Best bang for the buck I think has to go to the Mido, especially if you’re willing to go gray market. The quality is a clear step up from a brand like Hamilton, and the clasp on the bracelet has a tool-free micro adjust mechanism that you won’t find on many watches that are far more expensive. The downsides are the larger size (depends on the person of course) and the brand will be a little less recognized.
After that I think I’d go with the Oris, but maybe the version with the Sellita movement instead of the more expensive Caliber 400. While the 400 is a fantastic movement, the Sellita version is just more bang for the buck.
If you’re open to Mido be sure to check out a brand called Certina. They’re also a Swatch brand that is popular in Northern Europe but are starting to expand here in the States. Check out the DS Action Diver series for a modern dive watch, and the DS PH200M for a retro style dive watch.
I wish I could upvote this twice.
This is the exact kind of comment I needed.
I really like the Mido, but was worried it paled a bit in comparison to these others.
Oh not at all. The Mido is a fantastic watch and I can assure that you won’t regret it. I actually almost bought an Ocean Star Tribute awhile back but ended up going with a Certina which is why I mentioned them too. But yeah, bang for the buck Mido is crazy good!
mido isnt an awful choice
please correct me if im wrong, but i think certina is cheaper and if so that would be a better bang for your buck (not necessarily nicer though)
oris is absolutely one of the worst bang for your bucks unless you go used and then its ok
if used is an option then check out monta oceanking v2...it will be by far the nicest watch and easily the best bang for your buck since it will be around 1100
It doesn’t. I’ve got the Mido and Oris you pictured (in different colorways) and love them both. But the Mido was less than half the cost of the Oris, so it definitely wins the “bang-for-buck” contest.
If you haven't already, check out the Mido Ocean Star 39. The specs are amazing I found. It is slightly thinner than the Ocean Star 200 and the dial has a wavy topography which is stunning.
Having bought the Mido Ocean Star 300, its is absolutely fantastic and a bang for your buck, the crystal alone with its double sided AR coating makes the crystal look transparent.
100% agree. I got the mido ocean star gmt new but missing the box for around 700 grey market. The fit and finish is excellent. This specific example is 2 seconds off over a 1 month time period. The only issue with the watch is the bracelet... The quick adjust is so nice that I no longer wear any other watches.
I have a Mido Ocean Star and a Certina dress watch, I can't recall the model of. They are both fantastic quality and quite accurate too. Maybe because the diver is so much bulkier and heavier I'd go as far as to say that Mido is better quality, but they are hard to compare head to head.
My recommendations for both as well.
I will submit that you left out
https://preview.redd.it/pnanaksbls9d1.png?width=1229&format=png&auto=webp&s=fce306565e8518d4478a80ebaa25cf9208588928
the best choice in those price ranges, the Rado Captain Cook in many colors.
I had basically the same list as you not long ago and went with the Rado on a beads of rice bracelet. Very happy with it. Second place on that list was the Zodiac.
Seconded - you can a Captain cook in ceramic, which is basically scratch proof and lightweight, for <$2000 with a 80h power reserve, and also know that very few people own such a cool watch!
EDIT: I don't get the hype around Oris at all. They have a couple of good watches (Big crown pointer and diver 65) but my god do they seem overpriced.
I had to send mine in for service (non GMT). There's a known flaw with one of the winding gears where the teeth will sheer off. It was covered under warranty but still a pain. Now to try and avoid hand winding it if I can help it.
The case, bracelet, and rubber strap are pretty great. Bezel alignment is a hair off. Dial seems ok, hands could be better quality.
Lume is terrible but isn't awesome either.
If you plan on getting one I would try and get one used as they aren't worth the retail price.
I wanted a Zodiac until I got one. Terrible crown and the version/year of mine has the worst clasp I've ever experienced. It was catch and release for me. Glad I got it out of my system. I still think they look great in pictures but I'll never own another.
All awesome choices. My votes would be Zodiac (if you want cool historic vibes) or Oris (if you want cool modern vibes). I also love Doxas, but the Sub 200 lacks the lovable Doxa quirkiness in my opinion. You also cannot possibly go wrong with that Seiko. Not sure how helpful that is, haha, but I really think you will not regret anything on this list!
Okay, if we’re really talking bang for buck, I’m gonna go with a small curve-ball. Saw you discussing Sinn with another commenter. I got a Sinn EZM3F a while back and it has quickly become one of my most worn watches. Absolutely love it, and I was pretty blown away by the quality at the price. If you’re keen on a diver I would say check out the EZM3 which is the diver model from the same line, or they have a ton of other divers with different looks to them as well. All unbelievable watches for the money.
I’d go with the Unimatic. I’m not sure it would be the best “bang for the buck” watch - but it definitely stands out as the most unique watch out of this group, which would be important to me. I have one of their U5S models and love it.
I don’t have a ton of experience with this brand or with watches in general…so don’t put too much weight into my opinion. I bought the U5S after about 2 straight weeks of researching watches like it was my full-time job. I chose it because I liked the design, it was relatively slim, and it had a movement that people spoke highly of…and the specific edition I got was inspired by Dieter Rams who I’m a big fan of. Mine came with 2 rubber straps, which seem fine…no clue how their bracelet is.
