I'm sorry.. But no fucking way. 😂 That's Wiccan, Hoodo, or Santeria. Note the innards.. This is magic. Jonny don't want any of that. 😂 Y'all waaay off with this one.
Let me edit this so y'all can stop it.. It is very unlikely, although not impossible, that it is Wiccan in nature. Thank you. 🙂
In Afro-Brazilian religions such as Candomblé and Umbanda, practitioners, often referred to as macumbeiros, leave offerings at crossroads for various spiritual reasons. The crossroads are considered sacred spaces where the material and spiritual worlds intersect. These locations are particularly associated with Exu (or Eshu), a powerful deity who acts as a messenger between humans and the divine.
Exu is known as the guardian of paths and doors, and he controls the flow of fortune and destiny. By leaving offerings at crossroads, practitioners seek to gain his favor, ensure protection, and open pathways for success and prosperity. The offerings, which can include food, drinks, candles, cigars and other symbolic items, are meant to honor Exu and other spirits, asking for their guidance and blessings
They're pretty common down here

Yeah but somebody has to clean it up. Does jobu curse the random animals that come to eat the meat in the road? What about the random sanitation worker that cleans the road? Does this brand of mysticism make exceptions for those that re just doing their job?
In Brazil there is a big intersection between Romani gypsies and afro-brazilian religions. I mean, very many people who self identify as gypsy practice this kind of religion and mix it all up with their other customs.
If you want to go about it properly, you ask. You'll get an impression of if you can take anything or not. Sometimes things are not for you. Or disrespect it completely and take your chances.
It's very literally solidifying the link of goodwill and gratitude. It's meant to be a blessing to those who are meant to find it, an act of service to the honored. How the honored chooses to dispense with it is their concern, as it belongs to them now. At least in how I similarly sometimes give thanks for protections and boons.
Edit, but er, I only do shelf stable vegetarian shit lol.
Agreed! I feel conflicted taking away offerings from Lord Ganesha but I think a rotten banana is disrespectful. So I put it in the compost. One day I’ll find out I’m a terrible person and I’m cursed for life 🤷
Not at all, and you're right, leaving it to fully rot would be disrespectful. Offerings are left and generally speaking are intended to be taken by those in need or discarded by whoever maintains the offering location. It's a gesture of sacrifice on the part of the offer-er.
Everyone in Brazil knows some story about a guy who did that and it fucked his life up. My uncle did it and is doing better now than when he was getting drunk on macumba stuff. When he dies he’ll probably get his comeuppance, though.
bro seen some expensive cigars, liquor, food, even fancy beer, been living for 9 years in Brazil, that ritual is almost in every state no disrespect, local people wont mess with offerings, unless its a homeless dude on Tuesday drinking and smoking offerings, the cleaning staff never mess with it. once saw 200 reals or 40 bucks, bottle of whiskey.
Brazil is a very wild, strange, mystical, beautiful, scary place but these mf are all right just stay away from RJ, SP
I’m from New Orleans and such things are often an offering to the Voodoo loa Baron Samedi. I would leave it alone as those are the Baron’s favorite things
If someone could start leaving offerings at the crossroads in front of my house, that would be greatly appreciated. Keep the marlboros, I'll take the liquor and cash, though. I'm not as powerful as a deity, but I am real!
Well, I don’t know if it applies exactly, but famously you could wait by the crossroads for the Devil and make a deal. Famed blues man Robert Johnson allegedly let the devil tune his guitar in return for his blues prowess.
In Europe, I think some people were hanged at cross roads so their spirits couldn't wander back and haunt people at home.
Source: Time Life books, I think
Honestly thank you for sharing!
My house faces a set of train tracks with a crossing right in front of it. I notice a car every once in a while park in front of my house and walk over to the tracks. Turn to find out they have been placing fresh cuts of Steak and high quality meat near the crossing.
Never understood or how to even ask about it but I think it's similar. On the positive, we have a single small stray black cat that humbly accepts the offerings that are twice it's size.
Dude it would make sense.... It's gorgeous, super black with the brightest yellow eyes. It is literally a shadow and will materialize and dematerialize at random, impossible to catch.
