Ok real answer here 146 also has a very strong hvac department. Let’s take the realities of living in Texas aside, local 100 is much bigger, but it has joint jurisdiction with 146 and they share a lot of contractors. I’m still an apprentice, and the jatc at 146 is made up almost entirely of hvac guys. Brandt mechanical is the biggest MEP company in Texas and they’re based in Dallas and I know they’re constantly looking for hvac journeyman for service, construction, and commissioning. I work for Brandt and half their newsletters mention that they’re hiring for their hvac department. You also have a handful of small local contractors and JCI. Both 100 and 146 passed new CBAs recently and journeyman pay is going up to ~44 in the next couple years, which is low on the national average but top tier in the south. With a lower cost of living and no state income tax you end up with a decent amount of take home pay. There’s tons of work in dfw, and if the weather and politics weren’t so shitty people would be flocking here.
Southland/Brandt is always a good choice around Texas(everything chiller related,Lcu, alot of crossover for different systems, you will get to experience majority of our trade that way), Jci likes to have there Chiller and Lcu guys separate and not cross over much if at all(you will need to complete certain training courses and certificates to earn more then scale with them),the Dallas area Trane is not in the Local I belive but are across the rest of the major cities.
Why on earth would you move to Texas to a be a union anything?
I'm not even in america, and I know not to stick your dick in Texas with this type of work
Can’t even watch porn in Texas, forget about working union
