As people have mentioned, it's a venomous snake. It's also exceptionally aggressive for a snake, and is one of the few known to have actually chased after people to bite them.
As a Floridian, they scare me a lot more than the gators (which are generally too lazy to do anything unless you really provoke them).
As a Floridaman. Meh. They generally don't want to fuck with people.
Edit: there's, on average, 7 unprovoked attacks by gators on people annually. There's an estimated 1,250,000 alligators in Florida.
I repeat, for all of you downvoters that aren't commenting, generally they don't fuck with people.
Cause life is meant to be lived?
Personally, I wouldn't swim there as there's pools nearby and other options. But Florida has many beautiful springs and other sources of water, it would be a shame to not swim in them.
The world is a beautiful and dangerous place. Something somewhere is gonna kill you, even if its your own body as a result of age, why not do the thing and enjoy it as much as you can?
Edit: would love to know why this is getting down votes. Too bad they locked the posts for some random reason
You mean the small-animal-sized-human that was attacked during a time that gators normally attack prey?
I stand by my statement. *Generally* they don't fuck with people. There are always exceptions
Its a good idea to stay out of the water so you don't get barred from the parks. Not so you don't have a 0.00056% chance of getting attacked by an alligator
We swam in all of the waterways in the 80s because gators were seriously endangered at the time & rarely seen. Laws were put in place to protect them and then they became wildly overpopulated & you can now assume they are in every body of water.
Flesh eating bacteria is naturally found in warm brackish salt water. Brain eating amoeba are found in warm fresh water, but usually not anything above 80F
Probably worry about the second more than the first.
Cause they were written by Disney's lawyers. I wouldn't be surprised if they listed everything in Florida that can get you no matter if it it can be found in the park or not.
I dropped a (cheap) earring in it once by accident, pretty close to the rocks (French Quarter side). Not worth risking falling in or sticking my hand in that water. Just went online and ordered myself a new pair and I figure now that I have three, I’ve got a spare for next time my dumb ass carelessly throws my hair into a pony tail.

I witnessed a guest yesterday at TTC security dismantling all the ropes because “the whole system is messed up”. Yup, spring break brings the best guests here. *chef’s kiss*
Then there’s “I can barely afford Disney put it all on my credit card to pay off for next 24 months flew on spirit airlines and wore 13 layers of clothes to save on luggage”
💯 One year, while visiting WDW during Spring Break, I overheard a woman tell her friend. "You know why it's so busy today? Because Easter is on a Sunday this year." 🤦🏿♀️
If only there was a safer place to swim with clean water, no boats passing or animals that want to eat you. Why can’t Disney offer something like that? The humanity of it all!!
I'm from Florida and I won't even let my son walk on the water side of any pathway bc we've seen gators living their best life in Disney waters. As an adult I walk in full attention mode anywhere near canals and bodies of water. This guy is asking (begging) for a gator attack and then WE will be the ones to suffer from his stupidity and recklessness.
Yup. Same. I've seen gators at the Epcot resorts before (canal in front of Y&B club), along with a four foot long snake in a guest area one evening.
Watch yourselves. Where there's water, there are gators.
gators are basically in every fresh water body in florida. people swim in the rivers and lakes and springs in florida all the time without being attacked by gators.
(not defending this person because this was dumb for many reasons but not for gator reasons.)
A lot of people don’t realize that gators are mostly in the shallows of still water. Plenty of good swimming holes that are deep and fun throughout gator country. I would be more worried about microbes and resort craft in that river.
And if an alligator got her, they hunt the gator and kill it. Not the gator’s fault it’s their nature. The like I live by a gator was killing a person’s chickens. Fish and wildlife came out and killed it.
When I was a young kid I sat on the edge of that waterway with my feet in the water while staying at the treehouses. Thinking back on that now, I was indeed a stupid kid. 🐊
We stayed at Riverside last fall and every single time I saw that canal, I had all of these intrusive thoughts about jumping in. We were hot and sweaty and exhausted, and I just knew that plunging into that rippling water would be so refreshing.
Instead I went back to our hotel room and simply took a shower 💁🏻♀️💕
Well first, swimming in a body of water with alligators is hands down worse. Takes some real prudishness about the human body to even casually wonder whether someone risking death or maiming is better or worse than some kids potentially seeing boobs, lol. And second, it’s not at all clear that’s a woman, let alone a topless one?
Ok I’m not going to lie I’ve always been curious about what would happen if someone swam in these. Not from a ban perspective but how deep is the water? How does the water feel? Stupid yes, but somedays I do wonder
The main pool yes, but their leisure pools are still open. As are all of the ones at Riverside. Also, from the image this looks like she’s in the water at Magnolia Bend at Riverside
Here’s the problem. We could allow Darwinism, but then when this lady gets her leg bitten off by a gator, she’ll sue Disney for millions, then becomes an elite member of society, and then will continue to donate her genetic material and intelligence to the world community, now with money and social mobility, and this is how society collapses
Against WDW rules, sure, but this lady is less of a problem to me than park guests who are rude, cut in line, push, etc. I will trade a rude guest for one of these any time until seven seas lagoon is full of topless humans :)
For FL’s indecent exposure law see https://www.husseinandwebber.com/crimes/public-order-obstruction/exposure-of-sexual-organs/ . Mere nudity is insufficient to charge an individual.
You’re ignoring a major factor in the amount of minors.
According to Florida law, defined in section 800.03, indecent exposure of sexual organs (also known as "flashing") to children or minors is considered a serious sex crime and can carry long-term consequences for the accused.
This is a weird weird hill to die on my friend.
Dude you are taking this awfully seriously. I was just commenting that this is more funny than anything. Then you drag children into this funny thread and equate being topless with serious sex crime, as if you’re trying to be outraged. Sunbathing or swimming topless is not my thing but is normal to a lot of people. See US section of https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_social_nudity_places_in_North_America .
Normally DAs go after people like this https://ew.com/disneyland-small-world-naked-rider-8406696 or a dirty old man flashing kids because they can establish intent.
dude. its is a place where CHILDREN are at, and a lot of them. what makes you think anyone can walk around nude? its called indecent exposure and could very easily land on a sex offender list. idk if your a troll, or just being silly, but you know for a fact this is not allowed.