I’m kind of a whore for Zodiac, but a Black Bay Tudor, preowned, for about $2,000, is a steal for quality. I own a Black Bay Bronze and I wear it all the time. Love it.
How dare you put me on the spot! Ok. Zodiac is colorful, fun, only real watch folks know what it is, it has a cult following. Fun, pretty durable but the movement isn’t great. BB58 is an army tank, sexy, solid movement, has a certain brand appeal we all hope doesn’t affect our decisions but it does. I have a Seawolf and it shows its wear more. My Tudor seems indestructible and I’ll be able to hand it down in decent condition. One huge thing money-wise is servicing though. Tudor will be $300-500, Zodiac will be $100 with a local guy. Either is a GREAT choice. I’d go with Tudor if money isn’t an issue. Or . . . buy 2 Zodiacs!!!!!!
The bracelet on the Tudor is love it or hate it. Don't let other people influence which way you lean but you will def have an opinion on it if you see one in person and try it on. Again, it seems like about half the people really do love it as aesthetically it matches a mid-50s rivet bracelet, without the drawbacks of a real riveted bracelet.
Mido or Longines for best bang for the buck. Don’t get me wrong I like most of the others but they’re less punching above their weight in terms of price.
I have experience with the Longines Spirit 37. Prefer it over my Sub as a daily. Great movement (+3s/day) and super comfortable. Wish the bracelet had Glidelock, but it’s still more comfortable than the Sub, even without. Also the Zulu is afaik a true GMT.
If the lug to lug fits you it’s a great watch.
I personally prefer it over the Oris as I very much prefer the Spirits dial.
Needless to say the Tudor is great too
https://preview.redd.it/9a1rdqmc2t9d1.jpeg?width=768&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=898a7096fd3b288290b38bce788ea60d55949813
Not everyone's cup of tea, but I'm going to say a used Sinn fully-tegimented U50 is going to be your best bang for the buck in this price range. 500m water resistant, thin for a diver, fully hardened case and bracelet.
They're cool watches, it has a SW300 so still a great Swiss movement in it, but 500m water resist and the case hardening technology is something none of the other watches listed have. Comes in at only 11mm thick too.
Thickness and case hardening are big positives. But I wouldn’t factor WR of 500 vs 300. Anything under 150 is a big con but 200+? What % of owners are ever going to need that degree of WR?
Very cool watch regardless
Nope. I actually just picked up 2 Sinns (836 and 105) and a Muhle SAR lumen. I gotta be done for a while. If you want serious water resistance, the Muhle is good for 1000 meters.
Great history. Great quality. Germans build very good stuff. Their tegimant technology keeps watches and bracelets looking new forever. I waited to buy mine for about 5 years cuz I'm in the USA and there isn't any ADs here. Went to Scotland. Tried them on. LOVED them. Huge variety of pieces. I couldn't be happier with mine.
You can get a used Sinn U50 SDR for $2500. Out of the watches you listed I'd pick the Unimatic or Tudor as I like their looks the most out of the options you presented.
edit to add: if picking the unimatic i'd look for one with #'s on the bezel just as a personal preference. I dislike the blank rotating bezel models they have.
Bought one and it had two significant QA issues. First, the crown wasn’t centered in the crown guards. Second the metal was upper soft. I returned it but not without Unimatic fighting me on it. That’s three big strikes in my book.👎🏻
for a long time the Super Sea Wolf was a more popular dive watch than the submariner, and for good reason. I would say that’s your best bet as far as bang for buck. Also a big fan of Christopher Ward
If I were to buy the Longines Spirit I would not buy this color. The green and black (Starbucks?) Zulu time is too good looking to get any of the other colors
I’m prepping for my next watch purchase and feel like I’ve read every “best diver” or “best watch under $X” article out there. I know not all the watches in the photo are dive watches, but my wife thinks they all look the same, so I’m probably only getting away with adding one of these to the watch box.
I genuinely like the look of each of these watches but I’m unsure which (if any) of them are worth spending the extra money on. My budget cap is $2500, and each of these can be found for that amount or less used.
For context, I currently own:
1. Oris Big Crown Pointer Date
2. Christopher Ward C63 GMT
3. Orient Bambino
Here are the contenders:
1. Unimatic UC1
2. Mido Ocean Star Captain
3. Doxa Sub 200
4. Seiko SPB143
5. Zodiac Super Sea Wolf
6. Longines Spirit Zulu Time GMT
7. Oris Aquis Date
8. Tudor Black Bay 58
Which one do you think offers the best bang for the buck? Or which one is worth spending a bit extra on? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
If you haven’t already considered these, these watches are all ~2500 or below (some way below) and punch way above their weight for value
Baltic Aquascaphe
Squale 1545
Traska Freediver
Lorier Hydra
Monta Oceanking
But if you have and already eliminated then I’d just go for the Tudor
My top three would be..
1 - Doxa 200 (The heritage stands out).
2 - Zodiac Super Seawolf (same as above).
3 - Oris Aquis Daye (Family owned).
I would probably go with the Oris 65 Date over the Aquis, it looks better IMO.
https://www.oris.ch/en-US/product/watch/divers/divers-sixty-five-date/01-733-7707-4055-07-8-20-18
There ios a big difference n price between these.}
Have you seen the Mido Ocean Star tribute? Its all polished so it's a but different but its so good, I own one.
