I loved Rosh as a character, he’s so tortured, frighteningly powerful and misunderstood. I was really upset with the things that he did, but he kept me on the edge of my seat as a reader.

GenoTwist

that’s how i feel! i truly think he was misled and it ruined his life from then on

well, I can't speak for the fandom, but I suppose I'll say I see why he was the main villain of the last trilogy! he's partially an embodiment of the darker aspects of Lestat/Louis/Armand as characters, what they could've been had they not evolved over time- he's the spirit of those older vampiric times where everything had to be doom and gloom, the perspective Lestat crushed in Armand, and which we see him always condemn in Louis, so to speak. I've always felt part of the reason Lestat holds back from destroying him initially is that he sees, and understands, that precarious position. he sees where Rhosh is very much a byproduct and consequence of a time in the vampire world that no longer exists, but which still spawned most of the vampires in the Coven of The Articulate, who are seeking new ways to live after spending centuries enduring in misery. Rhosh would've never been able to join them in stepping out of that dark space in the way _Prince Lestat_ explored, though- what he did to Maharet marked him as the particular kind of 'weak-willed' Anne Rice character she loved to explore through her villains. he was made by Akasha, and by killing Maharet, he very much steps into embodying that kind of stance, both literally and symbolically. which is wild when one thinks about Rosh/Benedict being the source of Magnus's vampirism, and an indirect maker of Lestat's. in essence, I think if Akasha early on represented Lestat starting to confront his various 'mommy issues' in _Queen of The Damned_, and that leading to a sort of metaphysical quest that wrapped up in _Memnoch_, _Prince Lestat_, _Realms of Atlantis_ and _Blood Communion_ have Lestat confront different 'masculine' figures in various configurations- Amel by merging with him through compassion, Louis by fully stepping into a 'healthy' version of that relationship, Magnus by his ghost reappearing to give Lestat a chance to recontextualize his turning and, finally, Rosh by destroying yet another link to a past & a heritage/way of being he doesn't claim for himself.

Not a fan.

How come?

save-me-from-sharon

I liked him. He was a good antagonistic force for the final trilogy

reinadeluniverso

I really really really don't care about him or the new vampires in the new books.

TisAFactualDawn

🥱 Edit: That’s my opinion. Deal with it. 🖕😘

I really liked Rhosh in PL (he's actually my favourite character from that book). It made me sad that AR forced him to be a villain just bc the 2 latter books were written in a way that needed one.

Rhoshamandes is not likable to me at all. He seems like has the just the worst qualities of Lestat and others. He could just be after Prince Lestat but no, his pride would not let him. Give it up, boy. I don't think he should have been the villian for the other books, he isn't written well.

I liked him very much tbh. He was so wronged by everyone. Blaming him for the death of Maheret is like blaming the gun used to kill someone rather than the person that pulled the trigger. What I don't get, and never will is how idiotic the other vampires are to this fact. I swear, I just can't take to Lestat and have never been able to. He is so stupid and narrow minded. Anyone that flatters him is a okay in his book.
