Feel like the Carrera has more flexibility and can be a dress and sport watch at the same time. Could be a daily driver. The Longines feels quite like more of an occasion/dress watch.

mcmanninc

I agree. It's subtle, but the Carrera would win out for me, too.

codyforkstacks

This sub has an aversion to wearing anything mildly dressy in a casual setting, but honestly that Longines on a steel bracelet would look better with a casual outfit than many of the sportier watches I see posted here being worn with a suit.

FireVanGorder

The question isn’t about the Longines vs a diver though? It’s about the Longines vs the Tag, and between the two the Tag is more versatile. Even ignoring things like lume and water resistance, the tag has a more modern design language than the Longines

codyforkstacks

Oh sure, I understand it's not a comparison to a diver. I just think that Longines looks absolutely fine with a casual outfit. Of course taste is entirely subjective, but I do think this sub sometimes obsesses over a watch being too dressy. That Longines looks like what 99% of the world would consider just a nice, classy watch, rather than something specifically dressy. At the end of the day I think these both are pretty versatile watches that you could wear in most situations, I just happen to subjectively think the Longines is nicer.

FireVanGorder

99% of the world also wouldn’t notice if you wore a diver with a tuxedo but people lose their shit over that all the time as well. You can certainly prefer one over the other. But that longines is a dress watch and the tag is a sports watch. That part isn’t subjective. A sports watch is more versatile than a dress watch to a group of watch enthusiasts, which is what this sub is.

codyforkstacks

Of course it's all subjective. My subjective opinion is that a sports watch worn with a suit looks more out of place than this particular dress watch - given its steel bracelet - looks with a casual outfit. That's just as valid as the contrary opinion.

FireVanGorder

Right so now you’re doing the exact same thing you whined about the rest of this sub doing lol we’ve come full circle

DragApprehensive336

I prefer the Tag. The 6 o'clock date is nice, at least there's some type of lume, and it's got a much better water resistance rating.

melowdout

Yeah, I own a Carrera. Great watch regardless of the hate Tag gets.

boardsandfilm

Just throwing this out there, Oris made a beautiful silver dial Artelier that matches this style, and is around 2K or less if you can find it. Great watch, movement, and bracelet. https://preview.redd.it/lvcva4dezy5d1.jpeg?width=455&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f7a67729ab96d4103076ec345dbb4a39c2d5f1e7

[deleted]

I found this watch for $1000 on WatchMaxx (which appears to be a NYC based jeweler/watch store). Any thoughts on if it’s legit? That’s 57% off and would be a steal

nixthewiz

Watchmaxx is legit but they are a grey market dealer which means you might not get official factory warranty.

[deleted]

Good to know. Their Yelp reviews are horrible, but for 57% off I figured there’s probably risk I run into issues. Have you ordered from them before? Having a hard time finding this watch elsewhere but I am wary of their reviews

boardsandfilm

They're legit! You'll definitely get the watch in new condition, but like the other guy said, the warranty may be expired or void, but I mean, who cares? But it's not like you'll get an empty box or they won't respond. Also I'm glad you like this one, I feel like I actually helped someone on reddit for once.

boardsandfilm

"WatchMaxx.com sells 100% authentic, brand new merchandise, complete with the manufacturer’s packaging and a minimum 2-year guarantee with service or repair by WatchMaxx. " So you're pretty much good to go.

brotie

It’s the same deal as jomashop, grey market and they offer a store warranty in place of the factory one. I’ve never had a problem with that model, it’s rare that a watch in this price range has a warranty level problem in the first two years anyways.

EatingADamnSalad

I bought an Oris from Watchmaxx. No issues. Would buy from them again. I recently sold that watch but definitely intend on purchasing another Oris in the near future.

[deleted]

Shipped and delivered ok? I’ve seen some horror stories

EatingADamnSalad

Yes. Did you end up deciding on the Tag? I’ve had both and would choose Oris over Tag.