From these, I like the longines and Oris, specially the Oris with sellita is a good price, but iof you can get a pre-owned caliber 400 oris for chea then that one.
As for the Mido it has a very nice clasp better than the rest I'd say.
They seiko is good, in terms of finishing I actually really, really like it, it's very well made with a lot of details. But the movement is a complete let down. I also own it.
Everyone’s gonna have a different opinion and it also depends on what else you have in your collection or want to add to your collection. You said you already have an Oris; do you want to have more than 1 Oris or branch out with different brands?
For where I’m at, there are many other colorful Seikos I’m interested in so wouldn’t be interested in getting a Seiko like this style if I knew I wanted a black diver.
I agree that there are other prettier colors I would rather get of the same style of the Longines you posted.
The Unimatic really just comes in 4 styles, is unique, and inexpensive compared to others in this list, and I like the black better than the other colors they offer.
I know Doxa’s angle is diving watches but I also like that they offer many colorful watches and straps!!
I would go Unimatic, Zodiac, or Black Bay based on the info you gave. I know nothing about Mido though.
[edit: I know you said your budget is $2500. Would you ever want the black Omega speed master or sea master or aqua terra? If so, I’d stray towards Unimatic since it has a unique look]
Sorry didn't read much of the comments below,
If I wear to choose solely based on looks I'd pick the Zodiac but specs wise people can make an argument about every other watch in the post which is fair
Don’t apologize! It’s cool to see something get brought up multiple times by different people. It shows that it’s definitely something I need to look into.
I think the black+white 600T looks great, but 14mm is a bit thick. I have a 14.5mm chronograph, but the case is shaped to "hide" the thickness. best option would be if you could try it (600T) on first.
The actual best bang for buck is the Zulu time grey market or AD with a discount.
It’s a certified watch from a historic brand that is constructed and finished perfectly. I’ve had two and both were quartz accurate and gorgeous. Next watch will likely be the blue in 42mm on a tan nato. The 39 was a touch small for me.
I’ve never owned a bad seiko. Tudors seem nice to me but don’t do anything subjectively so not my thing. Currently my daily rotation is a seiko willard, longines spirit titanium, and an iwc mark xx. The Longines is probably my favorite of the 3 but I love them all. Get a spirit unless you need an actual iso diver, in which case seiko is supreme unless you go seamaster or submariner
Hi. Does the rotor of your Longines make strange noises when you shake the watch? And what version of zulu do you have? [https://www.youtube.com/shorts/\_uqDtGmRTA8](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/_uqDtGmRTA8)
You can’t go wrong here. Since you have an Oris (the best Oris imo), I would consider the Longines or Tudor. The rest are half a level below. Someone mentioned a Sinn. Or save up a bit for a Speedy.
Have you looked at the new MM300? Spb455. That looks like a damn good watch for the money. I’ve gone a little cold on Seiko because both of my high end SLA line have crown tube problems and after a little research that is common. I don’t know if they fixed that on the new MM300 but if they did then it reflects a very good value.
If you like the Mido, check out Certina they have several nice models and are part of Swatch. DS Action Diver in 38mm ss or titanium, or 43mm ss with ceramic bezel. DS-2 Turning Bezel, PH200m, and DS Super PH500M
Best bang for your buck is probably looking for a used SPB143/negotiating for a discount with an Authorized Dealer. Seiko just dropped a new version of the SPB143 in the SPB453 so you might be able to convince an AD to sell you the SPB143 at 30% off sticker.
You also might be able to find a good deal on the used Zodiac Super Sea Wolf too. Doubt you can negotiate to pay under sticker for a new one though.
I might be biased because I own one, but the Seiko is an incredible watch. It looks 100x better in person, and the hardened coating gives the steel a slightly darker hue that is very pleasant. Zero regrets.
Sure - so it’s a fully ISO certified dive watch so it’s a little heavy, but that doesn’t bother me in the slightest. In the sun the dial is a really nice sunburst grey, and in other lighting it’s a nice black color. I love that they took a different direction from the standard “submariner” indices too. Looks great on a NATO but I personally prefer the bracelet, as it has the same diashield coating as the case, so it matches nicely.
Here’s my Reddit post when I got it - some people asked some questions about it too:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Seiko/s/xl5DDAXC6Q
Sits nice and flat on the wrist too, so the thickness isn’t as bad as one would perceive.
I would say Mido, but could recommend one of Citizen Promaster either automatic or Eco-Drive dive watches, good specs, ISO certified and relatively cheap. Sinn is also a good option.
If you are looking for something more vintage inspired take a look at the Nivada Grenchen Antarctic Diver, the Aquastar Model 60 Re-edition or the Veriwatch Octopus 1973.
Another vote for the BB58.
I went through this process not long ago and the more I looked at $1-2k divers, the more I realized how special the BB58 is.
Yes, it’s more expensive. But I think it’s one of the best value watches out there. Its movement is killer - 28k beat rate and 70 hour power reserve, COSC and METAS. The dial is gorgeous and the bracelet is good. It costs more than the rest of these but you can find mint condition for $3k, less if you’re lucky. I also think that it looks the best out of all of these, but that’s me.
