Those things are scary AF. And then they grow up to be adults and terrify me even more.

Haydorama

Don’t know how them spiders aren’t terrified I’d be shitting it

Sleipnirs

At 0:04 you can see one of them trying to escape the monster's grasp. A desperate yet futile attempt.

CopyAngelTech

Tell me about it, I have one that's seven months old and has perfected terrifying maniacal laughter.

KarmaChameleon89

My niece gives you this side eye and gurgles then laughs her ass off like she didn't just fuxking evil dead me

CopyAngelTech

Creepy...

aenonymosity

I will come back and upvote after some moves it from 42. Just gotta find my towel first.

a-guy-from-Indy

They can be really evil and manipulative once they mature.

bg370

Nah, she looks cool

ttubehtnitahwtahw1

I think they are genus homosapien.

Stillhaunted88

I’m 16 and i find them cute

RedGoth033

Could be a Goliath Birdeater judging by size, so I would say it's probably Brasil? I could be wrong though.

TheAgreeableCow

Yeah, we don't have spiders that big in Australia. Anyway, it's the little ones you have to worry about, a redback is only around 15mm (less than an inch).

underthingy

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selenocosmia_crassipes Almost as big as the one in the video.

Ok_Seaworthiness2218

Damn that's big spider...but i ain't spending any time on it because every 3 months a person gets torn to pieces by a crocodile in North Queensland.

Joker-Smurf

And their legs go that way, and their guts goes that way.

EveryTimeLaughing

And then some poor bastard has to find the parts (pieces)

Infuses

I used to have a chat with Bob Katter when it was voting time, he'd always be out the front of the school having a yarn with the locals. He's a good bloke, but fucking bananas at the same time.

floriane_m

they get swallowed and slowly digested in the gutz of the croc.

willswain

There’s no way the linked tarantula is almost as big as the one in the video. It’s mentioned to have an 8” leg span, the ones in the video almost certainly are larger. You can almost see that if one fully extended its leg it would span across that little girl shoulder to shoulder, definitely more than 8”.

Seppi449

The spiders in the video look to have double the leg span, 16 cm is big but if you squish the spider out and measure the legs flat it becomes more reasonable to think how big one. The spider you linked is probably the size of your palm while the ones in the video would be as big as your face.

sboxle

Redbacks are common but haven’t killed anyone since the 50s (and not everyone reacts to the venom). They’re also chill and non-aggressive. Funnel web is most dangerous in Australia but thankfully not widespread.

14X8000m

Huntsman can get pretty big.

WazWaz

15mm is an awfully small redback. Are you not including the legs? I'd say about 30mm average.

KeithMyArthe

> we don't have spiders that big in Australia .. we probably do, but no one who's ever seen one has lived to tell the tale.

dream-smasher

Redbacks aren't really anything to worry about. Most people are scared of them, but it has been decades since anyone was killed by one, and the most that it can do it leave you with long lasting side effects of a bite. Now funnel webs, on the other hand...bigger and more deadly...

PrimusDCE

The general consensus in the tarantula subreddit was Grammostola grossa and in South America.

RedGoth033

I had to google it, because I didn't know this species, but after seeing pictures, I would agree with Grammostola grossa.

subaru22bsti

One of them. one of them

magicbeaver

I used to have like about 10 of them

callmenoodles

If it is its dangerous for the spider. From watching other tarantula experts Goliath are pretty fragile to drops.

graveyardspin

I held a huge tarantula at a wildlife rescue a while back and one of the handlers explained that large tarantulas instinctively won't bite the surface they are standing on because it could cause them to fall. And for certain species, even six inches could be a fatal fall.

granadesnhorseshoes

pretty sure they are more "fragile" to falls in the same way a lion is more fragile to falls than a house cat.

cjameson83

I'm sure that's actually accurate. I'd be willing to bet a lion is far more likely to get hurt from a fall than a house cat.

crosstherubicon

Australia doesn’t have many tarantulas and the background doesn’t look like Australian bush.