That would be my first guess, but the choices of location are odd for that, because to my knowledge none of these locations are places where people are known to have died. Nor are they places that are likely to have had significance to anyone, they’re seemingly random locations. I guess that doesn’t preclude them from being tributes or offerings, but still
I can’t speak for all instances because this has apparently happened about a dozen times and I don’t know where they have all been, but yes at least a few of them are placed straight in the middle of intersections
The only time I’ve heard of something similar to this was when I read about the Rat Hole in Chicago- https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2024/01/16/chicago-rat-hole-roscoe-village/72240539007/ I think I read about food left but I don’t think it was common
Who's supposed to take it cause if they are dead they can't spend money or get drunk? If I take it will I get haunted for the remainder of my life or will they look out for me like a guardian maybe
This happens in my neighborhood sometimes, and people more familiar with the practice have said it's ok to clear away the offering after it has been made. I'm not going to pick up road liver, though.
Offerings to ghosts, spirits, and deities necessitate someone takes them. At temples, the temple staff divide them up and/or discard them in whatever way their order dictates. When left out in the open like this, it is expected that someone who needs it will take it, and this is sufficient as a sacrifice to the spirit in question. The person who left it can know that either a real ghost took it or that it helped someone, an act which should please the spirit in question.
Chinese people leave offerings at intersections because they think the dead can easily pick them up there. However, Chinese put pictures of things and fake money, not like what you’re showing
In Vodun, Papa Legba is the guard at the crossroads who act as an intermediary between humanity and God. People dedicate altars in their homes to him, amongst others deities. But it is also customary to leave rum, candy, fruit and money at the crossroads as an offering to request in return for Papa Legba to clear the crossroads for us (remove known and unknown obstacles that are holding us back).
Same concept of placing change at the entrance of a cemetery when leaving, as an offering and show of respect. For those who don’t practice this type of spirituality, these would be consider a superstitions.
I use to be in a bunch of forums about stuff like this. Not saying I believe, just giving context, even though some of these pics are ridiculous. Offerings are really common among the African diaspora and the American slavery born system of Hoodoo.
This is the correct answer. It's for The Man at the Crossroads; He goes by many names. This is payment or a petition for His help in some fashion. Leave all of it alone. He is generous to those bold enough to approach Him, and His anger is truly fearsome. Respect at all times and in all days should be kept for Him. I'm no expert on this being, but I know enough to keep a polite distance.
I tend to agree with the Cosby Show on this stuff: I don’t believe in it but won’t speak out against it for fear of waking up with my arms and legs reversed.
That's how I feel about ghosts/spirits.
I don't believe in it, but I also ain't gonna go poking around in no haunted houses/hospitals to see some shit that'll make me believe in it.
Someone trying to make a deal with a demon. But hey.. free smokes and booze. You could just follow this guy around and have him throw you a party on every corner of town.
Idk even then, I don't think I wouldn't have taken it. Maybe if I was really sick and desperate for a fix. They're all open and caplets tho. That's sketch as hell. It kinda just looks like an offering, but idk If it's worth the risk
They are not just bored. All those liquors are not cheap. The Crystal Head specifically is not always easy to find depending on where you are.
I would pin point, triangulate, and map out if there is something in the center or if they make a symbol.
I’m thinking perhaps someone is trying to administer a hex, offering sacrifice, or it’s a method of sending a type of message amongst organized crime syndicates.
If you find an alternate location in the pattern somehow, don’t go alone or at night, and after don’t go straight home.
And don’t be suspicious.
All very common offerings for all kinds of stuff. But especially for the dead. If it's along footpaths or especially crossroads, it's basically guaranteed that this is an offering to the dead. Likely someone grieving who practices some sort of spiritual or neopagan belief.
Is it on or by a crossroads by any chance?
My first thought