The Longines is very nice but you already have a GMT.
You could also check out Serica. I think they make great looking divers.
A used Omega SMPO. I've had mine for 12 years, worn it everywhere doing anything and it is just a great indestructible watch that is so iconic I sometimes look at other divers, and I think "meh, I've got one already, no need."
https://preview.redd.it/z89b5u15ut9d1.jpeg?width=3472&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=98200fcc197eb9a4f70adab01b69861034e543cb
Grey market they are ~$3k. I've done everything with it, dive in salt water, play sports, mountain bike, wear it formally, it does it all and is my favorite watch.
It's the 2201.50.00 "Bond" watch on my wrist.
Doxa and Zodiac. Doxas bracelet shit on 3-5k brands and has Jacques fucking Coasteau heritage. Zodiac predates the Submariner.
Both are priced correctly and has very good finishing, as well as wearable sizing.
The Oris Aquis is really a great buy when its on sale, which is pretty often. I myself bought the zulu time 39, not because of value only but because I loved how it looked, and I was looking for a flyer GMT, I choose it over the Tag Autiva GMT, BB41 GMTs, and the Pro. I would still choose it again today. Its really intricate, with a fantastic dial, doomed crystal, snappy bezel, great finishing and good fit, extremely smooth screw down crown, buttery winding, quick release bracelet, even tho it doesnt have on the fly adjust (sadly), it does have 5 holes which equals a whole link which means that you will get a perfect fit, date at six, its own design, its one of few GMTs that doesnt take its inspiration directly from the GMT II master from Rolex. I love watching it from the side, you can see the domed crystal above the dial with perfect clarity. Its just something about it, it have the nice deep brushing that Omega is known for, beautiful bevilling, and the crown is sandblasted with a polished logo. Its crazy to me that it costs just over 3k, I choose it over watches in the 4-6k class because I just liked it more, if someone would give me a watch for free between the 3-5k range I would pick it again.
I'm going to throw another big brand in that blows most of these out the water on bang for your buck – Citizen. I think their super-titanium "Fujitsubo" – the NB6021-17E - a great, classic style diver's watch, based on Citizen's 1960's original.
But the one I'd personally go for (if you can carry off 45mm) is the BN0-200-56E – Super Titanium, ISO Rated, EcoDrive (Solar Powered).
I have the non-GMT spirit and I think it's a fantastic watch, especially if you can snatch it at a discount. Beware though that the endlinks on the bracelet version extend the already long lug to lug quite a bit. I specifically opted for the strap version because of this. As another person commented, the Certina DS action diver is a great watch too if you want a sub-40mm diver with a decent price tag (less than 1000€ in most of europe).
From that bunch the Otis as it's an original design, it's not a Submariner clone and it's not "vintage inspired" either.
I'd get the rubber strap too, it has a micro adjust in the clasp which should be the standard for all watches these days.
Mido without doubt. On the fly adjust, swiss made, heritage and more.
Great brand.
Luxury goods do not have a good bang for the buck ratio. The Longines is good, but it is 300% the price of the Mido. It is not 300% of the quality/specifications of the Mido, more like 30%.
With luxury goods there is always a sweet spot when it comes to value for money. Yes a Casio is insane, but if you want an automatic watch with nice quality, a decent bracelet, a movement that does not lose more than 30 sec a day, good design, good warranty and that it looks like a solid and proper watch, than a Casio or most Seiko's fall short. In my opinion the sweet spot is about 800-1600. Above that in most cases it falls short on 'what you get for the extra cost'.
A Rolls Royce is not 10x better than a VW Golf. But it does cost 10x as much.
I think only the Tudor, Seiko, Doxa and Zodiac are going to withstand the test of time.
The others have aesthetics that are not timeless and will look outdated at a certain point, like watches from early 2000's.
So this weekend I went to pick up my prospex gmt diver which I've had regulated and while waiting I went to the Oris display case and since then I had the biggest buyer's remorse ever. I never liked the Oris Aquis from pictures but live it's a different story. Combined with the fact that I don't really need the gmt function because after two weeks at my new cross time zone job I know the time difference by heart and that I should've picked black instead of green I really regret not getting an Oris Aquis now
I’d say the Mido is the best. Also look into Certina watches. The Doxa is also good bang for your buck, but I think you should get a colored dial if you get a Doxa and obviously you want this classic black and silver diver aesthetic, so I’d go with something else.
Of your choices Mido, Doxa 200, and Oris. Oris is my favorite , but Mido is probably the most watch for the money. It’s less than half the price of the Oris. The Doxa gets honorable mention with a rich heritage, and really cool dials.
Seiko is always the answer for bang for your buck. But the Oris is a giant cut above the rest. The finishing and bracelet fit are exceptional for the price. I personally avoid new Zodiac, I love their designs and everything looks great but they just don't have a good wrist feel for the price.
Mido, Oris, Zulu.
Mido can be had at a great price and is just an all-round great build with a nice bracelet. Classy and understated.
Oris Aquis I have in the blue and it's just stunning to wear, though I have the Selitta, not the Cal 400 which pumps the price up a lot. It looks pricier than it is and can be had for a great price on the used market too.
