The main color is a mix of Dryad Bark and Zandri Dust. The dusty looks is from two things; a very watery layer of Zandri Dust, then I wick away the water leaving the paint in the nooks and crannies, second a dusting of pigment powder.
When i read the book as a kid the Sardaukar were straight up Astartes in my imagination. I liked the new films a lot but i'd have liked some bigger shoulder pauldrons on the Emperor's elite soldiers.