I thought along the same lines. Especially with the alcohol, cigarettes, and cash. Those are typical offerings for Vudòun and Santeria.
I don't practice Santeria; I ain't got no crystal ball
But if I had a millions dollars I’d… I’d spend it all..
If I could find that Heina And that Sancho that she's found…
I'd pop a cap in Sancho and I'd slap her down...
But I really wanna know…
Not Wiccan, but certainly some type of ritual or offering. Edit: changed word.
It's Santeria
It could also be an offering to Hekate, the Greek goddess of the crossroads. Particularly if this happens to be a T-shaped intersection.
I wondered about Hekate too. Still seems kind of an odd offering, I’m leaning more towards something like Santeria.
What does that mean? Seriously question

I'm not going to click that. I'm NOT going to click that! I AM NOT GOING TO CLICK Oh **fuck** I clicked it

Fuck you Jobu.

Up your BUTT, Jobu
Are trying to say that Jesus Christ can’t hit a curveball?!?
Hey bartender, Jobu needs a refill!
I do it myself.
Hats for bats, keep bats warm.
Yeah but somebody has to clean it up. Does jobu curse the random animals that come to eat the meat in the road? What about the random sanitation worker that cleans the road? Does this brand of mysticism make exceptions for those that re just doing their job?
The general rule is they can be taken by anyone that is in need without harm. Especially animals, they might be agents of the spirit.
That’s so odd. My culture (Romani Gypsy) has a very similar custom.
In Brazil there is a big intersection between Romani gypsies and afro-brazilian religions. I mean, very many people who self identify as gypsy practice this kind of religion and mix it all up with their other customs.
What about me I'm poor as shit and occasionally skip meals but I make it to the end of the month(so far). Do I get cursed?
If you want to go about it properly, you ask. You'll get an impression of if you can take anything or not. Sometimes things are not for you. Or disrespect it completely and take your chances.
Or a child that simply sees free money.
Or a child that sees that dope ass crystal head vodka handle.
By their very nature, offerings like this REQUIRE than someone comes along and takes them. The person leaving them is not coming back for them.
It's very literally solidifying the link of goodwill and gratitude. It's meant to be a blessing to those who are meant to find it, an act of service to the honored. There are two things I know about white people. They love Matchbox 20, and they are terrified of curses.
Brave to steal from Death.

Sorry about your cat
Pretty much. Sometimes free candy and rotisserie chicken as well.

It's very bad to steal Jobu's Rum
If you want spirits following you, sure 👻
It's probably an offering for Papa Legba. Tobacco and Alcohol (rum) is known as a preferred offering. Papa Legba also corresponds to the crossroads
I noticed what appears to be a gold chain as well, is that also Papa Legba’s kind of offering?
As a Brazilian: that was MY FIRST thought. “Ialá, a “macumba” chegou nas gringas, chocada”
I’m from New Orleans and such things are often an offering to the Voodoo loa Baron Samedi. I would leave it alone as those are the Baron’s favorite things
I thought this was more of a Papa Legba thing?

Crossroads are notorious for demon deal making. You leave an offering for a demon and they fulfill a wish
Just imagining like 10,000 demons in NYC or Tokyo, at each intersection. Fighting over the "good" crossroads in the city.
That would make for a good comedy movie.
I would watch

Dark lords don't show up for dinner wearing their giant horns and hooves. Sounds like you'd better start leaving a little snack for the nice kitty.
Sounds like a cat-sith to me, lol. Fae folk in the form of a cat.
Does it smoke the cigarettes too?
There’s some cultures that believe crossroads are a holy ground for certain spirits to pass by so they leave offerings in place.
Guy might be trying to become the greatest jazz piano player and needs a little help.

I immediately thought of supernatural too lol
Ayyyy a club member! Hopefully whoever was leaving the stuff wasn’t trying to summon Crowley (wouldn’t work anyway bc it was the correct items lol)
Naw, it was probably an offering to papa legba (the actual entity Robert Johnson used to work with instead of "the devil" lmao)

We also leave cooked food not raw meat. Never seen anyone leave food in the middle of the road like that.
Crossroads are where all the dead can be contacted. They can also be left on hilltops beside roads if you can't get to an intersection.
That's what i was going to say. Offerings.
Those are some decent bottles too, like $50 apiece.
But they’re all open as well. Makes me wonder if it’s really still booze in the bottles or something else..
If it’s an offering, it would be opened.
Imagine being a ghost and people leave you shit completely sealed with no way to open it, lmao
How am I gonna ghost drink my half gallon of milk if it’s closed?
If they drink it though it’s just gonna fall out their invisible belly onto the floor
Fake booze? The money, cigarettes, and meat are more valuable. Typically, the tradition is to take a swig first.
I was boutta sayyyyyy like damn who's leaving crystal head, henney, and goose around ?! those are all highly decent stuff
Yeah man, fucking Grey Goose, I don’t even treat myself like that and I’m a vodka drinker
All vodka taste the same to me I tired everything and it just taste like edible rubbing alcohol. Doesn’t really matter because I mix it anyway
That's like the whole point of vodka in the first place so I've never understood going above the mid price range
Svedka is the mid-price king

Someone trying to make a deal with a demon. But hey.. free smokes and booze. You could just follow this guy around and have him throw you a party on every corner of town.
This seems like something a clever serial killer would do. Leave around booze and spike the last bottle with cyanide. I wouldn't touch it
Where was this shit when I was in the throws of addiction? I *definitely* wouldn't have passed up on street booze and smokes.
Idk even then, I don't think I wouldn't have taken it. Maybe if I was really sick and desperate for a fix. They're all open and caplets tho. That's sketch as hell. It kinda just looks like an offering, but idk If it's worth the risk
I had a friend who would chug mouth wash in his worst days. He would have jumped on that shit like Indiana Jones seeing a golden idol.
Yeah if you are shaking like a leaf, sweating bullets with the WDs, and with nothing else available you would definitely drink some of that.
Or spike the cigarettes with tar and other carcinogens... oh wait...
