54 is correct. Tail lights are the same as 53 but the grill trim wrapping around the front filled in down to the bumper on the 53. The 54 just had the tear drop flowing off the marker light
Dagmar that’s what they used to call those big chrome bumper tittys, after an actress with that name. Delray , I’ve only seen one, it had a different top design.
My memory ain’t what it used to be. Thanks
Dad had a’58 Delray. Consistent with Chevy naming conventions for California beaches…Delray, BelAir, Biscayne. Delray was the mostest basest of the base models.
Delray model, you are 100% correct. I knew there was a "uptrim" two-ten coupe, but couldn't pinpoint the name. The Delray added some Bel Air options to the two-ten coupe. Namely, two tone paint, more chrome, and mirrors. But it was expensive, and not really worth it, vs getting a Bel Air. Hence they were rare.
Not sure what it is, but did somebody raise it up in a "high boy" stance like they used to for drag racing?
The front end looks like it's sitting pretty tall on the tires, that could be due to a lack of engine / transmission weighing down the suspension....but the rear end it also appears to be somewhat higher than I would expect.
We may be looking at an old skol 'rod there!!
If you're hot riding a car, what's one of the first things you do back in the old days? You change engines!! That thing could have a 454 Big block in it from a later time....
It's part of the reason why they Jack the suspension up like that in the old days, more room for various things like oil pans and whatnot....
True, but it's more difficult than when the frame is drilled for the right mounts. Also brackets and pulleys that you know will work because it was available from the factory that way.
Bel Air was a trim not a model. Think of it like a Mustang and Mustang GT. Chevy offered an even lower trim than the two-ten, known as the one-fifty. It was basically a bare bones, stripper model. Made for fleet service, or the traveling workman's car. The Bel Air trim was the highest level/optioned, and the most iconic Chevrolet. There was also a Delray trim used on the two-ten coupes. It made it more confusing, because the Delray introduced some options that were standard on the Bel Air. But they were expensive, to the point, it wasn't worth it. Might as well step up to the Bel Air. So Delrays are rare.
Thank you for the information. I know very little about cars before the mid 70s. I had ALWAYS thought the Bel Air was a model and not a trim level. I recently learned that Malibu was a trim level in early years then a model.
That's a 54 Chevy two-ten. The giveaway is the monotone paint job, and the poverty chrome trim. Although for extra money, you could opt for a two tone paint, but at that point, it wasn't worth it vs getting a Bel Air.
Edit: ty to the fellow Redditor who helped me remember the "Delray" option for the two-ten coupe. Which introduced some of those Bel Air options. They weren't very popular, as stepping up to Bel Air made more financial sense. So they are rare, especially today.
Chevy 53 or 54 needs some work, but if guts are all there it is a great project. Some paint and baby moons and you are on your way. A car from when cars had character.
54. I had one just like this. I took it to Tijuana for a truck and roll job. Seats, door panels, headliner and carpets were $100. That was in 1963. The education this 17 year old kid got in the bars was priceless.
Back then the word was that you had to watch them to make sure they used cotton and not horse manure. My place was recommended by a guy in a gas station in San Diego. The work was solid. One of the bars I went to was the Blue Fox. Again, recommended and solid. Haha.
It's good to see it went to good hands. I find the resto job gorgeous. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, the minimalist styling of the one-fifty. Yeah I guess some would consider it sacrilege to strip down a Bel Air, but stripped down look, on those body lines is pure sex on wheels.
I bought a black 54 coupe from a farmer who had taken the engine out for his truck…$100 in in 1980. Broke AF college student, never got to bring it to life, it was rust free and mint interior, the one that got away….
1954 chevy, looks very similar to 53 but the grille and taillights are different. Those are the taillights of a 54.
Both only came with a straight six engine, but the 54 had full oil pressure, while the 53 still had dippers. 54 had a much better engine.
You could not buy a chevy with a v8 engine until 1955
I can still smell the oil burning as our family of 9 would go on camping trips in our 54. My dad took the seats out of a Morris Minor pulled the deck lid, wrapped the hinges for safety, bolted the modified front radiator support across the trunk back and installed the makeshift rumble seats. Five kids could ride in the back seat floor which was covered with blankets and two could ride in the bucket seats in the back. We would ride in the back headed up to New England and the sky was so clear and vibrant with stars.
We didn't have much but when I look back there, the riches and love that we got were immeasurable.
One time my little brother Duke in the back seat area, would make a very quiet siren sound and gradually make the siren louder. My Dad would keep looking in the rear view for the LEO. Dad finally realized it was Duke and we all laughed so hard!
If there's such a thing as heaven that old Chevy Belair is up there with Ray and Marie.
53 or 54 Chevy. Definitely 54 taillights, but I've known several people that have run 54 tails in 53's, so without seeing the front, I'm not really sure which it is.
1953 Chevy? I think
I think it's a '54. The tail lights are different between the two years.
Happy Cake Day!
Mmmmm, cake
I'm with this guy. '54.
Correct . This is a twin to my first car .
54 is correct. Tail lights are the same as 53 but the grill trim wrapping around the front filled in down to the bumper on the 53. The 54 just had the tear drop flowing off the marker light
Pretty sure it’s a 54 Chevy Bel Aire. 53 very similar but the front turn signals appear to wrap around to the side more, as in your pic.
I’ll go with 54, as someone here posted 54 is on the plate.
This is a 54, but it's the lower two-ten trim. Not a Bel Air
There was a Delmar model also. Kind of rare.
License plate says 54
Delray
Dagmar that’s what they used to call those big chrome bumper tittys, after an actress with that name. Delray , I’ve only seen one, it had a different top design. My memory ain’t what it used to be. Thanks
Dad had a’58 Delray. Consistent with Chevy naming conventions for California beaches…Delray, BelAir, Biscayne. Delray was the mostest basest of the base models.
In the shoebox years it was an option package for the 210, and the 150 was the base model, but in 1958 it was the base. That was also it's final year.
Looks like a nice unmolested 54 coupe. Hopefully it’s in good hands or goes to someone who’ll give it some TLC.
Yes, it definitely needs TLC.
License plate says 54
I didn’t even notice that
It's 100% a 54
Thank you
1954 Chevrolet 6 cylinder
I’m assuming 6 was standard
Chevy didn't have a V8 yet assuming it's stock... Late to the party, but took over the party 😉
Life of the party I’m sure
I thought 55' but it's been a long time since I've seen one.
No it's a 53 or 54, 55 is a member of the tri-five family and has much different proportions and roof line.
Hell no.
Not very likely, it's a 54 they were only available with an inline 6. Chevy didn't have a V8 until 55.
If you're hot riding a car, what's one of the first things you do back in the old days? You change engines!! That thing could have a 454 Big block in it from a later time.... True, but it's more difficult than when the frame is drilled for the right mounts. Also brackets and pulleys that you know will work because it was available from the factory that way.
On an old chevy all that stuff is really easy, there's probably a standard motor mount for a v8. I've seen lots of these with them in there.
Not tall enough to be an "Altered" drag car.
You're probably right, but I think somebody tried to go for that look and just didn't go as far as a high boy drag car....
or a Gasser
‘54 Chevy. My Oma had a ‘53. I lost my two front teeth slamming into that metal dashboard at 6 years old.
Yikes. So then for Christmas, all you wanted was your two front teeth?
Wow! We had a 53 Bel Air
It's a 54 two-door post and I've had a bunch of them I know what it is 53s I've had those too that's the 54
Thank you
'54 Chevy, my first car, my father bought it new.
I bet you have awesome stories to go with it. I’m jealous
2 lane blacktop has made me want a bel air so freakin bad 😖
Make a deal for this Chevy!
1954 Chevrolet 210.
Thank you. A model I’ve never heard of.