Zulu is more expensive than the other two I mentioned so "bang for buck" is subjective/relative, but to me it compares favourably to GMT watches that are 50%-100% more in price, so it fits the bill.
If you find a BB58 in good condition for 2500 there is no contest, it's a couple of universes above the rest. Otherwise, the Oris is your best bet, pound for pound.
I really like the look of the Doxa sub 200 but I don't think it beats any of the other watches for first choice. Consider it as a later addition maybe in orange.
I don’t know if specs per dollar is a good approach with watches. So much of it comes down to aesthetics and personal preference. It’s not like you’re going to look down at your wrist and think “well this isn’t exactly the watch I wanted to get, but I sure got good value!”
I’m assuming you have a favorite in this bunch. I recommend just getting the one you really want.
If you still want an opinion I think the Tudor is the one to get here. It’s the best vintage looking diver out there, amazingly proportioned and has a great bracelet. Add to that the fact that they’ve been really tanking on the secondary market and you can get one for much less than retail.
Couple of other watches that are not on this list:
Tissot seastar - it’s really hard to beat tissot when it comes to bang for buck. Everything I’ve gotten from them has been surprisingly well put together for much less money than equivalent Seiko or similar.
Monta Oceanking - classic looking black dial watch with supposedly one of the best made bracelets out there.
Oris diver 65 - vintage inspired diver similar to Tudor, but for less money.
I already own one and LOVE it.
I would prefer to not have 2 of the same brand. Idk why that is. I hesitated to put the Oris on the list for the same reason but people rave about it.
My C60 Trident Pro 300 is running about -0.5 sec/day. I cannot speak highly enough about it.
If you don’t want a Christopher Ward maybe a Hamilton Khaki Navy. The 43mm is a little large for some but comes with a ceramic bezel.
Considering your current collection, it might be nice to have 1 entry level luxury brand like Tudor or Longines. I also personally like the looks of those two best, so they are worth the extra money for me.
But I’d probably spend even more and go for next level up like Grand Seiko.
Uh, are you me? I was choosing between several models on this list very recently.
For what it’s worth, I handled almost all of them and went BB58 in the end. I haven’t thought about, looked at or watched videos of any other watch I was looking at since. With that said, I wanted one for a decade.
Best advice I can give you is try on as many as you can in person.
Cliche but Black Bay 58 is definitely the best one here. Wish it had the quick adjust clasp but the aftermarket Steel Reef extension is awesome and makes this my favorite piece.
What is common between these? Black dial?
Why would you compare Doxa with Tudor as which us the best bang for the buck?!
2 different categories in terms of price!
Btw to complete this bullshit post..Longines Spirit ZT is not a diver!
The ones in amsterdaam are clean but expensive. You really gotta know what you want too. There are cheaper options in bigger US cities but the legality of it can get you into some trouble. I would definitely try going overseas!😃
Frankly watches are just jewelry and the best bang for buck would be a smartwatch but based off these 8 the best would be longines since its a gmt but personally the zodiac is the best looking.
I got the BB58 and the Seiko SPB147 and I consider both an excellent bang for the buck, but I'm surprised how well the Seiko stands next to the Tudor, I thought about keeping only the Seiko...
I'm a similar line I have a Halios Seaforth that I love and a unique and robust but light Stowa Seatime, both in titanium, the Stowa will always be part of my collection.

Not sure 'bang for the buck' is how I'd describe any luxury watch, given that you can get a quartz watch for £5 that will do the job of telling the time better than any of them 😂
Have you tried Chinese watches? They are truly the best bang for the buck. Here is a favorite of mine, SN0116 Root Beer. They do have a dive bezel version of this model.
https://preview.redd.it/wp5hiuv13w9d1.jpeg?width=2408&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f1d378a6092aa2780916ffa3b33f47882a7adcd7
If you want a diver, I'd go with either a Longines Hydroconquest (for everyday, regular wear) or a big Oris Aquis, maybe one of the nice limited editions. You can get older ones for great prices, I myself love the Great Barrier Reef II specifically.
If you want a go anywhere do anything watch the Longines Spirit Zulu Time is a great option, strong recommendation there, although I prefer the blue dial version.
I say spb under 1k diver. If you need a gmt the Zulu time is the best. If you want a fancier diver a used bb58 is hard to beat around the 2000-3000 range.
That Certina Action Diver definitely looks like it checks some boxes!
mido isnt an awful choice please correct me if im wrong, but i think certina is cheaper and if so that would be a better bang for your buck (not necessarily nicer though) oris is absolutely one of the worst bang for your bucks unless you go used and then its ok if used is an option then check out monta oceanking v2...it will be by far the nicest watch and easily the best bang for your buck since it will be around 1100
You don’t see many Midos around. It’ll make your collection more unique and show you’re a true enthusiast

100% agree. I got the mido ocean star gmt new but missing the box for around 700 grey market. The fit and finish is excellent. This specific example is 2 seconds off over a 1 month time period. The only issue with the watch is the bracelet... The quick adjust is so nice that I no longer wear any other watches.
I was going to recommend a Certina as well
I have a Mido Ocean Star and a Certina dress watch, I can't recall the model of. They are both fantastic quality and quite accurate too. Maybe because the diver is so much bulkier and heavier I'd go as far as to say that Mido is better quality, but they are hard to compare head to head. My recommendations for both as well.