Please don’t swim *[MOSTLY NAKED](https://orlandothemeparkzone.com/2024/03/15/woman-swims-topless-in-sassagoula-river-at-disneys-port-orleans-resort-video/)* in the Sassagoula River… where children can see you.
I never swam in that drainage dit...err Sassagoula River but swam many times in Bay Lake! Some great memories playing on the beach at Fort Wilderness and swimming there!
Gator-unaware stupidity aspect aside, how about a counterpoint:
*This isn't Disneyland/world* is a common usage alluding to the nature of Disney or theme-park-ish places in general as being an environment "curated" to be safe for recreation in a way or extent that isn't generally the case.
In light of that, it's kinda ironic that something like this, a body of water adjoining a resort property at the actual Disney World, is such an exception.
If I were the architect of such a place, no random body of water would be off limits to guests, nor have any *reason to be* off limits to guests. Stormwater retention and gators and snakes and toxic algae - goes in the backstage somewhere, fenced off. Front of house water all ought to just, matter of fact, be guest access. Why? Because that would be damn cool.
What if this bit of landscape architecture, having a "river" here, was not a stormwater ditch/pond, but a man-made flowing river that networks some resorts and nearby parks, and is an attraction in itself that absolutely blows away any mere pool area?
That’s also very close to where I saw a water moccasin.
Came here to say this as well. I’ve seen water moccasins swimming here more than once.
I don’t know what a water moccasin is but I’m guessing it’s not a cuddly slipper.
A snake, they’re venomous!
Also known as a Cottonmouth. Very nasty venomous snake that you do NOT want to be bitten by. And they love nasty water like that.
Water moccasins are cottonmouths, not copperheads.
And they swim MUCH faster than you.
Copperheads and cottonmouths are different snakes just FYI
Venomous snake that operates on the principle “If I bite you first, you won’t be able to attack me.” Aggressive SOBs.
I have had them chase me in a kayak and then onto land. 12 gauge shotgun ended the chase. Scary SOBs!
As people have mentioned, it's a venomous snake. It's also exceptionally aggressive for a snake, and is one of the few known to have actually chased after people to bite them. As a Floridian, they scare me a lot more than the gators (which are generally too lazy to do anything unless you really provoke them).
They are one of the worst nope ropes you can find.
:D Venomous snake that's super common in the swampy areas.
🐊
Yep. Hard nope for me just on that alone. That’s what all of the Disney pools are for.
But you can’t go topless in the pools
You can if you're not a coward
This guy gets it
I went topless at Blizzard Beach just last week! Sure I'm a guy but it still counts
You had me in the first half
Yeah, the top half! Wokka wokka!🥸
Fozzie Bear: "You guys wouldn't know a good joke if you fell over one!" Statler: "Well we're not in any danger with your act! Ahhahahahaha!" :)
Sure you can. Once. 😂
True. I wouldn’t want to though. Too many gawkers.
I mean, shouldn’t that be half the point? Def skip if you don’t want gawkers
It's because the French Quarter pool is closed. 😆 Nah. She's probably not a resort guest.
Cottonmouths and coral snakes too!
I do not disagree with you and you definitely know more than me about this. But...why tempt fate?
Cause life is meant to be lived? Personally, I wouldn't swim there as there's pools nearby and other options. But Florida has many beautiful springs and other sources of water, it would be a shame to not swim in them. The world is a beautiful and dangerous place. 99% of the time they leave you alone 100% of the time.
Ask the family of Lane Graves
You mean the small-animal-sized-human that was attacked during a time that gators normally attack prey? I stand by my statement. *Generally* they don't fuck with people. There are always exceptions
As a Florida man aswell . I concur
Until they do. It’s “generally” a good idea to stay out of the water
Its a good idea to stay out of the water so you don't get barred from the parks. Not so you don't have a 0.00056% chance of getting attacked by an alligator
You win the prize and are correct.
Another Floridian here,can confirm
There are signs all over resorts about them too.
I believe that was part of the settlement
[Poke Salad Annie,](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBfMLmNjFn4) the gators got your granny, chomp chomp-chomp
You know whats crazy. In the 80s we all swam in Bay lake with no cares.
We swam in all of the waterways in the 80s because gators were seriously endangered at the time & rarely seen. Laws were put in place to protect them and then they became wildly overpopulated & you can now assume they are in every body of water.
In one of my FB groups, the admin "confirmed with someone with Disney" that the woman was a day guest and was trespassed.
The idea of doing something so stupid Ave never being able to visit WDW is astounding to me.
You assume there is thinking at all
I have to assume a serious mental illness. No way was this a rational decision. I hope she’s getting the help she needs.
Not everything is a sign of a serious mental illness. Some people are just wildly stupid. And/or drunk.
Bullshit. Disney officially would not give this information out to a random.
Who said it was official? Could have been a friend from landscaping, cleaning, etc.
That's why I used quotation marks.
So lunch for the alligators? Flesh eating amoeba? Some other gross bacteria?
Dont forget the brain eating amoeba.
They'll starve before they get much out of this particular victim.
Sick burn!
Or the majority of Floridians
Flesh eating bacteria is naturally found in warm brackish salt water. Brain eating amoeba are found in warm fresh water, but usually not anything above 80F Probably worry about the second more than the first.
Hmm, learn something new every day Still not getting in that water
Yeah, I feel that. Especially since the pools are right fuckin there. I'd bet that water is at or near 80F
The runDisney waivers include Naegleria fowleri lol
Cause they were written by Disney's lawyers. I wouldn't be surprised if they listed everything in Florida that can get you no matter if it it can be found in the park or not.
For real. We stayed at Riverside. I wouldn’t go anywhere near that water.
¿Por que no los tres?
I gonna need to know the full story behind this one. 1. Mental Illness? 2. Intoxication? 3. Stupidity?
MCS - Main Character Syndrome. So many guests think everything revolves around them & they're the exception to the rules.
This one always irks me. I hate when people so obviously think they’re the main character when clearly it’s me.
[удалено]
I am a side quest. Thankfully my wife is a 100% completionist type.
Ok that’s adorable.
Hopefully you're a repeatable quest.
I’m definitely an NPC. That’s why I only have three bits of dialogue, including this!
Why is it raining? Can't you turn the weather bubble to sunny?
Gators probably think the same. The difference is gators can back that up with their bite force.
For once, probably NOT Florida man.
Every other state is thankful for that stereotype...pretending people don't do dumb things where they live. A lot of dumb things.
4. All of the above?
I suspect some did a little to much drinking around the world…