BlockBuilder408

Not to mention the flora and architecture and the Portuguese you can see in the background

Sylvathane

Theraphosa stirmi is much more brown with less hairs and little strips on their knees. Way cuter tbh Edit: spelling

RedGoth033

Well, tbh I am no expert in tarantulas and judged by size mostly. Someone pointed out it could be a Grammostola grossa and yes, it looks much more like the spider in the video.

Sylvathane

No worries, Rereading my comment sounded extremely condescending I'm so sorry! I just love tarantulas!

RedGoth033

Oh don't worry. I didn't read it as condescending. Everything is fine.

rp3rsaud

The writing on the building says Eco Parque Cia Aventura. So Brazil and probably Goliath Birdeater.

GabbyTheMurderer

The fact this child has no fear and I still jump at the sight of snakes, let only this bs

stranger_42066669

This is why I think kids should be raised around animals that are usually unreasonably feared. Plus it's good education.

Creative-Bar1960

Well snakes are dangerous so it's good to be cautious around them but spiders are often feared because of their looks rather than lethality

Exist50

There's plenty of people who fear snakes despite living in areas where the vast majority are non-venomous.

GabbyTheMurderer

That’s me lmao, 100% me. I don’t mind them as long as they ain’t near me 😭

[deleted]

[удалено]

stranger_42066669

Well, kids would be fine around garter snakes and probably hog noses (even though they're mildly venomous). I wouldn't let children handle large constrictors until they're at least over 10 and still never alone.

NWCJ

Nothing wrong with fearing non-lethal things. I am scared to put my balls in an bear trap, not worried that it would kill me. Some spider bites while non-lethal will absolutely fuck your life up.

arremessar_ausente

Which raises the question, does a kid that knows nothing would fear a spider because of its "looks". It's a human that didn't even developed the concept of fear yet. Maybe 99% of fear is developed because of parents. If a mom screams at a spider, the baby will see that and concludes that spider is bad.

puristhipster

I had that shit burned out of me in school. It was show and tell, maybe 5th grade and some chick brought a tarantula the size of a medium plate. I was first, someone scared it and it just latched onto my arm. Felt like hundreds of itty bitty needles sunk in at once. I looked at her and said," take it off, or Im squashing it." Afterwards I realized I had a pretty tame reaction for not crushing it on pure reaction, and Ive been fine about them ever since. Scorpions can get fucked tho, things latch on and just start stinging, little bastards

NWCJ

Latched on like holding with legs, or biting down with fangs.

puristhipster

Legs, ida squashed that thing then and there if it bit me and likely would *not* be over spiders

dream-smasher

You wanna hear the worse bit about Tarantulas? Have you heard of their defence mechanism? >"*They have hairs on their abdomen that have sharp little barbs on them. When threatened, the spider will rub these hairs with their legs and shoot them at their predator.*" The first time i heard about that, was a woman who bought a tarantula in an attempt to cure her arachnophobia. She picked it up, and brought it closer to her face... She didnt get bitten, but she ended up with several of their barbed hairs embedded in her eyeball!!!!

puristhipster

Wtf

gn01145600

I don’t scared of no bugs when I was a kid. I am scared of a BUTTERFLY now.

RoyKentsKnee

Those aren't from Australia though.

IndestructibleBliss

Gotta love the misinformation and fear mongering. Clearly not Australia. Very much Goliath Bird Eaters which live in South America - and are harmless to humans (I believe). But they are massive and are the biggest spider species (afaik) Also I have arachniphobia but still an interest in understanding these guys.

desolatecontrol

I am the same fuckin way. Don't have much fear towards anything, but spiders? Whole different story. Love learning bout them though.

Potential-Sleep-3823

Their fangs are also sharp enough to slice open lizards, and are nearly 2 inches long. Not especially venomous, but getting bit would be like getting stabbed with a pencil.

kahlzun

Yeah they're way too small

starzwillsucceed

I'm gonna guess No Fuckin Thank You

ZogNowak

Just shoot me please!

kakapoopoopeepeeshir

“That uh wasn’t one of the choices” I’ll still take it thanks

ZogNowak

You may as well, cause I'd die anyway.

talrogsmash

You're out of cake? So my choices are ... ..., or death?