I will submit that you left out https://preview.redd.it/pnanaksbls9d1.png?width=1229&format=png&auto=webp&s=fce306565e8518d4478a80ebaa25cf9208588928 the best choice in those price ranges, the Rado Captain Cook in many colors.
There is something about the super sea wolf that always draws me to it, especially the GMT world time
It’s such a classic look with a great new spin.
It's amazing but said to have QC issues?
Is it the extra 3" or bracelet being shown?
All awesome choices. My votes would be Zodiac (if you want cool historic vibes) or Oris (if you want cool modern vibes). I also love Doxas, but the Sub 200 lacks the lovable Doxa quirkiness in my opinion. You also cannot possibly go wrong with that Seiko. Not sure how helpful that is, haha, but I really think you will not regret anything on this list!
That’s super helpful! I also love the Doxa 600T. It feels appropriately quirky. Which of these do you think punches hardest in its weight class?
What’s your experience with the brand? Case quality? Bracelet?
Love it.
$1000 Zodiac vs. $2500 BB58. Go
How dare you put me on the spot!
Great notes
The bracelet on the Tudor is love it or hate it. Don't let other people influence which way you lean but you will def have an opinion on it if you see one in person and try it on. Again, it seems like about half the people really do love it as aesthetically it matches a mid-50s rivet bracelet, without the drawbacks of a real riveted bracelet.
2000$? I was just looking and they were all around 2700-3000€
Mido or Longines for best bang for the buck. Don’t get me wrong I like most of the others but they’re less punching above their weight in terms of price.
Way helpful. Do you have personal experience with either brand?
I have experience with the Longines Spirit 37. Prefer it over my Sub as a daily. Great movement (+3s/day) and super comfortable. Wish the bracelet had Glidelock, but it’s still more comfortable than the Sub, even without. Also the Zulu is afaik a true GMT. If the lug to lug fits you it’s a great watch. I personally prefer it over the Oris as I very much prefer the Spirits dial. Needless to say the Tudor is great too
https://preview.redd.it/9a1rdqmc2t9d1.jpeg?width=768&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=898a7096fd3b288290b38bce788ea60d55949813 Not everyone's cup of tea, but I'm going to say a used Sinn fully-tegimented U50 is going to be your best bang for the buck in this price range. 500m water resistant, thin for a diver, fully hardened case and bracelet.
Very cool. Gotta give it a look
Stole the words right out of my mouth. Best spec'd diver under $2500. Could probably snag a T50 for $2500.
I came to comments to ask, ‘where’s the Sinn?’
I'd say the Unimatic for the "nobody else I know has one" factor. Great looking watch.
That’s part of the allure for me. It’s also the cheapest by a significant margin. Have you tried one on?
Nope. I actually just picked up 2 Sinns (836 and 105) and a Muhle SAR lumen. I gotta be done for a while. If you want serious water resistance, the Muhle is good for 1000 meters.
Sinn is the obvious one missing here. Care to make the case?
I own a Unimatic, love it. ama
They seem super thick. Fair?
Eh, mine is like 11.5mm, not too bad honestly, at least in my opinion.
I actually think you’re 100% right on that. And my wife would understand the need to have a black AND a green watch 😂
Haha, you can never have too many watches
Longines IMO
It’s a beautiful watch!
For context, I currently own: 1. Oris Big Crown Pointer Date 2. Christopher Ward C63 GMT 3. Orient Bambino Here are the contenders: 1. Unimatic UC1 2. Mido Ocean Star Captain 3. Doxa Sub 200 4. Seiko SPB143 5. Zodiac Super Sea Wolf 6. Longines Spirit Zulu Time GMT 7. Oris Aquis Date 8. Tudor Black Bay 58 Which one do you think offers the best bang for the buck? Or which one is worth spending a bit extra on? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
Ha I was joking with the “wife says they all look the same” line and then I see you actually said it. Lol so perfect
She’s super supportive and not naggy in the slightest, but I try to be mindful to not have too many that aren’t too close.
That’s nice
2500 gets you a fair amount of used omega seamaster Pro as well as a bunch of breitling as well
How’s the build quality on the C63? Worth the money?
I’d go Longines
I think the Tudor absolutely SLAPS
If you haven’t already considered these, these watches are all ~2500 or below (some way below) and punch way above their weight for value Baltic Aquascaphe Squale 1545 Traska Freediver Lorier Hydra Monta Oceanking But if you have and already eliminated then I’d just go for the Tudor
Wow thanks for showing me unimatic. Wasn’t on my radar and I kinda love it.
They’re such a cool look
My top three would be.. 1 - Doxa 200 (The heritage stands out). 2 - Zodiac Super Seawolf (same as above). 3 - Oris Aquis Daye (Family owned). I would probably go with the Oris 65 Date over the Aquis, it looks better IMO. https://www.oris.ch/en-US/product/watch/divers/divers-sixty-five-date/01-733-7707-4055-07-8-20-18
Mido. You’re really not getting much, if anything more from the others.
You have one?