[deleted]

Still debating. Only ever found that Oris on Watchmaxx and am unsure if I want to deal with a grey market. If I could find it elsewhere I’d probably lean Oris over Tag

EatingADamnSalad

Hmmm. You’re right. I’m not seeing that model anywhere else. But that’s a great price from Watchmaxx. I remember the shipping being fast as well.

nixthewiz

Haven't bought from them but from what I've heard if you need them to fix and issue with the watch you bought their customer service is subpar. You decide if 57% off is worth it to you I guess.

Martyr-X

I was looking at this watch, different dial, for a while, and yes the best price I found was on Watchmaxx. However, if you can find one or wait for one, there is a code you can use to get these Artelier watches for around $700-800 .

[deleted]

Watchmaxx sketches me out haha

Martyr-X

Yes, it sketches me out too haha Btw I think you might have a similar problem with the Artelier as you would with the flagship, where it’s a little dressier than the Carrera (my preference of the 3, and also on my personal list). Although the Artelier is kind of a middle ground between the other 2. Bracelets makes a big difference here

[deleted]

I think I’ve finalized my choice on the Tag because it’s a bit more versatile, I entirely agree. If I’m paying the money I want a watch I can wear to work, out, and dinners. Not just formal events

Martyr-X

Great choice. If you decide to go grey market, you can get it for around $1k

Odd-Dig-4981

Damn that dial is sexy.

mcmanninc

And that bracelet! Very purty.

RXC9

https://preview.redd.it/am4ob6jyj06d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7fd2de062ee244f340fd5cbb686ad7996b41fe60 I can vouch for the Oris Artielier! (albeit on what looks like a more common bracelet?) (And also in need of a bit of a clean, ignore that…)

jacob4568

You have to prefer one bracelet to the other... Which one

[deleted]

I prefer the tag bracelet, but was going to contact Longines to see if they’d swap that bracelet to the one they use for their Conquest line

makemeking706

I mean, swapping the bracelet is almost trivial.

jacob4568

Buying 2 bracelets is non trivial.... And a company doesn't necessarily have spare bracelets or even keep stock of different bracelets at the same factory.

makemeking706

There are so many third party bracelet manufacturers making quality products, I wouldn't waste money on an oem bracelet.

777MAD777

The TAG is much more interesting!

itemluminouswadison

i personally went longines spirit instead longines generally gives you more bang for the buck. 2892 based movements instead of the SW200's in a lot of tags. the newer carrera 36mm has the SW300, though, which is 2892 tier https://preview.redd.it/rzpge3yoxz5d1.png?width=791&format=png&auto=webp&s=550358fb4611ec2d81c64f45d6a0f770748d1e69 the new longines conquest is a real nice on too. comes in 38mm and 41mm

[deleted]

Great I’ll take a look!

melcolnik

Personally I prefer the TAG. But see if you can get these pre-owned. You’ll save a boat load

Exciting-Inside2219

Tag has been on a tear lately.

Boss452

The Carreras they have been making the past few years are masterpieces.

Responsible-Salt-443

I agree. I struggle with their pricing but they really stepped up their game the last few years.

[deleted]

What do you mean?

yumstheman

Meaning a lot of their updated designs look great.

circuit_heart

The Carrera is both more cleanly designed and able to dress up or down. IMO snag one while Internet sentiment is still against Tag Heuer. Used pricing is competitive with other brands but there is something special about this case and face. https://preview.redd.it/849y6a7c906d1.jpeg?width=2527&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6aaf76e2effc62f000e54bcb7334a0be2da63d0a

[deleted]

Beautiful. That’s what I’m leaning towards. Why is internet against them?

FireVanGorder

Tag made some clunkers during the quartz revolution and the watch world has an extremely long memory. The hate is overblown, imo. Their quality seems to me to be on par with other watchmakers in their price range, especially their newest models. There is a lot of pressure from the price bracket below them though. Companies like longines have really stepped up their game lately

Boss452

Carreras these days are masterpieces. I prefer them to many Rolexes or Omegas and JLCs even. One of the most versatile watches out there.

circuit_heart

I frankly don't get it either. Sure, Tag Heuer is always overpriced at retail, but they depreciate like Maseratis so just buy one a few years old. It's an easy to service, off-the-shelf movement, in a pragmatic, legible and durable watch. 19mm straps are harder to find if you move off the bracelet, but still possible (or custom order one).

samarofficial

Go for the Carrera! This and the black dial are very versatile. 👌

ktoro04

Tag heuer Carrera all day, the new reference Carreras are beautiful.

