking available. I will message the customer first though and see if they're willing to meet me outside.

RichardBottom

I'd still be afraid of catching bad ratings. Some little puke is gonna hit you back with "Well idk what your issue is, all the other drivers don't seem to have any problem walking half a mile..."

mikeymo1741

If support cancels the delivery the person can't rate you.

RichardBottom

Right but if they begrudgingly come down to meet you, they can.

outlet239

you can simply ask Uber support not to give you rides that are at the specific location you dislike delivering to! They’re actually very helpful and real humans so I find that nice

sajool

No just call support.

Pepsiman1031

Just turn on your hazards

Fabulous-Grapefruit8

Benefits of using bike/Ebike

Ellymanelly124

Me too I’ve done it for three years and never got a ticket for parking because I was never there very long. I just parked pick up my order and leave.

Leeny78

Or the least they can do it meet you outside in the parking lot so you can stay with your car.

Lady_Goblikon

REAL! Or you know it's horrendous to find. Please put some direction and maybe meet us outside. 😭

jcoddinc

But that's exactly what the app was designed for, to allow people to be lazy. I definitely feel your pain though. I hate auto works factories. They always make it hand it to me then won't leave their station until you call them and then half the time claim they didn't get it because they took 10 minutes to get to the gate.

xefurr

Not saying you're wrong, but I just turn on my blinkers and do the delivery real quick. I've never gotten a ticket because I don't take 10 minutes to deliver once I'm at the residence. What's it going to take you, maybe a few minutes? Let's just say someone needs to get out of their space, most of the time an apology and coming back to your car with a hotbag is going to excuse it anyways. You do you, but I guess I'd rather have the fare and tip rather than someone else's food

Ok-Butterscotch-8366

Wow. You could simply ask them to meet outside since there's no available parking, but that would be too much common sense.

lmarie_53

Yes, I do know that. It had been an extremely stressful day and I needed to vent. In the future if I do take an apartment delivery and the customer can't/won't come outside then I'll tell support there's no safe parking and cancel it. Unless it's someone in wheelchair or on crutches, I would probably do whatever had to be done in order to help someone in that situation.

bleepingblotto

Actually, I agree. Come get your food if you want it.

testaroonee

As a driver, no. Pizza delivery guys have been figuring it out for decades, you’ll be fine.

derf1781

How about just black list all apts I did.

SubjectChemist2785

How?

2nd_Life_Retro

As for the "iLlEgAl" parking, go f yourself, honestly. This job is stressful enough as it is without other drivers crying about double-parking for the average of two minutes I'm there (because screw the claustrophobically tight parking spaces of my local apartment complexes). I promise you a fire is not going to break out in that time with fire trucks showing up before I leave either, especially since I can just move my car.  I just turn on my hazards to help people understand I'm there very temporarily and I've had no problems.

lmarie_53

Your promise of a fire not starting is nonsense. You have no idea when an emergency is going to happen be it a fire or anything else. I actually have been blocked in by firetrucks within those literal two minutes of parking. If I had been parked in a fire lane or double parked blocking people in there is no way the trucks could have gotten through. You do you but this job can definitely be done without any illegal parking. Being a delivery driver does not in any way entitle you to park wherever the hell you want to no matter how you try to justify it.

rebannxo

Why are you even doing this job? 😂💀

Superxpaull

“Entitle you”? What kinda mindset do you have? Next time just double check the map before taking an offer and simply decline orders that go to apartments

mikeymo1741

On the other hand... free food.

Al3c-X

Thats…kinda of the whole point of ordering Uber eats. Maybe they don’t wanna lose their parking spot. Nobody said you HAVE to take these orders 🤦🏻‍♂️

lmarie_53

First, we don't get to see the address before confirming pickup. Second, this isn't hard to find parking it's there is literally no legal parking at all for non-residents, not in the parking lot and not on either side of the street. This situation doesn't happen often but it does on occasion. I have no problem looking for parking and even walking a bit but I'm not walking a half mile from the nearest parking lot that's across a busy street with no crosswalk.

derf1781

You can definitely see the address before even accepting the order. Hit the house icon and it tells you te address and also shows you the structure of the building.

Jesmer8490

Yeah dude, you definitely don't see an address, just a general area.

derf1781

Just learn your market my guy I can look at my uber eats map also and know exactly where it's going, all you really need to do is be familiar with your cross streets

Jesmer8490

No you can't. I've been doing this for years. You get a general idea but my UE in general will often give me a street name a couple blocks from where the actual delivery is. There's a reason why UE purposely blocks out the address. Because people avoid certain buildings or difficult deliveries.

SubjectChemist2785

Not true, but I wish. I actually took a delivery that was mid because it said it was the street I live on with a cross street. I had delivered to that corner before. My neighbor tipped me in the app nicely (we don't know each other) and also tipped me in cash, most likely cause it was raining. I got the same cross streets again, accepted and it took me to the neighboring town a few minutes away. Lady wasn't that nice either.

lmarie_53

Here's what I usually see, not always with the map though for some reason. What house icon are you referring to? I've seen other comments about the house icon but I never see one. https://preview.redd.it/nbd7jdvpdryc1.jpeg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a2c03342eba02a7ebab6673b065c3b07334407ce

newmenewmenow

Pretty sure you can zoom in on the map and see the cross streets of the drop-off location.

lmarie_53

I'll try that next time I get an order pop up.

derf1781

Ehh my bad thought you was dashing.

agent-bagent

Wow. I mean, there’s a lot of posts here about drivers complaining about the dumbest things, but “finding parking” in a gig job you willingly took, to specifically deliver food, is just next level Well done OP. Truly the dumbest shit I’ve read today

Laker4Life9

You’re an out of touch piece of shit. Just in case you haven’t been reminded lately. :)

agent-bagent

Well yes, but actually no. Delivery food drivers are out of touch.

lsd418

Agreed. That's what the money is for lmao

rachelliero

“finding parking”? no. theres a difference between finding parking and apartment complexes with assigned parking spots and absolutely no guest spots whatsoever. i agree. i am not illegally parking. i did it a few times and got $170 ticket. if you don’t have legal parking, come and get your order. they chose to move into a complex with no parking and chose to be inconsiderate when they don’t leave any instructions on where to park or say they will come grab it.

Al3c-X

OP wants a $20 tip for driving 2 miles and for the customer to be waiting outside when he gets there so he doesn’t have to get out of his car 🤣

I don’t think you understand gig work. OP’s job is whatever OP says his job is, because he’s in charge, not Uber not the customer but the driver/owner operator.

Nope, I do what I want, if I had available parking I wouldn't use Uber…