Fiddy fo chev 2 door sedan
Fiddy-Fo, two-ten...
Grew up with a ‘52 Chevy: looks damn close
Its one yr before they were cool..
53 Chevy
Looks like a 53 Chevy, definitely not a 55or later
Thank you
It is a '54. My first car was a '52. Mine was a dog, but it got me where I needed to go.
Chevy 53 or 54 needs some work, but if guts are all there it is a great project. Some paint and baby moons and you are on your way. A car from when cars had character.
‘54. Source: Had one in hardtop trim.
Tail lights say ‘54
Go with it.

1954 Chevrolet Bel Air 2 door post sedan [I had one just like it.](https://www.reddit.com/r/classiccars/s/iPq7KOde1v)

The body looks good
Yes, yes it does. I know that these people recently acquired it.
Technically it's a 1954 2-door Chevy sedan. The coupe/hardtop doesn't have a bar between the windows.
A nice hot rod candidate.
Agreed
Pretty sure that's a Cape Cod type.
😂
1954 Chevy
Thank you
Looks like a 1940s rambler, oh shit! You meant the car.
😂
53 Chevy BelAir.
I bought a black 54 coupe from a farmer who had taken the engine out for his truck…$100 in in 1980. Broke AF college student, never got to bring it to life, it was rust free and mint interior, the one that got away….
50s chevy
All that gorgeous stainless trim. I can smell that cars interior from the pic 🤣
Bel Air became a model as they dropped the Del Ray and Biscayne took the place of the 150/210...
Yep, now I’m officially confused. *Hello Google*

😢, I wish I had memories like this.
Looks like a 1954 Chevy to me.
Sounds correct
53 or 54 Chevy. Definitely 54 taillights, but I've known several people that have run 54 tails in 53's, so without seeing the front, I'm not really sure which it is.
54 Chevy Bel Air 2 door sedan
It just amazes me how fast y’all can name any car and year
That’s why I post here. I don’t know how they do it either
53 chevy
Forza horizon 5 has that
Falcon
54 Chevy Bel Air
Just because it's old, doesn't mean it's a classic. This is just an old sedan.
So sorry.