[deleted]

This is my answer I think!

ktoro04

Can’t go wrong with a tag heuer honestly.

_marcx

The longines beads of rice bracelets feel very cheap imo, the tag will just feel more robust!

[deleted]

Thanks for this. Solidifying my choice to go Tag for sure

codyforkstacks

https://preview.redd.it/8oc8yuuqa06d1.png?width=1079&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0fd225edbf2e4d0be000847e4dc0eb3be28b4d50 If you like the Longines but not the bracelet, I have this very similar watch with a different bracelet and absolutely love it. Super versatile - looks great with a suit or worn casually

The_Esotericist

I was going to suggest this one too! And I believe it has a nicer movement with a silicon balance spring.

Fun-Bumblebee9678

I like the longines

OrdinaryLandscape951

Typically I like longines better than tag, but these two are very similar and I like the straight markets on the tag better

moljor

I feel like the new/refreshed Longines Conquest might be a better option than the flagship?

matchooooh

Here is an idea out of left field: check out the Tudor 1926

SirCries-a-lot

Came here to say this.

SanderDieman

The TAG is definitely more versatile, but the Longines - certainly at its modest price point - is actually quite nice, bracelet and all. I’ve got it in the blue dial variant, and it’s a neat, indeed a bit dressy watch.

vctrmldrw

That longines bracelet looks like something from a medieval suit of armour. TAG for me.

[deleted]

That’s where I’m leaning I think. I love their Conquest series bracelet but unsure if I could get them to do that with the Flagship dial / watch

bryanthebryan

The minute hand of the Tag doesn’t reach the minute markers.

iDingo91

https://preview.redd.it/6yntpz2q316d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=41a06ca9a9bde71806e37a0300cc3166f56409a4 I recently got the Tag a month ago and love it.

[deleted]

So nice. I love it! Torn between blue and grey but I feel like I can’t go wrong

iDingo91

I was also torn between the two. But seeing that this was going to be my GADA watch, the blue made more sense for me as it matches a majority of my everyday clothes.

Swamivik

I wanted to throw up looking at that Longines bracelet

[deleted]

Bahahaha. I’ve decided I for sure like the Tag. Just have to swallow the price difference

RuddyOpposition

I've been wanting to try a beads of rice bracelet. The Tag bracelet looks like damn near every watch I've got. But, from this post, I'm more interested in that Oris.

Appropriate_Fly804

Check Longines conquest with grey dial. Tags has worse quality movement than Longines.

bukithd

Marginal differences between the Calibre 5 (ETA 2824/selita sw-200) and the L888 (ETA a31.l11 which is a slowed down eta 2892 clone) The Calibre 5 will be easier to regulate but the L888 will likely have finer tuning from factory.

[deleted]

The Conquest is nice as well but if I’m spending the money I think I’d rather go with an automatic over quartz is my only thought. I don’t mind recalibrating it every so often

Miza311

The new Conquest 38 looks wonderful and is an automatic.

Spicywolff

Looks wise the tag all day. It’s a much nicer looking watch IMO. the longines probably will hold value better and in watch circles be held at a higher tier.

TinyBreak2501

I hold Tag Heuer in a tier above Longines and just below Tudor.

Spicywolff

Kinda surprised. On here I’ve always seen tag as bottom for Long

TinyBreak2501

https://preview.redd.it/myofah1vjz5d1.jpeg?width=469&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9b8cec725196e587f3a5329c893c9006ff61f9ba

TechPanzer

Swap IWC with Breitling and it starts to make sense.

Spicywolff

Dude you know how many of these watch rankings are all opinion based and posted here in a regular basis? I don’t take those ranked charts seriously.

TinyBreak2501

But you’ll take a biased redditor’s opinion telling you that Longines are better than Tag Heuer?

Spicywolff

I never said that. I noted my observation never, claimed that it was fact

TinyBreak2501

You’re making claims like “Longines will be held in a higher tier in watch circles” and “On here I’ve always seen Tag as bottom for Long”. That’s exactly what you’re saying.