And not just swimming, swimming topless is the article I saw.
MCS - Main Character Syndrome. So many guests think everything revolves around them.
The roll of death as the alligator tries to take their arm off might technically prove them right.
How about all 3?
Yes
I witnessed a guest yesterday at TTC security dismantling all the ropes because “the whole system is messed up”. Yup, spring break brings the best guests here. *chef’s kiss*
There's vacation brain, and then there's whatever that individual has going on
Alcohol. I believe alcohol will play a nice part.
Then there’s “I can barely afford Disney put it all on my credit card to pay off for next 24 months flew on spirit airlines and wore 13 layers of clothes to save on luggage”
Maybe I’m glad I’m blocked out for the next few weeks!
💯 One year, while visiting WDW during Spring Break, I overheard a woman tell her friend. "You know why it's so busy today? Because Easter is on a Sunday this year." 🤦🏿♀️
Confused alligator sounds “Did someone order lunch?”
Heard the alligators preordered on the app!
It’s the best way to do it on spring break
This person is going to post later on this sub to tell us “the magic is gone” after being trespassed.
“Walt is spinning in his grave knowing they won’t let us swim in the river!”
Local here. Zero percent chance I’m going in that water unless it’s to save my kid. Hope her tetanus shot is up to date.
I have seen alligators on the other side of the bank before
If only there was a safer place to swim with clean water, no boats passing or animals that want to eat you. Why can’t Disney offer something like that? The humanity of it all!!
There’s only six pools in riverside and none of them have a lazy river
Well then really this is Disney’s fault. She should sue if a gator fits her foot, or gets some sort of infection from nasty water.
All the gators have clocks in their bellies so just listen for the ticking
Wow. That's a new one.
Spring break in Florida is like mobile ordering for gators.
This has to count for two table meals in the DDP for the gator
I would say watch out for the brain eating amoeba but I don’t think there is much to snack on.
I think I'd worry more about the water moccasins than the gators at that point. Either way, she was begging for trouble.
Sometimes Darwinism is a good thing.