[deleted]

[удалено]

FALCOOOn_PAAWWNCH

oh well in that case i'd like double what shes having, no make it triple! all over my body, no worries! they'll be dead in 6 months! Hell that's about 6 months longer than me if I was her.

deadwlkn

Look to possibly be T Stirmi, which are from SA. Theyre known to be pretty skittish, mines batshit insane.

PMmeGayElfPeen

Interest piqued-- please describe your batshit insane spider further?

deadwlkn

When I open her cage, she likes to threat posture, jump across the thing into the opposite end, and or just start kicking like a crazy bitch. I have a feeling part of it is her total refusal to burrow but the simple bitch keeps filling the starter holes I make her. She may be just a grump though, because the guy i got her off of said she was being testy as hell before he tried to get her out when i bought her. Once I get this move done, I'll be making a new cage with a built-in burrow.

Atlas_sniper121

crazy how much spider temperment varies.

Rhaski

More likely Brazil. In Australia, few of our spiders are anywhere near that big and the ones that we worry about (eg Redbacks, funnel webs) are only about 2-3cm (size of a quarter or about 1/4500th the length of a football field for Americans), because those are venomous and tend to like to live in places where people put their fingers (under chairs, fence rails etc). Absolute units like OP posted are (usually) not so venomous

IndestructibleBliss

Typically I think the smaller spiders are more venomous. Here it's Black Widows. We have dock spiders which are big by Canadian standards- they live near water and catch small fish to eat (also known as "fishing spiders")but they're harmless to people People think the big ones are scary but really usually not the ones to worry about. They just wanna be left alone!

TheThirdRnner

I'm tempted to send this to my wife and fuck her whole day up.

Effective_Nobody2601

Dewit

Mazda256

reasons why I wouldn’t let a child handle these. Even tho she is handling them remarkably well for a girl her age. 1: she can drop them, which would be a long slow death sentence for the spiders 2: they’re spiders, while they can be handle friendly, they’re still a primitive small venomous animal, that can be easily startled into a bite. Plus the urticating hairs can be dangerous with children because they can easily rub them into their eyes or nose. But props to that little girl for hee careful handling tho. However like snakes I wouldn’t let a child that small handle such animals. Just saw the ending, they’re f’in wild?! What wild spider is that docile?!

Shadowveil666

.. Why do you think their wild from the end? Because they're on the ground? Furthermore what difference would that even make? Spiders aren't domesticated there's virtually no difference between an actual wild spider and one you " raised "

Atlas_sniper121

spiders tend to very a shit ton in temperment. seems to have gotten lucky with these two spiders.

Mazda256

I’ve seen cobalt blues be violently mean, even worse than a irritated cobra to anything that ……. Well existed. I’ve also seen them just chill on people’s shoulders or hands and let people pet them. Spiders are interesting personality wise.

Wizdad-1000

Honestly, when we learn how to communicate with these guys Im very curious as to what is their thought process is.

Nathaniel820

Every wild spider I’ve ever encountered was that docile, they don’t have any reason to bite you unless you’re literally squeezing them.

[deleted]

Not Australia.

[deleted]

As a Canadian who has seen dozens of bears, been charged by a moose and heard wolves at night while solo camping… fuck Australia. You can keep your spiders and snakes

[deleted]

As an Australian, I haven't seen spiders like this. It's definitely South America.

ArticleMother

Nope, I live in Australia and have come across many snakes and spiders, however they leave you alone as long as you leave them alone... We can't say the same about your bears, moose and wolves. They go out of their way to kill you. Edit: it has come to my attention that "mooses" isn't correct... Sorry for saying it wrong, I don't ever need to say that word in Australia...

StabbingHobo

Meese* Sheesh, why are plural words so hard??? /s

KingSpanky

Many much moosen.