There ios a big difference n price between these.} Have you seen the Mido Ocean Star tribute? Its all polished so it's a but different but its so good, I own one. From these, I like the longines and Oris, specially the Oris with sellita is a good price, but iof you can get a pre-owned caliber 400 oris for chea then that one. As for the Mido it has a very nice clasp better than the rest I'd say. They seiko is good, in terms of finishing I actually really, really like it, it's very well made with a lot of details. But the movement is a complete let down. I also own it.
I love this review. Super helpful.
Can you talk more about the Seiko movement being a letdown?
Tudor
I love the uniqueness of the Unimatic!
Bro... Where's Sinn 104? That's unacceptable 😐 https://preview.redd.it/nc3r9izpwt9d1.jpeg?width=9280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5ab5a01f6b9cb5d54afc261f133ace8fdedddb24
Multiple people have mentioned it! I definitely have to give it a look for sure.
Sorry didn't read much of the comments below, If I wear to choose solely based on looks I'd pick the Zodiac but specs wise people can make an argument about every other watch in the post which is fair
Don’t apologize! It’s cool to see something get brought up multiple times by different people. It shows that it’s definitely something I need to look into.
It's close in style with the Zulu time, and can appear extra dressy paired with an in-house Fine-Link bracelet.
Doxa 200 is the only one I would consider. The Longines is nice too, but a bit "busy" looking.
Doxa is such a fun brand!
and the one you posted is the best colorway imo. the bracelet is cool but it would also look great on a nice rubber/silicone strap.
I honestly like the 600T the most but I feel like it would be too thick.
Super helpful!
Hi. Does the rotor of your Longines make strange noises when you shake the watch? And what version of zulu do you have? [https://www.youtube.com/shorts/\_uqDtGmRTA8](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/_uqDtGmRTA8)
IWC 89.
You can’t go wrong here. Since you have an Oris (the best Oris imo), I would consider the Longines or Tudor. The rest are half a level below. Someone mentioned a Sinn. Or save up a bit for a Speedy.
Oris hands down … the only drawback is the lug design and straps 😞
What’s wrong with the straps?
Nothing wrong with them .. per se You just can’t strap on any strap of your choice
These are all amazing, but I’ve been really into Glycine and Omega recently for nice dive watches.
Some others you may want to consider Halios fairwind Oak & Oscar Humboldt Monta Oceanking
All very cool.
My vote would be the Mido
You own it? Give me a full review!
Here’s my Reddit post when I got it - some people asked some questions about it too: https://www.reddit.com/r/Seiko/s/xl5DDAXC6Q Sits nice and flat on the wrist too, so the thickness isn’t as bad as one would perceive.
Super helpful! Thanks for taking the time to do that.
Sure. Big SPB14x community out there. But you can’t go wrong with any watches in the list you provided
All close, but 1. Longines — noticeably different Or: 2. Mido 3. Seiko Continue your variety...
Zodiac, Mido, Longines
I would say Mido, but could recommend one of Citizen Promaster either automatic or Eco-Drive dive watches, good specs, ISO certified and relatively cheap. Sinn is also a good option. If you are looking for something more vintage inspired take a look at the Nivada Grenchen Antarctic Diver, the Aquastar Model 60 Re-edition or the Veriwatch Octopus 1973.
save up a while longer and get a seamaster imo
or maybe even find a used one within budget
my money no object choice for a diver would be a fifty fathoms fwiw
Longines for me followed by the Tudor.
Mido (But I would get a used Longines as it looks almost as good as a BB58)
Certina
The Zodiac, or Oris. I have a soft spot for both. The Oris if you want a true Indy brand. With the in-house 400 movement.
The Unimatic is cool but thick. Did you consider Baltic?
Mido. They aren’t too thick and pack way above their price range.
Mido
The Longines dial wins out for me.
Doxa
A used Omega SMPO. I've had mine for 12 years, worn it everywhere doing anything and it is just a great indestructible watch that is so iconic I sometimes look at other divers, and I think "meh, I've got one already, no need." https://preview.redd.it/z89b5u15ut9d1.jpeg?width=3472&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=98200fcc197eb9a4f70adab01b69861034e543cb
Beautiful! You see those used in this price range?
Grey market they are ~$3k. I've done everything with it, dive in salt water, play sports, mountain bike, wear it formally, it does it all and is my favorite watch. It's the 2201.50.00 "Bond" watch on my wrist.
And who doesn’t want to look like James Bond!?
I personally prefer numerals. Longines.
Longines, Seiko, Tudor
Zodiac, Tudor, Oris, not in that order. I don’t know what order.
I really like the Doxa and Conquest both very nice and price point if you like new is pretty good too
BB58 and it’s not even close.
One vote for Tudor
Longines. Movement is great for the money
Doxa and Zodiac. Doxas bracelet shit on 3-5k brands and has Jacques fucking Coasteau heritage. Zodiac predates the Submariner. Both are priced correctly and has very good finishing, as well as wearable sizing.
Certina ds Action diver
Christopher Ward C60, by a large margin.
Mido all the way. Tudor after that.
I like that Longines.
I’d go for one you haven’t listed. The Christopher Ward c60 Trident.
Used Tudor probably...
Can’t go wrong with any other of them but the cost factor I would go with the Zodiac good Swiss watches been around since 1883
I have the non-GMT spirit and I think it's a fantastic watch, especially if you can snatch it at a discount.