Fun-Bumblebee9678

That is comical having longines in that category

TinyBreak2501

Where would you put them?

Fun-Bumblebee9678

Middle

TinyBreak2501

They are only one row away from the middle, so not far off.

Fun-Bumblebee9678

They’re objectively better than ones like Hamilton , price point is way different too

FireVanGorder

Longines isn’t held above Tag, I don’t think. Before the Spirit series (which is absolutely stellar) Longines was held in roughly similar regard to Oris, Tissot, Mido, Hamilton, Baume et Mercier, etc. Personally I’d put tag somewhere between Longines and something like Tudor, even if Longines has separated themselves from their peers recently

MichaelLewisFan

Used TAG or one of the new Longines Conquests?

[deleted]

I’d be fine with a used like new TAG

likethevegetable

I'd also consider a Grand Seiko SBGX263 (other dial colors available).

Nashiwa

I have the Longines with a white dial and a leather strap, and I love it. In the end it's whichever you prefer, I think the Tag looks great as well

BatBusy5384

If those are the 2 options, the carrera

[deleted]

Just want to thank everyone for their opinion. What a great community

42Berner42

dude ive sold exactly this longines for 500$ 😂 it was used (no scratches on the glass) but i guess catawiki is not the best website to sell them

Kreol1q1q

Out of those two, I prefer the TAG, but Longines also has their Master collection, which are similair if a bit more dressy, and I prefer those over the TAG - so take a look at that maybe?

pro-jec-tion

Longines Flagship, thinner and classier than the Tag Heuer. I prefer the blue dial version though.

Responsible-Salt-443

I’d go with the TAG. You could most likely get at least get 10% off or as cashback.

DevlopmentlyDisabled

Tag huer logo looks like a motorcycle brand.

Fullauto2

Never seen Carrera Date in real life nor the flagship. But I have worked with Longines and some or really nice others, dont relly feel like a luxurious item, even the highend models. But looking just at the pictures, I would say Tag Heuer

Young_Midoriya_

Tag looks better imo.

goldblumspowerbook

I think that tag just looks better. Also better brand recognition among normies (though worse reputation with watch nerds).

cv-x

*watch snobs from 2005

Godfather_1026

Used Omega 2503.30 for automatic, and there's a quartz version as well. Try to find one in good condition for $2k auto or significantly less for quartz.

Nosferatu1507

Longines Conquest?

Glittering_Poetry_60

I have a Carrera. Love it

MRAnonymousSBA

Tag.

Bortjort

Its the Tag all day for me

Aquatic_Panda

I'd go with the new Longines Conquest Automatic line. Comes in 41mm or 38mm and has a better dial and bracelet than either of these imo.

redditusername5873

That Tag was actually just a big part of that new Anne Hathaway movie on amazon prime

lrlr28

Colleague got the Carrera for his birthday and I gotta say it looks really lovely

_CSTL

Tag on this one

NinjaTabby

The Tag takes this one

lzwzli

Why is the Tag $3000!!!!???

[deleted]

That’s the going rate unless you go grey market

hardlyreadit

Tag imo cause I appreciate lume. And it looks like the flagship doesnt have lume.

Burgtastic

I don't like either but you do you man

Itchy-Wafer2510

Carrera in this case

usernamechexoit

The TAG. I Hate to admit as -maybe because I’m a sheep- I’m kind of biased against TAG, but that’s a swell watch

Excellent-Industry60

I am a big tag heuer fan, so yeah for me it would be an easy choise!!

N0t_N1k3L

What about between the TAG and the Longines Conquest? I've been between both and not sure which to pick.

pickle_party_247

Tag is much more versatile

cv-x

To me, the Carrera looks muuuuch better, not even a competition. I got mine recently: https://www.reddit.com/r/Watches/comments/1ddckkp/tag_heuer_i_think_the_carrera_is_the_perfect/

Dismal_Mention8423

TAG can be dressed down better, so I'd choose that

Logan2294

Longines looks better. The tag here looks like a common watch.
