Not enough trees I think - especially up on the ridgeline

MatesRatesAy

Thanks, yeah that was the vibe I got from all the photos I've been looking at too.

No, not really possible to hammock on the trail. Assuming you already have a tarp for your hammock, just use that if you can pitch with trekking poles to save you having to buy a tent if you don’t have one.

MatesRatesAy

Perfect yeah that was gonna be my backup. Usually just a-frame a tarp over the hammock so was gonna rock that over sleep mat and ground sheet instead. Thanks mate!

cheesehotdish

Yeah don’t bother with bringing the hammock. Any spots you could maaaaybe pitch one would mean you’d miss out on most of the camps especially the high camps which are some of the best parts of the trip.

Remarkable_Income_77

Absolutely not, many of the campsites have no trees at all and the ones that do exist are rarely sturdy enough to rely on. I had enough trouble with a trekking pole tent, a hammock would be a nightmare. I actually cowboy camped/used the shelters for about half of it because the ground is so soft in a lot of places you can’t tension tie downs without getting creative with rocks

TheOtherAdamHikes

yes, if your using these! [https://www.tensaoutdoor.com/product-category/trekking-treez/?v=6cc98ba2045f](https://www.tensaoutdoor.com/product-category/trekking-treez/?v=6cc98ba2045f) Guy did the whole PCT with them. Note: I know nothing about the Larapinta

MatesRatesAy

Sure they're fine but from the photos that's a lot of faith being put into some sticks haha

Austtelebloke

You would have a hard time pegging/staking that out on the larapinta.

TheOtherAdamHikes

Is it rock hard or sandy?

Austtelebloke

Actually both. Sand over rock.

TheOtherAdamHikes

Even worse! Thank you

TheOtherAdamHikes

Haha yeah, seems like a cool idea, not that I own a hammock or those sticks!