Longines, Oris, Tudor
The Longines GMT
So this weekend I went to pick up my prospex gmt diver which I've had regulated and while waiting I went to the Oris display case and since then I had the biggest buyer's remorse ever. I never liked the Oris Aquis from pictures but live it's a different story. Combined with the fact that I don't really need the gmt function because after two weeks at my new cross time zone job I know the time difference by heart and that I should've picked black instead of green I really regret not getting an Oris Aquis now
Certina action diver 38mm
Seiko or Tudor.
I’d say the Mido is the best. Also look into Certina watches. The Doxa is also good bang for your buck, but I think you should get a colored dial if you get a Doxa and obviously you want this classic black and silver diver aesthetic, so I’d go with something else.
It's the Doxa for me.
Longines. Brand carries weight, they look amazing and are equally well built
For me, it’s Longines Zulu and then Tudor, in that order. Good luck.
I'm wearing my Seiko SPB239 (which is the more gilt version of the 143) while my daily is in the shop, and I forgot how much I love it.
I'm wearing my Seiko SPB239 (which is the more gilt version of the 143) while my daily is in the shop, and I forgot how much I love it.
BB58 all day. Its a step up from the rest and will hold its value over the years.
I don’t know if specs per dollar is a good approach with watches. So much of it comes down to aesthetics and personal preference. It’s not like you’re going to look down at your wrist and think “well this isn’t exactly the watch I wanted to get, but I sure got good value!” I’m assuming you have a favorite in this bunch. Couple of other watches that are not on this list: Tissot seastar - it’s really hard to beat tissot when it comes to bang for buck.
Christopher Ward
I already own one and LOVE it. I would prefer to not have 2 of the same brand. Idk why that is. I hesitated to put the Oris on the list for the same reason but people rave about it.
My C60 Trident Pro 300 is running about -0.5 sec/day. I cannot speak highly enough about it. If you don’t want a Christopher Ward maybe a Hamilton Khaki Navy. The 43mm is a little large for some but comes with a ceramic bezel.
Zulu or BB58
Worth the extra $?
Considering your current collection, it might be nice to have 1 entry level luxury brand like Tudor or Longines. I also personally like the looks of those two best, so they are worth the extra money for me. But I’d probably spend even more and go for next level up like Grand Seiko.
BB58 was my goal for that exact reason. I’m really wondering if I can save some $ and still get a killer watch that fills the same void.
Maybe sell 1-2 of your current collection?
None. Check out a pre-owned Omega Seamaster diver or GMT. Lot's of neo-vintage bargains out there.
Give me a reference to look at under this price point.
Search on Chrono24 "Omega Seamaster". Then, filter location to Japan, and then set the price to about $1,900-$2,500.
Do you have crippling anxiety? IBS? Then maybe we are the same person. 😂 Good to know where you landed. Idk anyone with a BB58 that regretted it.
Cliche but Black Bay 58 is definitely the best one here. Wish it had the quick adjust clasp but the aftermarket Steel Reef extension is awesome and makes this my favorite piece.
A great bracelet is super helpful. It’s the thing I love the most about the CW
Haha!! Love it. I’ll give them a look.
Jacob and co
Frankly watches are just jewelry and the best bang for buck would be a smartwatch but based off these 8 the best would be longines since its a gmt but personally the zodiac is the best looking.
The price spectrum of your selection is vast. If put away price factor and focus only on value, I think Seiko SLA017 can be quite a contender.
I think if you already own an oris i would rule it out. I would pick the watch that is the most different from what you have
I got the BB58 and the Seiko SPB147 and I consider both an excellent bang for the buck, but I'm surprised how well the Seiko stands next to the Tudor, I thought about keeping only the Seiko... I'm a similar line I have a Halios Seaforth that I love and a unique and robust but light Stowa Seatime, both in titanium, the Stowa will always be part of my collection. https://preview.redd.it/i502ts8q1v9d1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=434797669c8cce7eb40922a2f89cf42e221442e3
Not sure 'bang for the buck' is how I'd describe any luxury watch, given that you can get a quartz watch for £5 that will do the job of telling the time better than any of them 😂
The one you like the most will be the best money spent. They are all good watches
Have you tried Chinese watches? They are truly the best bang for the buck. Here is a favorite of mine, SN0116 Root Beer. They do have a dive bezel version of this model. https://preview.redd.it/wp5hiuv13w9d1.jpeg?width=2408&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f1d378a6092aa2780916ffa3b33f47882a7adcd7
The only real way to know which one is the best for you is to try on as many as you can
If you want a diver, I'd go with either a Longines Hydroconquest (for everyday, regular wear) or a big Oris Aquis, maybe one of the nice limited editions. You can get older ones for great prices, I myself love the Great Barrier Reef II specifically. If you want a go anywhere do anything watch the Longines Spirit Zulu Time is a great option, strong recommendation there, although I prefer the blue dial version.
Longiness😍 tudor🥰
I say spb under 1k diver. If you need a gmt the Zulu time is the best. If you want a fancier diver a used bb58 is hard to beat around the 2000-3000 range.
Mido Ocean Star Flyer GMT. Arguably the best value in Swiss watches.