ArticleMother

Haha

ArticleMother

**Mace sorry mate. I was distracted by my children trying to swim in that dirty billabong.

meisterofheff

Tell me about the moose that broke your heart. And dude, it wasn’t your fault!

ArticleMother

To be quite frank, my stupid human Willie was simply not enough for that massive moose

ArticleMother

Some would argue in my defence, that she was loose as a moose.

[deleted]

I dunno man… I’ve never had to check my toilet bowl for a moose, or my boots for a bear hiding in them, or a wolf hiding under the car door handle Big mammals typically want to avoid humans. And there’s many precautions you can take to help avoid surprise encounters while out in the bush Them little fuckers can be literally anywhere!

ArticleMother

To be honest, I've never had that problem unless I'm in the bush camping. The only thing you may find in your boots really are mice or roaches.

Jibber_Fight

What?! Lol. Pretty sure bears, moose, and wolves have a basically zero-human-attacks-a-year.

Atlas_sniper121

maybe wolves but i mean bears and especially moose are still dangerous, crazy bastards.

Exist50

Dangerous, maybe, but they will still mostly leave you alone if you do the same.

[deleted]

Kinda like there are almost zero deaths from spiders and snakes in Australia then?

Jibber_Fight

Never said there was?

ArticleMother

I mean... dude... we had a fatality with a easter Brown in Queensland like a month ago... 😬

[deleted]

My brother in Christ fatal snake bites have become so rare since the introduction of a national antivenom program, that only two people die per year on average. That's 0.03 people per 100 000. There have been no deaths in Australia from a confirmed spider bite since 1979.

ArticleMother

Clearly... however in Australia, people still die from snake bites... especially if it's an eastern brown and you don't know proper first aid while you wait for the paramedics. The venom of an Easter brown snake has the potential to kill a fully grown male in 15 minutes... the venom runs through the lymphatic system, so if you aren't staying as still as possible, you're almost guaranteed to die. Though antivenom has been a game changer, there are still at least 2 deaths every year from snake bites in Australia. Ain't nobody talking about deaths from a spider bite?

kahlzun

What's the proper first aid for a snake bite?

ArticleMother

You're joking right? I have watched plenty of videos of bears moose and wolves attacking people in the woods... seen plenty of news reports about it as well.

Exist50

Where? For wolves, the known world-wide list is single digit per year. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wolf_attacks

Exist50

> We can't say the same about your bears, moose and wolves. Yes, you absolutely can. None of those actively seek out and target humans.

MesozOwen

We don’t have many spiders like this in Aus.

[deleted]

Theyre not Australian spiders

IndestructibleBliss

Not every giant spider is Australian

thasnazgul

[Hold still sweetie! ](https://imgur.com/a/znnJNqH)

abitofasitdown

It's basically a puppy at that size, isn't it?

valkarin

That's a Nope Spider from the Never Going There Jungle in Fuckthatastan

Its_Sentinel

That’s pretty adorable tbh

enecv

serious question: what is the real danger about that things? painfull bites? poison?

somewhereinafrica

Venom, not poison. If it bites you & you die, it's venom. If you bite it & you die, it's poison.

enecv

ok thanks, but still , what is the real danger about those big spiders ?

andre2142

Most likely a painful bite because of the size of their fangs, but the actual venom itself would be like a bee sting, depending on species of course.

enecv

Thanks !!

kubzU

I guess im in the minority who actually find tarantulas kinda cute.

breadeggsmilkbees

Yeah, they're good little buddies.

jolly2691

Noooooooooooooope nope nope nope no nononononnonoooooooooooope

[deleted]

Nope!

nerghoul

GlockAF

Show and tell day at school is gonna be LIT

[deleted]

Adventurous57

That is a great big bag of fuck that shit.

TheGreatWolfOkami7

Abandon the child.

opposing_critter

We name our spiders

dandeluxe

South America. 1936. 🤠

SynthPrax

No. Aussies don't play with spiders.

punx_a_hippie

Also not here to fuck them either

kryptomicron

Of course some of you cunts play with your spiders! There's lots of videos of your people playing with your Huntsmans.