Is this person unaware of the gators in Florida?

This is how fences get put up like the ones at the Poly.
Alligator warnings are on the path. These people are not very bright.
our first moments in PORS we saw 2 gators in the lakes. Gators and humans do not mix.
Population control 🤷♀️
When I was a young kid I sat on the edge of that waterway with my feet in the water while staying at the treehouses. Thinking back on that now, I was indeed a stupid kid. 🐊
Even if there was a 100% guarantee that there were no alligators or snakes, I’ve seen that water. I am not getting in it. 😖
Do you want to get eaten by alligators? Because that’s how you get eaten by alligators.
Don’t interfere with natural selection
They got mobile order for alligators now?
We stayed at Riverside last fall and every single time I saw that canal, I had all of these intrusive thoughts about jumping in. We were hot and sweaty and exhausted, and I just knew that plunging into that rippling water would be so refreshing. Instead I went back to our hotel room and simply took a shower 💁🏻♀️💕
No I disagree. For the sake of the rest of the human race, let them swim
People are freaking idiots. She gets eaten by a gator and her family will try to sue.
Idk what's worse, the fact that she was topless at a resort for families or that she decided to swim *alone* in a body of water full of alligators.
Natural selection at work
I think the safety is worse. Imagine if others had joined her. Or if it becomes a tiktok thing.
Well first, swimming in a body of water with alligators is hands down worse. oh no not breasts
Oh no, what if a baby sees a breast? They might want lunch more than the alligators!
Gators need food too
People have lost their damn minds
There are 🐊 in that. Are people so ignorant that they can’t see the signs every 20 feet?
It was me. I had a hot flash!!! LOL!
Is this an automatic ban? Could be dangerous with the boats going through there. They’re not used to having to be on the lookout for people swimming
I wouldn’t even jump in a puddle in Florida 😂
Tough time when gators get Door Dash more frequently than I do
What the hell? Are they nuts???
She was just testing out the new Disney Triathlon route.
Those alligator bites hurt.
Gator bait! r/DarwinAward
what an absolute ding dong this person is
Ok I’m not going to lie I’ve always been curious about what would happen if someone swam in these. Not from a ban perspective but how deep is the water? How does the water feel? Stupid yes, but somedays I do wonder
"How does the water feel?" Ummmm, wet?
“You know because it was Disney I thought it would be magic water but this water wasn’t”
I think they are bathing not swimming.
Literally seen gators in the waters at Disney. No thanks.
It *is* a swamp.
Enjoy your perma ban
Florida man baptism
If you’re gonna be stupid, ya gotta be tough.
I think that the pool at French Quarter is being fixed right now, but this is not a good reason to become alligator food.
Then take your butt to riverside pool.
Yes, an intelligent person would do that. This person must have been drunk.
The main pool yes, but their leisure pools are still open. As are all of the ones at Riverside. Also, from the image this looks like she’s in the water at Magnolia Bend at Riverside
Don’t tell me how to live my life. (I’m kidding. Sorry. Don’t swim in FL waters.)
Ew
There’s gators in there
There are gators….
Doesn't he realize why yet. I mean I want to enjoy looking at the areas without a damn fe tlce around them. Why do.pple have to ruin it with stupidity
Time for more ropes

I wonder how good Disney gator control is?
Some people think they are such free spirits that they lose all common sense
Oh my! Just why ??
He dead
wtf!?!?!
It's like people just get stupider.
Lord
Is that the topless lady?
This is some weapons grade stupidity
Natural selection

I'd be more worried about kids seeing someone get eaten by a gator than kids seeing someone with no clothing.
Why? It’s all nature and natural. The human body. The food chain. Two sides of the same coin
I was making a point about the commenter worrying more about kids seeing naked bodies than violent death.
I never swam in that drainage dit...err Sassagoula River but swam many times in Bay Lake! Some great memories playing on the beach at Fort Wilderness and swimming there!