EatenAliveByWolves

Austalian teddy bear. 💀

Tonyhillzone

Tasty when cooked.

daruki

Tonyhillzone

Nope. More like Nutella.

farmygirl1

Nah not Australia

Shintri

Hey those spiders are only supposed to be in maternity wards to prep children for life in Australia! Staff member must have snuggled then out.

juancn

Aussie doggo

LeSnake04

Someone better call the EDF...

sipes216

Could be texas, or the us south. Tarantulas are normal enough in wild fields here.

[deleted]

Noted for places to avoid on vacation lol.

sipes216

Its really not that bad. Though they are native here, you really have to be looking for them in wilderness areas. You wont find them in the metroplex

JynxedMonkey

People!! This is what we've prepared for... STOP, DROP, AND ROLL!!!

WhosTaddyMason

I don’t mind big spiders I just hate massive groups of tiny spiders

colinshark

I enjoy not when spiders have the little "feet".

macemarksman001

Nope nope nope nope nope nope

0hs0cl0se

What type of dog is that

halucionagen-0-Matik

Hmm I don't trust that at all. They could fall off quite easily and even a small fall for tarantulas can be fatal

Secure-Issue294

Not the therapy im lookn for

violet91

This video will visit me in my nightmares!

breadeggsmilkbees

Disney princess.

Jbruce63

Future Horror show host

Truthisnotallowed

Wednesday Addams prequel.

voivod1989

I wish as a kid I didn’t see my dad run away from ants screaming. Now I’m an adult who is afraid of bugs.

[deleted]

Wrong

[deleted]

No offense, but the girl's head looks like its the size of the Jeff Bezos head in that one South Park episode. Probably got a big ol' ass coming out the back of her head too.

gjloh26

Mr. Skinny Legs! Oh I forgot, that episode was banned in Australia.

OllieMoe

South America.

BigFStop

I'm going to speak on behalf of all Australians.... Fuck that shit

Osiris_Raphious

Tarantulas are not native to australia....

mbitnit

Looking at the life vests I’m assuming this is on the Amazon river.

andre2142

Imagine having a spider the size of your torso...on your torso

buellerface918

So much nope, rather play with danger rope

Marblz88

We don’t teach our kids to play with spiders in Australia because if they pick up the wrong one they could end up dead. Plus our spiders are (generally) smaller.

ElegantAd4946

Fuck no

Numerous_Living_3452

Just because it's big does not mean it will hurt... 😏

fretit

Future "black widow" in training.

Life_Faithlessness90

Only she may travel safely in Australia.

Wonthebiggestlottery

Nah. That’s not one of ours.

[deleted]

Why am I subbed here?!!!!!

jethrow41487

What’s wrong with her dog?

haven_taclue

Arizona comes to mind too.

lefttackle72

I’m gonna guess things white people love.

CapinWinky

Australia doesn't allow episodes of children's shows that tell kids not to be afraid of spiders because there are too many venomous ones. This is definitely the Americas. Either the US southwest or south America would be my guess.

Darkconer

I was sitting on the toilet hiding at work and now I'm going back

northernwolf3000

I’m gonna guess NOPE!

Uncle_Touchy1987

I’d rather suck start a pistol.

Hanshee

Those are probably not wild spiders

ConstantineFavre

Oh, that spiders are so cute. They gotten to big, fluffy and webless to be scary, now they are adorable!

Scotty2balls

She’s gonna be 18 and have a whole bunch of them

emmastring

She's so cute with her little pipe cleaner, string pets😍😍😍😍😍

spellbookwanda

At first I thought the title of this post was “I guess I’m going to Australia!”

Outrageous_Ad5727

Oh big NO

Man_in_the_uk

Not poisonous then? 🤔

Njfurlong

Don't think Australia, I'm guessing South America.

Stillhaunted88

Aww how cute the spiders are cute
